Uninstalling Mac Os 9

I have both Mac OS X and Classic 9 installed. How can uninstall Classic 9 from my hard drive and only stay with OS X? Also, by doing this will it free up hard drive space?

How can uninstall Classic 9 from my hard drive and only stay with OS X?
Do you ever use any classic applications? If so you don't want to delete OS 9.
Otherwise... you can delete the "System Folder" directory (NOT "System" directory) and the "Applications (Mac OS 9)" directory.
Also, by doing this will it free up hard drive space?
Not much.

You will need to erase the hard drive and restore your previous OS X backup. If you have no backup then you can reinstall a previous version of OS X. if you have a 2011 or later model check that it meets: Computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery. Then you can do the following:
Install OS X Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.
If you have a model that pre-dates this that can do the above, then:
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • Uninstall mac classic

is there a way to uninstall mac classic (OS 9.2.2) to make room since my hard drive is running out of room?
i no longer use programs that require OS9.
    thanks

radiohead62, Welcome to the discussion area!
Sure but OS 9 doesn't take up much room. If you are running out of disk space you will need to back up and remove other things.
Use WhatSize to determine what is using up your disk space. Then determine if you can back up and remove the big files.

  • How to uninstall Mac Keeper

Something is causing my computer to run very slow. I believe it is Mac Keeper. Does anyone know how to completely uninstall Mac Keeper?

Those are from Safari as malware ads. Having deleted all that stuff be sure you restart the computer to complete the removal process.
    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Problems
If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide, AdwareMedic, or Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac - Apple Support.
Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.
The following comes from user stevejobsfan0123. I have made minor changes to adapt to this presentation.
Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
    Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
    Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.
If you have overlooked any files that still need to be removed, the see the following:
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
        1. AppZapper
        2. AppDelete
        3. Automaton
        4. Hazel
        5. AppCleaner

  • CS2 uninstall, mac desktop screen acting like photoshop image

Recently my creative suite on my mac stopped updating showing an error, so each time now when updates arrive I cannot update. Now my 20" intel macs desktop image acts like a photoshop image?
The desktop starts up and then expands beyond the screen, by nearly 2", when the cursor is moved accross the screen the desktop image moves too, it is making its way to see the unseen edge which appears as cursor moves towards that edge, (eg from centre move cursor to right screen image moves left). This is quite a sea-sick effect. Also if you click and drag on the desktop it forms a box, like the one in photoshop. Something seems corrupted. I want to uninstall the creative suite then reinstall (this should help the updates) but I do not know if the screen on my mac will correct.
I looked up how to uninstall and the first thing is to double click on the Activity Monitor in Utilities and select AHCRemind.
I double click on the Activity Monitor and the window I get up does not show AHCRemind? I cannot proceed. Can anyone help, has anyone had the same problem with the desktop?

I have managed to cure the screen moving but I still need to uninstall CS2 (creative suite 2) and reinstall. I have an intel mac 10.4 os running tiger. As I said before I cannot find the 1st step on the instruction, perhaps the instruction is pre tiger, or Leopard system? Please help.

  • Uninstalling Mac OS X Leopard Server or Reinstalling Mac OS X Leopard

I've no longer got any need for a server and would like to uninstall it or install Mac OS X Leopard (not Server) over it. Is there any way to do this retaining as much as possible that's unrelated to the server, also without using an external HD. Thanks in advanced.

    Hi
Insert the Leopard Installer Disk for Client OS and at the Installer Stage select the hard drive and select Archive & Install. It's your choice if you decide to Preserve Network Users and Settings. If you don't want to preserve any previous users then simply select Archive & Install.
On successful restart everything including previous users' home folders should be placed in a folder marked Previous Systems. There should be nothing left on the active Client OS that has anything to do with the previous Server OS.
Preserving Network Users and Settings will retain the previous System Admin User account as well as the Network Settings.
I have used the Client OS before in the past to reinstall a clean system on a failing or problematic Server. This allows no wiping of the drive as well as preserving possibly important data. Server OS can then be used to 'upgrade' the client OS. I would recommend a wipe and an install for Server OS although the method described can be useful if you're short of options.

  • PSE 8 Uninstall (Mac) does nothing

    Hello,
When I try to uninstall Photoshop Elements 8 on my Mac, I get a window asking for my password.  I enter the password, the window disappears, and that's it.  No uninstall, nothing.  I tried reinstalling the program to hopefully recover any missing components, but it can't get past the system profile check.  Any thoughts?
    Thanks

  • I need to uninstall Mac OS X software

    Hi there,
I am a newbie with regards to using Apple Mac computers and I need some help with an issue I have.
I recently purchased an older model Apple Mac computer and also received the installation disks for the operating system. I thought I had to install the operating system but I now realise that a more up to date operating system had already been installed onto the computer so the version I have installed which is an older version is creating problems on the computer and so I would like to know how I can find this software and check to see if its the older version and then delete it so that I have the more up to date operating software running on the computer which I believe is OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.
I need instructions how to find the older version of the operating system which would be the very last one installed on the computer so that I can uninstall it.
I also need step by step instructions of how to uninstall this software too.
    Many thanks.

You cannot do as you have described. You must erase the drive and install Snow Leopard from the DVD you have. Thereafter you can obtain a later version of OS X to install depending upon what your computer can accommodate.
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Lion, or Mountain Lion installed. Purchase and download Mavericks (Free) from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
         OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • How to uninstall mac os server

i tried to delete my mac server cause i cannot make groups on the server... but when i delete the server.app and install the server app nothing happen, there are the same information at the server... please help me

    Hi
Its been some time since I and probably most of the guys on these forums have used 10.2 but I think the procedure is the same for when you uninstall any client OS.
Boot from your 10.2 Installer disk, proceed to the part that selects the drive, select Options, select Archive and Install. You should get a further option to either preserve network users and settings or not.
If you preserve Network users and Settings after the reinstall and on successful log in you should see a folder created called Previous Systems. It should be safe to delete this. If you don't preserve network users and settings then on reboot the mac will present you with the Client Setup Assistant and walk you through initially configuring the mac for first use. It should remind you of the first time you purchased the mac and took it out of its box. You should still see the Previous Systems folder but this time don't be tempted to delete it. Within this folder will be the previous admin account's home folder. This folder will retain things like mail, mail settings and other important settings that you may need. Also anything else saving in your Documents folder as well as the Desktop will be there not forgetting iTunes, iMovie and iPhoto stuff.
When the operating system is OS X Server the situation is slightly different. You don't get the option to archive and install. It will either upgrade an existing version of the OS, either client or server, install for the first time, or erase and install.
    Hope this helps, Tony

Longtime Windows user, Mac newbie. After successfully installing Mac Reader 9, I tried to uninstall v8 by deleting stuff...then, realizing I'd broken the Safari plug-in, tried to fix it by reinstalling 9. Now, 9 works fine, but I have two copies and still some folders with v8 stuff. Is there an easy & safe way to either remove extras...or should I uninstall everything and start with a fresh install?
    iMac, 10.5.4

I think you can safely delete any folder with version 8 in them. If you
have two folders of version 9, then I'd recommend deleting the first one
you installed. If things are broken, install a new version of 9 in the
same folder as the older one.
