Uninstall iMovie 05

How do you uninstall iLife 05? I am trying to get my Panansonic Video camera NV EX3 to work on iMovie. It works on iMovie 04. Therefore I would like to reinstall iMovie 04. But because iLife 05 is installed, iLife 04 will not install. I have tried trashing the iLife 05 applications and deleting the relevant preferences.
PB 1.5 Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Hi kleonard59:
Welcome to discussions
Before you do that, check a few things. Your camera should work with iM5 if it worked with iM4.
What version of quicktime are you currently using? Should stick with version 6.5.2 since you have OS X 10.3.9...
How much RAM / HD space do you have installed on the PBook?
Exactly what problems are you having with iM5? Camera not recognized? Can control the camera, but nothing imports?

You can undo a lot of changes, either via changing settings or prefs on the about:config page or via extensions.

• Do I Really Need To Uninstall IMovie '11 to Access Completed Projects from IMovie '09?

Hi everyone:
What's Happening
I would like to uninstall IMovie '11 so I can complete a project I spent hours (and hours) creating in IMovie '09.
I am frustrated that IMovie '11 has deleted the project I had previously in IMovie '09, after I upgraded to IMovie '11.
Immediately after I upgraded to IMovie '11 recently, I DID see my previous '09 projects still reflected, although I also noticed my IMovie '11 removed weird, random features (titles, mostly) during the transition. And it was very random - i.e., some of my titles were reflected; some HALVES of my titles weren't, etc. Just random.
Noticing this and not wanting to miss anything I did with my completed project (which was already good to go, before the upgrade), I then tried uploading the last fully complete version of my project, as edited in IMovie '09. I went into my Time Capsule and just went back by a few hours and restored those project files. However, IMovie '11 not only did not recognize any of my '09 projects, it actually DELETED all of the projects it originally showed me when I upgraded. So now I was totally out of my project files!
Therefore, if I want to edit that and publish them ASAP, it seems I have to literally:
Uninstall iMovie '11.
Reinstall '09.
Restore my last completed '09 project file.
Upgrade again to IMovie '11.
This time, if I notice some titles are weird, don't try to bring any of my old files with me again. Just let them naturally show up as they did before, and literally fix and comb through literally every. single. quirk. or new error I see.
My Question
Is this really what I have to do in order to retrieve a project I already spent hours completing in '09? Or is there some shorter way to retrieve those files that IMovie '11 has dismissed and deleted?
Also, does Apple know about this bug? Are they doing anything about it? Does anyone know?
Any answers would be HUGELY appreciated!
Thank you,
DRS.

Thanks for your reply, Klaus1. I'm currently running Snow Leopard. I'd considered upgrading to Lion but was told, even by Apple, that I wouldn't be satisfied with its slow performance on my iMac 24.
I have plenty of hard drive space with 160 GB available on my internal hard drive, but I've been storing the archived video clips and the iMovie projects on a fire-wired, external 2 TB drive. Could it be that using an external hard drive for the iMovie project is part of the performance problem?
A quick check on the Apple website shows that my iMac 24, which was manufactured in mid-2007, can support up to 4 GB of RAM. I wonder if I should consider a RAM upgrade before upgrading the entire computer. How big a deal is it to replace RAM in the iMacs?

• Uninstall iMovie and Reinstall using Applications disk

Hi there everybody,
When I open iMovie, I get a message saying that some of the Quicktime components are missing and reinstall iMovie. This happened after I uninstalled Final Cut Express. Since iMovie is installed, the Applications Disk does not give an option to install iMovie, so I'm guessing that I need to uninstall iMovie and reinstall.
How do I go about this properly without losing any of my movie data (there isn't that much).
Thanks in advance.
One more thing: I'm using Lion and iMovie 11 is my issue.

If you have an iLife disk that you purchased, (you should have iMovie, iPhoto, GarageBand, iWeb, and iDVD)
This will not affect your iMovie Project, Events, or finished movies.
Drag the iMovie app from the applications folder to the trash. Then use your disk to reinstall.
If your iMovie came preinstalled on a new imac and you get your iMovie updates through the App Store...
In this case, you would have iMovie, GarageBand, and iPhoto, but not iWeb or iDVD.
This will not affect your iMovie Project, Events, or finished movies.
You can either drag iMovie to the trash from the Applications folder. OR you can open LaunchPad and drag the icon for iMovie to the trash. Then open App Store and install from there.
If your iMovie came preinstalled on a new Mac, and you do not get iMovie through the App Store.
In this case, you should have iMovie, iPhoto, GarageBand, iWeb, and iDVD.
This will not affect your iMovie Project, Events, or finished movies.
Go to the Applications Folder and drag the icon for iMovie to the trash. Then reinstall from your OSX System Disk that came with your Mac. Do not reinstall OSX, but look under the Utilities menu for software to install.

• Uninstall iMovie 08?

Tried finding this on the boards and couldn't. Anyone know how I can uninstall iMovie 08 off my Mac Pro? And then do I just reinstall iMovie off iLife 07?

The nice way… erase and install Mac OS X and bundled software new and obviously selecting (or deselecting) what you want to be installed.

• How can I uninstall imovie '09 and then reinstall it?

My imovie is not working as it should, and the only thing I can think of to do is to uninstall it and hope that it will then be working properly again when I reinstall. Can anyone help please?

Hello pritammmul,
If you follow the steps in the article below, it will erase all the contents and then install the latest version of iOS on your iPhone.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

• Uninstall iMovie 6

I recently got a new iMac with iMovie 9, iDVD, etc. When I purchased the MIssing Manual for iMovie 9, it included topics to use in iMovie 6 which might be better than 9. Well, like a 'dummy' I tried to install iMovie 6HD from iLife 06 and have everything messed up. How can I get back to iMovie 9 and the others? I don't recall getting backup disks with the new computer.

Will your suggestion reinstall iDVD? I have iMovie 6 and 9 installed, but get the 'relaunch' window when I try to open iDVD. When I hit relaunch, it opens again and again.

• Uninstalling older of 2 iMovie apps

I recently noticed that in addition to the current version of iMovie (10.0.6), my applications folder contains a folder called iMovie 8.0.6, which in turn contains a copy of the application, iMovie 8.0.6. The app shows a date modified of 03/28/10. Its containing folder shows a date modified of 11/10/13. Interestingly, the iMovie 8.0.6 app doesn't show up in Launchpad (only iMovie 10.0.6 shows up there), and if I double-click on the iMovie 8.0.6 app in the finder, it creates a copy of the 8.0.6 app to my Applications folder before opening.
I'd like to uninstall iMovie 8.0.6. What's the best way to do this? (The uninstaller in CleanMyMac2 can't see it.)
I have a 2009 iMac running Yosemite.
Thanks,
Nat

Move the iMovie app version 8.0.6 to the Trash then restaert your Mac then see if the newest iMovie app version 10.0.6 launches correctly.
if it does, don't worry about the 8.0.6 associated files just yet. v10.0.6 may have over written some of those files as part of an update.

• How to uninstall and do a clean reinstall of iMovie 11?

I have had all sorts of problems with iMovie crashing while attempting to make my movie, numerous different times, on numerous different projects, etc. I've gained lots of insite from this forum on how to do what I'm trying to do, but I'd like to start with a clean iMovie.
I would like to uninstall iMovie and reinstall it, without losing any of my video clips, of course. I have not been able to find out how to do this. Can anyone tell me how to do this? Do I drag iMovie to the trash, delete the 2 library files, and then install again from the app store?
If there are instructions somewhere, please point me to them.

• The new updated version of iMovie 10 won't let me open my previous files I created before the update today. I have a wedding that I'm trying to finish and deliver and now I can't because that file version won't open. I keep getting an error message

My job depends on it! I worked so hard on this wedding video and now it's lost and won't open. I work another job and don't have much time. I really don't want to start all over again. Please help me. Thanks so much for your assistance.

I also have Jolly's problem. I found the iMovie 9.0.9 folder and tried to launch the older version of iMove. It would not launch. I removed all of the iMovie preferences from the Preferences folder, removed iMove 10 from the applications folder, and restarted my Mac. iMove 9.0.9 still won't launch and I can't access my videos created with the older version of iMovie. Is there a way to uninstall iMovie 10 and reinstall iMovie 9.0.9?

• Installation Options for iMovie HD on Snow Leopard system with iLife '09

Greetings and thank-you for contributing suggestions on what is a well worn subject. I have read many of the posts existing on this topic and am trying to nip some details.
I have a late 2006 iMac that came with Tiger and iMovie HD which is now at version 6.0.3. When I upgraded to Snow Leopard (Boxed Set) I got iLife 09 but, as it was supposed to do, it left me iMovie HD which is what I have used. I have both sets of installation DVD's. (from the iMac and the SL upgrade)
Today I got a new MacMini and am plotting how to get iMovie HD on it.
I gather that I first need to remove iMovie 09 from the Mini. I do that by dragging its application bundle in finder to the trash and removing any receipt packages.
Do I have to remove all of the iLife 09 applications or just iMovie 09?
Then, I reinstall either all of iLife 06 from the iMac DVD or just iMovie HD. After that I can load iLife 09 from the SL DVD. That will leave the iMovie HD on the system but upgrade everything else.
Should I run software update from iMovie HD to try to get the 6.0.3 version or download and run the upgrade image? Does it matter?
I am good to go. Did I miss anything?
I also have a SuperDuper clone of the iMac system. Another possibility is to boot from that and clone it to the new Mini. Does anyone think this is a better idea?
Thanks again for the insights of your experience.

I think the issue is that if you install iMovie 06 on a system with iMovie 09 installed, iMovie 6 has no knowledge that iMovie 09 exists. Therefore iMovie 6 installs itself in the iMovie folder in the Applications Folder and assumes anything in there is old and can be trashed.
Apple fixed this with iMovie 6.04, but this is no longer available.
But if you install iMovie 6 first, and iMovie 9 second, iMovie 9 knows about iMovie 6 and will move it to a folder called "iMovie - Previous Versions".
In your case, I would uninstall iMovie 09 as you started to do, then run the migration assistant, then reinstall iMovie 09.
It should also work to create a folder on your old system called "iMovie - Previous Versions". Drag the iMovie 6 app into this folder and verify that it works. Then do the Migration Assistant. This should work, but I hesitate to recommend it because I have not tested it. Best case, it installs and you did not even have to uninstall iMovie 09. Worst case, delete the iMovie folder and reinstall iMovie 09.
For what its worth, I recently did a Migration Assistant from a SuperDuper clone (after a failed hard disk) that had both iMovie 09 and iMovie 6 installed, and it worked fine. But I have not tried your scenario.
I would use Migration Assistant because then you have the correct version of Snow Leopard for your system. You may not if you use a clone. A new machine may have microcode that is not released to the general release of OSX for several months. If your Mini is a used one and at least 6 months old, a clone should work OK.

• "The operation could not be completed" using iMovie 10.0.6

I'm using the new iMovie 10.0.6 with OS X Yosemite 10.10.
This is the first time I access to iMovie after upgrade to Yosemite.
When I try to begin a new movie and after select a theme the following message is shown:
"The operation could not be completed.
No other information is available about the problem"
The technical information obtained from the console is:
"13/11/14 11:46:50,195 iMovie[702]: -[NSAlert alertWithError:] called with nil NSError. A generic error message will be displayed, but the user deserves better."
So, I can't use iMovie as I expected...
Is anybody have this problem ?
Thanks

I had the exact same problem, working with apple support I had to uninstall iMovie and all the files connected with it and then download iMovie again. The problem is you iMovie is not creating the library file it needs to save your work.
Apple support was great at walking me through which files had to be deleted.
good luck

• Problems with iMovie 8.0.6 - view, edit, publish, drop clips

Ever since the update to latest version of iMovie which I used frequently up to now, I have not been all of a sudden be able to do the following:
- view clips in that are in project timeline in the view window (tried full screen as well)
- intermittent problem when dropping clips from events into project timeline (I can see they are in a project when I got to the list of projects but they do not show in the project timeline itself)
- unable to export clips error -2001
- unable to add transitions
Just to let you know that when I used iMovie today it worked fine for 1 project then new one it stopped working and I had all the above problems
I have also restarted iMovie and my computer several times in hope that may make a difference.
Is there a way to go back to previous version? I tried to download it and install it on the top but it did not let me. How do I uninstall iMovie? Will I use all the event clips or do I have to drag them out of library before uninstalling?
Any help with all this would be appreciated.

In the absence of any sooner reply, I just bit the bullet and went ahead with the iMovie upgrade, paying £10.49 for the privilege. I have mixed feelings about the outlay - I don't know how long one can reasonably expect to get free upgrades to ever-evolving software. That question aside, I am very happy with the result. I was seriously worried after reading various reviews that this might be a hopelessly dumbed-down version. Not the case. It has retained all the functionality I require. It is not seemingly any better than my previous version, but importantly (for me at least) is the fact that it is not any worse!
I'm sorry that I am not able to answer YOUR question about the camera! I would suggest probably just doing what I did, upgrading and seeing if it works. Alternatively, get yourself to the Genius Bar and see what they have to say. I myself am using footage shot on my new iPad Air 2 [he boasts], and it is fantastic. I am amazed by how the file sizes balloon when imported to iMovie, but now that I have worked out how to operate with all my iMovie Library media on an external drive that has ceased to be a problem.

• IMovie 9.0.2 project won't open

Using SL10.6.6, iMovie 9.0.2, turned off macbook pro last night, along with the external esata drive I was using to hold all events and projects. This morning all projects appear except for the one I was working on, could it be that it is over 3GB in size? I tried uninstalling iMovie, throwing out prefs, switching external drives, switching accounts, same thing happens- all projects and events appear except for this one project. It's event files are there, but not the project, I hope I did not lose the many edits and transitions, etc. that were days of work. I see the project file in the iMovie Projects folder along with the projects that do open up, but it does not open if I click it in this folder or in the project library. Thanks for all your help, it is badly needed.

Did you ever find out how to fix the problem? The same thing just happened to me.
