Uninstalled iTunes, but Apple Software Update keeps showing it

I uninstalled iTunes long ago, but every time Apple Software Update pops up, it always says there is an iTunes update.  Does that mean my iTunes did not properly uninstall?

No, it means Apple has released a new version of iTunes. Run Apple Software Update, go to Edit > Preferences and change the schedule to Never, or uninstall Apple Software Update if you have no need for it.

Some online resellers still have Snow Leopard in stock, but their prices are ridiculously high (Amazon.com is one). So your best bet is to call Apple; they will sell it for about $20 US as long as they still have stock.

The solution is to delete /Library/Printers/hp/Frameworks/HPSmartX.framework and re-install the HP package once.

Please find a moment to tell us more about your machine, the model identifier, the OS version, and the total amount of RAM you have.  It also helps to know where you are,  nothing specific, just the country.
All of this needs to be shown for us to answer questions.    Remember, different OS's and devices  often require different answers for the same question.
This current question is unanswerable except by blind guesswork.

Try downloading and installing the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
Open it by going to Start > All Programs > Windows Instalelr Clean Up
Select Apple Software Update in its list and click Remove. That should take care of it for you. You can use this for any other apps you are having trouble uninstalling as well.

  • Unable to uninstall QuickTime and Apple Software Update

    HELP US
This is really screwed up. I got the notice to update to 10, ran the update, threw an error about looking for a file, quicktime.msi. Nowhere on my machine. I followed the troubleshooting tips. I am now unable to uninstall Quick Time, still looking for the quicktime.msi. Unable to uninstall the Apple Software Update, looks for applesoftware.msi. I spent 3 months moving my entire music directory to itunes, now I cannot update/add music to my wifes ipod, or my mother in laws ipod, both 8 gig and now I am not sure if I want to get the 32 gig ipod touch. When I try and download version 10, once again it looks for quicktime.msi, cannot find it, fails to install quicktime and of course itunes does noT install. Now what? anybody got a copy of the two .msi's?
Is there anyone out there from apple to help us?

Unfortunately, these sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any *Apple Software Update* and QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly this time?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • Apple Software Update says I'm up-to-date but I'm not.

Over the summer I downloaded a beta of an iTunes program for Mac. Eventually that program expired so I needed to download the real iTunes. I did, and it was fine up until about a week ago. I was told that I needed to update my iTunes. I said, yes, Download the new iTunes but Apple Software Update says i'm up to date! I think it's because I don't have my original iTunes anymore? How can I make it so that it recogznies my application again? Also, my screensaver for iTunes Album Art claims it can't find my library now? What should I do?

"Download the new iTunes but Apple Software Update says i'm up to date!"
    And?
You downloaded the newest iTunes so you are up to date.

  • Apple Software update says install icloud 4.01, but it is already installed

Dell XPS 8300 (i7, 16 GM ram, 1.5TB HD) running windows 7 fully updated,
Latest version of all software installed with all updates.
icloud 4.01 is already installed and functions, yet apple software update continues to show the update still required.
Reinstall and ASU still shows update required.
    Reinstall & reboot, same result.
Uninstall, reinstall & reboot, same result.
What causes this erroneous loop and how do I fix it?

Apple Software Update keeps asking me to install iCloud for Windows 4.0.2 but it's already installed and working fine.

  • ITunes won't open ; Apple software update error

When I double click iTunes, the computer thinks briefly (hourglass) then does nothing.  iTunes won't load.
    QuickTime Player opens fine.
But Apple Software Update now gives me a strange error message.
Anybody know how to interpret it?  Might it be linked to my iTunes not loading?

I'm having similar issues on PC Windows Ultimate 7 32bit.  Husband tells me iTunes updated last night on both his and my laptops (same OS), without asking for confirmation, which I thought was unusual.  Tried opening iTunes various times today and no response.  Restarted and still no improvement.
Tried repairing and uninstalling iTunes, very slow and glitchy but eventually seemed to have got rid of the software. Downloaded most recent installer link from Apple website and attempted reinstall, but it didn't get past the empty-barred status window.
Aborted and found an old installer from earlier back-up - version 10.2 something.  Install appeared to run smoothly but I still can't actually open iTunes.
Any help appreciated as we now have two laptops that won't shut down properly (seems they think iTunes is still running, even though we can't access it or close it in Task Manager), 2 iPhone 4s and an iPad that we can't use properly!

  • Apple Software Update hangs on Windows 7.

Even after uninstalling iTunes & Apple Software Update, downloading and installing the latest iTunes, still Apple Software Update hangs, see pic:
There is no freeze, but the spinning icon keeps on spinning forever unless the process is killed ('stop' doesn't work).

  • The file 'C:\Users\netrgm\AppData\Local\Apple\Apple Software Update\iTunes64.msi' is not a valid installation package

I am currently at iTunes version 10.5.1.42. It is telling me there is an update. It downloads and trys to install version 10.5.2 but i keep getting this error message:
The file 'C:\Users\netrgm\AppData\Local\Apple\Apple Software Update\iTunes64.msi' is not a valid installation package for the product iTunes.
Try to find the installation package 'iTunes64.msi' in a folder from which you can install iTunes.
The file is in the directory that is looking in, but it doesnt seem to think it is valid. I have tried several times over the last week or 2.

    Try the following steps:
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Follow the instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components
    3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch

  • How do I get Windows "Apple Software Update" tool point to my local server?

I have a Mac OS X Server, with Apple Software Update server running.
I also have Windows machines, with Safari, iTunes, and Apple Software Update, of course.
I would like the Windows version of Apple Software Update to point to my local ASU server. There isn't a preference for that, but there should be a registry entry, I would think.
Is this possible, if so how?
    Thanks,
    -Dan.

I can't accept this. According to Apple (http://images.apple.com/server/macosx/docs/L355781BSoftwrUdtTB.pdf),
"Mac OS X Server also supports hosting Apple updates for software running in Boot Camp, such as iTunes and QuickTime for Windows."
I have already figured out that you can set a registry value that will make Apple Software Update for Windows talk to a different server to find updates, I just don't know how to get Software Update Server to cache the updates for Windows software.
