How to uninstall Office for Mac
I installed Office for Mac using the wrong product key and need to uninstall it. How do I do that, and how do I not uninstall specific files that have been created already (e.g., word documents).
ThanksIf you just want to change the product ID:
Close all Office apps and daemons:
1. run the Office Removal tool, you will find it here:
Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Additional Tools/Remove Office/
RemoveOffice
2. When the first screen appear "Welcome to remove office" hold down
the option key and you will be given button "remove license info only"
3. Click that
4. next time you run office you will be promted for new licencing info.
If you want to completely remove it, follow Susan's advice. You may need to log in as Administrator for it to complete the uninstall properly. During the install, it will prompt you to save your data (documents, spreadsheets, etc.). -
Installed MS Office for Mac, after uninstalling test drive, still reg to TD
I installed MS Office for Mac 2004 this morning, after being very careful to uninstall the test drive version, after reading about problems it causes not to do so. I followed the instructions to uninstall, emptied the trash after, did the installation, updates, etc. But when I look at the "about" section of word, etc, it shows that the product is licensed to "Office 2004 Test Drive User". I did fill in the info on name, address, etc, and the "test version" watermarks that I was seeing on excel spreadsheets pre-installation are gone now. I have rebooted the machine. Do I need to register each application separately? Did I miss something in the uninstall?
Also, after installing the new Office, I had problems accessing the internet from accounts other than the one from which I'd done the installation. I asked about that in the internet related subforum here, thought I had it fixed, but it's been inconsistent, seems to work on-and-off in the different accounts. Did the accessing of the net during the course of the install knock something out of place?I installed office after deleting test drive. Registration is fine. Microsoft creates a user pref folder for each user account. This will be activated with your individual pref. the first time you open one of the office programs. It will be different/reset for each user on the computer. So it is possible that different users would experience different problems connecting to the internet. I copied my users pref and library folder over from my powerbook to the imac and all of my settings seem to work just fine on the new imac.
My suggestion would be to uninstall all versions of office on your imac and then reinstall office 2004. Be sure to do this in an administrator account and to repair permissions before and after install.
Good luck! -
My excellent, but old Mac Book Pro only has a 160 GB hard drive. I've only got 6 GB remaining. I know I have multiple copies of MS Office for Mac installed and only need the latest. is there an uninstaller I can use to get rid of the early versions? Any potential issues if I do that? I use a 1TB drive for Time Machine back ups.

OWC www.macsales.com can help you upgrade your hard drive to SSD or larger hdd, and I would clone your system to another external as well as with TimeMachine.

The effects of having actually used MacKeeper to do anything are a completely different matter. The fastest way to take an exquisitely designed and painstakingly engineered Mac and make it run like a steaming pile of dung is to install and use such ill-conceived "cleaning" or "security" products. This is just one example of a broad category of time- and money-wasters capable of causing damage that can only be rectified by reinstalling OS X, restoring from a backup, or completely erasing your system and rebuilding it from the ground up. Never install such junk on a Mac.
If you used MacKeeper to encrypt any files or folders, use MacKeeper to un-encrypt them first.
Quit the MacKeeper app if it is running.
Open your Applications folder: Using the Finder's Go menu, select Applications.
Drag the MacKeeper icon from your Applications folder (not the Dock) to the Trash.
You will be asked to authenticate (twice):
You do not need to provide a reason for uninstalling it:
Just click the Uninstall MacKeeper button. You will be asked to authenticate again.
After it uninstalls you may empty the Trash and restart your Mac. All that will remain is an inert log file that does nothing but occupy space on your hard disk. -
Office for mac 2011 not working correctly on new Macbook Pro- Help
I have a MacBook Pro from September and had One to One transfer all files/programs (including 2008 Office). I then purchased the Office for Mac 2011 program and they installed it (I guess they did not remove the older program). It has never worked correctly and I have tried to contact Microsoft to no avail.
None of the documents open with Fonts intact (Word and Excel open up blank though the graphic elements show up. I have to Select All and choose a font to make it show up.
Powerpoint is barely functional (none of the layouts actually show up when I select them, the sidebar of slides does not update as I type or try to change themese, etc. And then when I type, the program freezes and then shuts down.
I have uninstalled 2008 and 2011 and then re-installed 2011 but the same issues occur. Someone on the microsoft community told me to remove my duplicate fonts, I ddi that and the same issues still occur. My brother has the same laptop and Office for Mac 2011 and no issues.
Can someone help me basically try to start fresh- should I uninstall again? (I waas told that installing/uninstalling too many times can further the problem).
Help!
Thanks,

Compatibility with Office for Mac
I'll ask this in the Pages section, though it also applies to Numbers.
I currently use MS Office for Mac 2011, but would like to uninstall it and use iWork 09. I do have to interactively work on basic text documents and basic spreadsheets with other people, so I need to know that formatting, attributes, etc. will not be altered if I make simple editing changes and then send a document to others as a Word document. Again, just basic document here...nothing fancy.Larry you could use Yvan's uninstall script. It will delete all but custom made templates and documents.
To uninstall correctly iWork, go to Yvans iDisk :
<http://public.me.com/koenigyvan>
Download :
For_iWork:iWork '09:uninstall iWork '09.zip
Expand the archive and run the script. -
I bought my Macbook pro August 2010 along with Office for Mac 2008.
I received Office for Mac 2011 disc last Nov and have installed it.
I now have both Office for Mac 2008 and 2011 on the Mac. How do I uninstall the 2008 version????In addition, try looking in the Microsoft Office folder in your Applications folder. Some Office 2008 uninstallers are located there.
Office for Mac has said that there is nothing wrong with having both versions on your system. While this would allow you to have both Entourage and Outlook email support, I do not really trust what they have said, as I think it could cause issues down the road. -
Microsoft Office for Mac questions
Hi,
I've just bought Microsoft Office for Mac (student teacher version) for my new 20" iMac. I seem to remember reading somewhere that I need to uninstall the test version that comes with the iMac before installing the "real" software.
Is this true, & if so, how do I do it?
Does it install fairly easily or is it problematical?
Will it be available to the 4 user a/c's we have set up (i.e. not just the main a/c) or do I have to do anything to achieve this?
Thanks. In the MS Office folder is a folder named Addtional Tools. Inside that folder is the uninstaller. You must uninstall the Trial version (if you have installed it) before installing the normal version of Office. If you have never installed the Trial version then simply drag the entire Trial folder to the Trash and delete it. Then install your normal version of Office.
Any application installed in the Applications folder is available to any user unless specifically restricted in the account.

Kernel Panics : Office for Mac or Safari ?
Hi everyone,
Happy New Year 2015 for a start !
I have been experiencing Kernel panics with my mac book pro mid 2010radomly for a few months now but I am not very good in reading the reports provided once the mac reboots. I observed that Powerpoint and Safari are usually the softwares I am using when experiencing the crash.
Last time, maybe it was because of Word office 2011.
I migrated to Yosemite 2 months ago (version 10.10.1) and I guess my office for mac is updated : Version 14.4.7. Same thing for Safari (version 8.0.2).
Here is the report below : Anyone would understand my problem ?
Thanks in advance to the community.
Greuz.

I have a question for the community, knowing that I have a strong feeling that my problem is due to Powerpoint.
What do you guys think about uninstall/reinstall Office for Mac 2011 on my macbook pro now that I updated to Yosemite ?
I would follow this modus operandi : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2398768
Thank you guys for your answers.

Office for Mac not working with 10.5.8
I upgraded to Mac 10.5.8, but neither my 2004 Office for Mac not Acrobat 5.0 are functioning properly. Should I uninstall and reinstall or do I need to upgrade?
You need Acrobat 7.1

Sequential numbering using Office for Mac
I have Office for MAC. Is there an easy way to create raffle tickets with sequential numbers?
First, uninstall the software responsible for installing these extensions:
com.logmein.driver.LogMeInSoundDriver 1.0.0
com.squirrels.driver.AirParrotSpeakers 1.8
com.rim.driver.BlackBerryUSBDriverInt 0.0.68
If removing the software and extensions doesn't solve the problem, then you are probably correct about the GPU:
The problem is likely due to the discreet GPU failing. Download gfxCardStatus 2.3 and use it to disable the GPU. This is a temporary workaround until you get your motherboard replaced. -
IMac Freezing & Microsoft Office for Mac
I took my 7 day old iMac back to the store I purchased from. After two days of solid testing, the techs there were unable to make my machine freeze or crash. This is after I experienced either a freeze or completely black screen/reboot every 2 to 5 minutes.
I brought the machine back to my office, fired it up and you guessed it...it froze. Here's the thing...the only software open was Microsoft's Entourage.
Yeah, I know...seems to go against all things good to have to load Microsoft products on a Mac, but my clients all use Office.
I uninstalled Entourage and so far so good...no crashing or freezing or black screens or anything.
I'm keeping a log of the software I have open for the next few days just in case the freezing happens again. That way, I'll know exactly what I have open at the time of the failure.
So I'm wondering if anyone else with a freezing iMac has Office 2004 loaded and could this perhaps be the culprit?Hi Bee,
Thanks for the welcome. My original post about my iMac problems are over in the Freezing iMac thread. After talking with AppleCare, I decided to take my new machine back to the store I bought it. They are what I think called a boutique Mac store. Anyway, they have a 7 day return policy...get all your money back.
I was so frustrated with the freezing, crashing, black screens, I went in with the intent of returning it for a refund. This small neighborhood store has been averaging selling 3 iMacs a week for since these Alum ones were released. Mine is the only one they have heard of with these issues. They were mystified and were really curious about this problem.
Anyway, I uninstalled the trial software before installing my copy of Microsoft Office. So even though your suggestion is very thoughtful and helpful, it doesn't apply to my machine.
I'm going to continue to monitor and record what I'm doing, although if I have many more unproductive days due to this machine, I will simply have to return it. As I've posted before, I'm self-employed...no workey, no eatey.
I was just wondering since Office for Mac 2004 was written as universal and not specifically for Intel Macs, could they be the culprit...although it looks like the problem people are having is pretty wide and so most likely the software is not the problem. Just trying to grasp for an answer... -
Buying a new MAcBook Pro - How do i move files and office for Mac
I am buying a new MacBook Pro and have a license for my office for Mac 2008. Can I re-install into the new computer or do i need to buy a new license? Also, how do i move all my itunes, photos, and files from one to the other!
Use TDM for transferring files, drag libraries into folders (iTunes Library into iTunes Folder for example). The Firewire cable will need to be a 6 to 9 pin, or an adapter.
If you're giving up the pB, De-authorize it for iTunes.
Don't do applications between G4 and Intel machines, better to reinstall.
Uninstall Office and use your key on the new Machine. Run Office update.
Connecting Your PowerBook to Another Computer Using FireWire Target Disk Mode.
If you want to transfer files between your PowerBook and another FireWire-equipped
Macintosh computer, or you have a problem that prevents your computer from starting
up, you can use FireWire Target Disk Mode to connect to another computer. When you
start up your computer in FireWire Target Disk Mode, the other computer can access
your PowerBook as if it were an external hard disk.
Note: When using FireWire Target Disk Mode, it’s a good idea to connect your power
adapter to the PowerBook.
To connect your PowerBook to another computer in FireWire Target Disk Mode:
1 Make sure that your PowerBook is shut down.
2 Use a FireWire cable to connect your PowerBook to another FireWire-equipped
computer.
3 Start up your PowerBook and immediately hold down the T key.
Your PowerBook display shows the FireWire logo. The other computer’s display shows
the PowerBook internal hard disk icon. You can now drag and drop files between the
computers.
4 When you finish transferring files, drag the PowerBook hard disk icon to the Trash.
5 Press the power button (®) on the PowerBook to shut it down, and then disconnect
the FireWire cable.
