Uninstall java 6 Yosemite (Java for OS X 2014-001)

In order to run certain Apps and an Uninstaller from an older app under OS X 10.10, I was requested to install Java 6 (legacy), which I did successfully (Java for OS X 2014-001).
But now, that I do not need Java any more I would like to uninstall it. Any idea how to proceed? Would it be enough to just remove the plugin JavaAppletPlugin.plugin, from my System>Library>Java folder? Thanks.

I think this article should help http://www.itworld.com/article/2713083/enterprise-software/remove-java-1-6-or-1- 7-on-your-mac.html

Also how can I check that the the correct Java that came with Yosemite is now working?

  • Java for OS X 2014-001 (Java SE 6 to 1.6.0_71) ?

    Hello,
couldn't find a special Java section at the Apple Support Community, so I've put it to the Mavericks board.
I know Java 6 is no longer a standard part of OS X and has to be installed manually since some time, but you know some applications and installers need it (Juniper Network Connect, Cisco VPN Client, Adobe Illustrator Installer, ... to name some).
Last week Oracle released some important Java Updates, so Java 7 for OS X is now at version 51.
But the new Update 71 for Java 6 has to be released by Apple, normally it should named like "Java for OS X 2014-001" and update Java SE 6 to v1.6.0_71.
( Like they did before with Java for OS X 2013-005, which updated Java SE 6 to v1.6.0_65 @ http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1572 )
I'am really wondering why Apple is not releasing the Java 6 Update as fast as possible, because it will close some really dangerous security issues!
Maybe anybody at Apple will give us an answer?

    Hi Marcel_75,
Don't expect an answer from Apple on this forum, we're all users just like you helping eachother out. Apple put Java support back in the hands of Oracle because of that very reason (amongst other things), they could not push out updates fast enough. By lettings Oracle handle this for every platform every Java user is assured of the latest patches as soon as posible.
In this case, who knows what's taking Apple so long. It has been almost a week.

  • Is installing Java for OS X 2014-001 safe?

Is there any reason to install Java for OS X 2014-001 posted 05-29-2014?
Is there any reason not  to install Java for OS X 2014-001 posted 05-29-2014?
Will this download remove/replace or overwrite my Java 7 install?
(Java for OS X 2014-001 includes installation improvements, and supersedes all previous versions of Java for OS X. This package installs the same version of Java 6 included in Java for OS X 2013-005. Please quit any Java applications before installing this update)
    See the following KB articles;
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6133

    What FOLLOWING paragraph?
The statement in parentheses say is "all previous versions of Java for OS X". In my understanding of the word previous, it does not mean replacing anything newer, such as version JAVA7 which is newer than version 6.

It looks like that link is currently dead; even Google only shows one comment on that and it's on a discussionsjapan.apple.com web page, translated as "the file of the above page (JavaForOSX2014-001.dmg) are broken links" so the link must have been broken very recently.

  • Pls just tell me how - CS6 Yosemite Java

so confused with all the advice over this everywhere i'm looking
    just updated a 2011 macbook pro to 10.10.2 - now illustrator cs6 won't open
it gets "To open “Adobe Illustrator CS6.app” you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime."
the link goes to Java for OS X 2014-001 also About Java for OS X 2014-001 - Apple Support but those pages say "Download the latest version of Java for OS X directly from Oracle. Download the latest version of Java for OS X directly from Oracle."
i did downloaded from here https://www.java.com/en/download/mac_download.jsp?locale=en and rebooted several times still no joy
all os and apps up to date -- i'm really going to hate this is the fix is to uninstall all my adobe apps and reinstall them -- does reinstalling actually work -- is that what i'm missing (it worked great before I upgraded 10.10 over 10.8

    gator soup,
You may be able to get round the legacy JAVA requirement as follows:
Create empty folders at “/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk” and “/System/Library/Java/Support/Deploy.bundle”, to make Illustrator use Jave SE 8 as it should.
The solution was presented by Kals in post #7 here:
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1637908
Here is the direct download site:
    Mac:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572
Some have found that the page may turn up blank to start with, so it may be necessary to reload the page.
Others have found that it may depend on browser. Specifically, a switch from Safari has solved it in one case.
The right way/order is to update the OS, then reinstall the applications, at least the one(s) with (remaining) issues.

  • Yosemite, Java and CS5 photoshop

Hi, When I tried to open my Photoshop after installing Yosemite it said I needed Java 6 to open it.  I went to the link which has a note on it saying information out of date go to the Oracle site... which I did and then downloaded Java 8 for Mac OX.... I then went back to open photoshop but it's still saying I need Java 6? Can you help? I also restarted the computer to see if it needed a re-book before Java 8 was in operation.
