Uninstalling iPhoto Update from iLife

Does anyone know how to uninstall the iPhoto update from iLife (and even for iMovie too)? I really don't like the new iPhoto as simple things are now more difficult or aren't available anymore. The changes seem more superficial as I haven't found any new tools or processes that help. Don't even get me started on the iMovie problems. Please tell me there is a way to go back.

iPhoto 7 did not make things harder to do, in fact it is virtually identical to the previous version!
I generally agree - But a few things are different and there is a requirement that a user LEARN how to use the new features and those that have changed - for doing that you get a greatly expanded capability so IMHO it is a great trade off - but for a user who is unable or unwilling to learn a few new things it can be difficult - as can ANY new version of ANY new software

  • IPhoto updates from App store.

Would anyone know why iPhoto updates from the App store seem to take ages to load.
They always seem quite large in content and for all I know could be replacing the entire
    iPhoto program.

It seems pretty much in line to me.
You have a 14000 kps download speed. That's about 1.4 MB per second - but... That's assuming you have only one download going, depends on the contention rate of the ISP, how fast your Mac can write to the HD and how fast the output from the server is.
So, there can be considerable variation from download to download depending on these factors.
But even if you divide the size of the download by the nominal speed (and divide that buy 60 to get minutes) you'll see that it's not far off. So, 740/1.4/60 you get 8.8 minutes or thereabouts.
When your App checks for updates it basically says something like "Hello, I'm iPhoto v9.1.5, do you have an update for me". That's really all that Apple know. The update mechanism on your Mac performs a similar equation to get an estimate of the time.

  • IPhoto update from iLife06 won't open HP Scans. Help?

I decided to install iLife06 and had instant problems. I have a 2.5 Dual G5 running 10.3.9. and am using an HP 4890 scanner. Prior to installing the iPhoto update as part of iLIfe06, everything worked fine. I would scan a photo and transfer it to iPhoto and open it and work on it and whatever. Now...scans won't open in iPhoto. No matter how I try to sneak the scan into iPhoto, (via Preview, etc.), it won't open, freezes and has to be force quit. Reinstalled HP software to no avail. All the prior scans done on the same HP 4890, that were already in iPhoto, open fine, but new ones....nada. Had issue with iWeb too, not happy with this iLife06...how do I get rid of it, get back the old iPhoto, and back to serenity? If I use the original disks can I just install the old iPhoto?

    Hi redcatres,
I do not know the answer of why the scans are not opening in iPhoto. Do you scan and save to a folder (not the iPhoto Library folder), then import into iPhoto?
To get back to iPhoto 5, you would really need a backup of the iPhoto 5 Library folder that has not been updated to version 6 in order to keep your metadata such as comments and keywords, and also all your albums, slideshows, books.
You can go back to 5 if you do not have a version 5 backup, but you will have to reimport your photos and lose your metadata.
    Steps:
    To reinstall iPhoto 5
Drag the iPhoto Library folder in the Pictures folder to the desktop and rename it it iPhoto 6 library
Navigate to /Applications and drag iPhoto to the trash
Navigate to /Library/Receipts and drag all iPhoto receipts to the trash
Navigate to ~/Library/Preferences and drag com.apple.iPhoto.plist to the trash.
Insert your iLife 5 CD/DVD and choose to do a custom install. You will have to keep ongoing through the steps of the install before you get to the screen where you can choose a custom install.
    Install iPhoto.
Run Software Update and update iPhoto to the latest version of 5
Put your backup iPhoto 5 library in the Pictures folder and launch iPhoto.
If you do not have a backup iPhoto 5 library:
Open the iPhoto 6 library folder on the desktop
-double click the iPhoto Library folder on the desktop to open it
-the two main folders you will need to import are the Original folder and the Modified folder (only if you want to import the edited images).
-the Originals folder has all your originals photos unedited. the Modified folder has all images that you have edited, rotated, cropped, etc.
-Drag these two folders to the desktop
-If you want to save the edited image, find it in the roll in the Modified folder and drag it into the roll of the same name in the Originals folder. It will replace the originals and now will be the original.
-If you don't care to save any edited images, then don't import the Modified folder into iPhoto or don't bother replacing the edited image with the original image like I just described.
-If you import the Originals folder into iPhoto you will have all your originals in their named rolls.
-If you import the Originals and Modified folders into iPhoto, you will have all of the being in the originals folder in the finder. The roll with the same name as the other will have a _1 appended to it's name (in the finder)
-the roll from the originals will be next to the same roll from the Modified folder within iPhoto. You can then delete any of the images from there if you want.
I know this might sound confusing but it really isn't.
Get back if any of this sounds like something you might want to do.

  • IPhotos update from 2.0.1 to the one that has multiple editing facilities

My effort to upgrade from OS X 10.3.9 to OS X 10.4 was a total disaster as it corrupted all of my most important Applications:- broadband, email, Appleworks, printer, and others.
I have had all my most important material saved, mostly 25,000 photos & family stuff, and a clean instalation done of OS X 10.3.0. I upgraded it to 10.3.9. which is where I was before. This gave me about 14GB more space on HD, which was down to 1.5GB.
I will be buying a top iMac very soon, but in the next 6-8 weeks, but I still want to edit my recent music photos, and edit them properly. I don't do Photoshop, neither am I yet on iLife.
I still do my popular website on iMac, (Does it still exist?)
So my question is:- Which is the first/most appropiate iPhoto application/ update that does all the multiple photo editing processes after iPhotos 2.0.1 in OS X 10.3.9 Panther.
    Where can I find it?
Your help will be much appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Rupe.

    Thanks Larry,
I understand that low HD memory causes difficulties, which is why my new iMac will have up to 1 Terabyte of HD memory.
I am looking for the same version of iPhoto as I had previously, before having to do a clean install.
In edit mode iPhotos 2.0.1 can only alter brightness/contrast. The slightly higher edition which I had before, could alter about 8-10 aspects including sharpness, exposure, brightness, contrast, warmth, straightening, antiquing etc. I can't rememember all the effects, because I only ever used a few of them, plus sometimes red-eye or crop. Neither can I remember the number of the application, but I think it would probably be iPhoto 2 or 3, maybe 4. Higher versions probably would not work on OS X 10.3.9.
I am talking pre OS X 10.4 applications for iPhoto, which I have only been using for around the last year or maybe a bit longer, which would work on OS X 10.3.9.
Forget iLife '08 and iPhoto '08. I am not yet into that, but I do look forward to using it.
When I go on Software Update it does show any iPhotos updates.
Are you able to help me.

  • IPhoto update from 9.1.5 to 9.2 not possible

My iPhoto/iLife 11 version came with Lion and was installed after a harddisk crash last summer.
Now the program updates don't show up in the Softwareupdate-program, but only in the App Store. I can update any purchased program there, except iLife programs (at the moment Garage Band an diPhoto), as I get the answer: "updates for other accounts available - switch to the account you have purchased the program with". Indeed I have a second account, but get the same message when I try to use this one.
I also downloaded the update from the apple website, but it doesn't install!
What can I do to finally get iPhoto to update on the new version?

You're going to need to sort out that account issue with the App Store. As it's an account issue only they can help. It seems that the install is attached to the account of whoever installed after the HD crash.

  • Cannot install iPhoto 4 from iLife 04

Help, I cannot install iPhoto from iLife 04 cd, i always get a message that one of these programs are opened itune, idvd, iphoto...
Iphoto is not installed in my computer.
    What should I do?
    Regards
    negiL

I had this same problem. There is probaby a iTunes help file or something like that running in the background. I think you can look in system profiler and find what is running and shut it down. Once you do this you should be able to load iPhoto for the iLife disk. I am not at my mac right now. I will check this evening when I get home and see where I found the file running and post a more detailed response.

  • How do I download my iPhoto update from App Store?

I have iPhoto on my iMac (it is the one that came preinstalled - it has likely had updates made to it since I had the iMac as I have had it a few years now, but I never use iPhoto so don't know which version currently.)
    I am running 10.8.2.
I have just got an iPhone and wish to download some photos, so I read on the apple site that iPhoto will automatically do so when I connect with USB.
I have gone to my iPhoto application and it won't open.  Instead a message comes up saying "You can't open the application iPhoto because it is being updated."  When I open up the App Store to see where to update it, iPhoto is listed in the lists of update apps with RESUME next to it. (Perhaps I may have tried to upload the update before...)   But I go RESUME a box pops up saying "You cannot update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software."
Could someone please help.  What do I need to do to get the application to update?  (I need my photos off my iPhone to send to someone quite urgently!)
    Many thanks.
    Fran

Hello, I finally went to the App Store support who rang me back and went through it.  It seems that Mountain Lion will not operate iPhoto 9.3.2, you have to have 9.4.2.  So trashed the application in my Applications folder (which has cleared my App Store of the hanging iPhoto updater) and they signposted me to the download for 9.4.2 (mind you it is taking hours to download!!)  I live in hope that this will fix it.  If it doesn't I'll let you know!

  • Iphoto update from the AppStore

Hi, i'm trying to download an update for iphoto from the AppStore but i get an error message suggesting to sign in with the account I use to purchase iPhoto, which is irrelevant since iphoto was already installed when i puchased my macbook - therefore signing into my account doesn't work.

If iPhoto came preinstalled on your Mac, you need to accept it to your AppleID. Then you can upgrade it from the  "Updates" panel at the App Store.
Have you alredy accepted the iLife Aplications?
    If not:
Double-click the App Store icon in the dock.
Enter your Apple ID and password.
    Click Purchases.
If you haven't previously accepted your bundled iLife applications within the Mac App Store, you should see your iLife applications appear in the Accept portion of the screen. Click Accept.
You may be asked for your Apple ID and password once again. Your iLife applications now move to the Purchased section. These applications are part of the software that came with your Lion based computer. Your account will not be charged for them.

  • IPhoto update from Mavericks deleted my library. How can I get my pictures back?

Soo my iPhoto just decided not to find my photo library anymore.
When I open iPhoto, it only opens a windwo where I can decide which library I want to open, but gives me no choices, the list is empty. Normally this window opens when my external HD is connected to my macbook since then there's two iPhotos available, but now it just doesnt find even one.
I had another problem with the iPhoto on my external HD, i wanted to open it but a window opened to tell me that my library is used by another programm or that the library can't be read anymore. I was able to save those pictures by showing the contents and copying the pictures.
Buuuut now on the macbook, when I do the left click thing to open the contents of the package, there are no pictures in it at all, no folder has pictures in it. When I copy the version from time machine, nothing changes. iPhoto has a size of 1.7 Gb, which is way to small. God dammit.
How can I get my pictures back?

    Thank you Terence!
    Okay, so here the details:
    iPhoto Version 9.5.1
    OS X Version 10.9.1
So here what I did, detailed. (pardon my english, I'm swiss)
I downloaded Mavericks, few days later updated iPhoto (the iPhoto icon was orange before and turned blue after the update). All went well, until one month later, all of a sudden, I was not able to open my iPhoto on the external harddisk. A window opened to tell me that either my library is being used by another programm or that it can't be read anymore. To solve this problem iPhoto tells me to do several things, for example shut down the computer and then open iPhoto again, or set up my library again or open iPhoto by pressing command and alt. But non of those instructions helped. So I opened the contents, I looked for the folder with the masters of my pictures and copied the whole thing onto another harddisk.
I think I got those Pics saved, but I still can't open iPhoto on the external harddisk.
Oh and by the way, the iPhoto icon on my external harddisk looks different now, it's three pictures in a row and the one on top shows a redish flower.
So now, two days later I try to open the iPhoto on my regular macbook. A window pops up and says that I have to choose a library that I want to open. (iPhoto usually did that when I had my external harddisk connected since there were two different librarys then, one on my external, one on my computer) But now, instead of showing me the library's I can choose from it only shows nothing, no list or anything i could even choose. And then below there's this button that says something like "create a new library".
    So what I did:
I open the contents and looked for the masters of my pictures, but there weren't any pictures at all. The iPhoto has a size of 1.7 GB which I think is too small for all the Pics and videos i stored in there.
I tried to get the IPhoto from Time Machine, but nothing changed. Iphoto still's 1.7 GB.
I opened the file "Pictures" in the Finder, but there's no such file like "iPhoto library", like it's deleted or something like that.
So i think that I used iPhoto usually, nothing speciall. I imported Pictures from my iPhone or camera and left them there.
    Does that help?

  • How to remove apple store iPhoto-update from screen?

I bought an applebook pro recently ... apple store offers an update indicated by an encircled red 1.
When hitting up-date a pull down message tells me to enter with the account I purchased iPhotot with.
This makes no sense as iPhoto has been part of the bundle of programs installed on the laptop already.
Is there a solution out there or a way to remove this update reminder from the apple store icon?
    Thanks,
    Peer

Thanks for your help which does not help much ... as said I bought the applebook along with iPhoto not separate ... Apple store asks me for an ID I don't have ... I cannot apply my Apple ID which I set right after purchasing ... in other words ... I get allowance to enter apple store with my ID but when hitting the up-date button apple store ask for an ID I cannot have as I bought iPhoto long with the applebook ... do you have other ideas how to overcome this issue?

  • Can I use my wife's iPhoto update from her iMac to update my older version of iPhoto?

I have a mid 2010 iMac with iPhoto 09 (version 8.1.2). My wife has a newer iMac with iPhoto 11.  Can I use her updates to update my iPhoto to the latest iPhoto 11 version if I sign in with her Apple ID and password on my computer?   Or do I have to upgrade my own and pay for that separately?
    Thanks,
    Mark

Why not just give it a try?  Based on the limited information you gave I believe you can

  • IPhoto 09 (from iLife 09)

Up to my last upgrade to iPhoto 09 (offered online by Appple) iPhoto ran just fine on my G5, (PC chip - non intel).
IMMEDIATELY after the upgrade, iPhoto will display all events and folder, BUT if I select PHOTOS. ie all pics), my G5 goes into a spinning ball mode, and must be FORCE QUIT - (error message says iPhoto is "not responding)
    Anyone any ideas !!?
LOTS of RAM, disk space - about 28,000 pics ?????
I can edit, add new events etc. - just not see any pics in full library

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

  • HT2357 how to uninstall an update from software updates

i saw a button that says update software, so i clicked yes, no this firmware software updated, then i removed it, but my safari still looks differet, i dont have the quick google search bar and my computer is slow.

    What Mac do you have?
What version of OS X are you running?
    What update did you install?

  • I'd like to use iPhoto '09 with Lion. Tried to install from time machine back-up no go. Tried to install from iLife '09 DVD no go.

I'd like to run iPhoto '09 on Lion. Tried to install on Lion from Time Machine backup. Got message iPhoto won't work because of a missing Library file. Tried to install iPhoto '09 from iLife '09 DVD. Got message that it cannot be installed on my system. iMovie runs previous versions and iTunes runs previous versions.
Why can't iPhoto run on Lion? My wife has over 10,000 photos in her library and she's taken the time to sort them into folders. I've recovered the library with the folder sort but have to use it on an external drive with a Snow Leopard system on it. The latest iPhoto ('11) has no provision for organizing into folders. I'd really like to have everything in one place with one OS (Lion) and two iPhoto apps '09 and '11 and I suppose 2 photo libraries. I've been trying to resolve this ever since iPhoto '11 came out and I installed it. I can't begin to tell you how difficult it is to answer the question " Where are my folders?" brian25

I tried to check the Library setup on iMovie and iTunes. The iMovie Libraries seem to be part of the applications and my iTunes applications have become Russian so I have another problem. I tried to install iPhoto '09 again from my iLife '09 disk. When I selected "Custom Install" to load iPhoto only, the box I got said " A later version of this application is already installed" The iPhoto item which I would choose for a custom install says "skip". Yesterday I ignored this and went on with an install. The final screen said "Installation Successful" There was no iPhoto '09 on my hard drive. As far as I can tell, you cannot load iPhoto '09 from a Time Machine backup. There is no Lion compatable iPhoto '09 in the App store, and iPhoto '09 will not install onto Lion from the iLife '09 disk.I don't understand exactly what you mean by "load my backup and convert again" Do you mean go to the app store and access my purchases and re- download iPhoto '11 and reinstall it and re-convert my iPhoto library? I suppose what I should have done originally was to duplicate my iPhoto '09 library and put it on an external drive for safekeeping. Who knew it wouldn't install on Lion from Time Machine? When I downloaded iPhoto '!! from the app store I should have duplicated it and saved a copy to an external hard drive for safekeeping and then proceeded with installing iPhoto '11 on my hard drive.I suppose when the Thunderbolt concept is fully realized and monster Thunderbolt external droves are in common use this will seem a lot easier. I have rebuilt my iPhoto '09 library and have it on a hard disk that has a bootable copy of Snow Leopard and a working copy of iPhoto '09 also. I think you are telling me to reinstall iPhoto '11 on my internal hard drive and reconvert the iPhoto library used by iPhoto '11. Right? brian25

  • Revert iPhoto Library from 09 to 08

    Hi!
I recently bought the new MacBook with iLife 09. I then use the 09 version to open the iPhoto 08 Library from my iMac via my home sharing network. Now I cant open the Library anymore with the iMac.
All photos came back when I copied the whole library to the MacBook and it works fine.
My question: Is there a way to revert the 09 Library back to 08?
    Thanks!

G4 Mac Book and my G4 Mac Pro
    I guess u mean G4 iBook/PowerBook and G4 PowerMac.
I have discovered that I cannot upgrade my G4 Macs to iPhoto 8 because it works only with the Intel Macs.
iPhoto 08 or 09 are universal binaries unless you have "thinned" it by stripping the PPC code. I have iPhoto 09 installed fine on G4 PPC PowerBook.
The issue you are encountering is, i guess, the backward compatibility problem of opening iPhoto 08 library with iPhoto 07. When you upgrade it to iPhoto 08, you shouldn't have any problems.
Is it possible to uninstall iPhoto 8 from my MacPro (keeping the other iLife 9 programs) and install iPhoto 7 only? Or, is it possible to have both versions installed?
I'm confused. you are talking about iPhoto 7, 8 and 09 as well ?
But, all of them install fine on G4 PPC.
