Uninstall HP Solution Center broke Win7 file associations

Having issue installing printer drivers for a VIP at my company. The HP full feature software was already installed, but the printer was not. Tried isntalling both via USB and wireless, neither was picking up on the printer. Decided to remove the HP software, went through Programs and Features, did the "Remove all HP software". Required a reboot once done, once rebooted, all applications on the desktop are missing, all applications in the start menu are white and dont launch, and the "All Programs" list in Start is empty.
Please help, was working with CIO

Hi jellison23,
Welcome to the HP Forums. I am sorry to read about this experience, and would like to help.
I suggest performing a system restore to get the computer back to a recognizable state. Click here to perform a System Restore. System Restore can return your PC's system files and programs to a time when everything was working fine, potentially preventing hours of troubleshooting headaches.
I also suggest running the Microsoft Fix it. The MS Fix it automatically repair issues that block program installation or removal because of corrupted registry keys.
What it fixes...
Corrupted registry keys on 64-bit operating systems
Corrupted registry keys that control the update data
Problems that prevent new programs from being installed
Problems that prevent existing programs from being completely uninstalled or updated
Problems that block you from uninstalling a program through the Add or Remove Programs (or Programs and Features) item in Control Panel
Click here to download and run the utility.
From what you have described, it sounds like an issue was already brewing. The MS fix it should repair any corruption in the registry keys and allow for a fresh install. You should now be able to download and install the software using the HP Printer install Wizard.
The HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows was created to help Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 users download and install the latest and most appropriate HP software solution for their HP Printer.
Simply run the tool from the link above and follow the on-screen instructions.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue.

  • Adobe indesign cs win7 files associations

i have win7 64 bit and indesign cs ver 3.0.1 why my file icon disappeared?

    You found the file: idicon.dll
Now you need to register it with Windows. The Register64BitIcons.bat file will do that automatically, if you can find and run it, otherwise, press the Windows Start button, then the Run button and paste regsvr32 "%CommonProgramFiles(x86)%\Adobe\Shell\idicon.dll" (exactly as written here) into the command line and press OK. You should get a confirmation message for success. You may need to restart the computer for the icons to show.

  • In "Set your default programs" under Win7, file associations of Firefox are tampered!

In "Set your default programs" under the Control Panel of Windows 7, Firefox does appears in the "Programs" list on the left. But, its icon is that of Windows Media Player.
After I click on the program's name (Firefox) to display the details on the right, I notice the icon for Firefox becomes that of Windows Media Player, too. And, "Mozilla Corporation" becomes "Microsoft Corporation."
If I click on "Set this program as default", files of these types are opened by Windows Media Player, not by Firefox:
    htm, html, shtml, xht, xhtml.
So, I have to manually associate those file types with Firefox from "Associate a file type or protocol with a specific program."
To solve this problem, what registry entries should I edit?

I don't know if the extensions I use for version 19.2 suit the latest version. So, I just re-installed 19.2, and all is well now. Thank you very much for your help.
After the re-installation, I noticed there is a string value '''Firefox''' under
    ''HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\RegisteredApplications''
This registry key contains all the program names listed in '''Set your default programs'''. So, I guess that if the string '''Firefox''' points to Windows Media Player, I get the trouble.

  • HP C7280 Solution Center won't work after upgrading to Windows 7

I was running Vista and connected to the C7280 both wired and wireless. Last month or so has been wireless with no issues.
I upgraded to Windows 7, reinstalled the driver I had, and now when I try to scan I get an error that says "An unsupported operation was attempted" that pops up twice, then I get an error that says "An invalid argument was encountered".
Then a pop up window gives some steps to try to fix the problem.
I downloaded and installed driver PS_AIO_02_Net_Full_Win_WW_130_140.exe which didn't work.
I then removed the printer from hardware, and uninstalled the Solution Center software,
    Re-installed driver  PS_AIO_02_Net_Full_Win_WW_130_140.exe C7200 driver package and
    installed dot4patch_reboot.exe,
shut the printer down, unplugged it for a few minutes, rebooted the computer, and
    the same errors occur.
The driver is a year old, and I can't find a newer version.

  • My printer works great but I keep getting error messages from HP Solutions Center

I'm using an HP Officejet J6480 All in One Printer on a Windows 7 64 Bit machine.  The printer works great but I kept getting error messages from the HP Solutions Center every 15 seconds that popped up making it impossible to do work on my laptop so I uninstalled the Solutions Center to try to fix the problem.  Now the printer won't print. Is there a way to re-install the Solutions Center and get rid of the pop up error messages?

hello Danagriz, unfortunately the plugin check page lags behind. adobe has released a critical patch for a vulnerability in its flash plugin, which is reportedly already exploited in the wild. therefore firefox will block insecure versions from running by default on websites for your protection.
    https://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/flash-player/apsb14-27.html https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/blocked/p794
please update to Adobe Flash Player version 16.0.0.235 as soon as possible, which you can download from http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html (use the windows-exe for plugin-based browsers).
in order to update java, go to java.com (or if you don't need the plugin you can also uninstall it though the windows control panel)

  • .sesx file association lost?

This is a pesky one.  I recently upgraded from Audition CS5.5 to Audition 6 and uninstalled CS5.5.  Since I did that, however, the .sesx file association in my computer has been lost.  When I try to reassign .sesx to Audition, the computer defaults to Adobe Acrobat to attempt to open an .sesx file, even when I specifically navigate to the Audition folder and indicate Audition as the default program to open .sesx.
I realize the first and most obvious step is to simply reinstall Audition CS6, but there were difficulties activating the software.  I was upgrading just Audition out of the entire Creative Suite CS5.5 package, as it was the only software I NEEDED to upgrade (for some reason Audition CS5.5 caused me nothing but problems, but CS6 is infinitely more stable on my system, and none of the other CS6 software had features that justified a $500 upgrade).  So I had to contact support and they had to give me a support code and all of these hoops had to be jumped through to install the new software.  I'd much rather avoid having to do all of that again.
Is there a way to reassign the file association other than reinstalling?  And while I'm at it, if I DO reinstall, will THAT even solve the problem?

    Hey,
it appears the application registration within the windows registry was corrupted, probably due to uninstalling a previous version of Audition.
    Fixing this should be easy:
In Windows Registry (win key, type 'regedit', hit enter) navigate (left side of the window) to
    Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications and find your
    Adobe Audition CS6.exe named folder.
Navigate under its name to the subfolder shell>open>command.
Within command double click the default key (right side of the window) and check if the path to the audition executable is correct, fix it here if needed.
Having installed into default location, the path should be "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Audition CS6\Adobe Audition CS6.exe" "%1"
Hit okay (you're fine closing regedit now)
Finally try and reassociate the file type as you normally would.
Now, as the path to the exe is actually correct, it should show up in the list of programs (after having browsed for it) and everything should work fine, including icons etc.
Make sure Audition is selected within the list (after browsing) before finally hitting okay.
That btw, is how Acrobat or any other program got into play here, Acrobat simply happened to be at the top of that list (from associations before) and got selected because Audition wasn't actually added to the list (because of the broken path).
If this does not work for you, maybe using a third party tool to have access to 'basic' windows functions like editing file associations, like really editing them, like.. you were able to back in XP.. unlike vista or 7.. oh well. err, you might want to try e.g. this one: http://defaultprogramseditor.com/
    Note to the Adobe devs:
For me, the path should have been "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Audition CS6\Adobe Audition CS6.exe" but was "C:\Program Files (x86)\AdobeAdobe Audition CS6\Adobe Audition CS6.exe".
Note the missing backslash ("\") after the Adobe folder within the 32bit programs folder. Smells like you're typical minor issue with the install/un-install business
On the bigger picture, uninstalling older versions, should not cause file associations to get broken to begin with. I had this with all the CS apps, but in a different way, for apps other than Audition, like photoshop, premiere, etc.. it just deregistered the file extension but didn't break the exe path for them, so reassociating was easy, still.. a bug
    Note to Microsoft:
If your OS can't find a registered executable, why not prompt the user for the path or at least let them know?! ^^
    Hope this helps,
    Cheers

  • Officejet pro l7580 cannot reinstall hp solution center

I have a Win 7 Home Premium w/SP1, MS updates current to 5/27/2014
I wireless connect to Officejet Pro L7580.  We have Verizon FIOS & wireless phones.
The L7580 is connected via Ethernet to a 2nd PC w/ Win 7 Home Premium w/SP1 & fairly current MS updates.
I have been using the above setup for 2+ years along with HP Solution Center for scanning, printing from either PC without any problems.
Then I upgraded the Verizon router to have WPA2 security about 6/2/14.  I am able to print as I have done before but HP Solution center gave me an error msg:
Solution Center cannot run because installation is not complete.   Would like to be able to post a jpg.
    1. Based on some review of forums, I reinstalled the L7580 using complete download, rebooted - received same error msg when openning HP Solution Center.
    2. I  uninstalled HP Solution Center, rebooted.  Installed the complete L7580 packge, rebooted.  HP Solution Center was not installed. Can print as I have before.
    I need some help,
    Thanks much,

Hello Ken I hope you're well!
I saw your post about Solution Center not functioning for you since you upgraded to WPA2 security on your router. If you switch the security to WPA personal, that should help.

  • Why does the solution center prompt for cd every time?

My HP 8500 constantl;y prompts for me to insert the CD each time I try to scan. I have lost the CD, and just paid $10 to get a new one, but it is very annoying! How do I stop this?

    Hi Tom,
There is something missing in your Scanning software.
The Solution Center is like a dog with a bone about missing stuff.
    Something to try/consider:
See the Solution on this Post - it has the information that might help you correct your Solution Center woes.
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-All-in-One-Install-Setup/cannot-open-solution-center/m-p/110924...
If, for some reason, you cannot download new software for your printer as outlined in the above Post,
and you really do not want to wait for your new CD, then you can Uninstall the Solution Center Software from your computer.  See the warning below.
    Uninstalling your Solution Center:
BE AWARE: If you elect to uninstall Solution Center to make it stop annoying you...Your printer might still work after you reboot and let the computer try and install some standard drivers - HOWEVER, it will only work with whatever "bare bones" drivers are available on your system.  It might not work at all.  It depends on your Operating system, whether there are enough HP standard drivers for your printer to run the basic printer HP8500 functions, and whether things get tangled up when you uninstall the printer software.  It could go well, or it could become a nightmare and you could be more unhappy than you are right now.
The very best scenerio:  You find at the Solution Center link a way to download the Full Featured Software for your HP8500 printer and it fixes your scanning error.
    I hope this helps.

  • Lenovo B590 Solution Center Message

    Hello,
I received a message from my Lenovo Solution Center saying that my "last Windows Update occured more than 30 days ago". When I click 'Launch' to fix it, the Windows Update window opens, but there are no 'Important Updates' available. There are about 8 'Optional Updates' available, but I'm not sure as to what I should do? It says this is 'Non-Critical', but I'd prefer to keep everything operating 100% on my computer.
Any ideas how to resolve this issue?
    Thanks,

    hi PurpleDove,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
If the system shows that it does not have a Windows Update Available then this means that the system is up to date.
The Solution Center is trying to base the Notification through the date when you last do a Windows update.
You can try Uninstalling the Solution Center and Installing a New Copy
      or
You can select to Terminate the Notification through the Solution Center Settings

Two problems. 1) Upgraded Dell 1737 Notebook from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 64b. HP Solution Center no longer works. Have HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909a printer hardwired into router. Downloaded new printer drivers, still cannot print. 2) Cannot get Solution Center to execute. Message says can't find "SolutionCenter.msi". No Win7 upgrade for Solution Center on HP site.

    Hello ReallyFreeBob,
Lets first try Uninstalling the existing printer software using the listed steps..
Press the keys Win + R, a RUN box would open. Type in the command %TEMP% in the box and hit OK button.
A temp folder would open, locate for the folder name begning with 7z..... , open it , then do the following ..
Locate for folder "UTILS" and double click to open it. Locate for folder "CCC" and double click to open it. Locate for file Uninstall_L3.bat and double click to Run it. Follow the onscreen instructions

  • Parsing error in file message, can't access Solution Center

I have a HP Deskjet F4480. From initial install I get a message: Parsing error in file C:\Program files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqsdoc\1033.XML  I have uninstalled the printer, downloaded the large install file from HP website and tried to install printer. Still get same error message. Printer prints, copies fine but I want to use it to scan a page and then using OCR copy data. Scanner feature from control panel will copy just fine but don't know how to get to .txt from scanned image, or how to get rid of error message. Have already run the printer diagnostic unit and scanner diagnostic unit and they detect no errors.

navigate to C:\program files\HP\digital imaging\bin\ and there we would find 2 or 3 folders with HPQSCLOC name with an extension like HPQSCLOC(608) or (109).
We have to search for 1033.xml file in all those folders and probably, it would be there in HPQSCLOC folder with numbers in brackets.
Then, we can go to the HPQSCLOC folder and copy the contents of the folder and paste the contents in HPQSCLOC folder with numbers in brackets .
Now, we can delete the HPQSCLOC folder and rename the HPQSCLOC folder with numbers in brackets as HPQSCLOC.
Then, try opening HP Solution center. It should work fine

  • File Associations in CS 5.5 for Win7

I preordered CS 5.5 Web Premium and just installed it.  I also uninstalled my previous version Adobe suite (CS4).  Now none of the file associations have been made for any of the Adobe related file types.  So for example, psd files are now associated with quicktime.  When I try to change the file association (set it to PhotoShop) it does not allow me to do so.  It acts like nothing happened.  What can I do?  Do I need to uninstall and reinstall?

I have exactly the same issue affecting InDesign and Illustrator. Photoshop had the same issue but it allowed you to set the default program. It seems the only way to do it is to open the program and open the document from there. This is a complete pain!

  • How can I set a default save file for scans using the Solution Center?

    Using Windows 7 - 64 bit.   HP Photosmart Premuim C-309a All-In-One Printer.
Because of a Windows crash, I had to install a new drive and reload Windows. I also reloaded other software like the HP Solution Center & Drivers. My problem is that I can't find how to set a default folder for my scans.  This is NOT mentioned in the user manual but it was originally accomplished by HP Tech Support when the printer was new.  Can anyone relate how to set default folders for my scans?
    Thanks.

Here is a document on how to scan through Windows 7.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c03476857
Click either solution center or the icon of the printer on your desktop. Here select "Scanner Actions" (or the analogous selection). When the window pops up from the HP software it should provide you with options for file type (.tiff, .pdf, .jpg) as well as resolution and media size. Here on this page there is also an option for you to go to the advanced options. Using this you can alter the default safe folder.
Let me know if that helps you out!

  • "Error occurred in deployment step 'Retract Solution': The solution does not have a WSP file associated with it." occurs while deploying from Visual studio

    HI,
I get this error "Error occurred in deployment step 'Retract Solution': The solution does not have a WSP file associated with it. " when deploying my project from visual studio 2010 to
SharePoint 2010 site. I tried restarting IIS, but it didn't help. This application used to work fine until the server crashed during the deployment process. All the other applications on the same server works fine also. Any ideas how to fix this issue?
    Thanks in advance,
    AM

    Hi
    AM ,
    Thank you for your posting!
According to your error message, it says your solution does not have a WSP file associated with it. Take a look at the file system.  After you Right Click -> Deploy Solution on the VS Solution, there
should be a .wsp file at <Solution Directory>\bin\<debug|release>.
Also the error can be occurring when the developer try to deploy solutions over pre-existing solutions  with material changed  in the solution.  Go to your Central Administration Site and then
Operations and then Solution Management.  Make sure that there not already a solution with the same name deployed or installed there.  If there is, remove it and try deploying again.
And you could look in logs and find if there is a below error in ULS log (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS).
Thank you for your understanding and support.
