Uninstalling CS2

With the purchase of CS3, I have no use for the CS2 I already have on the system. How do I uninstall CS2 and change all the file associations from the CS2 programs to the equivalent CS3 programs?

Thank you for the quick reply.
Do you collaborate with others who may only have CS2? No
Do you ever use ImageReady? No
All the CS3 programs appear to work. just fine.

Evidently, that is not completely true. When sorting through files on my computer, it shows them to be associated with GoLive. if I remove GoLive, that is going to mess things up.
So back to the question. How do I uninstall CS2 (or individual programs in CS2 and re-associate files to the CS3 equivalent.

  • I installed CS4 Web Premium, do I need to uninstall CS2? (I don't have CS3) If so, how?

I thought the installer would just upgrade my existing CS2 apps but after I installed CS4, I saw that all the CS2 apps were still there! Do I need to uninstall them manually? If so, how? Is there any danger in doing that? Or should I uninstall CS4 then uninstall CS2, then reinstall CS4???? Thanks much for any advice/help!

    Karen,
No. This is a full-version upgrade, meaning that it is a complete installation, independent of any past versions installed. Both versions can coexist and can be used.
But if you double-click on a file to launch the application, the most recent version prevails. If you prefer to have the older version default (for the current work session), launch it first, then double-click on the files to work on them.

  • I have Photoshop 6, upgrade CS2, upgrade CS5, can I uninstall CS2?

I originally bought Photoshop 6, upgraded to CS2, and upgraded that to CS5. I don't ever use CS2 and I don't see any reason to keep it. My question is, will uninstalling CS2 adversely affect Photoshop 6 or CS5 in any way? I am wondering if CS2 has to be there for CS5 to run, or if uninstalling CS2 will change or uninstall any Photoshop 6 or CS5 settings.

On Windows, at least, uninstalling one version of Photoshop has been said to goof up file association settings (I can't say because I still have all the versions installed, myself).
If that happens to you, check back here; I'm pretty sure there are posts that can be turned up with a search that will describe how to straighten that out.

  • Uninstalling CS2 package

    Hi All,
I need to install CS3 Package on all of our Macs and therefore, need to uninstall CS2. What is the best way to uninstall CS2 completly before installing CS3?

The first way is to trash the following:
    Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS2
    Users/[user name]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop CS2 Settings
    Users/[user name]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop CS2 Path
There are lots of other little files, that CS3 will ignore or overwrite.
The second way is to use AppZapper [(www.appzapper.com])
You can download a free trial.
Drag the CS2 app from the applications folder to the AppZapper window; it will locate everything else that needs to be removed. Then hit ZAP.
One other note; you may want to deactivate CS2 before removing it; you never know when you may want to reinstall a version of it on a machine. Especially since CS3 currently has some problems with Leopard, which will supposedly be fixed in 10.5.2.

  • Uninstall CS2 after installing CS3 -- any gotchas?

I have just installed PS-CS3(upgrade) under WinXPsp2 and would like to uninstall CS2 now. Will this create any problems with PS-CS3?
    Thanks.

    folks,
Thanks for the advice. I have been using Focus Magic. Mask Pro 4.1, and DxO. Now I am interested in Image Ready, so will check it out.
It was probably not wise to leave CS2 sit there while installing CS3 since I have many Lightroom Databases that have Preferences set for opening CS2 when editing an image outside of the program, but these all seem to have been automatically reset to CS3, at least for the first choice of two designated applications.
I wonder if I have missed an Adobe site that iterates such possible conflicts and consequences of installing CS3 without uninstalling CS2?
I have reached an age where reading software manuals is not my idea of a good time, my current copy of CS3 sitting here for 6 months before installation because I knew i would have to deal with these kinds of issues.
Your help has been invaluable as has this forum in general. THANKS.

  • Adobe CS3 Upgrade - Can I Deactivate/Uninstall CS2?

    Hi all,
A handful of months back, our company purchased the Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium upgrade package to replace our Adobe Creative Suite 2 package. What I am wondering is whether it is necessary for CS2 to remain activated and installed on my system in order to run CS3 programs, or if I may go ahead and deactivate/uninstall it. Again, this was an upgrade package, not the standalone version.
Also, if it IS possible to deactivate/uninstall CS2 and continue running CS3, can another person within our organization install CS2 then, or would this cause conflict with the copy of CS3 I am running...?
    Thanks so much, in advance.
    --Daniel

You can do what you want but if you have even the slightest thought that
you'll need the older version leave it.
In any event, your CS2 copy is tied to the CS3 since it was used to
upgrade it. You can not transfer or install it on a different machine.

  • Error messages appearing in CS5 after uninstalling CS2

I have Adobe CS5 for Windows. I was running out of space on my laptop, and started looking at unneeded programs to delete. I realized that although it had been years since I upgraded, I still had CS2 on the computer taking up several gigs of space, so I uninstalled each CS2 program. Since then, when I attempt to go into CS5 programs, I get error messages. For Photoshop, I get a message that says "Could not synchronize the color settings because the color settings file could not be found." When I go into Illustrator, the message is "Adobe Illustrator has detected a problem in the windows registry which needs to be corrected for Illustrator to work properly. Would you like Illustrator to correct the problem now?"  No matter if I choose yes or no, the error comes back the next time I load it.
I am able to get into Indesign fine, but when I try to print to a PDF, I get this:
%%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: setdistillerparams; ErrorInfo: CalCMYKProfile U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2 ]%%
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
Error accessing color profile: U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
Again, all of this started when I deleted an old copy of CS2. Any idea what's going on? Any help would be appreciated!

Reinstall CS5. uninstalling CS2 has obviously messed with the PDf presets/ libraries.

  • How to safely uninstall CS2 when CS3 is also on machine?

Hi, I want to purge my machine of CS2 but also have CS3 installed on same drive.  I know there is an uninstall PDF and would follow it without question if I did not have CS3 installed as well. I am worried that if I trash all these as instructed:
6 -- From the Utilities folder, drag the following items, if present, to the trash:
    •Adobe Utilities
    •Adobe Updater.app
7 -- From the Library folder, drag the following items, if present, to the trash:
    •Application Support/Adobe/AdobeHelpData
    •Application Support/Adobe/Assistance
    •Application Support/Adobe/StartupScripts/Workflow Automation Scripts
    •Preferences/Adobe/Workflow
    •Preferences/com.adobe.ActivationUtility.plist
    •Preferences/com.adobe.GoLive.plist
•Preferences/Adobe Save For Web GL 8.0 Prefs
8 -- From the Users/[user name] folder, drag the following items, if present, to the trash:
    •Library/Preferences Panes/Opera Preferences
    •Library/Caches/Opera Cache
    •Documents/AdobeStockPhotos
then surely that will stop CS3 from working?  Which is why I have held off from doing it for years already..
    thanks
    CF

Thanks Scott, think it must have been CS3 that began with the uninstaller, cannot see one in that file for CS3.  Yeah, can reinstall CS3 afterwards, just being lazy as it takes a long while as I recall and my Mac's Superdrive is unreliable right now - would be disastrous if I could not reinstall off the CD, maybe I should make a bootable copy on a HDD first.
    Anyway thanks for your help

  • Uninstall CS2 after upgrade to CS4 - is there a new walktrough

Just upgraded from CS2 Premium to CS4 Premium on Mac 0SX 10.5.6, but left CS2 on there as I wanted to copy over a few preset files etc from CS2 to CS4.
Now I want to remove CS2. I've got an old document link for removing CS2 but it mentions removing directories that I know CS4 has installed or shares (e.g. Adobe Utilities and Adobe Updater)
Is there a new walkthrough or utility to remove CS2 once you have upgraded to CS4?

    Buko
That's a bit too succinct and general....
In your apps folder will be a folder call 'Adobe Creative Suite 2'. Within this is an' uninstallers' folder which contains the file 'How to uninstall.pdf'. This file is reproduced (as far as I can tell) at http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=331301
This talks you through the various folders/files to remove.
BUT BEWARE - this was written before CS3/4 existed and as my post (http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b82bde) points out, there will be some folders it suggests you remove, but that CS4 actually need (e.g. Applications/Utilities/Adobe Utilities folder).
I'm seeking a new 'How to Remove CS2 after installing CS4' document myself.
Have spoken to Adobe Tech support today and their suggestion was to "not remove any files/folders you think CS4 may need'.
How flaky is that for Technical Support - some people like to keep their hard drives lean.

  • Installed Cs4 - can I now uninstall cs2?

I recently installed CS4 upgrade on my laptop and would now like to uninstall the version of CS2 that I have been using.
Will removing CS2 remove any shared files that are necessary for CS4 to work properly?
The reason for removing CS2 is that I am quickly running out of available disk space on drive C.
As a side question,  is it possible to delete CS4 from my laptop and re-install it on my D drive (how wil that affect my activation?)?
Thanks in advance for any and all help

It is not advisable to install Photoshop anywhere but  C:\Program files. Some have done it, but many have had problems.
If you want more space on C:\ move stuff off it and clear out all temp files and other accumulated junk (there is normally a lot!)
Get an external drive for your image files.
