Uninstall/Install Hootenanny

Think i messed things up real good here.
A few weeks ago, i got a trojan virus on my system. Was able to remove it and do a system restore to an earlier date. Issues were fixed with system.
Then i attempted to edit some HTML files in dream weaver and the program kept crashing. i then found that all my CS3 programs were inoperable. I had installed versions of CS PS and AI and they no longer worked.
I attempted to run the install disk and when i clicked the "install CS3" button from the autorun.exe file it says that the "program is initializing" then nothing happens.
So...
i tried the add/remove programs to remove CS3 from windows for a fresh install, nothing happened, the uninstall did nothing to remove the program.
I tried 3rd party "Power Uninstallers" from cnet, and they did not work.
So...
i tried the cs3 clean up tool from adobe, the .dos screen detected files from cs3 and supposedly removed them from my system.
i tried the uninstaller and running the install disk again and still got the same problem.
Then i did something dangerous..
Did a manual search for all adobe program related files and .dll's and tired to erase them but some are not able to erase (i am in admin mode) and my icons are now unrecognizable icons as well as all my psd, ai, indd files.
what can i do here!!! Nothing seems to work, i cannot fresh install, i cannot uninstall anything. WTF! This is a legit copy too btw.
i havent tried to install or uninstall anything in safemode yet, and will try that later today, although i think the add/remove feature in my control panel will no longer work since i think by deleting manually CS3 components probably erased the built in uninstaller.
thanks for the help

Yes, you have busted the licensing system. Reformat the drive, reinstall Windows, reinstall CS3, call phone support to release activations in order to be able to reactivate.

  • I can't uninstall/install FireFox due to a pop-up that says: Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of Firefox..."

This problem arose when I attempted to upgrade my existing FireFox browser to the new FireFox 7. I clicked through the auto-update, but didn't think that anything changed, as the browser didn't look like the image in the feature explanation image I was viewing. I then tried to download Firefox 7, and when I tried to instal it, this process began.
I can't uninstall/install FireFox due to a pop-up that says: Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of Firefox..." When restarted and attempted again, the same pop up appears and I am stuck in an infinite loop.
I cannot locate the Mozilla file within my program files to try and delete cantankerous upgrade components, which seems to resolve this issue for many people. See: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/796566
I also tried completely deleting Firefox, which didn't work either-- I ended up doing a system restore, only to be met with the same infinite loop.
Now, when I click on the Mozilla icon, nothing happens. No window opens, no error message, nothing.
Why can't I find the Mozilla folder in my Programs File but can see it in Control Panel "Add or Remove Programs" (though I can't uninstal due to infinite loop)?

It is probably because you are not properly closing Firefox. Restarting your system would make sure that Firefox had terminated, but you do not have to do that.
To properly close Firefox on Windows systems, use
:File > Exit or "Firefox:" button > Exit
When you get the message "Firefox is already running" it is too late, and you must force termination of Firefox through the Windows Task Manager before restarting Firefox. Windows 7 has a keyboard shortcut to save you a step "Ctrl+Shift+Esc" then on "Processes" tab, select "firefox.exe" and use the "End Process" button. More thorough would be to right-click on the "firefox.exec" and choose "End Process Tree".
You would find firefox.exe in a Mozilla folder in your program files, but y0u would not want to delete it there, you would need to use the Control Panel which you have already identified and do it from there -- but generally you would not need to do that, and there is nothing in what you have posted to indicate that you should. But if you did do that, then don't let the install start Firefox for you as you would want to use you existing desktop icon or method of starting Firefox, and should decline having Firefox install start Firefox for you. When the install starts then invoke Firefox in your normal manner. This should eliminate problems of creating a new profile rather than using your old profile.

    Hi there,
I am also experiencing this problem, but with 1.4.2_06. Last week (late Jan 2005) the dynamic versioning was working fine, downloading and installing the latest version of Java as required.
However now (early Feb 2005), I am finding that after downloading the latest version of Java and beginning the install, I am getting this error.
I was hoping that you may have heard of a cause or solution for this problem?
    Many thanks

On Win 7 64 bit, Firefox 7, 8 and Nightly all refuse to see Flash. I have uninstalled, installed Flash 11 several times.

There are two different versions of Flash, the '''''ActiveX''''' version for IE and the '''Plugin''' version used by most other browsers.
1.Download the Flash Plugin version setup file from here: <br />
    [http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe Adobe Flash - Plugin version]. <br />
Save it to your Desktop.<br />
    2. Close Firefox using File > Exit <br />
then check the Task Manager > Processes tab to make sure '''firefox.exe''' is closed, <br />
    {XP: Ctrl+Alt+Del, Vista: Shift+Ctrl+ESC = Processes tab}
    3. Then run the Flash setup file from your Desktop.
    4. Start Firefox and test your installation here: https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
    * On Vista and Windows 7 you may need to run the plugin installer as Administrator by starting the installer via the right-click context menu if you do not get an UAC prompt to ask for permission to continue (i.e nothing seems to happen). <br />

  • Unable to Uninstall, Install, nor Update iTunes

I'm seriously at my wits end with this, let me start by saying. Furthermore, it's rather disgraceful that virtually nobody helped me with this issue the last time I posted it. Regardless of such, back to the matter at hand.
I have been trying for months--MONTHS--to get some kind of progress on this. I am running on Windows 8, 64-Bit.
Every time I attempt to update iTunes from the Apple Software Update dock, it nears completion...then an exclamation mark in a red circle appears near both downloads, one after the other, and ultimately fails.
Yes, I HAVE attempted the "Download Only" button. Yes, I HAVE attempted uninstalling from the Control Panel, which leads to the biggest problem in that I can't remove the blasted program from there. I click uninstall, it blinks the "starting" box for a second, then nothing. So, I attempt through the "change" option, only to recieve the message that a problem occured during INSTALLATION. As this is Windows 8, the CleanUp Utility from before and Mr. FixIt both fail to install. So, I finally got ahold of Revo Uninstaller, and after that finally turned something up, it stated that the installation package was missing.
I've searched my computer for iTunes64.msi. It shows up in Regedit--but nowhere else. Speaking of, yes, I have tried the various Regedit sugessions of WOW 64 value changing and such. I've also granted permissions to Everyone on every Apple related file on my computer.
    I repeat, I am running on Windows 8 64-Bit.
And please, please do not link me to Apple's site and suggest running from IE or Firefox, I have already tried that--and Google Chrome is my default browser for all, so I've tried from here, too.
I've looked around, and this seems not an entirely uncommon problem. However, none of the discussions bearing the same kinds of symptoms seem to ever be addressed. When iTunes NEEDS to be updated in order to sync with my iPod at all, this is nothing short of a crippling technical error.
Someone, anyone give me something to work with; this is nothing short of infuriating at this point.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
(There is also a link to the specific FixIt tool referred to above.)

  • Can't Uninstall/Install Quicktime...

Basically, I want to uninstall my old version of quicktime. I basically corrupted it (I believe) because it won't open. When I remove the app from my mac, it's no longer there. However, whenever I'm trying to re-install using the official Quicktime 7.6.4 on apple.com - it won't let me. It gives me an error message saying:
"Quicktime can't be installed on this disc. This version of Quicktime 7 can't be installed on the disc because Quicktime X is already present. Please us Software update to install the appropriate version of QuickTime for your mac".
The problem is, when I go to my software update..it doesn't detect that it needs to be updated. So..how am I supposed to fix it? And when I try to open movie files, Quick time isn't even detected as an option (even if I browse). As far as my knowledge..Quicktime is NO LONGER on my mac..yet it insists that it is. I just want to start fresh, I want to be able to re-install it. But it won't let me.
Anyone have any advice for this maddening problem? And just a little more info - (the way i corrupted the file in the first place) - I was trying to install Quicktime Pro 7 and it kept claiming my mac had the newest version. So I removed quicktime completely, and it kept telling me that quicktime (newer version was on my mac, even tho I removed it, even from the Library section) - then I used the Leopard boot up, and used the optional install..and now the file showed back up, but it doesn't have the quicktime logo, (has the application logo) - and it's non responsive. So I deleted that too...but as I said, when I try to install it again from Apple.com..it's a no go.

I am also having probelms with quicktime. I went to uninstall/reinstall it and have had no luck. When I run the uninstall shield, it starts and then before it goes farther than half way loaded it disappears.
I tried everything listed in the post below mine with no luck but I noticed that I have a different error code.
Also, I tried to install the standalone 7.0.4, it installs and then before it completes, when I click finish is comes up with this error:
    Error Number: 0x80040707

    Setup will now terminate
I can't do anything with quicktime: run updates or use the plugins: nothing comes up or it restarts my firefox. What do I do? Really appreciate any help, I'm useless technologically. Thanks

  • Cannot Uninstall, Install, or use

Ran the auto update, and now got the following message:
"The Older version of apple software update cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group."
I have tried just about everything listed in the forums, with no success.
Windows will not uninstall(via the control panel):
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Apple Software Update
    Itunes
So here I am, stuck with no working software, no uninstall options, and 2 ipods. And, to top it off system restore has failed to resolve this.
    Please help. I'll buy beer.

+I do get a missing .msi messages when trying to uninstall.+
Okay. That's usually problems with your installation configuration information.
    Let's try the following procedure.
First, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. If it goes, good. If it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to iTunes, Apple Software Update and Apple Mobile Device Support.
Next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility.
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Once you've installed it, use it to clear any existing iTunes, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Software Update and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC. Launch Windows Installer CleanUp ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"), find any iTunes, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support and/or QuickTime entries in the list of programs in CleanUp, select those entries, and click “remove”.
Next, we'll manually remove any leftover program files.
    (1) Open Local Disk (C:) in Computer or whichever disk programs are installed on.
    (2) Open the Program Files folder.
    (3) Right-click the iTunes folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
    (4) Right-click the Apple Software Update folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
    (5) Right-click the QuickTime folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. (Note: This folder may have already been deleted if QuickTime was successfully removed using Add/Remove Programs earlier.)
    (6) Delete the QuickTime and QuicktimeVR files located in the C:\Windows\system32\ folder. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue. (Note: These files may have already been deleted if QuickTime was successfully removed using Add/Remove Programs earlier.)
    (7) Right-click on the Recycle Bin and on the shortcut menu, click Empty Recycle Bin.
    (8) Restart your computer.
Now try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time? If so, reboot the PC again and try launching iTunes. Does it launch properly this time?

  • Uninstall-Install Full Version DW on Mac

ISSUE: After attempting to uninstall trial version of
Dreamweaver, I cannot install purchased full version of Dreamweaver
    CS3 because error message says:
Already Installed. There are no obvious files left.
Preferences folder has been deleted, too.
DETAILS: Prior to purchasing the full version of Dreamweaver
CS3, I downloaded the trial version to make sure it would work on
my Mac. It was an incredible program. I purchased Dreamweaver CS3
as part of the Adobe Master Collection. The installation process
for the Master Collection was very simple. When it came time for
the Dreamweaver portion of the installation, I was alerted that the
installation could not be completed until the trial version of
Dreamweaver was deleted. Being relatively new to the Mac OS, I
called Adobe Tech Support to find out how to delete the trial
version. I was advised that deleting programs on the Mac is as
simple as dragging the folder to the trash. I dragged the
executable file to the trash, and they said that should be it. I
emptied the trash, restarted the computer, and then attempted to
complete the installation process. Same error, it says Dreamweaver
is already installed. I did a search for any files or folders with
the word "dream" in it, and deleted those that appeared to relate
to Dreamweaver. Dumped trash, restart, attempt to install - same
    problem, Dreamweaver is already installed.
I cannot find any remnants of the trial Dreamweaver, and I
still can't install the purchased version! I have called Adobe Tech
Support on four different occasions and each time, I have been
transferred from one person to the next, each one not familiar with
    the Mac.
I bought the Master Collection so I could have Dreamweaver,
and now it's the only thing I can't use!
I have combed the internet for suggestions on how to fix
this. I have found detailed lists here in Adobe support files that
list each file used by Dreamweaver that must be deleted. I deleted
each folder, file, etc. There doesn't appear to be anything left,
but I still can't install. I can't use the installer program
because it was one of the things that got deleted! The Master
Collection's installer won't install, uninstall, or repair the
    trial version.
    I'm stuck. Any suggestions?

On the Mac, DO NOT drag applications to the trash to
    uninstall them. To
    safely uninstall software, double-click
    the product installer in Applications/Utilities/Adobe
    Installers.
Authenticate as an administrator, then select
Remove Components and follow the on-screen instructions.

  • Suddenly Cannot Uninstall/Install iTunes :( please help!

After a recent necessary restore, I went to the iTunes shortcut on my desktop to open the application and I receive the error message "that action is only available for products that are currently installed". So I attempted to re-download iTunes, however I am receiving the error message "older version of iTunes cannot be removed. Contact technical support group." (which I assume is this discussion board because I cannot find help anywhere else on the iTunes site.) When installing it attempts to uninstall the previous application, and the message reads "the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. iTunes.msi cannot be found."
Please advise and help, thank you!

  • Uninstall install parallels

Having problems with Parallels so I decided to do an uninstall re-install, my problem is that after doing the uninstall I still have a lot (pics) of parallels in my system. I don't want to lose my vm hence my crazy question. Does anyone know if when doing the uninstall, should it clean out parallels or and if so what does it leave some behind?

    Complications.
When trying to partition my computer using Boot Camp, I keep receiving this message.
"The disk cannot be partitioned because
    some files cannot be moved.
Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again."
Formating my Disk (hard drive) would remove everything that I have on my computer, which totally scares me.
Isn't there an easier way to fix this problem?
I've tried partiioning it equally and (Mac 300 GB -to- Windows 100 GB) and it still won't work.
    Please Help!!

  • Twitter Application uninstall / Install

    Hi there.
I deleted the application the other day thnking there was problems with it when it was just twitter playing up not the app itself.
I deleted it from the icon by pressing it and pressing the bin icon next to the app.
I then went to install again but still says it is installed.
I have tried to delete it from the app world but it doesn't go from choosing uninstall or delete it just stays there.
Any idea on how I can fix this problem
    Thank you very much
    Paul

Hi paultommo86 and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums!
Go into Settings>Software Updates then press Check for Updates. As Twitter is part of the software package, an update should be available, which should reinstall Twitter on your device.
Let me know if that works for you.
    Thanks.
