Uninstalled Boot Camp partition but did not recover full hard drive space

I used Boot Camp Assistant to uninstall my Windows 7 partition, but in the middle of the uninstall we had a power outage. When I restarted the computer, the Boot Camp drive image on my desktop was gone, but when I checked the storage, it only showed 697GB storage, not the full 1TB that should be there. When I checked the Boot Camp Assistant again, the only option it gave me was to download the software or install Windows 7 or later. I probably need to do a system restore (I do have my system backed up with Time Machine on an external drive) but if there's another way to get back that 300GB space, I'd appreciate some guidance.

Yosemite with CoreStorage adds to complications.
Can you post the output of the following Terminal commands. For "sudo" commands, enter your password, and it will not be echoed back to you.
diskutil list
diskutil cs list
sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0
sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

  • Theres a Boot Camp partition, but it's not bootable

Hi, so I made a boot camp partition and then my computer restarted, and opened the windows installer. Me being stupid, I realised that I had forgot to put some drivers onto my USB. So, I went back to OSX (by quitting out of the installer and pressing OPTION while booting up) to get those pesky files.
Then I went into System Preferences to boot of Boot Camp, and Lo Behold! No bootable Bootcamp. It only shows my original hard drive and my Windows CD.
I am using OSX Mavericks and a early 2010 MBP.
    Proof of my partition:
    Proof of no bootable partition:
Note: Same thing happens when I restart my computer while holding OPTION, not bootcamp.

first one setup the partition for bootcamp then one install windows on the partition
did you install windows from dvd or usb stick ?
if not then you will not be able to boot from the bootcamp partition as it would not have an operating system installed on it

  • Boot Camp: Windows stuck on startup when external hard drive is attached

    Hi all,
I have Windows XP installed with Boot Camp. All was working fine (even though I installed Service Pack 3 and THEN the Boot Camp update), but today I received an external hard drive I ordered for use with Time Machine. It's a Western Digital My Book (500GB) connected via Firewire 800. This was working fine in Leopard (of course) but when I restart and go into Windows, the startup process freezes at the Windows XP logo (the animation continues though).
I've spend hours scouring the internet and I understand that the external drive is being mistaken for the boot drive, and Windows being WIndows doesn't think to try my internal hard drive after the external clearly has no boot information on it! I don't appear to be able to change the boot order in BIOS as that apparently isn't available.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I'm just trying to avoid unplugging the hard drive on every restart into Windows.
    Thanks in advance!
    Ed

happens to my firewire 400 drives too (although it didnt used to until SP3 upgrade...). My 2 cents: the fix is not worth it; just unplug it during startup of windows and plug in when it's booted.

  • Some videos not working on 60G (did not update).  Hard drive issue?

    Help! My Ipod hates me
Having big problems with some video files freezing up after anywhere between 30 minutes and some not able to even start. These same files worked fine a few months ago. However some movie files still work fine and all the music files still work.
When this problem happens it seems like the hard drive is trying to read the file because I can feel the ipod slightly vibrating but sometimes the video stops and sound continues and other times the whole file just stops.
    Things I've tried so far:
    1)restored and reset (multiple times)
    2)reversed the update from 1.1 to 1.0
3)tried multiple dvd to ipod programs (cucusoft, videora, super ipod, streamclip)
    4)MUX'ed with YAMB
5)tried different speeds of converting dvd to ipod
6)bought 1 hour video from itunes which works fine
7)screamed at and insulted my ipod multiple times. It didn't work but it sure felt good.
8)these same files seem to work perfectly on a friends brand new 60G ipod.
9)all movies play perfectly on my desktop with quicktime and itunes.
Maybe I'm jumping the gun here but I fear this may be a hard drive vs board issue but thought I would see if anyone else has any other suggestions or similar problems.
Ugh! As I sit here and write this I just reset (not restored) my ipod, and now all the files are gone. CRAP!

  • I was added as AU, but did not receive full history

Hey myFICO, I was added to my GF's BOA Rewards card 2 months ago. She has had perfect payments since the opening of her card in 2009. When it hit my report it only has given me her history of payments since the beginning of 2014. So I'm missing around 5 years of history with that account. Has anyone had this issue before? If so what did you do?

  • Creating and restoring a Boot Camp partition using Paragon

I am trying to restore a clone of the Boot Camp partition that's on my MacBook Air (Snow Leopard) to My MacBook Pro (Lion).
I was told I could do this without requiring the Windows 7 installation disk by using Paragon Hard Disk Manager.
I downloaded the Paragon Hard Disk Manager on the MacBook Air in the Windows partition and followed the steps the Wizard told me. I chose back up. I successfully backed up the Boot Camp partition but noticed that the amount of disk space on the back up external drive was about 8GB, but the amount used up by Boot Camp was 16 GB.
When I went into the new computer and tried to create a Boot Camp partition, I am not able to do this without installing Windows software.
When I plugged in the external drive which had the back up on it, it just has some files and no Wizard I can use to restore the Windows partition.
So I think I've done it wrongly.
When I first started the wizard, there was a choice of making an image. I did choose this initially and a message came up and said I had done this but there was nothing else - no information about where this image was and what I should do with it. So I chose "Back up" and that is where I am.
Even if I do manage to create an image that contains everything, the operating system and the files, how can I restore that to the newly created Boot Camp partition on the other computer if in order to create the Boot Camp partition I need to install a Windows 7 disk?
It's not that I don't have a valid Windows 7 installation disk, I do but I have to call telephone support to install it because the activation is tied to the first laptop which has issues and needs to be repaired and that's why I am doing the migration of the data. And it's inconvenient to do the telephone thing because it's after hours now and I want to get the clone of the Windows partition before I send off the computer for repairs which I am supposed to do tomorrow morning.
Plus, I am not sure by using the Windows 7 installation disk and migration of data method that I will have the partition looking exactly the same as before, and that's very important for me because I do internet banking with a foreign bank and it took ages for them to set up the internet banking on my computer, and I am worried that internet banking won't work if I do not have an exact clone of the Windows partition.
I can go back again and try making an image disk but I still have the problem of using the Paragon program which is a Windows program on the Mac operating system, which I have to use when I am creating the Windows partition. Is there other software from Paragon that I am supposed to get?

Paragon didn't work for me and their support is quite lousy. I think I just threw $50 away.
I didn't need another activation key to install Windows 7 on the second computer (MBP). The boot camp installation went smoothly. Once in Windows, I downloaded the software again, Paragon Hard Disk Manager, and then chose "restore". It didn't recognize the archive I had made on the external hard drive no matter what I did. I had to give up after a few tries.
So I went to the Paragon website to look for answers in the support section.
They do not respond to emailed support questions for up to three days after you send in the question even if you are a new customer.
I am tempted to ask for a refund because they have false advertising claiming that their product works when it doesn't.
The steps are not that hard to follow if you use their Wizard and the Wizard told me that I had done everything right and that I had created an archive and I named it and everything.
When I went to restore it, nothing. I couldn't even eject the volume. Very strange.
Their FAQ on Support site is unhelpful and full of technical terminology. Nothing pertains to my problem.
I really don't want the headache. Besides if all I wanted was to do a backup I could have used the free back up and restore utility in Windows 7 which is meant to be excellent.
Another Apple Support Discussion member  said they had a similar problem, a problem with the archives, and that even after working with Paragon for seven months, it was still not resolved.
After a certain period of time after you've bought the product, you have to pay $50 to get support. It's not worth the bother.
It's a German company and German companies in general are not big into service. I can tell that this is true with this company.
So having been burned, I really do not want to keep going down this path. I really just want my money back.

  • Boot Camp partition created but W7 did not install?

On a late 2009 MB running Lion 10.7.2 with 2.26 Intel Core Duo I used Boot Camp to partition the drive and tried to install Windows 7 Enterprise w/SP1 (x64 and x86).  The computer restarted in Lion and I can see the Boot Camp partition but I do not think W7 installed.  When I restart and hold the option key there are only the MB and Restore drives available.  Can I install W7 Enterprise?  If so, any suggestions on how to proceed?
    I found this:
These Macs can use 64-bit editions of Windows Vista and Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional, or Windows 7 Ultimate:
MacBook (13-inch, Late 2009) and later
But I have never seen W7 Enterprise listed on either a compatible or incompatible list.
    Thanks in advance,
    Kyle

    Thanks Hatter,
Actually figured it out and got it installed last night.  Using Explorer now.  What I ended up doing was inserting the W7 disk while in Mac.  Then restarted the computer.  At the chime I held the option key until MAC and Restore and W7 disk appeared.  I selected W7 and Enter.  It installed on the partition as intended.
I'm not sure why the Windows Installer didn't do this automatically?  And, everytime the INSTALL rebooted the machine I had to hold the Option key to drive it to restart in Windows but that was it.  And, when asked, I selected BootCamp partition, Format, and installed the x64 (not x86).
When the Windows Install completed I made a few tweaks in preferences then inserted the driver disk I burned during the Boot Camp partitioning process.  There was an executable on it that I OKed and all my drivers were installed.  Video, mouse, wifi...everything works like a champ.
I partitioned out 50GB because I wasn't sure.  That's at least 10 and maybe 20GB more than needed.  I don't intend to store much on this partition, just need it for access to some work sites and to try to teach myself C# (we'll see how that goes, the last programming I did was in Turbo Paschal).
I still haven't been asked for product keys.  I assume that is coming after some period of time.
    Thanks for the reply.

  • Recover Deleted Boot Camp Partition

    Hello,
A week ago I tried to delete Ubuntu from my Windows 8 Boot Camp partition on my MacBook. However, after the process I couldn't boot Mavericks anymore. When I finally got Mavericks to boot, my Windows partition became unbootable. After running the repair disk, I accidentally ran the "clean" command using Diskpart and COMPLETELY wiped my computer of everything - even my Mac OS X partition. The only way I could get my computer to become usable again was to add a partition using the Internet Recovery Disk Utility tools (there were 0 partitions) and fresh-install Lion.
However, I had all of my important files and apps on my Windows partition and my last backup of it (using Winclone) was outdated. I am not very familiar with this sort of situation, so I was hoping for some help. Currently, I have not attempted to add another Boot Camp partition, but I'm not sure if adding the Lion partition (to make my Mac usable) would make the Windows partition unrecoverable. Also, should I update to Mavericks and then take further action?
I would sincerely appreciate it if I could receive some assistance.
    MacBook Pro 13-inch, Late 2011
Processor  2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory  4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5

    Sorry for the late reply!
I've found the NTFS partition with the right size capacity, 136 GB. However, when I press "p" to list files, the only directory folders that show up are .Trashes and System Volume Information. The partition also appears to be resized (it may have accidentally happened?) because its size is shown as 146 GB/136 GB.
How would I restore the NTFS partition so that I could fix it with a utility (because I think it's been accidentally resized)? As I'd said above, I deleted my Mac partition too and I had to install a new Lion partition. However, this new Lion partition takes up all of the partition space because there is currently only one, so would I have to re-partition it before I can restore the Windows partition?
    Thanks again!

  • Can you create a boot Camp partition on a Fusion Disk?

Can I install a BootCamp partition on a fusion disc?
Can I install a BootCamp partition (Wndows 7) on a 1 TB on which OSX mac Yosemite or Mavericks has been installed first? I have a 2012 MacBook Pro, that already has a 400 GB Boot Camp partition, but I am considering replacing it with a fusion disc or an SSD since I shall have to install a windows compatible medical dictation application that could use a speedier disc. Will Mac OS and Windows interfere with each other on the SSDpart of a large fusion disc ( 1 TB) if I switch back and forth from rebooting on Mac OS , then on Windows and vice-versa? Does the SSD part of the fusion disc get confused, and will the fusion disc tolerate the installation pf a Boot Camp partition in the first place, or just give a stretch of plain 5400 RPM disc without the SSD part ?Can I

    1. On single-disk Macs, you can use an SSHD (as a single physical disk), but not an SSD/HDD. There is a no single physical unit which is a Fusion drive. A Fusion drive consists of a physical SSD and a physical HDD. MBPs on which the Optibay has an SSD/HDD and main bay with SSD/HDD will support a Fusion (aka CoreStorage volume). Yosemite supports a Fusion drive, which has an internal SSD and and external HDD (the reverse makes no sense, but is possible).
    2. On newer Macs, with 1TB PCIe flash, you have an SSD as your whole drive.
    3. The two environments, OS X and Windows are self-contained,  on separate partitions. The underlying hardware is common.
    4. On a Mini, which supports two drives, I have a 256g SSD/1TB HDD, in a DIY Fusion drive, with Windows on the SSD part. Bootcamp Assistant does not support this, but third-party tools can be used. The other option is to install OS X and Windows on a SSD, and later add an HDD and include into a CS volume. This is what I would recommend for you.
    5. The 13-in 2012 MBP will allow you use a USB installer, without the need for an Optical drive, so it is possible to replace the Optibay with an HDD, create a Fusion drive. If BCA is used, it will put Windows on the HDD on this specific machine if the Fusion drive is created first.
