Can I uninstall and reinstall Photoshop CS6 on a Mac running 10.9.4 without first deactivating Photoshop? Photoshop has begun to occasionally freeze, so I want to try reinstalling it to see if that fixes the problem.

You can try.  The activation might still be retained.  You should try to locate the activation code(s) in the event you need to start from scratch at any point.  They could be available thru your Adobe account online if you registered the software before.

While not too happy about that, I'm willing to try it. Here's the problem, I suspect that I will also need to deactivate first to prevent some issue with Adobe to later re-activate the fresh install ... the trouble is, part of what seems to be corrupted are the menu items relating to "deactivate", "activate", etc. ... they are grayed out, so I have no way to deactivate before I attempt a complete uninstall.
    A few questions;
    Is there a known issue and fix for a missing deactivation / activation menu options for PS CS3?
    Is there a way to manually preserve the activation key and remove all the other possible corrupted files and registry entries so that I can do a clean install?
    Is there another way to fix a corrupted install of PS CS3?

    Yes, I had already googled and found all those 3rd party solutions before I posted my original question ... I'm not too comfortable with those, rather, I am looking for a "cleaner" solution directly from Adobe. By the way, I re-installed PS CS3 again, then ran the CC Cleaner tool BEFORE uninstalling ... it did function doing this, it removed PS CS3, but left other parts installed (Bridge CS3), I then re-installed PS CS3, but the result was no better than using the Windows uninstaller.
    The more I get into this, the more I think I may need a fresh install of my Windows 7 and all applications ... problem is, I still can't deactivate Photoshop CS3 so as to re-install it on a fresh system build ... that  is, unless the Adobe server would recognize my computer's motherboard s/n and Windows 7 key and allows automatic re-activation ... does their server go by number of current activations or does it remember particulars of each current activation so as to "refresh" the activation on a clean install to an old computer previously activated?
    Is it just me, or is this too many hoops to jump through to fix what used to be a solid piece of software? Is there some recent Windows patch identified as conflicting with CS3 software?

    The problem was probably caused by migrating pse 8 as adobe applications can never be migrated, they need to be reinstalled from the original disk or download or they won't work right.
    If you look in Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 is there an uninstaller for pse 8?
    If so, try using it and then reinstall pse 8 from your original disk.
    If that doesn't work, then you can try this, but you might end up having to run the adobe creative cloud cleaner and then manually delete all the adobe stuff on your computer and starting over with a fresh install of pse 8.

  • Uninstalled without Deactivating

    Is there anywhere to manage the CC activations?
    In several instances, I uninstalled without deactivating, thinking that would de-activate the software. Now I know about the deactivation in Help, but that doesn't help me now. Even though I do NOT have too many activations of PS and Acrobat going, it keeps telling me I do.
    Additionally, I have some CC activations on a computer I no longer have in my possession and I want to deactivate those.
    How do I handle this?

    Hi Michelle,
    Generally what should happen if you attempt to activate on too many computers is you should be presented with an option to "De-active All" this allows you to reactivate again on the two allowed computers.

    Uninstalling and then reinstalling your iTunes should also get your Bonjour reinstalled.
    For the reinstall, use an installer downloaded from the Apple website:

    The process with not affect the PDFs, but I would be concerned about registration and such. If you uninstall without deactivating, you may lose the second install option and have to call Adobe to reset. I would try a repair first and see if that helps. The repair can be done from Control Panel>Programs & Preferences (since you apparently cannot open Acrobat).
    If you do uninstall, do the following before reinstalling: run http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html and remove any left over parts of the Acrobat folder. If Acrobat is part of a CS installation, you may need to check there (CS forum) for the proper way to reinstall.
    If you have an upgrade, then be sure to have the SN of the previous product available.

    I think i should jump in here as i had worked with installer and licensing team for some time earlier. Retail serial numbers are tied up with 2 activations which means one serial number can be used simultaneously on 2 machines in activated state. After that if someone tries to activate the same serial number on 3rd machine, serial number is accepted but the moment activation is attempted to adobe server error is displayed that "this SN has already been used on 2 other machines. Please deactivate from one of the machines and then use the same SN on this machine or try from a new SN". This is the reason deactivation information is prompted to users during uninstallation. In case if they forget to deactivate but uninstalled, they will continue to see the same error on 3rd machine. This process of deactivating from one of two machines and then activating to 3rd machine is referred as transfer activation. And there is a limit to this number actually whose limit i don't remember exactly but hardly anyone reaches that limit.
    So if you have to reinstall on the same machine, you can continue without deactivating the software and there is not any limit to activation on the same machine. Adobe activation server tracks only machine information and number of transfer activation.
    Only difference between permanent and suspend deactivation is in case of permanent it removes SN from installed databse also along with deactivation. While in case of suspend deactivation, SN is retained in one of the database file but the deactivation is done from server. Advantage of this method is if someone has lost the SN, he/she can install in trial and at the launch time software is activated either automatically or already entered SN is displayed to him/her and activation is prompted.

    Can I uninstall Elements 12 and reinstall on the same machine without deactivating? If not, I do not see "deactivate" on the help menu like other Adobe products. (Elements will rarely even load on my i7 machine and I want to reinstall it on the C drive to see if that helps.)

    Premiere Elements 11 and 12 take over setting the project preset based on the properties of the first video drag to the Expert workspace Timeline. Sometimes it does it OK, sometimes not. In this scheme, you never do get to see the new project dialog as in prior versions. But it is there.
    To set the project preset manually, open a new project, go to File Menu/New/Project. Set your project preset to match the properties of your source media. Before you exit the final dialog in that area, be sure to put a check mark next to "Force Selected Project Setting on This Project". Then back in the Premiere Elements 12 Expert workspace, import your media via Add Media/Files and Folders (if appropriate)/Project Assets from where you drag the file(s) to the Timeline.
    Definitely do the Premiere Elements 12 default installation (Local Disc C/Program Files/Adobe/....) and assure Scratch Disks set up so that they are directed to a location with enough free hard drive space to accept them...they can be directed to an external hard drive (formatted NTFS rather than FAT32 - Windows). In the opened Premiere Elements project, see Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks.)

    This morning iTunes started refusing to open. When opened it bounces twice and then closes.
    Strange, because I didn;t just update. It worked fine after my last update and up until the present. I'm not sure but it could have started happening after I plugged in my iPod Touch 16gb 2.0. I did that sometime this morning.
    I did a complete uninstall/reinstall of both Itunes and Quicktime, and I also uninstalled Flip to Mac as I read here it could be related. Restarted my computer many times. Now, same problem, iTunes won't start.
    I live in noisy Barcelona and i'm going crazy without tunes...

    Update... so i backed up files from three folders shown below:
    'User'/AppData/Roaming/Apple Computer/
    'User'/AppData/Local/Apple Computer/
    'User'/Music/iTunes/(all files except music and app folders)
    Then I uninstalled iTunes & Quicktime
    Restarted Machine
    Reinstalled iTunes (which reinstalls Quicktime as well)
    Opend iTunes to make sure it worked (it did), then closed it.
    Copied all of the original files back over to their original locations.
    Restarted iTunes
    Everything appears to be back to normal (iPhone sync works properly as well)
    Hope this helps for anyone else seeking an answer!

    I can use the regular tabs, but new tabs will continue to open with strange things on them. One was marked as a Dangerous page by my anti-virus program (Trend Micro).

    Don't what to say but WOW! downloaded and ran malwarebytes. It found a Trojan and something else. At the same time, my Trend Micro finally ran a scan and found 2 trojans and a cycbot, both associated with Adobe. Did the superantispyware program too, found a couple things. Uninstalled reinstalled firefox without any of the old personal settings, so NO add-ons at all. Opened in SAFE MODE and the error STILL persists. Computer does not want to shut-down and I find that I can do a few things then programs won't open anymore (such as my Trend Micro antivirus and even firefox.) I have no idea how any of this happened. I know a fair amount about computers and do NOT open links etc that I am not sure about. It was working fine while using in my truck yesterday. When I brought it in the house, it started doing all this. Just plain WEIRD! Any other ideas?
