Uninstall, then Reinstall--Music Lost?

I've had too many problems with my iPhone 3G. Someone suggested that I may have a corrupted file in my iTunes which is causing problems with the phone. They suggested that I uninstall iTunes and reinstall. If I uninstall iTunes, will I lose all my music? That is the only thing I'm concerned about. Anyone have ideas? Thanks!

No, you won't. The uninstall doesn't affect the music files. If you want to be sure, copy your iTunes Library off to somewhere safe. By default, the library is in your My Music folder, but you can check by looking at iTunes Preferences, Advanced tab, General subtab, which should show the location of the library.
When you reinstall iTunes, if the library is in its default location, iTunes will probably recognise it automatically. If not, just import it.

    None of that worked but I sat on it for almost 5 hrs and tried the last option of setting up my iPhone as NEW instead of restoring it from a backup that I created through my Indian bought iOS devises. And that solved the problem. So looks like I cannot backup my old settings. But was able to get my aps and contacts recognized through cloud.
    And just in case I also updated the iTunes later. Everything works perfect now. Thanks for your thoughts too.

    Im unable to open iTunes on my computer since I updated to the latest version. This message appears "QuickTime was not found. QuickTime is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again." If I do so, will I lose all of my music? How can I fix this so I can sync my phone?

    No, you won't lose any music. iTunes is simply a method for playing the music on your computer
    You can remove and reinstall and upon doing so, you should be asked to specify where your music is, if in fact it is somewhere other than the standard place - ie
    C:\Documents and Settings\xxxxxxxxx\My Documents\My Music
    Not sure what happens to your image files though, in terms of cover art etc
    You'll more than likely lose play counts also, if that's of concern

    Apparently, something went way wrong SOMEWHERE, SOMEHOW... and now I'm afraid of losing ALL MY MEDIA considering I have NO ITUNES ON MY LAPTOP!     1, you can't at the moment, though with iOS 5 in the Autumn, from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#photos :
    Even organize your photos in albums — right on your device
    2, by removing it from you synced from and re-syncing. Only photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad (either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view)
    3, the location of the photos that you synced to the iPad should be listed on the iPad's Photos tab when connected to your computer's iTunes.
    4, you can copy the photos from your iPad to your computer : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 . You should also be able to delete them from the iPad as part of the transfer process to your computer, and it's then your choice whether to add them to your sync photo list so as to copy them back to the iPad. Copying them to your computer would allow you to organise them into folders and therefore be able to sync them back into separate albums.
    5, I don't use Dropbox either. There are some third-party browser apps in the iTunes App Store that allow you to download pages so that you can view them when offline e.g. Atomic Web (the whole page is saved within Atomic Web, it doesn't place a photo into the Photos app)
    6, deleting content should help. If you remove an app from your iPad then you also remove the content that it's got on the iPad - so if you then decide to reinstall it back onto the iPad then you will need to manually add back any content that you want in it. None of the Apple built-in apps (including Photos) can be removed from the iPad

    At present I have no power to the Gen 7, so need to get some power to it I think.  I pressed the buttons as you suggested, but nothing is showing up at this point.  Thank you for your response as the more I can rule out before  I take it back the better I think.

    Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
    Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

    Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:

    Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
    Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
    (If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
    Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
    If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • My photoshop is now not acting right.  Can I uninstall then reinstall it?

    I know it is headache to go through same process again.
    Open Preferences folder and move all Lightroom prefernces file to Desktop.
    Make sure that not even single Light room  prference files like com.adobe.lightoom.plist...etcare there inside Preferences folder.
    Then reboot the computer and Sign out from Creative Cloud and Sign in and then try to Launch Ligthroom CC 2015 application , by double clicking on Lightroom cc 2015 option under Apps list in Creative Cloud application"  .
    Still same issue ??
    Remove Lightroom cc application and the reinstall the same from Creative Cloud.
    Then try launching Lightroom cc 2015 from Apps list in CC app.
    Still same issue?
    If it is okay for you , you may try launching from Root user account.

  • InDesign is telling me to uninstall then reinstall the program, how can I safely do that?

    I had 2 copies of InDesign on my macbook pro, so I took the copy that wasn't in my doc and I trashed it just because it was an extra copy.     In Windows 8, you should make sure you can find your iTunes library files, and you may want to backup to a different location. After that, reinstalling should fix the problem.

  • Acrobat Pro App won't uninstall then reinstall

    I have Adobe Creative Cloud and I am unable to uninstall then reinstall Acrobat Pro. When I try, the uninstall seems to last one second, then I get the checked circle saying that the app is up to date. When I try to launch the app, I get Error code 1 and I am told to reinstall the app! Help please! Thanks.

  • I had to uninstall then reinstall Firefox. Have I lost all my bookmarks.

    Some how Firefox was corrupted, which resulted in uninstalling and reinstalling the app. I had a boat load of book marks. Have I lost them all?

    A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

    Try a different cable. And are you connecting directly to your computer or through a USB hub?
