Uninstall Yosemite?

A few days ago, I upgraded to Yosemite and it has been a disaster.  Here are just a few things I have found that make it a nightmare:
1.  It has slowed down my computer by a factor of ten!  I get the spinning pinwheel from **** all the time!  In Safari while opening pages.  In Word while opening a document.  In iPhoto while editing a photo.  And worst of all, in iMovie while editing a movie.
2.  No more hard drive icon so I can quickly check on my storage (get info).  There simply is no icon for the hard drive anywhere!
3.  The Time Machine backup icon on the top menu bar used to spin when it was backing up.  Now it doesn't move at all so I can't tell if it's working.
4.  When downloading a file, I used to get a new window called "Downloads" it would keep track of the last 20 items I had downloaded.  When in progress, it would indicate how long the download was going to take.  This was very helpful!  Now, it's gone.
5.  The new version of iMovie is terrible!  So many buttons and controls are missing!  I cannot figure out how to do things.  I didn't know it was going to change iMovie, otherwise I wouldn't have done it.  I need iMovie for work and now I'm way behind!
6.  My Time Machine backups used to take about 10 minutes.  Now they take hours!!  What the heck?
There are a couple good things I like about Yosemite, like a top menu bar on my second screen.  It is nice to be able to control two screens with a command bar for each.  I do like the larger fonts and crisper displays of icons.  But these are not worth the changes, and lost functionality and overall speed!!
I have Time Machine and I have backed up everything.  I have my MAC OS X LEOPARD Version 10.5 in it's original box.  Can someone please tell me how to go back to it?

As far as the speed and spinning wheels, that may be something you need to delve into to figure out what's going on. But the general functionality issues that you're looking for are still there...
>2.  No more hard drive icon so I can quickly check on my storage (get info).  There simply is no icon for the hard drive anywhere!
Hard Drive icon should show in Finder window sidebar. If you don't see it, open Finder>Preferences, go to 'Sidebar' tab and check the box for 'Hard disks' under  'Devices'
You can also show on the Desktop by checking box for 'Hard disks' on the General tab in the same window.
>3.  The Time Machine backup icon on the top menu bar used to spin when it was backing up.  Now it doesn't move at all so I can't tell if it's working.
Icon doesn't spin, but it should tell you the last time it backed up, if you're really curious..
>4.  When downloading a file, I used to get a new window called "Downloads" it would keep track of the last 20 items I had downloaded.  When in progress, it would indicate how long the download was going to take.  This was very helpful!  Now, it's gone.
You mean this?
It should show up after you've downloaded a file.. and remain available until you clear the download list.

  • How can I uninstall yosemite and reinstall Loin with out losing all my in formation and programs

How can I uninstall Yosemite and reinstall Loin with out losing all my in formation and programsThis had been the worst os system apple has come out, too many errors
    too many to list.
    a few
Losing all mail. and watching them disappear in front of my eyes and could nothing about it
also when accessing cloud the screen just rolls in when accessing mail, like loading and loading and loading for 1 to 2 minuets.
I did not up grade my Mac Book Pro, and is working fine,
Just my iMac, its act kile avid card and it only happens access iCloud mail.
so I want to and need to go back to Loin

You can't unless you have a current backup of your old Lion system because the first thing you must do is erase the drive. It 's possible to use Target Disk Mode between your iMac and the MBP in order to clone the MBP to the iMac. However, that will still erase everything on the iMac's drive.
Or you could see about getting Yosemite to work correctly. If you have IMAP mail, then your mail should be intact.
Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Download and install the 10.10.1 update.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
    5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Download and install the 10.10.1 update.
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Can I uninstall Yosemite and go back to my old OS?

Can I uninstall Yosemite and go back to my old OS?

It's not a simple uninstall. You'll need to erase the hard drive, install the old OS version, and then restore your data from a backup. It's a time consuming process and it's probably easier to try and troubleshoot whatever issues you're having with Yosemite.

  • Can I uninstall Yosemite and reload my older operating system

can I uninstall Yosemite and reload my older operating system

I tried this method and erased my MC HD and restored my system, but the bad thing is once you install YOSEMITE it overrides your Recovery with yosemite and you lose Maverick. I called Apple support regarding this same issue. I have to take my Mac to apple to have it replaced with a new one that has maverick installed on it.
Yosemite is causing display glitches, wifi slow downs, dock disappears from one screen to the other or completely and cannot get it back.

  • Need to uninstall yosemite asap

In a nutshell, you can't go backwards with Apple operating systems. Do you have a friend who's still using Mavericks or Mountain Lion?

    Hi jblier,
Thanks for the question. Based on what you stated, it seems like you want to install a prior version of OS X. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.

How to Uninstall Yosemite?  System does not allow Erase the HD, nor does it allow re-install of original O/S Disc (10.6.7).  I want Mavericks or even Lion Back.   Thanks.

    Start with reinstalling Snow Leopard:
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. After you finish Setup Assistant will complete the installation after which
you will be running a fresh install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process
by opening Software Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your
             installation current.
    Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 Access the App Store to download Mountain Lion or Yosemite. Mavericks is no longer available since the release of Yosemite. If you purchased Mountain Lion from the App Store, then you can redownload it via your Purchases page in App Store. If not, then you will need to purchase it from Apple;
Purchase a redemption code at the Online Apple Store: OS X Mountain Lion. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. Use the code to redeem a download of Mountain Lion from the App Store. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

My two old white MacBooks run perfect with Snow leopard, but my 2011 17" i7 Macbook Pro is a dead slug with yosimite installed.
Tried the start with C held down, also with option held down.  All it does is beeps at me three times, then again three times.....
I want to remove yosimite and install Snow leopard from dvd as yosimite runs worse than a Windows OS.
Can it be done, what do I need to do please?
Examples of faults,  even with a 1tb solid state drive and 16 gig of ram, it is incredibly slow.  Took four hours to install Logic 8 last night, I still have to reinstall logic 9 upgrade.   On the White MacBooks I got both 8 and 9 installed in under an hour and a half all up.
Beeping on startup means failed RAM.
Slowness is usually caused by incompatible third-party system modifications.

  • How do I uninstall Yosemite please ? Since I upgraded my 2011 MacBook Pro will not boot up

My 2011 MacBook Pro will not boot up following my upgrade to Yosemite. How do I uninstall or downgrade back to the previous version of OS please ?

You can't downgrade or uninstall unless you first erase the drive. Try the following:
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
    Also see:

Choose the version you have installed now:
OS X Yosemite- Reinstall OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Is it possible to uninstall yosemite and reload maverick

is it possible to uninstall the operating system yosemite, and reinstall the maverick operating system

If you were wise you would consider other options just besides getting rid of Leopard and throwing it away. First, you could wait until Apple releases OS 10.5.1, then install and update to it. This might help take care of some problems. You could dual boot OS 10.4.10 and 10.5 as long as you have the OS 10.4 full install Disk and the OS 10.5 full install disk. I personally will wait until at least Christmas time before I install Leopard. New OS's are always full of bugs. On the Microsoft side, I've read where Windows Vista is still having major problems and is taking a long time to become widely used. These problems take time to fix. When Windows XP came out nobody would upgrade to it because of all it's bugs, now Windows XP is considered the standard on PCs. Mac OS 10.4 was also full of bugs at first, but now we talk about how rock solid it is. Simply give Apple time to fix these problems.

  • Can I uninstall yosemite?

the upgrade has slowed thing down, there is a long pause when starting any app. how can I uninstall the upgrade and go back?

If you have a TimeMachine backup of the previous installation, see:OS X Yosemite: Revert to a previous OS X version
If not, the procedure varies a little depending on the system that came installed on your computer.  But all procedures follow the basic routine of erasing the hard drive and then reinstalling the original operating system.
It might be better to try doing some maintenance steps first, open Disk Utility and select your internal storage, usually Macintosh HD, then run Repair Permissions.  That usually returns a very large number of errors the first time, so run it again.  Then restart the Mac.  See how the performance is now.
Also, are you running any anti-virus or cleaning software?  That stuff causes major problems with Yosemite and should be removed.

  • How can I uninstall Yosemite on a USB drive?

I have a 2009 Macbook running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I have found that various websites, especially ones with Flash, keep telling me my software is out of date and I have trouble playing videos. So I thought I should maybe upgrade to Yosemite, but I wanted to try it first. Several websites suggested I could install Yosemite on a 32 Gb USB drive as a triel and so retain my existing OS, switching between the two on startup by pressing the option key.
So I did it, was able to run Yosemite (slowly) from the USB drive, but when I tried to restart using the Option key, the Hard Disk option was labelled "Installer" and selecting it only started the installation process over again.
It appears that the Hard Disk is still intact, but I can't get back to my old OS. If I remove the USB drive before startup, absolutely nothing happens. It seems that the software or firmware that boots up has been reset and I need to know how to set it back again if that is possible.
I'm pretty desperate. I need to get back to Snow leopard and do a few things before I make a final decision on Yosemite. Can anyone help me please?

If you are currently on Yosemite have you gone into System Preferences and clicked the StartUp Disk option, this should give you a list of available disks that
can be booted to. Hopefully this will get you back to SL.

  • Do i have to erase my HD to uninstall Yosemite?3

I just want to get Mavericks back.  Yosemite has way to many problems for me, and I do not use an iPad or iPhone anyway, so what is the use.  I think the format stinks, and is ugly. . .
Do I erase and install a DVD to get an older system, and then upgrade to Maverick.  I have an external backup, that I want to use for the information, but Yosemite does not recognize it. . .
Steve Jobs would be angry with the direction his once great company has taken.  I guess that Ubuntu is the next best step. . .
A little help here would be appreciated. . .

    You must erase the HD.
If you plan to re-install Mavericks, you may not be able to get it from the App Store. I would go to the App Store Purchases tab and see if you can download it again. Then use this program to make a bootable USB.

Do a backup before you do anything.

with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
