Uninstalled apps, preference files still there.

I have uninstalled the app twinkle by tapulous. However I've found out that the uninstalled apps settings are not uninstalled because I tried reinstalling twinkle and the settings are not reset. It still have the previous settings.
Is there a way to delete the settings or restore the whole iPhone settings, not the restore to factory settings?

What's the answer?

  • I update apps but update still there? Help

Sometimes i get this error. Although i update an app that has an available update, after i am finished and updated, when i open the app store the update is still there... Does this go away on its own later on or do i have to do something? I have tried deleting the app and re-installing it but the update is still there
    Thanks

I have the same problem. It seems to be randomly ok when updating from iphone app store if done 1 by 1, but if you try and update on itunes it doesn't work - keeps telling me there is an update. Also, the update all button on the iphone seems to cause problems to.
I have just uninstalled itunes, wiped out directories & registry keys, reinstalled and re synced iphone and still have the same problem grrrrrr!!!!!!!!!! Now I have to setup iphone again.
I have only noticed today, that it doesn't download the new app version. ie: I'm trying to update an app from version 1.71 to 2.0 and it keeps downloading the 1.71 version, so it then tells you straight after that there is an update available. - Not to mention wasting my internet bandwidth as it keeps going in circles!!
At the moment, I cant update ANY apps... The above happens to all my apps waiting for the updated version. Its as if my apple account is programmed to only download the version I have, cause it aint my end!!
This has been happening for months now. Not happy at all. FIX IT APPLE

  • 6120c Gallery disappeared but files still there - ...

Last night I was at a concert (Fantomas/Serj for anyone who's curious ) and filmed for a few minutes on my phone after the camera was full.
Today when I look into my gallery, EVERYTHING is gone - pics, vids, sound clips, music.
When I go into my data manager, everything is still there. I can connect to pc suite and store the new images and videos, but none of them show up in the gallery.
I've tried turning the phone off then on (a few times), removing the memory card, resetting to factory settings with no success.
    Can anyone help me please?

Apple's official advice on duplicates is here: Find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls such as lost ratings and playlist membership, or that sometimes the same file can be represented by multiple entries in the library and that deleting one and recycling the file will break the other.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background, this post for detailed instructions, and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed.)
The most recent version of the script can tidy dead links as long as there is at least one live duplicate to merge stats and playlist membership to and should cope sensibly when the same file has been added via multiple paths.
See also Make a split library portable for some thoughts on best practice when it comes to organizing the library and media files.

  • General problem: Uninstalling Apps, all files

I don't remember right now, of all the stuff I have installed on my Macs, exactly how Apps behave.
First of all, I suspect that some Apps comes with a uninstall facility, maybe in the Installer?
[ One thing I will find a thread for is how I uninstall the Developer stuff folder (all files!) ]
Secondly, I know that Apps nowadays can be uninstalled by dragging the App from the Application folder to the trash, and emptying it.
But Apps in Mac App Store, are they designed so that they do not have to be uninstalled more carefully?
I think of stuff that fills the Library folders, and also other places in the machine, like iPhoto Libraries, that can be moved, swithched between and so forth.
    Thanks!
    /groundliner

You're right - some apps (notably newer Adobe apps) come with an uninstaller. Some major developers, such as Microsoft for Office, don't offer an easy way to uninstall. Some (if not most) Apple apps can be uninstalled simply by dragging the app to the Trash. MOST apps seem to have neither an uninstaller nor are completely removed when trashing.
So what do you do in the latter case? First, get in touch with the developer and ask if there is some method to get rid off the app and its auxiliary files. You can - although you must be careful and realize that all auxiliary files may not be found - use something such as AppCleaner or AppZapper to try to get rid of all of the files. I only recommend these apps for experienced users (and others will, vociferously, disagree with me!).
    Just my 2¢....

  • I made the mistake of installing Freerecorder, now I can't get rid of it. After uninstalling the icon is still there, it's ads still appear. How do I nuke??

I previously installed Ad block plus BTW.
For instance when I log into Yahoo e-mail the first couple of lines are an empty box (thank you, Ad block!) but still has a "ads by Freerecorder" line. Until I figured out how to turn off the "feature" Freerecorder would open a new window almost every time I clicked on a link so both the desired link and an ad would open in separate windows. I uninstalled not only Freerecorder but Firefox a well and re-installed Firefox but *not* Freerecorder but it still happens as if Freerecorder has a cookoo in the Firefox folder. The Freerecorder icon also appears in the upper right, next to the "home" button, if clicked it goes to a page trying to sell me, you guessed it, Freerecorder.
Let me know if it would help to somehow post screen captures.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

  • Solaris 8: link count 0 on files. File still there , and not there.

We often get into the situation that a file gets link count 0.

    Hi,
I too have been contacted by someone on a project team that has seen this very same thing. They however were not able to reproduce it.
Do you have any clues as to what causes this? Can you reproduce it "at will"?

  • All content GONE! How do I fix it!?(Files still there, not showing in iTunes)

So I had an issue where iTunes would not let me add content of any kind to the library. It worked on other user profiles, but not the main one(which is where all of my music is stored). I called AppleCare and the person who helped me made me do some things to the iTunes Library. Long story short all of my content is not showing in iTunes. It is still in my iTunes folder, just not displaying in iTunes. A simple fix would be to drag all the folders into iTunes or import them to the library, but my original issue persists: no content is adding. They suggested that I perform an Archive and Install of OS X in order to fix the issue, but I'm wondering if anyone has any idea how I can fix this issue. If you have any tips, please help!

Did you create an alternate iTunes library when troubleshooting? Try starting iTunes while holding Option and then select the iTunes library with the files in it.
Did you remove a itunes library XML or ITL from the folder? Take a look at Apple's document about re-creating your iTunes library and try importing the XML file again.

I'm searching for an answer to almost the same exact problem, using almost the same exact hardware and software. Has an answer been found?
The files that I'm trying to burn come from eMusic, and they are formatted mp3. Recently, (after the iTunes update to 9.2.3?,) they would not drag and drop from iTunes into Toast. From several different discussions I've tried working around this by dragging to the desktop first then dragging and dropping to Toast, going to Toast from a programmer's homemade help window, " iToons," and today, after talking with Apple support, going directly to Toast from my eMusic folder. Alas, all recordings do not perform like they use to. Sometimes they play and sometimes not. There is one I managed, that is listenable, but sometimes I have to put it in my car stereo over and over again as it gets ejected with an error code, sometimes, finally it takes it... Some of the recordings on other disks I've burned are not clean - they have white-noise sounds creeping in... I use to have none of these problems. One time as I was listening to a CD that managed to play, and it just stopped playing... Is there an answer out there to get back to how it use to be? Thanks for you help.

  • Zeroed out my drive -- why are 2 files still there?

I set my computer to zero out my drive over 7 passes last night. I just checked it and it appears that it worked -- it states that only 73.3 MB of the drive are currently being used by 2 files. What are these 2 files and how can they be there if everything on the drive has been erased?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Launch Terminal (in Applications/Utilities). type the following command (replacing "yourdrivename" with your drive's name - if you have spaces, you will have to escape them with a backslash "\" like: your\ drive\ name ):
    ls -al /Volumes/yourdrivename
You will see that there are two files (. and ..) that are required by Unix for every directory (folder). "." is the current folder, ".." is the next-higher-up folder in the tree.
    Required by Unix.

  • Exclamation mark on large view, but file still there?

    Hi,
I've seen a few other people with this problem, but I seem to have a different variant. I have a new computer, new iPhoto library. For a small number of photos when I double click on a thumbnail it shows a black screen with an exclamation mark. This problem only seems to effect photos from one event which have been rotated (the dates have been adjusted on the photos as the camera had the wrong date).
    - I tried rebuilding the iphoto library as suggested and that didn't fix the problem.
    - When I search for the filename of any of the effected photos I find them on my drive, in the iphoto library. If I try and drag and drop the file onto iPhoto it wont do it, telling me that its already in the library.
    - If I try and edit one of the effected photos they appear at large size on the screen.
    - If I rotate these photos back to the original orientation the problem remains.
Any suggestions as to how to fix this would be appreciated. Its only effecting about half a dozen photos, so a manual method is feasible. However, I don't want to start the iphoto library from scratch as I've just tagged the 8000+ photos and don't want to do that again.

    sellings
Try selecting the affected pics and going Photos -> Revert to Original. Then try rotate them again.

  • How to have multiple preference files for Mail on one computer

I would like to have multiple preference files for Mail on one computer, one copy for each person in the organization. I want everybody to log in as the same user. Is this possible?
    Thanks,
    John Link
    Cube, 450 MHz, 640 MB   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Since the Mail.app preference file (along with all other application preference files for a user account) is stored in that user's Home folder/directory, I don't believe this is possible.

  • Corrupted Mail preferences file

    Dear all,
My com.apple.mail.plist file got corrupted somehow. My Home/Library/Mail folder looks fine though. What do I have to do to restore everything back to normal? Bear that I don't have a preference file backup. I would <never> think a simple, tiny file could ruin all my e-mail capabilities... For one moment it reminded me of my Windows days...
Anyway, I'd appreciate your help in this matter.
    Cheers,
    Leonardo

The Mail.app preference file stores all account information and general Mail.app preferences.
With the Mail.app quit and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail. Copy the Mail folder and place the copy on the Desktop for backup purposes.
Using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist. Delete the com.apple.mail.plist file and empty the Trash.
Note: Moving or deleting the com.apple.mail.plist from the Preferences folder will require re-entering all email account information when re-launching Mail.
The only exception to this is if you have a .Mac account which will be recreated automatically.
Launch Mail and decline any prompt to import mailboxes. After re-entering all email account information the same as before, the Mail.app should rediscover the existing account named folders and mailboxes at Home > Library > Mail.
After confirming all mailboxes were successfully rediscovered, you can delete the copy of the Mail folder from the Desktop.

I have the same issue with Logmein, which I installed a trial, uninstalled with appzapper, which I thought does a good job of untangling the components of apps but for these 2 it doesn't.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thx,

Usually applications like these have their own uninstallers, either build into the installer ( ! ) itself or as a separate uninstaller app. Check the site of the software provider for instructions.
