  • Why must I completely uninstall iTunes, quicktime etc. for every update?

Every time I try to update iTunes there is a problem installing the iTunes software. I am forced to uninstall iTunes, quicktime, bonjour etc. every time! This is very irritating and takes a longgg time (considering I must also fully install it again). I have already tried deleting my Temp folder...Any ideas?

Can you detail what "problem" arises? Is it the same problem every time, and if so what exactly is the error message. If you can provide that information, it will help people diagnose the problem and offer suggestions.
One common problem, for any OS or application update, is antivirus and antispyware software. It's usually a good idea to temporarily disable any such utility prior to attempting any software installation or upgrade.

  • Can't install or uninstall itunes/quicktime?

I've been trying for a few weeks now to uninstall itunes and quicktime.
Everytime I try uninstalling QuickTime, the following message comes up: "A newer version of QuickTime is already installed. This installation cannot proceed while the newer version of QuickTime is installed.
When I try to uninstall the itunes that is on my computer or install a more updated version, I get the following message: "The Windows Installer Service could not be acessed. This can occur if you're running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."
I tried using a program called Revo to uninstall both of these programs but it will not work. :/ This is frustrating me to no end, and it's exceptionally frustrating because I've just bought a new ipod touch and I currently can't use it.
    Please help.

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install.
If you still get the following message:
"The Windows Installer Service could not be acessed. This can occur if you're running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."

  • ITunes + Quicktime help needed!

okay so Quicktime uses up a lot of space on my hard drive and I only have it because its required for iTunes (the only media player I use). My music library is like 30+ gb and since I am a college student with no money to purchase an external harddrive for my 40gb labtop, I am forced to uninstall every program I can (and I've used up all my options)..
SO my question is this: what is the bare minimum tools, software, (whatever), etc. that I need to have in order to satisfy the iTunes requirements? AND is there any way to uninstall the components that I don't need/use? (and I don't need anything video related at all because I obviously don't have space for them anyway)
Whoever can help, if you can help, or if it even CAN be helped, please do.. I'm desperate and I love my music/music library.

    Petey G,
I had success in uploading iT6 andd QT7 after performing the following steps. Good luck ...
    Hey troubled Podheads,
I was one of the legion with problems in downloading iTunes6 and QT7 for Windows until I tried something (I must say that I am not a pc wizard and I don't know the technical reasons for why the following worked, it just did! So if there are any pc geeks out there, be sure to chime in). Anyway, this is what I did. First uninstall QuickTime if you do have it on your pc. If not, just go to the next step:
Go to START, then RUN. Type in regedit and then click OK. Your REGISTRY EDITOR should open. You should see HKEYLOCALMACHINE in the scroll down menu on the left, with a small box to its left. Make sure that the inside of the box has a negative sign - this will open up the next set of subfolders. Next, make sure that the subfolder, SOFTWARE, has a negative sign in the small box to its left. Next, make sure that there is a negative sign in the box next to the subfolder entitled, Apple Computer, Inc. You'll see at least three subfolders: iPod, iTunes and QuickTime. Click once on the QuickTime folder until it is highlighted and then delete it. You will be asked if you want to delete QuickTime and its subfolders. Click ok and then close out the Registry Editor.
Next, download the stand alone QuickTime 7 at this link (you may have to cut and paste this link to open this website):
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
When you download the stand alone QT7, you may get a couple of error messages (I did), but if you repeatedly click ok (like I did), the QT7 player should load with no problems.
Again, I am no pc geek, but this worked for me and I have gained access to iTunes6 (with video capacity) and my complete library is intact. Nothing like trial and error!! Good luck -- I hope this works for all of you frustrated Podheads out there!

  • Can't open iTunes!  Help, please.  Very frustrated

I need help.  I tried Apple Tech Support.  They walked me through all sort of steps after 45 minutes being on the phone, we were disconnected.  You would think they would call me back!  **** no.  So here it goes.  A month or so ago, when I connected my iPod to the computer, iTunes opened with a "new version" to download.  Okay, It instructed me to delete all iTune programs on the computer.  So, I did.  BIG MISTAKE.  When I try to download iTunes, a window comes up to "Repair" or "Delete".  If I select Repair, I get a message;  c:\Programs\iTunes\cdconfiguration\gcdrll.cfg.  After I cancel that, I tried again.  This time I picked "Delete".  This time I get a message; c:\Programs\iTunes\cdconfiguration\getlasterror: 5.  I can't get my iTunes back.  I'm very upset as I have pruchased a lot of music.  I can't do anything with my iPod.  Can some one help me please?  Sad that I can't get Apple to help.
I greatly appreciate any help you can supply me.
    Thank you  8(

    Try this,
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
(Reference instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components)
    3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch

  • ITunes can't read my iPhone and now I can't uninstall iTunes. Help!

One day out of the blue I was unable to sync my iPhone 4S on iTunes. I then updated my iTunes to the latest version 11.0.1.
Error message then pops out when I opened iTunes "The software required for communitcating with iPods and mobile phones was not installed correctly. Do you want iTunes to try to repaire this for you?"
I selected "Yes" and another error message appeared "The software could not be repaired. Please reinstall iTunes if you wish to use these devices."
However, now I can't uninstall iTunes because after it uninstalls till the last 1 second, an error message kept appearing "Error getting file security: C:\Program Files\iTunes\ GetLastError:5"
I'm using Windows Vista 32-bit Operating system. And I've checked the file security for iTunes folder under Program Files and I'm the owner.
Attached below are the error messages I've been encountering. Can some kind soul advise me? Because now I can't update my songs in my iPhone and it's becoming obsolete if I can't do anything with it.
    Thank you!

  • IPod won't connect to PC or iTunes? Help please?

I have an iPod 4th generation that I have not used for a long while. I decided to charge it up using a USB, and even though it does charge, it does not connect to my computer or to iTunes (it also doesn't display a charging symbol on the iPod although it is charging). I have completely uninstalled iTunes and everything else Apple related on my PC, and reinstalled it to no avail. I have tried rebooting the iPod, restarting everything, checking the firewalls, changing USB ports... When I look in my Device Manager, there is no Apple USB Driver (unless my iPhone is plugged in as well) or "Apple iPod" or anything... I tried to run diagnostic tests in iTunes, but it simply tells me it cannot find the device. I am certain it is the iPod, not my PC, that is having issues, because when I use my iPhone, it works perfectly. I am googling this issue nonstop but I can't seem to find a solution (if there even is one to find.)
I really don't want to have to reset the iPod because the only reason I want to access it is to view some pictures and other stuff that is currently on it. I am so aggravated right now because I even remember my passcode! but I don't have the option to type it in. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    -Thanks in advance..

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

    - Try another cable. The cable for 5G iPod (lightning connector) seems to be more prone to failure than the older cable.

  • Problem uninstalling Itunes/Quicktime/Apple products from my computer?

I have never had a problem with Itunes before, but recently, when trying to transfer newly downloaded songs from my Itunes, to my Ipod, the songs wouldn't sync. A message flashed up saying that I needed to re-install Itunes because Mobile Device Support was out of date.
When I tried to re-install Itunes however, my computer didn't allow me to do so. Instead I was presented with a message saying that I was unable to uninstall Itunes because Windows Installer was not properly downloaded on my computer. However, this problem only occurs exclusively in relation to Apple products installed on my computer, as I am able to re-install other programs.
I've tried every online solution offered and nothing works. No matter how hard I try, I can't re-install Itunes. Please help - I NEED MY MUSIC.

  • *Problems uninstalling itunes/quicktime after using windows install cleanup

I was having problems installing itunes/quicktime 7.6. Everytime I tried to install it it would say that it does not have a valid digital signiture. So one of the suggestions I saw on this forum was to install windows install cleanup and use it on itunes and quicktime. So I did but all it did is mess up my old itunes/quicktime. Now when I go to try and uninstall itunes and quicktime from the add and remove programs in the control pannel it does not even show itunes or quicktime in my program list. Any suggestions??

Ok, Update. I was able to remove itunes and quicktime manually after going into my windows task manager and to the processes tab and ended all processes involving itunes, apple, or quicktime. So now when I install itunes/quicktimes via apples site when it gets to the end it just disapears and nothing happens. I searched to see if it installed anything and it didn't, didn't even give me any reasons why. Can anyone help me with this?? It would help me a ton!
