Uninstalling LR2

What is the best method and procedure for installing LR2 and then reinstalling fresh again.
I am having some bugs in LR2 and need to test out uninstalling the application.
See my posting below regarding the global selection and modification issues I am encountering in LR2.
Thanks,
Tony S.

Uninstall as usual (on Windows: Control Panel>Add/remove Programs). Then delete you prefs file (...<user_folder>\Application Data\Adobe\Lightroom\Preferences or its equivalent on Vista or Mac).
You might also try only removing the prefs file, to see if this solves your problem without reinstalling.

  • Uninstall LR2 after upgrade to LR3 (Windows 7 64-bit)?

I just purchased the online LR3 upgrade and then upgraded LR2 to LR3.
The upgrade seems to have worked just fine, and I am able to open and operate LR3 on my existing catalog.
Apparent problem:  LR2 was not uninstalled, so when I insert media, etc, both LR2 and LR3 show up as possible target applications.
Question: Should I uninstall LR2, or should I just leave it there and ignore it?  I definitely do not need to run the LR2 application, but I also do not want to harm my LR3 installation or existing catalog.  FYI, I did upgrade all of the photos in the LR3 catalog to the new (2010) process.  My machine a Windows 7 64-bit box.
Thanks in advance for any help.

That is normal. Some users may want to retain the older version for a variety of reasons e.g. results comparison, possible problems with new version etc.
You see the same behavior with Photoshop or Creative Suite upgrades.
There can be some gotchas in that instance with file handling preferences for example. It's not been an issue for your circumstance though, by the sound of it.

  • I have LR2. On Adobe I updated to LR2.7 and since then having problems editing images in PS6.

I select image in LR2.7 to edit in PS6.  It launches PS6 but image does not come through.  It comes up with message "the file could not be edited because CS6 could not be launched" when in fact it has launched CS6 but not the image.
I have uninstalled LR2 a few times and reinstalled it and when I leave LR2 I can select image to edit in CS6 and it works okay but when I update on Adobe website to LR 2.7 it starts to play up and not work.  What is the problem?
Can anyone help with this as I am starting to tear my hair out.  Have had this problem for a couple of months now and cannot do my work.

    Firstly thanks for your responses.
    I have Windows 8 not Windows 7.
I have brought down the UAC setting but it still does the same but I just answer yes and it opens CS6 Extended but not the image.  The fact is that when I ask in LR to edit in CS6 it tells me it can't open CS6 but it does open CS6 but not the image.  Even if I ask to "open as smart object in Photoshop" it does not do it.
No matter where I start Lightroom from it still does the same.  I only used Bridge a couple of days ago for the first time so this problem has nothing to do with Bridge.  When I select an image in Bridge it does bring it up in CS6 when I ask so this works fine.
In LR/Photo/Edit in, if I select "Edit in Photoshop.exe" it works - it takes the image and gives me the option of edit a copy with LR adjustments etc but if I go LR/Photo/Edit in "Adobe Photoshop CS6" it just opens up CS6 and not the image plus gives me the message "the file could not be edited because CS6 could not be launched" when it has launched.  So should I just use "Edit in Photoshop.exe" or not - I don't fully understand all of this so maybe you could explain in lay terms.
As I said earlier, it has only recently happened, in the last couple of months.  Before that I had no problems so I don't know where this problem came from.  The only thing I can remember is one day I was playing around with the preferences and maybe I have done something with that in LR and CS6 but I don't know.
Hopefully this will answer back some of your questions but it has nothing to do with Bridge as per your views in the posts below.

  • LR2 Sluggishness Resolution

I was having the issue of LR2 being incredible sluggish and slow. I found that uninstalling LR 1.4.1 has resolved much if not all of the delays.
    Win XP Pro SP2 P4 3GHz 2 GB RAM
I was watching the process monitor while running LR2 and LR14 installed (not running) and the RAM would constantly reach 500MB plus and not drop back down. There was constant disk activity and cpu usage that hovered around 25%. With LR14 uninstalled the RAM usage will spike up into the 400MB range but always drop back to the 160-200 MB range. Seemingly unnecessary disk activity has subsided.
Hopefully someone else can confirm this. Its changed my impression of LR2, I was ready to go back to LR141.

    don,
When LR2 was running with LR141 installed (not running) the RAM and disk activity skyrocketed. LR2 was sluggish, preview generation was incredibly slow, localized corrections were unusable. Once I uninstalled LR141, hold it...
I did delete the LR2 Previews for a catalog (5700 images) also as an attempt to solve the problem. I noticed that the LR2 previews were 3x the size of the LR141 previews total (3+GB vs. 900MB). I deleted the LR2 previews and attempted to recreate, it was utter agony as LR2 stumbled along at a snails pace. I have other catalogs that I did not delete the previews and they have increased performance as well so this may not be anything.
Then I uninstalled LR141 and it was like a switch was thrown. RAM usage and disk activity returned to normal (or LR141 levels) and functionality returned. Sliders are smoother, localized corrections are ...usable (still would like to see some optimization here) previews and image response is good. Keywording was stalling out LR2 and it is back to normal as well. These are all things that I have heard from others on the forums.
    History
    - started installing LR mid-beta 1
    - have installed all versions up to 1.4.1
    - had installed the LR2 beta
    - Installed LR2 without uninstalling LR2 Beta
    - LR2 performs poorly
    - Uninstall LR141
    - LR2 performance returns
As you know YMMV, but his worked for me.

  • Installed LR2.6 and lost Camera Calibrations and....

Installed LR2.6 a couple of days ago and now everytime I start it, it wants me to enter my seriel number, but also I do not have any of the Nikon Camera Calibrations availailable, Only the ACR 4.6 Calibration.  What gives?  Do I need to install ACR 5.6 also?  I do have PS CS4 so I guess I need to install it anyways. But what about having to re-enter my series.  Wouldn't be a problem except that I'm away from home for a few days and don't have access to the LR boxes.  This for Windows verson.
    Thanks
    Doug

That didn't work, but here's what was happening, I uninstalled LR2.6 to roll back to LR2.5.  But when I was installing 2.5 I was getting an error message that a Fold Called - "ProgramData/Adobe/CameraRaw" could not be created.  After doing so troubleshooting, I firgured that the folder was locked and LR did not have the right to modify the folder.  SO I went in and changed permissions and unlocked the folder.  Got LR 2.5 installed, but now each time I launch LR, it wants my serials.  I enter them and it doesn't take the number and have to re-enter each time I launch it.  Any suggestions?  Using Windows 7 Home Edition.
    Thanks

  • How to uninstall LR?

I would like to uninstall LR2 from my computer (Mac), but I don't see an "uninstall" option like I see if I wanted to uninstall Photoshop. Do I just move it to trash? or is there a different way?
    Thanks!

    Hello,
But what if you already installatd LR3?
Isn't the folder you mentioned contains it's files as well?
    No. 3,
    3. Drag Lightroom folder in Users/~Library/Application Support to trash.
    I found this floder under Users/~Library/Application Support/Adobe
Isn't this folder contains files of LR3 in it?

  • The LR 2.6 has worked for months. Now every installation tells me it's expired!

I've used LR 2.6 since it was released. Last week, it told me:
"This Beta version of Lightroom has expired. The application will now quit. " Sure enough, it did!
Rebooting; uninstalling and reinstalling from Adobe site produced same result. I am obsessive enough that each option was tried many times, with, naturally, same results.

I realize if I hold my breath for a month the'real' one will issue. However, SOMETHING, caused this experience. If it's fixable now, I won't have to worry later.

A solution, inelegant for sure, but so far LR2.6 works.
    uninstall LR2.6
start System Restore on the install line as far back as possible
download a 'fresh' LR2.6 from Adobe and install.
    Reboot.
It works .Your solution showed a much better command of the code detail than I will ever have! Thank you for the promptness and thoughtfulness you showed.

  • Smart Collections missing

I installed the new version LR2. Previously I uninstall LR2 beta. In the beta version it had five Smart Collections, but there are no Smart Collections in LR2 final release.
How can I restore the Smart Collections to show up?
    Thank you.

Did you upgrade an LR2 Beat Catalog with LR2? The smart collections should have come along with the catalog. If you started a new Catalog you will have to create new smart collections, AFAIK.

  • Cannot import CR2

I recently upgraded to Lightroom 3 from version 2.6. Along with upgrading Lightroom I installed Photoshop CS5. I am on a Windows computer, 64bit, Windows Vista. I am now unable to import my CR2 files using lightroom. I am given the error of the files not being able to be imported because the file type cannot be read. I have tried CR2 files from my Canon 7D and my Canon T1i. Neither camera's files can be imported. I was able to import my Lightroom catalog from 2.6 into 3. Lightroom is able to read and do everything just fine with my old files. I am just not able to import anything new. I checked for updates and everything seems to be up to date. I don't know if it makes a difference but I still have Lightroom 2.6 still installed on my computer along with Lightroom 3. What do I need to do to be able to import my files? Thanks for your help.

I have tried doing the additional following things.
Went into LR3 Preferences, General Tab, I now checked the previously unchecked box for Import Options - "Show import dialog when a memory card is detected".
Connected the Canon XTi directly with a cable to the laptop computer.  Note that Canon's information said that Picture Transfer Protocol is automatically used when the XTi is directly connected to a computer, so I did not need to change anything in the camera's menu for communications choices (there is no communication menu in fact).  I selected one image and copied it to the laptop desktop.  Tried to import it into LR3 but got the error message "Could not copy a file to the requested location."  While in LR3, I changed the location of where the file would be copied into; tried 5 different folders, but kept getting the same error message.
With the card reader connected via USB port on the laptop, I copied one image file to the desktop, and then tried importing into LR3.  Got the error message "Could not copy a file to the requested location."
I am at a loss as what to do at this point.  The problem started happening after doing an upgrade to LR3.  As I mentioned before, I was successful in importing images from the Epson 7000 into LR2 and could see the images in LR2.  A week later I upgraded to LR3 and did the move of the Epson 7000 imported images to the correct folder (did the movement using LR3 method).  At this point, I cannot do any imports into LR3 or LR2, no matter what choices that I have tried.
If I need to, I would uninstall LR2, uninstall LR3, and then install LR3.  Would that be the choice to do at this time?  If yes, what precautions should be done to ensure the catalogs are not damaged or erased, or will the catalogs still remain untouched during the uninstalls and reinstall?

    Mike,
I'm on a Mac, so some things are different, but I thought on a Windows machine, when an upgrade was done, LR replaced the prior version, so I'm just not sure if there is an issue there.  Did you try to bring any of these images into CS5 via ACR?  Does that work?  Let's narrow this down to a LR issue or something else perhaps.
Once you brought everything into LR 3 it created the new version of the catalog based on your old one.  Unless you've also got a LR2 version of the catalog still around, you can't go back to LR 2.  Does LR 3 import anything, e.g. a JPEG file or a DNG saved from CS5?  Judging by what you're saying I'm thinking it may not.
If you want to eliminate whether or not the issue is associated with the catalog that was created, open LR and create a new and different catalog (name it anything you want.. e.g. TestCatalog) and try importing into that one.  If that works, then something happened during the process of creating the new catalog from the old.
As far as trying the uninstall route, just make sure you have done backups of any catalogs you have and if you want to make doubly sure, make a copy of those.
Lastly, you should be able to import directly from the card reader unless there is some odd conflict there.

  • Registering the trial version as an upgrade purchase

I have LR V2 and downloaded the trial version of V3. If I want to purchase the upgrade version, would I just purchase that, get the serial #, and when I enter that # in the trial registration area, will it know that is an upgrade serial # and then prompt me for my LR V2 serial #? Or, will I have to uninstall the trial and download/install the upgrade version?
    Thanks!
    SirBC

There is no difference from the trial version and the "real" version other than entering a serial number.
If you already had LR2 installed, then installed LR3 and entered the serial number, it will probably not ask for your LR2 serial.  Depending on how you uninstalled LR2, that is.
Bottom line, you should be fine without uninstalling/installing.
    Cheers!

  • Can I delete LR2 after upgrading to LR4?

I just upgraded from LR2.7 to LR4.2.     LR2.7  is still on my computer....  The upgrade transferred my old presets OK. So, can I delete LR2.7 without any problems?
    Ed in Florida

Yes, you can uninstall older versions of LR. The LR upgrades (and updates) are complete programs - they don't need the older versions to run.
P.S. Even if you want to fall back to the old process version of LR 2.x, LR 4.x still does support them (menu settings -> process ->... or at "camera calibration" pane).

  • LR broken: can't uninstall or reinstall because of 'missing Adobe_Lightroom.msi"

LR2.1 has failed shortly after installation (ie it worked a few times) with a C++ Runtime error-- "Runtime Error. This application has requested the Runtime terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the applications support team for further info.".
I can't uninstall it or reinstall it because I get the message "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable."
The install program quits when the install package is looking for Adobe_Lightroom.msi.
I've searched my machine and there is no Adobe_Lightroom.msi, nor is there a directory with the name that appears as default.
I had LR 2.0 installed and all was working fine since the original installation. The OS is Windows XP Pro. It may have been a coincidence, but this occurred shortly after installing CS4 and trying unsuccessfully to get the fancy stuff with the graphics card working.
I found one problem like this in the forums from Mike about a year ago, but nobody responded. Hopefully somebody knows how to get around this now.
    Paul

download Microsoft uninstall routine and run it deleting the LR installation.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
reboot and try your installation again.
You may have to manually delete your current install but; I think you should be able to over write the exiting build assuming its the exact same version and not newer.
If the version you want to install is newer then manually delete the old install.

  • LR2.3/Vista: why won't it auto open when camera is plugged in?

    Dear All:
My LR1.4 used to automatically open whenever i plug in (via usb) a camera, very convenient.
i've upgraded to LR2.3, and all seems to be fine.
i just bought a brand new Fuji F200EXR camera, and somehow, "autoplay" does open (that's a Vista autoplay window), but LR2.3 does not open up. even when i choose the link at the bottom of the autoplay window for managing that in Vista, Fuji F200EXR DOES show up, as do other cameras that i've used before, but the drop down menu for the Fuji F200EXR does not contain LR2.3 in it!
may i ask what the proper, correct way is to request that LR2.3 opens up whenever a camera is connected? (it's not an issue with my other cameras, just somehow, the Fuji F200EXR is not quite recognized by LR2.3 or something like that).
    thanks in advance.
PS: the way i do it now is after i plug the camera in, i then open up LR2.3 manually via double clicking the LR2.3 icon on my desktop. i then go to File/import via a device. at which point, LR2.3 takes only a very short time to upload my pictures from the SD card inside the Fuji F200EXR camera. i find the LR2.3 faster and more responsive than my previous LR1.4.

I haven't been shooting any photos lately, so I hadn't run into this yet, but it seems like Lightroom 2.3 didn't install any AutoPlay handlers (which is what adds items to the list in the AutoPlay Control Panel). I plugged in my Fuji camera, and it wasn't there. So I tried by Canon, and it's not there for that camera either.
So I decided to uninstall and re-install LR 2.3, and that seemed to fix it.
So, I'd suggest that you do the same. 2.3, although technically an update, contains the entire program, so just uninstall LR 2.3, then install LR 2.3 update (don't install LR 2.0 first, which is what you get on the install CD). If you don't still have the 2.3 update, you can download it from here:

  • LR2.2 to edit in Photoshop CS4 yield lighter images in PS

I notice a problem since upgrading to PS CS4 from PS CS3, that when I select Edit in PS CS4 from within LR 2.1, the image that opens in PS is noticeably lighter by about one stop. I get the same result if I edit as smart object or as a TIF. If I make no changes within PS but just save the TIF file and then go back to LR, the new TIF saved from within PS and the original CR2 (or DNG) file appear to be at the same exposure when viewed inside LR2.1. I was hoping that upgrading to LR2.2 would fix the problem, but it has not. It is exactly the same.
I've checked all of my LR and PS settings and preferences and there is not additional processing that is being done when I edit in PS. It's really strange.
My monitor, an Eizo ColorEdge CE240W, is properly calibrated. I'm running a MacPro 8 core with Leopard 10.5.6.
I have exactly the same software and settings installed on my MacBookPro 15" but I do not have the problem there.
I tried uninstalling PS-CS4, deleting PS and LR preferences and reinstalling PS-CS4 to no avail. I did not have this problem with previous versions of LR and PS.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

  • ACR6 and LR2 in anticipation of LR3

Just a quick question. Does this workflow work?
Edit levels, etc of an image in ACR6.0
In LR2.7, click on the arrow in the top right-hand corner of the image to import settings from the xmp file that ACR updated
Then, in LR, edit metadata and export.
What I'm hoping is that when I upgrade to LR3 when it's out of beta, that I will see the metadata adjustments I made in LR2.7 as well as the image edits I made in ACR6. (I would guess that if I adjust eg sharpening in LR after ACR, then I would have problems, but I'm hoping that I will remember to not do that!).

dj_paige     That's an awful lot of work, especially since LR2.7 will not interpret ACR6 edits properly. I don't see the benefit of this.
I believe  dj_paige understands this - he's simply trying to save his metadata edits in LR2.7. I assume he's using PS CS5 for these edits, and wants to import the photos into LR purely for organisational and metadata purposes.
dj_paige     I don't think that you will be able to take work done in LR3 and "revert it back to LR2.7"
By revert, I mean the Lightroom sofware, not the catalog - uninstall LR3, and temporarily re-install LR2.7. You will then have access to the ORIGINAL LR2.7 backup catalog. This process a contingency only, and to be used only if the metadata edits are lost in LR3.
