Uninstall Safari For Good

I was wondering, I use FireFox and I want to keep it. I don't want Safari anymore. I know that to uninstall an app you just drag it to the trash. But does FireFox work off of Safari? As in, if I delete Safari will anything bad happen to my MacBook Pro? Has anyone here removed Safari?

Hi,
I would recommend against removing Safari simply for the fact that it is problematic to reinstall should you ever need to use it again. Also, the Safari preferences is where you need to make the change for setting the system default browser.
Firefox is completely self contained and does not rely on Safari at all.
Other than a few megabytes of disk space you won't gain much by deleting Safari.

Can I uninstall Safari so that I can use webkit? I don't want too much space to be used. If it ruins my system or anything, please warn me about that. Also, how do I uninstall Safari If I can do that?

Assuming you are talking about the WebKit nightly, this operation would ruin your system. WebKit is as it says WebKit and not Safari. It contains an open-source version of the framework that renders webpages. Safari is not included.

  • How Can I Remove Potoshop Elements 9 for Good From my Mac?

I would like to know how to Deactivate and uninstall it for good. The Deactivate option from Help pull down menu is grayed out? I made a bad choice and now I want to get rid of this program. Customer support didn't help me and in fact they sent me on a wild goose chase. They were very rude and I had it... I would rather use Gimp instead.
    Thanks

It is for PSE as well. PSE is a subset of the code for Photoshop, a creative suite application.
And I have never known a migration not to fail eventually. PSE has an installer that strews stuff all over your hard drive. Adobe doesn't conform to the apple developer requirements and the MA isn't programmed to look in all the places it sticks bits and bobs. Most people think they have a successful migration until they need something that didn't make it over.
All versions of PSE are 32 bits.

  • How to Uninstall a Plugin in Safari for Windows?

    Hi,

I know that on the Mac they are stored in specific folders but I dont know how it works in Windows. How do I uninstall Safari plugins in Windows?
    Thanks,

I am also trying to do this. I am trying to remove the Flash plugin from Safari for Windows. Anybody know how to do this?
Or, is there a Flash blocker for the Windows version of Safari? That would work, too.

  • How can I install Safari for Yosemite after I uninstalled Safari?

I uninstalled Safari hoping to remove some type of bug that I could not remove in extensions or add-ons. Last resort type of thing. I do not have the installation disc since I made the upgrade via the App Store. The only solution I see is a reinstallation of Yosemite which seems like using a tunicate when a bandaid would do.
    Thanks.

You will need to reinstall Yosemite:
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Help make the reading list (safari) go away --FOR GOOD (not just unchecking preferences--that is not a solution)

The READING LIST feature on safari is soo freakin annoying. Even after unchecking it in bookmark preferences, everytime I signin someplace, I still see it invisibly recording my information. The reading glasses icon isn't in my bookbar anymore, but I see a small puff go up in the left side of my screen. How can we make this stop? I even confirmed it's true, because AFTER turning it off under preferences, when I went back to turn it on just to check hours later, I was horrified that it still kept collecting information through sites I visited. This feature's invasive and irritating. Is there a way to terminate the reading list for good???

You can turn off Reading List by clicking the reading glasses icon.

  • Safari Crashed for good?

Hi i downloaded safari speed to "Speed" up my safari, well so much for that. I pressed some brush button while messing around. and now the program wont start up. anyone know how to reinstall safari for my mac or fix this some how?

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
I haven't used Safari Speed in quite awhile. However, I believe within the app. exists "enable" buttons to reverse the various "disable" functions of the applications. Choose "enable" for those functions you changed. When complete, close the application and restart Safari. If it doesn't start, restart the computer and try again.

  • Uninstall Safari 4.1 and go back to 4.0

I think I need some help , I want to uninstall Safari 4.1 and install Safari 4.0.

You could try another method of reverting to an older version
of Safari, short of an 'archive & install + update' of 10.4.11.
A second method involves using Pacifist utility from Charlessoft.
This would run adequately in Demo mode, for free, and work:
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
Some ideas on that, are among the topics in this page:
    http://appletoolbox.com/2010/07/troubleshooting-safari-5-0-eliminating-slowness- crashing-page-loading-problems-and-more/#downgrade
The details (versions involved) is different in the above page,
but the factors and methods would be similar to do the job.
I've reverted iTunes and a few other apps before, but some of
them need to have files or receipt/packages removed from a
    place they may be hiding in the system, for to install again;
but with an integrated browser such a Safari, that may be hard.
But not impossible. And, there is the Archive & Install (+ update)
method; to give you a new system folder. If you approach that
carefully, the new folder/system would retain your current info.
Since my primary browser is not Safari, I often upgrade it last
among others, since installing that restarts my computer(s)
often at a time when I am not needing to restart them, yet.
    {My Macs run for a month or more at a time; without shutdown.}
+What are the problems, exactly, you are having with Safari 4.1+
+and what have you tried to fix them, short of revert/remove it?+
If you have Safari set as the default browser, you can change it
and run with something else; maybe Camino, until you sort it out.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Uninstalling Safari 4.0.4 breaks Internet Shortcuts, HTTP no longer handled

Installed Safari 4.0.4 on Windows 7 to see if my site was truly as compatible with Safari as it was with Chrome. After checking it out I uninstalled Safari and it deleted the protocol handlers for HTTP breaking Internet Shortcuts.
When I click on an Internet Shortcut now I get the error: "Unable to open this Internet Shortcut. The protocol "http" does not have a registered program". I have Firefox 3.6, Google Chrome 5(dev), and IE 8 installed, and Chrome is my default.
Tried re-installing Chrome and Firefox to see if it would repair the handlers Safari deleted, but with unchanged results. I'm hesitant to try reinstalling Safari for obvious reasons.
Has this happened to anyone else, and if so, how did you repair your HTTP protocol handlers?

It hasn't happened to me, but the following page gives a good account of how to go about changing a file assocition or protocol in Windows 7. (If it's like the equivalent control panel in Vista, the "Protocol" section is way down the bottom of the list that comes up.)

  • Safari for windows and itunes won't connect to the internet

    Hi all,
I tried to connect to the itunes store this morning and it does't work. I can't tell you the last time I actually used the itunes store. Months ago at least. I'm not getting an error message or anything. The bar gets less than half way accross then just stops.
Second problem. After finally getting fed up with internet explorer I decided to change my browser to Safari (for windows). It insalled fine and opens ok. But it just won't load any web pages. Again, no error messages or anything. The bar gets part way accross then just stops.
I have tried all of the tips on the apple website and I've also tried all the tips in the forums that have worked for everyone else but not me.
I've added Safari and checked that itunes is allowed in my firewall. Even tried turning my firewall off.
I've checked that I'm not connecting through a proxy server.
I've tried resetting the host file.
All of the software on my computer is up to date.
I've tried flushing the DNS settings.
I've run diagnostics in itunes. (All ok)
My internet explorer runs ok so there is no problem with my internet connection.
I've tried just about everything I can think of and nothing works so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Emma

I'm also having this problem for about 3 months now. Tried contacting twice with Apple Support and after a few tips, they just stopped responding. Tried uninstalling the entire Apple Suite (QuickTime, iTunes, Safari, Bonjour, etc.) and still didn't work. APPLE, PLEASE HELP US HERE!

I have a lot of apps in my library now, but I'll not format my PC just to get iTunes and Safari working. Sorry, but if it doesn't work or we don't receive any response, I'll ditch Apple products for good.

  • How to uninstall safari in Lion

    Hi there
Before I had some problems with Mountain Lion, I came back to Lion, but when I migrated my Time Machine backup, I had some compatibility problems with Safari, Mail ans iChat, and they are not opening now because of the version. I tried to reinstall the programs, but a message saying that the version I have is newer appeared and I couldn't install it.
Trying to uninstall the programs, I had problems saying that as the programs are required for mac os x it could'nt be uninstalled.
I tried to repair the permissions but it didn't work.
How can I uninstall Safari, Mail and iChat without problems to the system?
    Thanks

How did you migrate your TM backup? You should have just started from the recovery drive, erase the hard drive, and do a full restore from TM from the last known good backup of Lion. Then everything would have been the correct versions.
The OS will probably not let you delete those applications directly, but you can try moving them to the desktop, then later to the trash when you replace them in the application folder from wherever you are getting the older versions.
But, if you really want to go back to before ML, I would just do a erase and full restore.
On the other hand, I find ML so much better than Lion. Why in the world would you want to go back. Maybe state what problems you have with Mountain Lion and someone else might have advise to help solve those problems.

  • Uninstalled Safari. Any way to re-install it?

Safari was giving me an avalanche of problems on Mavericks. I do 95% of my browsing using Chrome, so I just uninstalled Safari figuring I'd just download it again and install and see if that fixed the problem. Yeah... about that. I can't find Safari available for download anywhere.
Is there any way to re-install Safari?
Or am I going to have to try to do a full format/reinstall of Mavericks in order to get it back?

The only way to reinstall Safari would be to reinstall Mavericks. You don't need to reformat your drive or anything of that nature. You can use Recovery to reinstall OSX. All you data will be retained, however, it is always a good idea to keep a current backup.
