Uninstall iTunes on mac

I saw this question brought up but no satisfactory answer was given. My iPad is up-to-date (1.1.2), but my iPad Classic won't sync. I have iTunes ver. 11.0.2. I'm running OS 10.6.8. The "iPad & iTunes Portable Genius" says to uninstall and install iTunes. And other users say you can't just reinstall iTunes over the old one. I've done a restore and a computer restart, so I wanting to try the deinstall, reinstall iTunes. Any ideas? I am reading bad comments about this iTunes, ver. 11, with other users not being able to sync as well.

iTunes for Mac is safe to Install over existing...
But it is Prudent to have and maintain a Backup of iTunes.

You should be able to simply visit: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ to download iTunes, and run the installer to overwrite your previous version...

I don't think this will fix your problem with restoring your iPhone 4 though. That is likely a seperate issue.
but i can do it with any windows?
Yes, you can theoretically restore your iPhone with any computer running the most current version of iTunes (10.6.3) unless there is some other issue.
    I get error code(21)
According to this support article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694#error21:
"These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. FollowTroubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service."
Do you run any anti-virus or third-party firewalls on your computer? Try disabling them and trying the restore process again. It may be possible that one of these security applications is interfering with the iPhone's ability to authenticate with Apple's servers.

Online it says I can unistall iTunes for my Mac but I have to have iTunes for OS X so it will not let me delete the application & uninstall it.

First, that is the jist of the message if you try to delete it. After that it is speculation.
After that, you can't sync your iDevices, but the OP doesn't care about that. It also is linked closely with displaying and playing various media on the Mac.
But then again, I don't think either of us are Apple developers. So why are you trying to bully your opinion on me, without offering any proof of your opinion?
And you are the one who stated your position was an opinion

You have shown a way to do it, but just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

  • Do I have to uninstall itunes on my old PC before importing/populating my Mac Book Pro with My iPad stuff?

    Good Day,
My apologies for the cumbersome subject line/question. In a nut shell, I currently, have my itunes account on my spouses PC and on my iPad(3). I love the Mac stuff so much that recently, I purchased a Mac Book Pro so I could work from two Mac products. I want to take all the apps that I purchased, music, photos etcetera that is on my ipad and put it on to my Mac Book, but it is my understanding that I can only have my music and purchased apps or itunes account on two procducts that includes a PC. So my first question is do I have to, uninstall the itunes on my spouses PC before I can synch my iPad to the Mac, keeping in mind that the itunes account is in my name.
Second, do you have any tips (best practices, pitfalls to look out for) for the best way to populate my Mac Book Pro with my iPad Apps and Music, I would like the apps and music to be on both the mac book and the iPad. I realize the most obvious answer to my second question is synching the iPad with my Mac but before I do that I would be greatful for any insight and expertise in this area.
Thanks so much for you time.
    L.

No you do not have to uninstall iTunes on the PC in order to unsync with the Mac. And where you got that information about having iTunes content on two products only is beyond me. You can associate your Apple ID and iTunes content with up to 10 devices but no more than 5 devices can be computers.
If you could copy the iTunes library to your new Mac, that would be the ideal thing to do in order to transfer the iTunes library over. That would make the process pretty easy. You can also download most purchased content again as long as you use the same Apple ID and you could move content into your iTunes library that way.
You will need to authorize the new Mac for your iTunes content. Launch iTunes on the Mac and got to Store>authorize this computer.
There are many articles that will guide you through copying the iTunes library to the Mac and you can look through a bunch of them here.
    https://www.google.com/search?q=copy%20itunes%20library%20to%20new%20mac
If you need to download past purchase ....
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
And this is a very informative user tip that will tell you how to move all of your iPad contents into the Mac if you cannot copy and transfer the iTunes library.

  • How do i uninstall itunes from my mac?

I have a MacBook Air that I received from work. It used to be used by another colleague and has their iTunes installed. I uninstalled iTunes by dragging the application to the trash and downloaded and installed the newest version today. I was not prompted to login and when I launch the program, it brings in the existing iTunes library from the other user.
How do I start over and bring my iTunes account onto this computer?
I went into the activity monitor and made sure to delete iTunes before the uninstall/install but can't seem to figure out what to do next.
    Thanks,
    Anne

You only dragged the app to the trash. There is no need to remove the app. There are associated files in the Users>Accounts>Music>iTunes folder that also need to be deleted.
If you have iTunes on another Mac then network the 2 Macs together and drag your iTunes folder into the Music folder on the receiving Mac.
Or if you have an ext HD then move your iTunes folder to the ext HD -  once the transfer is completed then plug in the ext HD to the MacBook Air and drag the iTunes folder over.

  • Itunes for mac won't open after upgrade. Keeps jumping

I have My macbook 10.x and i bought the new iPhone 5 and so i connect to my mac to sync music but it says the iTunes software is outdated i should upgrade to sync. I upgrade it goes pretty well with no interruptions but then after it is done i go to open iTunes and it jumps for a while and finally does not open. For weeks now i have been toiling the internet looking for a solution but to no avail. I tried to see if there was another upgrade i could do but there was none so i am really frustrated if you can imagine.
Please help me   iPhone is boring without music and internet

i had a problem similar to yours and better yet, i have the fix for it. i downloaded maverick 4 months ago and was without itunes ever since. all itunes icon did was bounce. itunes would never open and whats more, is when i would try to update it, i would get a "thank you for downloading itunes!" page , but the download would never work. so i scoured the net for solves. nothing that worked. <4 months later> then last night i took a new approach. i decided even though maverick would not allow me to uninstall itunes, i would find a way to uninstall itunes. then i would reinstall back to 11.1.5 i was successful and heres what i did.
    step one-
Back up your iTunes Library.itl file, found under ~/Music/iTunes
(even tho i didnt, i only had 3 artists in there at the time. and they didnt get erased but i advise you back up just in case.)
    step two-
download itunes 10.7 from apple. i used this link Download it from Apple here
(i pulled the link from Aarons website (awesometast.com). you download 10.7 however you want but i used the link above and have had no issues).
although im not sure you need to do this step ( you may be able to download 11.1.5 itunes without 10.7, i did because i was following intructions fromhttp://awesometoast.com/downgrading-to-itunes-10-7-from-itunes-11-on-osx/
    step 3-
    open Terminal
    step 4-
enter in these 3 commands hitting return after each line. 1st line nothing seems to happen, 2nd line nothing seems to happen and 3rd line gives you a warning and requires password to continue. when i did it, my password didnt appear as i entered it and i hit return without looking, so i entered it in again, although im not sure i had to the 2nd time.
    killall iTunes
    killall "iTunes Helper"
    sudo rm -rf /Applications/iTunes.app/
    step 5-
drag off and dump the itunes icon (which now has the ? shadow in it) off your dock.
    step 6-
install 10.7 itunes you downloaded earlier. (not sure if this part is neccesary. you may be able to just download 11.1.5 but i downloaded 10.7 because i was following Aarons steps.) itunes now works.
    step 7-
go to apple and update to 11.1.5 itunes. install it. open it and you have itunes 11.1.5 in perfect working order. assuming you have a decent internet speed for the downloads, the whole process takes very little time.
with those steps above, you can solve itunes just bouncing and not launching issues and also the "thank you for downloading" and nothing downloads issue. enjoy. also i would like to give a shout out to http://awesometoast.com and thank Aaron for the knowledge that enabled me to get itunes back into my life

  • Ipod shuffle not recognized by iTunes on mac

When i plug in my 4th Gen iPod Shuffle this is the error message I receive:
"An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again.
If the problem persists, uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again."
I reloaded iTunes but the problem persists. It works fine on my other Mac using the same cable. I get the Status Light on the Shuffle so the connection and cable are fine.

Apple will not deny the downgrade to OS X 10.10.1 in the App Store. Just make sure your Settings>App Store>Automatically check for updates>Install OS X updates box is unchecked. I did not uncheck mine and last night my MacBook Air was upgraded to 10.10.2 (14C81F), the corrupted update, automatically! I had to downgrade again this morning and Apple again allowed me to downgrade.

  • Uninstall itunes 11 and go back to 10.7

Hi, wanted to uninstall itunes 11 to itunes 10.7 because I cannot stand the new layout, how do I go about that safely? I have not put any new songs on it since it has been updated so thats not an issue. please help, I hate it.Mac book pro 13 inch. 10.7.4

If these instructions don't make sense to you then don't bother trying it.  Read them before doing anything and make sure you back up.  This forum is users only; you can't go to apple and complain about it if you mess something up.
Don't credit me for this, I got the help today from Rustyintegrale and Drew Reece.  I'm just putting it in one place.
    1. Go to Music > iTunes > Previous iTunes Libraries and look for the most recently dated file ending with ".itl "  (see photo).   Copy that file on to your desktop.  You will need this later.
    2. You need the itunes disk image.  Go to https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4555356?start=945&tstart=60
the second to last post by Rustyintegrale is a direct download of 10.7    He deserves the credit for this fix.
    3. You need to download and install Pacifist.  Go to   http://www.charlessoft.com  and dowload the disk image.   Install it in to your applications folder.
4.Open the 10.7 disk image and drag the "Install itunes" image in to your desktop.  Eject the disk image.
    5.  Quit iTunes.  Open Pacifist and drop the "install itunes" image on to the Pacifist icon in your dock.
    6. In the window that opens up select the top line "Content of install itunes" and select Install up in the top left hand corner.  The installation will begin.  When a dialogue box opens up select replace and check the box to not ask again.  If another dialogue box opens up, do the same thing.
    7. Once finished, close Pacifist.  From finder go to Music folder > iTunes folder
    Delete the .xml file
    Delete the .itl file
Drag the .itl file you saved to your desktop earlier in to the iTunes folder (the folder you are currently in).  Edit it's name so that it just reads "iTunes Library.itl"   This step is replacing your library data from before the upgrade to 11.
    8.  Go to disk Utility and repair permissions then re-boot your mac.  Open itunes    Job done.

  • I have uninstalled iTunes from an XP laptop and I now get the iTunesHelper Error2 screen (Apple Application Support was not found).

    Hi All,
I have uninstalled iTunes from an IBM ThinkPad X40 running XP and I now get the iTunesHelper Error2 screen (Apple Application Support was not found). I do not want to re-install iTunes as I am now a mac user. However I want to get rid of the message from the XP machine as it is irritating and I want to use it standalone for something else.
    Any ideas?

  • How to uninstall and reinstall mac os x...corrupt files...help!

i recently got a macbook pro to use for my photography and music and such, but i have never had a mac before and i'm used to pcs. i think a virus may have gotten on my computer because a couple days ago i went to upload a cd into itunes and i noticed that none of the songs i uploaded played. they showed up in the player but didn't actually play. so i restarted itunes and it said that my library was corrupt and that it had created a new one. the same thing happened in aperture. i exported some pictures from aperture to a file on my computer, and the pictures were there but half of them wouldn't display. so i restarted my computer, and aperture said it had to recover my folders, but it only recovered the folders that came with aperture...all of my library folders were gone. so i tried to import files from my computer into the aperture library and aperture just closed. this is actually the only way aperture will close--once it is open i have to force quit or just try to import files. since i have never worked with macs before the only way i can see to solve this problem is to burn all of my music and pictures to rewritable dvds (because those are the only files i really need) and then uninstall and reinstall mac os x. but i don't really know how to do this. any suggestions?

  • How do i uninstall itunes 7?

So i downloaded Itunes 7 but i hate it because it will now not play any of my playlists or it doesn't put all my artists on my ipod. I found a post that said if you uninstalled itunes 7 and re downloaded itune 6 it should be ok . So i tried to doing this and everytime when itunes 6 is almost done downloading after you press i accept button for the terms and conditions this msg pops up saying that it won't work because of files upgraded or something but i thought i got rid of them all? Much help would be thankful.

I realize you are hoping this reply will help fix your problem. I'm sorry to say it probably won't. But, I do have some additional information I think you and others struggling with the 7.0 nightmare might find useful.
If you got the same message I did when I tried to re-install 6.0.5 after uninstalling the "new" 7.0, it means that 7.0 has changed the format of either your downloaded music files or your iTunes folder/playlist files (I don't believe the messge had any additional details). They are now incompatible with previous versions of iTunes. This is why, even if you did make a System Restore checkpoint before upgrading (I did), you still cannot get back to 6.0.5. Nice, hey?
I have hundreds of dollars invested in iTunes music that I can no longer enjoy playing on my PC. Needless to say, I'm not buying any more songs or albums from iTunes Music Store. When Apple released iTunes v6.0 (I believe), they tried to force me to repurchase QuickTime Pro. I didn't and I miss having the Pro features. But, this is the last straw. No more iTunes Music Store purchases for this ex-customer!
If you haven't installed 7.0.1 yet, you might want to give that a try. That, and a DirectX upgrade to the latest distribution, cured most of the problems I was having with 7.0, but not all. 7.0.1 is still buggy (I'm assuming they didn't intend it to use 80-90% of a 2GHz CPU's cycles just to queue up the next MP3/4 music file in a playlist). But, at least now the songs play without distortion (well, most of the time).
I doubt stronly that Apple will release an utility to undo the changes in the data files that 7.0 made so we can drop back a version and, once again, enjoy iTunes (at least until they get the "7" release truly fixed). I hope they make a liar out of me, though. It's the only thing they can do now to get my Music Store business back.
