Uninstall reinstall itunes windows

I need to do an 'in place' reinstall of the Win7 OS files. The process requires that itunes be uninstalled.
I have my music libraries stored on my local drive under my specific folder(s). After the reinstall process for the OS, I do not want to go through the headache of reloading all my music files into iTunes.
Prior to the uninstall of iTunes, do I need to first backup the ENTIRE iTunes folder(s) and then after the OS refresh copy the iTunes folder(s) back or is there a simpler more direct method?
Mark

Hello Markg2
The iTunes library files should remain after you uninstall iTunes. When you reinstall iTunes everything should be in the same spot where you left it. I would recommend backing up your files before reinstalling an operating system. The articles below will give more information about removing iTunes and related components and as well as backing up.

Is it possible to uninstall & reinstall iTunes and not have to redo all of my playlists etc.?
I updated iTunes and the installation failed and now I cannot open iTunes.  The fix is to unistall and reinstall iTunes but I don't want to have to redo all of my playlists and things.

Do not worry all your Data including Playlist, etc. will remain as it is.
    Do the following:
Uninstall from Windows the following five programs: iTunes, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour and Apple Application Support. You do this from an applet in Control Panel called Programs & Features (in Windows 8, 7, or Vista) or Add or Remove Programs (in Windows XP).
Download the latest version of iTunes from Apple and note the location you're saving it to so you can find it once it's done.
Run the iTunes installation as an administrator, just Right click iTunes installer and Run as Administrator.
Note : If you are unable to Remove Apple Mobile Device Support you can skip that.

  • Trying to uninstall & reinstall iTunes?

Itunes would not open. Got a message on my windows 7 computer to uninstall/ reinstall iTunes. Followed the Apple recommended instructions for Uninstall. I cannot get Apple Mobile Device Support to uninstall. Even went to Microsoft Fixit program to Force the uninstall & it is still there. Itunes will not open when reinstalled. Still get error message

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • HT2703 Can i reinstall Bonjour without uninstalling/reinstalling itunes after accidental removal?

Can i reinstall Bonjour, after accidental removal, without uninstall/reinstalling itunes?

Uninstalling and then reinstalling your iTunes should also get your Bonjour reinstalled.
For the reinstall, use an installer downloaded from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
... or you could get it back via your Apple Software Update for Windows.
If you'd prefer not to uninstall iTunes, try the following procedure.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the Bonjour.msi (or Bonjour64.msi) to do a standalone Bonjour install.

At my PC startup, I get an error message "AppleSyncNotifier.exe--Entry Point Not Found"  My iPhone now doesn't show up as a Device in either iTunes or My Computer on my PC. I've uninstalled/ reinstalled iTunes & run diagnostics-no luck. Ideas?

I think my problem is fixed now.
For the fun of it, I reinstalled iTunes 9.2.1 today (using the exact same installer as I did yesterday), but this time I didn't uninstall iTunes first. As expected, iTunes recognized my iPhone (as I expected it to, until my next reboot).
A few minutes later, Software Update showed up and among the updates is "iPhone SDK Compatibility Update". The description indicates that installing this should fix an issue where iPhones and iPod touches aren't recognized by iTunes. Isn't that interesting?
I installed that update and most of the others waiting for me (including Java, Safari 5.0.1, and a few others - not 10.6.4 though, due to the issues with nVidia graphics cards). After the reboot, I started iTunes, and it saw my iPhone!
So, if you're having this same problem, I'd recommend tracking down this update and see if that does the trick for you. Hopefully it will.

  • Itunes states "ipod detected but could not be identified properly" when I plug in my new nano. tried uninstalling/reinstalling itunes 6 times - get pop-up "itunes helper error" with abort, retry, ignore options. retry doesn't work

I am trying to connect my new nano to my iTunes account. I keep getting msg "ipod detected but not identified properly. disconnect and reconnect. if problem persists uninstall/reinstall iTunes". I've uninstalled/ reinstalled iTunes 6 times but keep getting the same msg.
when installing iTunes I get a pop-up "iTunes helper error" check access. with options to abort, retry, ignore. retry doesn't work. ignore installs iTunes but it doesn't recognize my nano. abort shuts down the download.
how do I fix these problems??

If I uninstall and reinstall iTunes in Windows, will I lose my iTunes library? Do I need to save my songs somewhere before I uninstall it?

  • Trying to uninstall & reinstall itunes cos restored comp & lost files

Ok so I restored my computer because of problems I had which seemed to do the trick but itunes now doesn't work when you click on icon I get window saying 'this action is for products already installed'. So I tried to uninstall program in add/remove programs so can reinstall itunes but it won't let me uninstall it and says 'the feature that you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable', and also that I need to enter an alternate path which contains the installation package 'iTunes.msi'. So how do I remove it & reinstall itunes????? Its driving me nuts!! Please can anyone help????

That network resource message when you try to uninstall usually responds to an installer clean up using the Microsoft installer cleanup utility.
Since it sounds as though things have got in a muddle after a resotore, I think it is best to go for removing iTunes and all related components follwed by clean up where necessary.
    Here is a method:
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program. To run the program –All Programs>>Windows Install Cleanup
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
    restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
    If it does, install iTunes.
