Uninstall update of 10.7

I am currently running 10.6.8 on 2009 iMac 27 inch with 4 GB RAM. I want to update to 10.7. If the update does not go well, can I do a full system restore from Time Machine? I also have  Carbonite backup but they do not normally back up the OS.  I do not want to go to Yosemite at this time due to the overwhelmingly negative comments. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks all

One issue to consider is that Lion is no longer supported by Apple for vital security updates. You would probably want to consider a move to Mountain Lion or Mavericks in lieu of Yosemite, as they have support. Mountain Lion is currently the oldest supported OS X release. Expect it to enjoy support until the next release of OS X and then Mavericks will be the oldest. And on it goes.
Lion can be purchased here in the U.S.: http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
Mountain Lion can be purchased here in the U.S.: http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6377Z/A/os-x-mountain-lion
Unless you have 'purchased' the free Mavericks in the past, you will not be able to download it from the App Store or purchase it from Apple.
So, it would seem that your choice is Lion (unsupported), Mountain Lion (supported until the next OS X release) or stay on Snow Leopard. Assuming your system has a 64-bit EFI and can support Mountain Lion, that would be my choice.
Edited to add: I just noticed that I didn't answer your system restore question. If you didn't like Lion, you would be able to do a full system restore back to Snow Leopard, but likely only if you were to archive your existing Time Machine disk and use a new backup for your Lion system. When I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion, Lion attempted to append itself to the Snow Leopard backup and I ended up losing everything. For me, upgrading to Lion wound up being a one way ticket. It was successful, but there were some nervous hours while I waited to re-create that base backup under Lion.

  • [CS3] Uninstalling updates

    Hi guys,
I installed some updates the other day and... I don't know why something has gone wrong and I can't work anymore cause ps keeps crashing anytime...
so, how can I uninstall the updates and try to reinstall them?
    thanx a lot =)

You cannot uninstall updates. They replace the original files completely. If an automated update failed, download the manual update packages and try again. If that doesn't work, either, then I'm afraid you'll have to run a complete uninstall/ re-install. Don't use the "Repair" function in the installer, though, as it is not working properly as well in CS3.

  • Cannot uninstall, update, or open Adobe Reader 9.3.1

I am running Windows XP 32-bit.  I recently updated to Adobe Reader X and want to uninstall Adobe Reader 9.3.1, but cannot. I have tried uninstalling using Add/Remove Programs, I have tried updating to 9.3.2 by downloading the appropriate update file from adobe.com, and I have tried opening Adobe Reader 9 to ask for updates from the Help menu.  None of these worked, because as soon as I tried to "Remove" Adobe Reader 9 in the first instance, as soon as I tried to open the executable update file in the 2nd instance, and as soon as I clicked on Adobe Reader 9 to open it in the 3rd instance, I got the same message: "This patch package could not be opened.  Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package."
I think this problem may be related to the fact that I recently did a System Restore on my computer because I had a virus that was not being caught by Norton Antivirus.  After the System Restore, I fully updated all my programs and Mozilla plug-ins, which caused Adobe Reader X to download.  Since I no longer need Adobe Reader 9, I'd like to get it off my computer.
The only thread I could find on this issue in this forum was from March 2010, and the user was referred to the Windows Installer Clean-up Utility.  This utility is no longer available from Microsoft, so I couldn't resolve the issue with that method.
Thanks for any suggestions you may have!  I am not especially computer savvy, so detailed instructions are much appreciated.

The Windows Installer Cleanup Utility is still available on 3rd-party download sites, e.g. http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459

  • Issue uninstalling/updating iTunes

Hello everyone. Like many of you, I recieved the notification to update my iTunes to 10.7 when the new iPhone 5 came out. As usual, I would click on Download Now and let it update itself. However, seeing as how I am here, that is not the case. Initially, the update would go along normally, with the small screen popping up to calcuate the space needed and disappearing soon after. Nothing else came up, even after an hour of waiting. Now, I have tried time and time again to update my iTunes, and after getting fed up with it, decided to uninstall the program along with the other Apple programs that I have. I even used Revo Uninstaller to try and remove any unwanted registries (though some still remain after multiple uses), but the installer still doesn't do anything after that small screen disappears. I apologize for having repeated a similar problem in which other people have posted, but I am at my wits end, and would like to see a light at the end of this cruel tunnel, and would appreciate any help given. Thank you for your time.

I would really appreciate any assistance with this issue, as my next alternative would be to just do a complete wipe of my computer. Also, I apologize for the large wall of text.

  • Uninstalling updates

Im somewhat new to macs and was wondering if anyone can tell me how to uninstall an update on macs. On windows it is straight forward and hope the mac is too.

Since your question is Mac OS X specific, you should re-post your issue in the Mac OS X 10.4 forum.

  • How to uninstall update Bridge

    Hi there,
How do I uninstall *just* an update on my mac, not the whole program?
I accidentally updated my Bridge CS6, but it is updated in the wrong language, so I would like to deinstall this latest update. How do I proceed?
    Thanks

Donouwens Bridge CS6 needs to be installed as part of an application which includes Bridge.  I would recommend removing and reinstalling Photoshop CS6 to reinstall Bridge CS6.  Please make sure to utilize the uninstaller located in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder.

I know that this update is the issue because everyone that plays this game were able to uninstall it. Is there anyway to force it?

  • How do we uninstall update 8.0.2 on ipod touch.

We want to uninstall the update 8.o.2, but don't know how. Is this possible. The battery now runs out in minutes.

Downgrading the iOS version is not supported by Apple.
    Have you tried:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Uninstall updates

One of my apps was updated and i wan to just uninstall the latest update, not the whole game! How do i do this?

    You cannot unistall an update.
Do you sync with iTunes and did you sync recently with iTunes before you updated the app? Did you update the app on the iPad itself and have not synced since then?
If you did, then you can delete the newest version of the game from the iPad and then sync the older version back again.
Restoring form a backup will not restore the older version of the app. Apps are not stored in the backup.

  • Can't uninstall/update Can't find iTunes.msi file

Something happened to my itunes. Could have been my daughter's creative genius or any one of a thousand other things....
All I know is (and I don't use iTunes a lot) I can't get iTunes to load. When I click on my desktop icon or try to run it from my Start menu, I get: "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed."
I trid to reinstall and I get this:
"The path 'C:\Documents and Setting\All Users\Application Data\Apple computer\Installer Cache\iTunes7.3.0.54\iTunes.msi' cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in a folder which you can uninstall the product iTunes."
so I am thinking if I can uninstall it, then I can reinstall it and have it work. But I can't uninstall it, even with the remove programs function.
I should add that I am not a computer whiz to any instructions should be very easy to follow. (Assume I am not going to know what you are talking about
    Thanks!

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?
