Uninstalling Bootcamp

Hi there,
I have installed bootcamp, but as I ran into some trouble, such as suddenly not being able to access bootcamp, with a message saying "no bootable disk" and after using rEFit to try to solve the problem by syncing the partitions (as I read that it could help on a Blog), I am now decided I want to remove my existing Bootcamp and reinstall again later, when this one is fully uninstalled.
My problem is that as I go to Bootcamp Assistant, It doesn't display the option to "Remove" de already installed bootcamp. It simply doens't show any signs of that partition.
If I remove (delete) the BOOTCAMP partition, are the files related to that windows bootcamp instalation all gone? Or should I try another way to uninstall this bootcamp setting?
Thanks anyway

What if I simply remove the BOOTCAMP partition via the Disk Utility?
You will end up reformatting the entire disk again, do it properly, disk utility is not the way. Frankly (as Bob says) it is probaby too late already.

  • I uninstalled bootcamp but when my MacBook Pro starts up, I still have to press "alt/option" when the screen goes grey. Otherwise, a black windows screen pops up. What am I doing wrong?

At one point in time, I believe I had attempted to install bootcamp on my MacBook Pro. My university support center said that I had to press "alt/option" when starting up everytime, otherwise it would be a black windows screen and I had no idea where to go from there. (So I never was able to fully utilize the Bootcamp application. Unfortunately, even after I uninstalled bootcamp, this is still happening. How do I fix this? Thank you.

You should have asked us and looked at 10 posts a week -- same as yours.
OS X: System Preferences: Startup Disk control panel
    Set and done!
x = Mac OS X on startup also
And no to needing to hit Option every time. Obviously they never actually booted and used Mac.
All it was is the startup parameter was saved and still set to look for a partition that does not exist and got lost.
ZAP PRAM is also helpful but you would still use Startup Disk.
About This Mac.... More... will also take you to control panels (why System Prefs if they are control panels? to be different?) as well as S.P. from the Dock

  • How can I uninstall Bootcamp and Recover the partition for the Mac HD

How can I uninstall Bootcamp and recover the partition for the IMac HD?

Boot into OSX.  Go back into the Bootcamp utility in the Utilities folder and re-run it.  It will give you the option to remove the Windows partition and make the OSX partition fill the whole drive again.  OSX will NOT be lost in the process.  No re-installing necessary.  Only takes a few minutes or less to complete.

  • How do I uninstall Bootcamp? Will I mess it up if I do so?

I had to install Bootcamp so I could run a required, Windows-based program for my school.  Now they (finally!) have a secure browser for Mac and I'd like to uninstall Bootcamp so I can have the disk space back.  I've heard that it's difficult/not great to uninstall it and that I risk losing all my data by doing so.
Anyone have any experience doing this?  Suggestions?
    Thanks!

In addition to the above, back up your data first, and if the computer was set to boot into Windows by default, change the setting in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.

Technically there is no need to uninstall boot camp. All you need to do is remove the boot camp partition.

    Hi,
I'm not sure what you mean by "Airport Extreme" - if by that you mean 802.11n then
you'll be looking at either a usb dongle (not sure if there are any with mac drivers out yet) or a wireless bridge.
That may be your best bet since OS X will just think you're using the ethernet socket (no drivers required).
I.e. there is no software update that will give you 802.11n as you G4 has a hardware limit of 802.11b/g.

  • Uninstalled Bootcamp left with Macintosh HD and Free Space

Uninstalled Bootcamp and left with this! Anyone know how to fix without erasing and backing up Thanks!

I agree with the above comment.
Also, I think you can't change a partition that's at the beginning. The steps to rearrange the partition without reinstalling will be time consuming than backing up and reinstalling. But if you want to try it (highly recommend backing up the data first)
format the free space as it's partitioned (partition 1)
clone the data to the new partition (partition 1) created in step 1 (you can use carboncopycloner to clone)
after confirming the data is fully cloned to partition 1, format and merge the remaining partition
I've done it before multiple times with success, but always backup your data if you are unsure.

  • Uninstall BootCamp gain back partition?

If I uninstall BootCamp, will I gain the partition back?
Do I first have to uninstall Windows before I uninstall BootCamp?
    Thank you!

There really isn't such a thing as "uninstalling" Windows. If you want the volume back then go into Boot Camp in OS X and "Restore" the volume. That will remove the Boot Camp partition. Also, Uninstalling Boot Camp will have no affect affect on the partition. Remember Boot Camp is not creating a virtualization of Windows.

  • Please Help: How to uninstall Bootcamp 2.0 so I can reinstall it?

    Hi,
OK. So the Bootcamp 2.1 update is not working for me. My last resort is to uninstall Bootcamp 2.0 and reinstall it from the Leopard disks. Some people have said that they have done that and were then able to install Bootcamp 2.1.
So how do I uninstall Bootcamp 2.0? Do I do that from the Windows side or Mac OS X side? I am thinking I need to do that from the Mac OS X side because all there is with Windows is Boot Camp Services. But I want to make sure.
Also, if I do uninstall, will I lose my current Windows Vista 32-bit partition?
    Thanks.

I tried that. It removes the Boot Camp tool from the system tray, but it does not return XP to the state it was in before the Boot Camp install. Video, sound, network, and other drivers installed by Boot Camp are still working. At least that was my experience.

  • Unable to boot into OS X 10.6 after uninstalling Bootcamp

I tried a number of times to use bootcamp on my Intel core-duo Imac with OS X 10.6. I had uninstalled and reinstalled bootcamp from the start. Windows XP2 would start-up but then go to a black screen then reboot into the disk check page then start all over again. So I removed boot camp. After I went through the process of undoing the partition the last time I now have to hold down the option key to get the MAC disk to come up, then click on that to go into the OS. It does not show the previous windows partition since I removed it. Something must have been written to the boot sequence which prevents the restart or shut down and restart, to come up properly. I get a black screen with a very fast curser in the upper left corner of the screen. Sometimes it says there is no "system drive" available in white letters near the curser. How do I get the boot sequence to recognize my drive? I don't know to much about how the system works, though I have had this IMAC for about 4 years. Is there a command string and instruction somewhere for fixing this. Any help would be appreciated. I did not use any third party partitioning software. Thank you.

OK, I think I know what happened but don't understand why. When I was trying to use bootcamp. I had set my default drive to the Windows drive, so I didn't have to hold down the option key to go back in and try working on the Windows problem. When I blew it out of there through the disk utility, I never went back and checked it. So it may have been still looking for that drive. When I opened the preferences window as you suggested the only drive that was highlighted was the OS X 10.6 drive. It must of jumped to that when I opened it. There is no windows drive in there but maybe I needed to open that preferences window for the system to correct itself. I didn't click on it since it was already there. Now it does go into the OS X drive when I power it up. So thanks! Appreciate that.

  • HOW TO UNINSTALL BOOTCAMP PARITION

    Hello all,
    In a crisis here.
    I made a mistake here.
Have heard you can get Vista on laptops (please not scolding I know it was risky) so I downloaded a copy of it from Microsoft's website.
Downloaded the .ISO and burned it to a disc (I HAVE THE RIGHTS TO DO SO). I was attempting on my Black MacBook.
Downloaded the Bootcamp setup utitlty and installed it. I opened the utility and saw there was two options, either to create a drivers CD or continue without. At first, I continued without and decided to see. I partitioned my hard drive (Windows 10GB).
Apple says to uninstall you have to boot in OS X, open the utility and select "Remove a Windows parition", I did this, but since Wndows was not fully installed that option was not there. Now I have 10GB gone on my hard drive that I really need right now.
I feel like an idiot. Please help me.
I went into Startup Disk in System Prefs and there was no Windows disk there. I don't know what to do, as I am very new to this procedure.
What can I do? I surely don't want to reinstall the OS X system. I have a trip tomorrow and I would love to have it off before then.
    Thanks

  • How to uninstall bootcamp partition if the assistant only gives me the option to install bootcamp?

I am trying to uninstall my Bootcamp partition but when I open bootcamp assistant it only gives me the option to install a bootcamp partition.
    Thanks

Either use Paragon's CampTuneX to resize it or use Boot Camp Assistant to remove the partition and restore the drive to one partition. Then create a new, larger Boot Camp partition. This will remove/delete/erase your Windows system.

  • Uninstalled Bootcamp now am missing about 400GB of HD space

This morning at work I restarted my computer only to find that when I tried to run Fusion2 my bootcamp partition couldn't open. As I had just backed up all the windows files and the warning (from memory) required me to actually run windows to fix it I decided to stuff it all and delete that partition and just recreate it (I wanted to allocate more HD space to the windows partition anyway). In my early morning frame of mind thought the best solution was to go through disk utility and selecting that partitioned drive used the erase function. After having a cup of coffee I realised what a retard I was and when to Bootcamp assist to remove what remained of the partition. But when I opened it it would not let me access the 'Remove Partition' section.
My solution to this was to insert the Install OS disc, and restart the computer. There I chose to reinstall and create a previous systems folder. This installed fine so I went to Bootcamp assist and asked it to revert back to a single Mac volume and removed what remained of that partition. I then preceded to recreate a windows partition where I installed the drives and everything worked fine.
Returning to the Mac side of my computer I tried to launch Fusion 2 and get it to load the new partition but the same problem existed. So I again deleted the partition planing to use the Windows Easy Install option on Fusion 2 instead. It was then that I noticed that my iMac only contained 595.85GB (Capacity) of HD space. This iMac was only bought this year and originally had 1TB of HD space.
I have given you all this information because I am sure that something that I have done relates to this problem (I am not worried about recreating the partition and installing windows, have done that many times and know what I am doing). I have gone to Disk Utility and Partition but it only shows one volume on the computer. I tried to drag the corner up and down in case this might reset the count on the right hand side but it made no difference. I also tried to type into the Size window 900GB to see if that would increase the available HD.
Does anyone know what is causing this problem and anyway to fix it?
(I would prefer to do it without erasing the whole volume as I'm waiting for my new external hard drive to arrive so I have no way to back up my Mac volume just yet)

Performing an Archive & Install isn't enough to fix this. What needs to be done is this:
+Backup your data, twice if possible.
+Boot from the OS X DVD and reformat the drive as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) partition with the GUID partition scheme
    +Reinstall OS X.
As you noticed, you dug yourself a hole by using Disk Utility to mess with the partitions. There may be a way to fix this without reformatting, but I'm not aware of it.

  • How do you uninstall bootcamp?

I've installed bootcamp on my mac running Linux, but I've decided I don't want it. How do I remove it?

Use Boot Camp Assistant to make or remove a Boot Camp partition. This may not work because you installed Linux rather than Windows. Let us know if it doesn't.
