Uninstall Java?

After installing the latest version of iTunes 7, playing Java games on Pogo is painfully slow and most of the time Java freezes up. I need to uninstall Java and then reinstall it but I don't know how to, can anyone help me please?
System Info - Mac OS X Version 10.4.8

Everybody gets these java permissions in DiskUtility. I do not feel this is a concern as long as you are running the most up to date version
Apple Computer supplies their own version of Java. Use the Software Update feature (available on the Apple menu) to check that you have the most up-to-date version of Java for your Mac.
Hope this helps

  • Uninstalled Java 6, installed Java 7, keep getting requests to install Java SE 6 plugin. Why?

    Because of the security issues with Java, I uninstalled Java 6 (using various terminal commands) and installed Java 7 from Oracle's website. Looking at /Library/Internet Plug-Ins, I can see that JavaAppletPlugin.plugin is there, and Get Info tells me that it is part of Java 7 Update 09.
    However, when I use Safari to try out a Java test page, or use one of the Java-based programs that I need to run for work, I get a message that says, "To open “PluginProcess,” you need a Java SE 6 runtime. Would you like to install one now?"  (PluginProcess is replaced by the program name if I am running a Java program.) If I click "Install", the Apple version of Java 6 gets installed.
    This doesn't make sense to me. Why would Java 7 need the Apple Java 6 environment? And why doesn't Safari or other Java based programs recognize that the Java 7 JavaAppletPlugin.plugin is on my computer already?
    Although I'm not really an IT person, I am pretty handy with the Terminal and command line operations, so if fixing this means using the command line, I'm good with that.
    Thanks!

    I think I've found a solution to the problem that Java Applications doesn't use Java 7. This seems to work for me. Try it and please confirm if it works for you.
    1.
    Install Java SE Development Kit 7u9 from Oracle
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk7u9-downloads-1859576 .html
    2.
    Execute something that triggers the prompt to install Java SE 6. for example i web site using java applet. And follow through with the installation. (after this you will have three java versions: Java6 32-bit, Java6 64-bit, Java7 64-bit)
    3.
    Open a new terminal window and execute the following commands.
    $ cd /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions
    $ sudo rm CurrentJDK
    Password: ********
    $ sudo ln -s /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.7.0_09.jdk/Contents/ CurrentJDK
    $ sudo ln -s CurrentJDK 1.7
    $ sudo ln -s CurrentJDK 1.7.0
    Note: I don't know if the last two lines are necessary, but I just tried to follow the existing pattern.

  • Firefox is blocking Java even though I had the updated version. Now I can't update or uninstall Java.

    On 4/2/12 Firefox informed me that Java had serious issues with security and I should let them block it, so I did. Later I found I couldn't play Pogo anymore so I tried to enable Java but it still wouldn't work. My Java is up to date, 6.0.290.11. Now I cannot update Java, error 1606, nor can I uninstall Java from my computer, same error cannot access location, in order to re-install. Since I was using the most updated version, my Java should not have been blocked. Anyone else have this problem? I am stuck and can't update or re-install or anything.

    I have the latest version and today it blocked it

  • How do i uninstall java from my MacBook Pro running Lion?

    I would like to uninstall Java from my Lion OS running MacBook Pro. *it got installed a while back while running a Java program, and due to Fashback and other holes, I would like it off of my system, other than a complete re-install, how do I remove it?

    There's a lot more installed than what that article says. The Java installation package includes much more than just:
    /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/
    Take a look at the package with Pacifist.

  • I have uninstalled Java  - how do I get it back?

    Hi,
    I uninstalled Java & Adobe FLash - just as a precaution - did a scan and check and clean up of my Mac, now how do I get those two applications back? And ensure they are clean?
    Thanks
    Tracy

    I have reinstalled Java - worked fine - thank you. I was reading the other posts about the previous version being better. SHould I uninstall again and reinstall the earlier version Javafor Mac OS 10.7?
    Stick with the latest version. In that particular case he needed the previous version because a program he uses didn't work anymore with the update.
    Also when I went to the adobe link it was all in Italian. Is there an English version or doesn't it matter?
    I think the Flash Player is multilingual. Anyway if you want to be sure go to the following page and then click "Get the latest version"

  • Error when uninstalling java

    I get the following message when I try to unistall 1.4 of java:
    error number 0x80040702 description failed to load dll:actpanel and the uninstall fails. Any help on this would be appreciated.

    This is where the nerd of me comes out.
    - This is NOT a Java Problem -
    This is actually an installshield problem and nothing much has really been documented on this.
    This error occurs when Java's setup program doesn't kill itself correctly, either installing or uninstalling itself.
    I 'believe' (Untested but I believe strongly) that removing from a windows box registry the key

    -= The Java Uninstall Thing Key =- (I am unsure what this is because I dont have windows - not that I hate windows or anything, just dont own a copy)
    Reboot, and uninstall again, it should uninstall just dandy. But keep in mind, its probably just easier to type "format c: /u", or uninstall java 1.4.x maunally.

    P.S. If you ever get the 0x80040702 error it can 'most probably' be fixed by this. It could also be a required dll is corrupt or missing, or is locked by another program that installshield needs (such as installshield itself).

  • How to uninstall Java (JRE MSI) while keeping Internet Explorer open?

    I have a situation where I need to have the ability to uninstall Java (currently JRE 1.7 Update 75, but could really be any version in the future).  We are using the JRE MSI.  I know how to uninstall it silently just fine, but the gotcha problem comes in that we have thousands of computers and some of them may have IE running during the uninstall.
    Now normally I would just use taskkill.exe to terminate IE ahead of time then run Java uninstall.  However, we are being told for the uninstall, this isn't an option even if we notify the customers about IE closing.  So I'm looking for a command line way to uninstall Java, but allow it to be successfully uninstalled if IE is running (If a reboot is required after the fact, that is fine).
    I have tried several things without success already:
    MSIRESTARTMANAGERCONTROL=Enable (And Disable)
    IEOPEN=1
    IERESTART=1
    In every case, I keep getting a Java Window that reads the below:
    If I choose Later, then it will continue upon the next restart of the computer, which would be fine, except there doesn't seem to be a way to choose this option using the command line or a property??
    I would be even be happy to trick Java into thinking it isn't being used currently even if the browser is open, but I can't seem to figure out how Java knows it is being used or not currently used.
    (FYI, if you install Java while IE is running that is fine, and if you don't close IE after the fact then run the uninstall command right after, it uninstalls fine even though IE is running.  I believe that is the case because the plug-in didn't fully get activated in IE until a close and reopen).
    Any ideas on how this can be accomplished?  Thanks.

  • How to uninstall Java runtime 1.5 completely and then install Java 1.4...

    Dear Friends,
    I have a software running with Java runtime 1.4. When the new version of Java (1.5) became available, I installed it. And then the software I am using becomes useless since it doesn't work with the new Java 1.5. I uninstalled java 1.5 and then reinstalled Java 1.4. But it doesn't work. I'll be very glad if someone can help me uninstalling Java 1.5 completely from my computer.

    I have a similar problem under Windows XP. When I go to "Control Panel" and try to remove that Java installation, clicking on the "Change/Remove" button has no effect whatsoever: the program name simply dims for a moment, and then reappears with no evident change. Is there not a separate routine available to effect a removal, so the program may be reinstalled?

  • Anyway to uninstall java jre using the windows xp command line

    Hi,
    Is there anyway I can uninstall Java JRE 1.6_6 by using the xp cmd.
    I need to do this for my team project where ive made a custom installer that installs a JRE and my java application. I then also need to make an uninstaller which removes my application (ive done that), and also removes the JRE. I know you can do this from the control panel but I need to uninstall both at the same time in one simple interface.
    Im using batch scripts to do this, as the installer package im using is useless.
    Thanks
    Shazan

    You could try uninstalling via the silent approach. The original jre install bundle is necessary.
    See http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/plugin/developer_guide/silent.html (this is 1.4.2 specific, but it should work for 6 also)
    <jre>.exe /s /v "/qn [REBOOT=Suppress]" /x
    Looks like the command you'll need.
    How much has your custom installer modified the java installer ? I don't think you're allowed modify the jre bundle in any way.

  • Cannot uninstall Java JRE 1.7 32bits

    For some reason my firefox browser stopped detecting java and now I can't run anything with java on it because it says that it's not installed, so I went to add/remove programs and tried to uninstall java but it just won't get removed.
    http://rcupload.com/images/IDSnu.png
    So when I try to uninstall it (Java(TM) 7 Update 5) a little window appears with a progress bar, after it completes it disappears but Java is still there..
    this is the window that appears: http://rcupload.com/images/HLUwZ.png
    Here's what I tried to do:
    1) Use CCleaner to uninstall it: - I choose the program, press uninstall and it disappears, but when I refresh the list it will still be there. I also tried using the "remove entry" button in CCleaner and i just get a message saying "cannot delete msi installer'.
    2) I tried using JavaRA: - I ran it as administrator, clicked "remove older versions", and I got the message that Java JDK 1.7 was uninstalled and all the files, but now I see that there is no folder for it at "C:\program files (x86)\Java\" (there was one inside before, called something like jre-7) and the icon in the installed programs appears like a white box instead of looking the like the java logo.
    3) I tried downloading java and installing it: - I run it, it downloads and it gets to a screen where it asks me if I want to install a toolbar, I click next and I get this message: http://rcupload.com/images/xiCIu.png
    I also tried changing the destination folder. same result.
    -- Resumed: I need to get rid of Java(TM) 7 Update 5 but the uninstaller seems not to work and files are missing.
    Any help will be appreciated!
    Thanks.

    Hi - using the Microsoft fix-it tool available here, running as administrator, did the trick for me: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
    I selected the options that allowed me to manually choose which program to uninstall...then I was able to re-install java from the Oracle Java 7 download/installer.
    Good luck!

  • Help with uninstalling Java in Mavericks

    Hi All,  I am running OS X 10.9.1 on a Macbook Air.  I cannot seem to figure out how to uninstall Java.  It is running as a process, yet whenver I kill it, it restarts.  I would like to completely delete it but can't seem to figure out how.  There is no Java control panel or preference pane in system utilities.
    Here's what I've tried:
    1. Following the instructions at http://www.java.com/en/download/help/mac_uninstall_java.xml and moving JavaAppletPlugin.plugin to the trash and restarting, Java is still running according to Activity Monitor.
    2. Installing Java 7 again - still no control panel or preference pane in system utilities
    3. Searching library for everything java related and throwing it in the trash, restarting, still no luck.
    I'm pretty much out of ideas.   It's using a fair amount of CPU time and since I'm not running any apps that need it, I want it gone.
    Thanks in advance!

    I had an attempt but had some problems. I decided to use JBuilder's Design function and get to display my open --> file menu bar. The code is implemented but the bar doesn't show up.
    If I do it my way by using the following code it manages to work:
    // Menu Bar
    MenuBar mbar = new MenuBar();
    setMenuBar(mbar);
    Menu file = new Menu("File");
    MenuItem item1, item2, item3;
    file.add(item1 = new MenuItem("New"));
    file.add(item2 = new MenuItem("Open"));
    file.add(item3 = new MenuItem("Close"));
    mbar.add(file);
    Any reason why? Sorry for the n00b questions.
