Uninstalled snow leopard and went back to leopard.  happy again!!!!!

battery life is much better. macbook not getting hot and fan doesnt come on anymore. no more spinning wheel.
dont think i will be updating to snow leopard in a while

I had a MBP and iMac running Leopard and after upgrading to SL I too am have a litany of problems (it's not in my imagination and I'm not interested in trying a bunch of different things to try to fix them; doing so may only create more problems as new updates come out to fix those... then I have to potentially unfix my fixes to let Apple's fix fix things, get it?) and I would like to go back to Leopard.
I have Time Machine backups for both systems (MBP on 10.6 and iMac on 10.6.1) from BEFORE the upgrade to SL. I have backups on the TMs AFTER the upgrade to SL. I have no other backups (no bootable images.)
So, my actual question is: has anyone been in a similar position and successfully gone back to Leopard AND restored the TM backup to get them (at least from a user-data perspective) back to a current state?
I know I can't completely restore a post-upgrade backup (that would bring me back to SL), but I would like to go back to Leopard and get back all user data (email, itunes, iphoto, browser settings/bookmarks, etc.)
Has anyone actually done this and can recommend a path of least resistance to get there?
My wife, who was just about sold on going all-out Mac is now considering going back to WinXP and this is screwing with my grand all-Mac strategy... (I was very happy with the stability and trouble-free nature of OS X... not now)

Sorry to hear that, Snow Leopard runs as fast or faster than either Tiger and Leopard did on my Jan 2006 Early Intel iMac on 2GB of RAM?
Before you blame Snow Leopard, run the Extended Apple Hardware Test and check the SMART status of your Hard Drive to make sure that you do not have another problem.

Any advice on how to uninstall Snow Leopard and reinstall Leopard. My Epson 3800 Printer just wont work with Snow Leopard. Thanks

    Hello Anthony:
There is no "uninstall." If you have a backup (hopefully you do) made before you moved to OS X 10.6, restore that.
If you do not, this article gives you the options:

  • How do I uninstall Snow Leopard?

Since I installed Snow Leopard (upgraded from Leopard), I have had problems accessing documents and having documents display correctly.  The software these are in are old versions (CS2 and Exel 2004).  I need these documents and want to go back to Leopard.  Do I simply install Leopard from the CD?  Will that override Snow Leopard?

You would need to do an Erase and Install in order to "uninstall" Snow Leopard. However I think you should troubleshoot why your apps do not run or make sure they are up-to-date. Both are extremely old (pushing 10 years) and could probably use some updating. Snow Leopard is an extremely sound version of OS X so if you are having issues running some specific applicaitons I would recommend troubleshooting why those apps are having troubles.
For example with MS Office, version 2011 has been available for almost 2 years! You will need to buy it but you can find it on Amazon for about $90. Regarding your Adobe Applications, there are also much more up-to-date versions.
While upgrading can be some work, I have found through experience that not updating eventually becomes extremely painful. This is because at some point you will need to upgrade your computer and your old apps will not run due to simple incompatibility so it becomes very expensive to upgrade them all at one time.  It is wise to upgrade one at a time as finances allow.

  • Delete or uninstall snow leopard

how to delete or uninstall snow leopard

I too would like to uninstall Snow Leopard.    The only instructions I can find involve erasing and re-formatting the disc.  I do not want to do that.
I have done a dual-boot installation of Lion and SL on a new SSD (I have an old Mac Pro and cannot go newer than Lion).    My old HD is now just for user accounts.   But it still has SL on it, and I don't need or want it to be there.   So that's why I want to un-install without erasing the disc (and the user accounts that are there).    I suppose I could just delete the toplevel System, Applications, and Library folders - but that seems weird.   Or just copy the user accounts to backup, erase the disc, and copy the user accounts back - but that's kinds scary.
    Thanks.

  • How to uninstall Snow Leopard? major font problems in iWork, iLife

All iWork and iLife apps have shocking font problems... so much so that I need to uninstall Snow Leopard and wait for Apple to sort it out. Does anyone know the best way? And how is it possible that these problems are occurring with Apple's inhouse software? Other stuff seems to be working OK so far for the most part. For a bit more detail on my problems, including sample images:
    http://bit.ly/309G0o

Snow lizard cost me $27.000.00 in unusable fonts. We installed snow lizards (what I'm calling it now) and lost 934 fonts. Say 40 were bad fonts and 896 were type 1 postscript. When I explained to the tech person how big this was to the print community, he had no clue. - I'm still waiting to hear back. I have a case number but now I read from another post they knew Snow Lizard would do this. At 30.00 per font that is almost $27,000 to replace what they thought wasn't important. But in the print world of design this is huge. Every layout and ad that needs an update - which take a few minutes is a whole rework. They have no clue what business a mac computer is in or they don't see us as important.
I did find if I load those fonts or the font missing into the InDesign font folder I can get the old ad to make it to pdf. But photoshop and illustrator, I'm screwed. And if I didn't outline the type in illustrator - it's gone. I asked the tech guy if I can go back, and undo this slimy lizard and he said probably not if we do backups. We do backups every hour - this is the print business. I feel forsaken. I've been with apple for so many years.

  • How do I uninstall snow leopard? please help

Hey everyone, I am having a lot of troubles with snow leopard and since its not really a BIG difference between leopard, i decided to go back to leopard, so ok.
I got my 17 inch mac book pro, it came with leopard, and with the snow leopard installation cd, and i installed it, now, my question is, how do i uninstall snow leopard without leaving any trace??
    please help, its really urgent
I want to go back to leopard

To do the most in terms of leaving no trace, you will need to do an erase and install. Start from your Leopard DVD by holding down c when starting up. Next, when able, choose your language and stop. Then, using the menus at the top, select Disk Utility; check to see that your volume's partition is GUID; and make it GUID if necessary. Then, erase your drive. Next, quit Disk Utility and continue the install. After the install is complete, insert your Leopard applications disk and install the programs you want. Now, you are done except for restoring you data, apps, and settings using whatever media are available to you.
As implied, you need to have a plan to get your data and apps back especially. In this regard, it may be less important for you to get your users and settings back.
If you are not prepared backup-wise, then you can use your Leopard DVD, again by starting up to it, to do an archive and install. Since you want no trace of Snow Leopard, I would not choose the option of preserving user and network settings. After doing an the archive and install, your archives will be in the Previsous Systems folder. [See posts three and five on this thread|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2168159&tstart=25] to get more info on archiving and installing and retrieving things you may want afterward.

    Hi,
[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/xmarks-sync/?src=search Xmarks] is a bookmarks/history/tabs backup/sync utility. It is not a feature of Firefox. It is an extension which had to be manually added or perhaps could have come with another extension.
If you have registered with the service you have to enter the username and password to log in to the service. Otherwise try pressing the '''Esc''' key on the keyboard and after Firefox opens, go to '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Add-ons''', click Extensions on the left and look for Xmarks and '''Disable''' to disable it or '''Remove''' to uninstall it. If that doesn't work, start Firefox in [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe%20Mode Safe Mode.] In the first screen choose '''Disable all add-ons''' and '''Make Changes and Restart''' and repeat the above procedure, but this time, re-enable all the needed extensions except Xmarks. You may also have to re-enable the plugins after clicking '''Plugins''' on the left).

I am using Lightroom 5 and am hapy about it, but recently I hav encountered a problem when trying to edit an image in another program, i.e. Elements. I used the clone tool, saved the result and went back to Lightroom to open the image there. I did find a second copy, but this is identic with the one I already had in Lightroom, and I can see noe result of the clone process.

At the moment I would say it is uncertain whether Acrobat is completely ignoring the change, or whether the changes you are making aren't affecting the ink density. I have a suggestion for a test you could make to see which is the case.
When editing in Photoshop just add a box or mark on the image, for your tests.
    - If this box does not appear in Acrobat, you know Acrobat is not seeing the edit
    - If this box does appear in Acrobat, you know the problem is that your tool for changing ink densities is not taking effect.

  • Can I uninstall an update and go back to older the version ?

hi i have a macbook pro intel and i am using Mac osx 10.5.8, now i have a apple wireless keyboard, recently i just installed the "alluminium keyboard update 2" after which my keypad has stopped responding, i request is some one can offer a help ..... i just want to uninstall this update and go back to the older version .....

    Hi,
One simple way would be to completely uninstall your keyboard drivers, updated that they are, and reinstall from scratch, then deny the unwanted updates the right to install.
Another way is to get details about the culprit by using Terminal and typing the following commands:
    grep swupd /etc/swupd/com.apple.server.swupdate.plist > ~/Desktop/update_list.txt
(This will get you a list of software updates you've installed on you Mac, in text format, directly on your Desktop)
    Then:
    sudo rm -rf /usr/share/swupd/html/xxx-xxxx/
(Where "xxx-xxxx" stands for the actual update number you want to delete)
You'll have to reboot your Mac, and hope that the rollback that will ensue will take place without a glitch. You may find your keyboard unresponsive at first, time for the system to fetch the old driver back from it was stored.

I'm sorry, but Apple does not provide a downgrade path for iOS. Because downgrading is unsupported by Apple we cannot discuss it on these forums.

Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything... and you must continue with the Recovery...

Make sure you have the Current Version of iTunes Installed on your computer
    iTunes free download from www.itunes.com/download
    Then See Here  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
You may need to try this More than Once...  Be sure to Follow ALL the Steps...
Take your time... Pay particular attention to Steps 3 and 4.
Some users have reported as many as 8 or 9 attempts were necessary before success.
After you have Recovered your Device...
Re-Sync your Content or Restore from the most recent Backup...
    Restore from Backup  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
    If the issue persists...
Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step...
Be sure to make an appointment first...

  • Can I uninstall version 9 and put back version 8 ?

I upgraded to version 9 of itunes but I don't like it, I liked the old show by genre on home page instead of the new itunes peddling particular artist and albums. Can I uninstall version 9 and put back version 8 ? does this matter to my iphone ?

You can go back to version 8, but it isn't easy. iTunes 9 has already upgraded your library and you'll have to find your backup library to use with iTunes 8.
I have found that the iTunes 9 store interface offers some advantages, but it takes some exploring to find everything. You can use the down arrows that appear as you mouse over each category at the top of the iTunes store home page to display whatever you like. For example, display a page of only music in a particular genre:
Here is a tutorial in using the iTunes 9 store: http://www.apple.com/itunes/how-to/#video-explore
