Uninstall itunes and then reinstall??

I always hated itunes but like apple hardware.  itunes is a piece of trash in my opinion.
None the less I have huge issues.  The only way I can sync itunes etc is to put my iMac into safe mode.  This is absolutely ridiculous!
I am running 10.7.5
And iMac is probably 2yrs old.
How in the world can I "uninstall itunes" then reinstall????  it wont let me put it in the trash.
I don't care what I have to do to get my ipad/iphone to work on this iMac.
Thanks
