Uninstall Safari 4....is it possible???

Not happy with the newest version of Safari. I'd like to go back to an older version. How do I uninstall it??
Downloading 3.2.1 now.

I'm in a mutable mood today - caught me while the wind is moving in the right direction.

Alternative is to reinstall the OS using Archive and Install, or if you have a recent cloned backup of the HD, use that to restore Safari 3 world.

  • How can I install Safari for Yosemite after I uninstalled Safari?

I uninstalled Safari hoping to remove some type of bug that I could not remove in extensions or add-ons. Last resort type of thing. I do not have the installation disc since I made the upgrade via the App Store. The only solution I see is a reinstallation of Yosemite which seems like using a tunicate when a bandaid would do.
    Thanks.

You will need to reinstall Yosemite:
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Uninstall safari 3.1.1

Is it possible to uninstall Safari 3.1.1 and just go back to 3.1? I find that I cannot run certain software without the new Java 6 which can only be installed on Intel Duo Core processor machines which I do not have. Or am I up in the night? If so, how do I go about doing that, just reinstall 3.1?
    Thanks,

I have never used time machine before.Do I just select the Safari icon in the application folder and then go back before the update?

  • Uninstalling Safari on Lion

Before upgrading to Lion, I was using Snow Leopard. That was when I downloaded and installed Safari 5.1. After that, I upgraded to Lion.
1st problem, Apple.com doesn't offer a Safari for Lion; only Snow Leopard but it's still 5.1
2nd problem, I want to remove Safari from my iMac that is running Lion but I get this message “Safari.app” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by Mac OS X.
How do I uninstall Safari from Lion and reinstall it? Because from what I know, before I upgraded to Lion, I had downloaded Safari 5.1 which was meant for Snow Leopard and not Lion. So now when i upgrade to Lion, it doesn't function properly. Thanks!

You mentioned that the problems started after the upgrade. It's possible you have a third party add on installed that was compatible with prior versions of Safari but not 5.1.
    Manually uninstall third-party add-ons
If the software doesn't have an uninstall feature, quit Safari and try manually removing the third-party add-on files. These files are usually installed in one or more of the following locations:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
    /Library/Input Methods/
    /Library/InputManagers/
    /Library/ScriptingAdditions
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
    ~/Library/Input Methods/
    ~/Library/InputManagers/
    ~/Library/ScriptingAdditions
The first four locations listed are in the root-level Library on your hard disk, not the user-level Library in your Home folder. The tilde (~) represents your Home folder.
To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library.

  • Uninstall Safari 4.1 and go back to 4.0

I think I need some help , I want to uninstall Safari 4.1 and install Safari 4.0.

You could try another method of reverting to an older version
of Safari, short of an 'archive & install + update' of 10.4.11.
A second method involves using Pacifist utility from Charlessoft.
This would run adequately in Demo mode, for free, and work:
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
Some ideas on that, are among the topics in this page:
    http://appletoolbox.com/2010/07/troubleshooting-safari-5-0-eliminating-slowness- crashing-page-loading-problems-and-more/#downgrade
The details (versions involved) is different in the above page,
but the factors and methods would be similar to do the job.
I've reverted iTunes and a few other apps before, but some of
them need to have files or receipt/packages removed from a
    place they may be hiding in the system, for to install again;
but with an integrated browser such a Safari, that may be hard.
But not impossible. And, there is the Archive & Install (+ update)
method; to give you a new system folder. If you approach that
carefully, the new folder/system would retain your current info.
Since my primary browser is not Safari, I often upgrade it last
among others, since installing that restarts my computer(s)
often at a time when I am not needing to restart them, yet.
    {My Macs run for a month or more at a time; without shutdown.}
+What are the problems, exactly, you are having with Safari 4.1+
+and what have you tried to fix them, short of revert/remove it?+
If you have Safari set as the default browser, you can change it
and run with something else; maybe Camino, until you sort it out.
    Good luck & happy computing!

How do you uninstall safari 5.1 and g back to safari 5.05

Rather than fiddle with the tar file, if it wasn't saved, or using Pacifist, simply DL and install the
Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 update. It'll wipe all Safari 5.1 components and install Safari 5.0.5.

  • How to uninstall Safari 4.0.3

I've been getting a lot of problems with the newly updated Safari... hanging pages (on facebook, onion and etc... all you get is a turning wheel, no crash windows, have to force quite and start again, the second time always works). And it also generating those .aspx files. And, on top of it, it is very slow. This has been the worst user experience I had with anything related to Mac...
I tried many suggestions I saw on this site... reset Safari included... nothing worked. I'd like to get rid of this version. Is there a good/right way to uninstall Safari?
    Thanks.

Safari 4.0.3 works fine on Tiger; I'm running it and I have no problems. The problems you have are system issues: things that should have been done on a regular basis and certainly before installing any new software, but haven't been, so that is where the problems lie. Here are some things you can do to help yourself:
    1. Quit Safari if it's running.
    2. Go to System Preferences > Network > TCP/IP and in the DNS Server window, enter these two servers instead of the ones from your ISP:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
click Apply Now, and quit System Preferences.
    3. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    4. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Web Page Previews and delete the contents of that folder.
    5. If you want to +*completely disable*+ the Top Sites (and Cover Flow) feature, open Terminal and copy/paste this command:
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSnapshotsUpdatePolicy -int 2
    6. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    7. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    8. Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete these files (if you have them):
    Downloads.plist
    History.plist
    Form Values
    LastSession.plist
    WebpageIcons.db
Then Repair Disk Permissions and restart Safari. That should improve your browsing speed and resolve your other issues.

  • Can't open or uninstall Safari 5

I downloaded Safari a while back when offered along with an update notice for iTunes which I use for my iPod but never really used Safari. I rececntly bought an iPhone and wanted to use Safari on my PC.
I could not open it: got this error message: Safari Entry Point not Found - the procedure entry point CFPropertyListCreateWithData could not be located in the dynamic link library CoreFoundation.dll.
So I thought I would uninstall Safari and reinstall but got the following error message: Could Not Open Key - HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Classes\Webkit.CFDictionaryPropertyBag\CLSID. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnal.
Any suggestions on how to get Safari up and running? I'm only ata basic level technically.

The launch error looks like you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support dll. But the way I go about fixing that involves an uninstall of both AAS and Safari. So we'd better try fixing that Key error first (even if it's unrelated to the apparently-AAS-related launch error).
We'd better have a look at the permissions on the Key.
In your Start menu, click "Run", type regedit and hit enter.
    Expand HKEYLOCALMACHINE
    Expand Software
    Expand Classes
    Expand Webkit.CFDictionaryPropertyBag
Right-click on CLSID. What permissions are currently showing for your user account name, the administrators group, and the SYSTEM account?
(Not sure what precisely you're supposed to see in there because I don't have that particular key in my registry.)

For a variety of reasons, mostly related to security, the iOS operating system limits what can be done with respect to file uploading and downloading. But whenever you encounter a limitation like this always think, "There must be an app for this."
Check the apps James Ward suggests.

Simply run the uninstaller that came with the Safari 4 disk image. It will uninstall Safari 4 and restore Safari 3.2.1. There were only two files on the Safari 4 disk image, the installer and the uninstaller. Did you not notice it?
If you deleted the disk image you need to download it again and run the unistaller.

  • How do I uninstall Safari 4?

I need to uninstall Safari 4 and reload Safari 3.
Mail has stopped working the moment it was installed.
This is in a work environment, where we connect to an Exchange Server.
When I installed Safari 4 Beta I had to uninstall it because it would make Mail crash.
Apple did supply an uninstall app with the Beta version – does anyone have this or know where I can get it? Or if they have one for the full version?
We don't have Time Machines at work because I work in a bank and we don't encourage external hard drives!

I have a theory this is an incompatibility with Safari 4 on PowerPC machines (not intel) running Leopard.
No, my Powerbook G4 running Leopard 10.5.7 is absolutely flying with Safari 4.0.2 and I know a couple of other people with G4s and G5s running Leopard and having no issues whatever with Safari 4.
I have tested running on firefox, it crashes as well. I read the crash logs and found that it is complaining about the java. I believe that the java version that comes with the Safari 4 is the culprit
Safari updates and Java Updates are completely separate. There was a Java update released after Safari 4. Have you installed that yet? I have and am not having Java issues with any sites, secure or not.
    Cheers

  • How do I uninstall safari 4 beta?

I am a new mac user so any help would be appreciated. I have a new macbook. I downloaded and installed safari 4 beta and don't like the problems it causes. I can't access hotmail. I can get in but can't open any of the emails. I also can't click and open links in emails. I want to uninstall safari beta 4 but don't know how. I'd like to go back to the previous version. Any help would be appreciated and remember I'm a newbie mac user so be gentle!

That would normally work if there was a previous version installed. However, I deleted all my previous versions and the Uninstaller will not uninstall Safari since it can't find a previous version. I downloaded an earlier version 3.2.3 but it tells me that I have a later version installed and won't install 3.2.3. Furthermore, whatever version I bring up has concierge in its header line which I can't get rid of either. Finally, Safari continues to crash even after I reset it, delete whatever concierge items I can find on my computer, etc. Help is disparately needed. Fortunately, I am an old Firefox user, and now trying Camino and Opera but I would like help in figuring out how to use Safari. Thanks.

  • Problem uninstalling safari 4.0, need help!

Two months ago I had installed safari 4.0 on my win xp based system. After few days I was cleaning hard disks and removing temporary files. I have deleted
    C:DOCUME~1username~1.000LOCALS~1TempIXP057.TMP
Folder and now when I am trying to uninstall Safari 4 then got problem. A windows Installer dialog box opens that says:
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource or unavailable. I tried to remove it from control panel but no success. Now when I tried to install the safari 4, it also giving error and I can’t install safari 4. please suggest any idea to fix this problem!

    Many thanks.
In the majority of cases of a missing .msi message (they can hit any software that uses Windows Installer), the msi in question is damaged rather than missing. It contains the installation database for the application (listing what and where all the files and registry entries are for the application) which is why trouble with an .msi causes uninstall trouble. So we have to get Safari uninstalled by other means than the Add or Remove Programs control panel.
These sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Safari entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp. In My Computer, open Local Disk C: or whichever drive you have your program files installed on.
    Open the "Program Files" folder.
Right-click on the "Safari" folder and select "Delete".
Your Safari 4.0.x should be gone now.

  • Uninstalling Safari 4.0.4 breaks Internet Shortcuts, HTTP no longer handled

Installed Safari 4.0.4 on Windows 7 to see if my site was truly as compatible with Safari as it was with Chrome. After checking it out I uninstalled Safari and it deleted the protocol handlers for HTTP breaking Internet Shortcuts.
When I click on an Internet Shortcut now I get the error: "Unable to open this Internet Shortcut. The protocol "http" does not have a registered program". I have Firefox 3.6, Google Chrome 5(dev), and IE 8 installed, and Chrome is my default.
Tried re-installing Chrome and Firefox to see if it would repair the handlers Safari deleted, but with unchanged results. I'm hesitant to try reinstalling Safari for obvious reasons.
Has this happened to anyone else, and if so, how did you repair your HTTP protocol handlers?

It hasn't happened to me, but the following page gives a good account of how to go about changing a file assocition or protocol in Windows 7. (If it's like the equivalent control panel in Vista, the "Protocol" section is way down the bottom of the list that comes up.)
