Uninstalling from OS X 10.5

Hi, I've just bought a new mac with OS X 10.5 and I'd like to uninstall iCal (since I have no use for it, it's taking up space and I'm a neat-freak)
But when I try to delete it, there's one file that it can't remove - iCalDockExtra.bundle. After a bit of looking around, I've found that it's the file that updates the Dock icon when iCal isn't running, and that the reason I can't remove it is because it's in use by SystemUIServer all the time... but no matter how hard I look I can't see how to stop SystemUIServer loading it.
So how do I stop it loading?

Nevermind, it seems a simple restart was all it needed (between putting it in the trash and emptying it) not sure if this means it's now going to look for a non-existent file every startup, but it's fully removed now

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

Generally, it's ok to install on two machines as long as they are both yours and you only use one version at a time.

  • "Apple Mobile Device Support" will NOT uninstall from my computer, so I am still unable to upload iTunes

"Apple Mobile Device Support" will NOT uninstall from my computer so I am still unable to upload iTunes.  I have tried it multiple times in multiple ways and after the uninstall always fails.  Solutions to this specific problem?

I don't know... A link to the official repair advice is given at the top of my user tip. There was a new build of the iTunes 11.1.4.62 setup file released yesterday which is supposed to install cleanly on any system still back on iTunes 11.1.3.8, however they are still giving the same advice for problem systems that have already been upgraded. I.e. the new installer won't repair a currently borked install.
You can download 7-Zip (free), or a free trial of WinRAR, and unpack the iTunesSetup.exe or iTunesSetup64.exe file into its components, then try installing them individually in alphabetical order (don't try to install SetupAdmin.exe or iCloud.msi). AMDS might not install right now, but you may get a more useful error message as to why not, and you might be able to run iTunes even if you can't update your devices at this stage.

  • I have three programs I would like to uninstall from my apple pro ,   also I am trying to install skype but having great problems with this to  Marie

Hello, I have three programs I would like to delete and uninstall from my apple pro , plus I cant seem to install skype for some reason,as we are going to be traveling around Australia soon I would like to keep in touch with family and friends. I would be most thankfull for your help
                                             Regards  Marie

    Hi Marie
Can you please describe what happens when you try to install Skype? I've found one common issue people have is that they don't actually fully install it - a lot of people download it, open the downloaded image, and run it from there - and dont actually ever copy it to their Applications folder, so next time they look for it, it can't be opened. Try again from scratch - go to the Skype website, download the file, if it doesn't automatically display the Skype disk image on your Desktop, go to your Downloads folder, locate the Skype download and double-click it to open, then, open a new Finder window and drag the Skype application from inside the disk image to your Applications folder. Once that's done you can trash the disk image. Go to your Applications folder, find Skype and launch it. Let me know if you get stuck.
As John says, it would be very helpful to know exactly which Mac you have. If its a laptop, you probably have a MacBook Pro, not a Mac Pro, which is a very large, heavy silver box and not amenable to being dragged around Australia!

Yes, the license allows for two installations simultaneously as long as only one is being used at a time....

    Hi micha164,
I am curious to know how did Flash Player get uninstalled from Chrome? If you can please share steps to reproduce how your Flash Plugin got Removed?
Also, Can you open chrome application Goto Chrome://plugins and See if Adobe Flash Player Plugin is Disabled? If yes, kindly enable Flash Player Plugin by clicking the [blue colored]enable link and restart the browser to see if the changes have reflected.
Because Flash Player cannot be uninstalled from Chrome using any uninstaller, as it is embedded part of the app installer/update and can only be removed if you remove the plugin reference from the location on disk. Possibility is that your plugin got disabled and did not get enabled after that.
Please see if it helps. If the above does not work then the only resolve is to update Chrome app. Please let us know if your query got resolved or not.

You'll need your serial number or proof of purchase. It's really no different than any other kind of software.

I have repeatedly installed and uninstalled Microsoft Silverlight, I have followed every thing out there and uninstalled from various folders.  It still states the program is there and it won't run.  This is also happening with my coupon printer that word

Copied from a page that helped me:
I followed someone else's advice and found all the silverlight files in "INVISIBLE FILES".
In the Finder, choose File > Find or press Command (⌘)-F.
From the far-left pop-up menu (labeled “Kind”), choose Other.
In the list of search attributes, select the “File invisible” checkbox, and then click OK.
In the related menu, choose Invisible Items.
once loaded go to folder Private
    then to folder VAR
    then folder db
    then folder Receipts
scroll to any com.microsoft.silverlight item and delete. there are a bunch of them.
    close, restart and install silverlight.

  • Exchange 2007 uninstall from a 2008 DC help

    Here's the scenario:
We have several Exchange servers and DCs in offices around the world.  We closed one of the offices and the server there was shipped back to the main office here in the US.  This server is also a domain controller.
I connected it to the internal network here and was able to log onto it fine.  However, there appears to be AD issues as if I try to connect to the FSMO role holder in My Computer by typing
\\SERVERNAME, I get a message that it is not accessible and Logon failure: Target account name is incorrect.
These issues are causing the Exchange uninstall from this server to fail as well.  Our goal is to completely eliminate the server from the domain so I wanted to know if I just ran a dcpromo to demote the server, and then try to uninstall Exchange
from the server after it is just a member server, would that cause any issues with the Exchange organization?
I read that running DCPromo on an Exchange server breaks things, but I wasn't sure if it was just on the one server or throughout the entire Exchange Organization.
    Thanks

A couple of questions that will help deal with your situation:
How long was the server offline?
Have you checked the event log to see if there is red indicating lack of domain access?
Is replication to this server also broken?
And yes, running DCPromo on this server can break things in the Exchange system beyond this server.  Don't do it.
Now, if the answers to the questions above were "a long time" and "yes, yes", then you logged in with a cached profile and the server has lost its connection to the domain.  Since this is a domain controller, you were able to logon
because your account exists on it.  It's going to be difficult to remove it gracefully (using Setup).  ou may need to manually remove it from the server and from the environment, then DCPromo the server.
If the system was NOT offline for an extended period, then there are other issues, and my statements above can be ignored.
I'll add that if you have other Exchange servers that are domain controllers, you need to start planning to remove Exchange from them ASAP so you don't end up in this predicament again.  See the following -
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996719(EXCHG.80).aspx - specifically "For security and performance reasons, we recommend that you install Exchange 2007 only on
member servers, and not on Active Directory directory servers."

  • Steps to uninstall from iMac (Intel Core i7) MacKeeper 1.8.1

What steps should I take to uninstall from iMac (3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 with OS X 10.9.4 /  8 Ram) MacKeeper 1.8.1? I saw something similar on the site, but it's a different version not stored in the Library files. Instead MacKeeper is in the Applications file, so can I just dump it in the trash to be gone with it or do I have to have an uninstaller? Thanks!, and sorry if this is a redundant question.

If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide and The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Tool. Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.

From user Joe Bailey comes this equally useful advice:
    The facts are:
    1. There is no anti-malware software that can detect 100% of the malware out there.
    2. There is no anti-malware that can detect anything targeting the Mac because there
is no Mac malware in the wild, and therefore, no "signatures" to detect.
    3. The very best way to prevent the most attacks is for you as the user to be aware that
the most successful malware attacks rely on very sophisticated social engineering
techniques preying on human avarice, ****, and fear.
    4. Internet popups saying the FBI, NSA, Microsoft, your ISP has detected malware on
your computer is intended to entice you to install their malware thinking it is a
        protection against malware.
    5. Some of the anti-malware products on the market are worse than the malware
from which they purport to protect you.
    6. Be cautious where you go on the internet.
    7. Only download anything from sites you know are safe.
    8. Avoid links you receive in email, always be suspicious even if you get something
you think is from a friend, but you were not expecting.
    9. If there is any question in your mind, then assume it is malware.
