Uninstalling only Quicktime not iTunes

First, I installed iTunes with Quicktime. Can I only uninstall Quicktime and not uninstall iTunes. If not, how can I back up my songs and videos on iTunes and put them back?

QuickTime is required for itunes to run.
are you having a problem with your QuickTime and/or itunes, Yoloni? could you describe your symptoms, please?

  • Flash crashed continued to crash so I uninstall only to not be able to reinstall

Hey there yesterday i began to get problems with flash after installing Java although the two didn't seem to affect each other it may of just been coincidence, also i don't know if it has anything to do with it but just before the problems started occurring my google mail told me someone from china had tried to log in to my account. Anyway so i was getting the usual flash player has crashed send crash report thing so i tried to update flash but when i tried to run the .exe nothing happened so i ran as administrator i got asked to allow for adobe to make changes on the hard drive as usual but then nothing. So after more research i found i should try flash 10.3 i think so i did and still the .exe doesn't run it asks to make changes as if it is going to but doesn't. Any help on this would be much appreciated as i am close to uninstalling and reinstalling all browsers but i can't see that helping as it is the .exe not running. A few extra details google chrome just won't load pages full stop this also started yesterday and i have norton 360 antivirus so i would of thought i would be nicely protected. Oh well Thanks in advance for any reply Jake

Just to add i am trying to run a full scan with norton and it is sitting there saying it has so far scanned 0 files

  • Cannot Install or completely remove Quicktime OR iTunes!

I have been trying for MONTHS to figure this out. OK I had Quicktime and iTunes before. However I uninstalled iTunes because I lost my ipod. Quicktime continued to work excellent. HOWEVER I just bought the new iPod 4g and tried installing iTunes again but it gave me this error message everytime I try to reinstall iTunes or (Quicktime with iTunes) after I Uninstalled ALL Quicktime and iTunes from my comp.
*"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."*
I contacted microsoft and they said its a third part application problem and they couldnt help so now Im back running in circles trying to find out what is goin on.
I deleted and uninstalled everything that had to do with iTunes and Quicktime. However there is one file that I can find of Quicktime that is left and thats in C:, Program Files in Quicktime that will not delete, even when I am logged on as administrator and this file is:
    "nsIQTScriptablePlugin.xpt"
I dont know if that file even has anything to do with whats going on but its the only file left of those two programs. Is it my computer maybe? Because I have NO other issues installing or uninstalling any other programs.
I have tried everything so please can someone point me in the right direction?! Otherwise Im about ready to take it to a pro just to get Quicktime to work again. I really dont give a **** bout iTunes anymore UGHHH!!! Apple is becoming a real hassle!

    "nsIQTScriptablePlugin.xpt"
What error message do you get when you try to delete that file, Rake? (Precise text, please.)
Are you running XP, Vista or 7 on that PC?

  • "open with" arguement between quicktime and itunes

When I first got my Mac I changed the default app to open music CD's (AIFF) from iTunes to Quicktime (because I wanted an app that would open quickly and use as little desktop real estate as possible). Now I want to change it back to iTunes. I performed the "get info" steps to change the "open with" setting, but it does not stick. At least not properly. An inserted CD will now make iTunes open and begin playing the music, but Quicktime will also open, show a QT player, then suddenly show a new small window which says "switching," then the player goes away and a larger QT browser type window appears promoting music, movies etc.
How do I get QT to stop opening along with iTunes?
I have checked all the MIME settings in QT.
    Thanks,
    Warren

I just tested it again (since my test last night) and it's worse. An AIF/AIFF will open with iTunes on the hard drive, but a CD inserted will now only open Quicktime (Not iTunes).
When I try changing the "open with" setting, I am faced with a dialog which reads: you dont have priveledges to change the application for this document only. Do you want to change all your quicktime player.app documents to open with the application itunes.app? CANCEL > CONTINUE.
I tried hitting both cancel and continue with no luck. I also logged in as administrator and tried to change the setting.
I migrated to Mac thinking life would be simpler!? ;->

  • I cannot update  iTunes because when I run the Apple Software Updater, it says "'iTunes   QuickTime' has an invalid signature. It will not be installed." If I try downloading only it says "'iTunes cannot update.  Invalid signature.

I cannot update  iTunes because when I run the Apple Software Updater, it says "'iTunes + QuickTime' has an invalid signature. It will not be installed." If I try downloading only it says "'iTunes cannot update.  Invalid signature.  Can someone help?

This forum is for questions from those managing sites on iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store. You'll be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the general iTunes for Windows forums.

  • After downloading latest quicktime update, itunes store will not load

Has anyone had this same problem after downloading latest quicktime update. iTunes store will not load.

This happened to me today as well post installing the latest version of itunes.   I did a search on google for the error and came across a recommendation to :
Note: Start Windows in Safe Mode to complete any of the following steps if you're unable to access Windows normally due to the msvcr80.dll error.
If, and only if, you're receiving the msvcr80.dll is missing error when you open Apple iTunes, do the following: (skip this step if your msvcr80.dll error is occurring with a different program)
Uninstall from Windows the following five programs in this order: iTunes, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour, and finally Apple Application Support. If you have iCloud, remove it as well.
Uninstalling these programs in Windows is done from an applet in Control Panel called Programs & Features (in Windows 8, 7, or Vista) or Add or Remove Programs (in Windows XP).
Note: Songs and playlists in iTunes will not be removed when you uninstall the iTunes program or any of the other, already-mentioned Apple programs. If you'd still like to back them up, they're usually located in the My Music folder in Windows.
Download the latest version of iTunes from Appleand note the location you're saving it to so you can find it once it's done.
Run the iTunes installation as an administrator. If you're not sure how to do that, see How Do I Open an Elevated Command Prompt? for help. That procedure shows you how to open the Command Prompt program as an administrator, but the steps are essentially the same for anything, including the iTunes installation package you just downloaded.
A general overview of removing and reinstalling iTunes can also be found here on Apple's site but the above procedure seems to work better in this particular situation.

  • Quicktime only works with iTunes - Please help!!!

if I have iTunes installed on my computer with the quicktime, quicktime will not work when viewing videos that are sent to me via email or on places like myspace. It is just a white screen with a Q and a ? mark. What is causing this problem? In order to view those videos I have to uninstall quicktime and then to listent to my iTunes I have to reinstall it.

Ok I've followed countless random post instructions, uninstalled and reinstalled both iTunes and Quicktime multiple times, cleaned the registry, temp files, documents and settings, program files, etc. and Quicktime 7 still crashes. What in the **** is the deal here? I have to believe that this is a problem with a straightforward solution. Quicktime used to work fine. There are only two possible problems here:
    1) Some remnant of an old Quicktime install is screwing me up. This should not be this hard to rectify, there are a finite number of places Quicktime puts files. Is there any folder I haven't checked?
    2) Some odd glitch allowed me to successfully run QT7 before but now, for whatever reason, my setup has changed in some way I'm not noticing and its now no longer working. In this case there still must be some solution since the problem is very specific: Works with directx disabled, doesn't with directx enabled.
I sincerely appreciate these forums and everyone who takes the time to read them and help users like me. Still, am I missing some place where I can get a solid official answer from Apple on this? I paid for pro, and that doesn't even get me a support email address?

  • ITunes crashes when trying to access the iTunes Store -- Quick Time is installed but diagnostic says "QuickTime not available"

I'm getting a Windows error and iTunes crashes any time I try to access the iTunes store.  I'm not sure if this may be related, but when I run a connectivity diagnostic, system info shows:
Microsoft Windows 7 x64 Home Premium Edition Service Pack 1 (Build 7601)
    Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. EX58-UD3R
    iTunes 10.5.0.142
    QuickTime not available
I have QuckTime 7.7.1 (1680.42) installed and it works without trouble.  Is the fact that iTunes doesn't recognize my install possibly related to the crashes?  I have uninstalled and reinstalled both programs a couple times.

Well, as far as I can see, no one has responded to this question. Nor do I see any solutions mentioned in other questions by folks having the same problem. So I can only assume that there IS no fix.
Oh well, I know that one user is just "small potatoes" as far as the iTunes Store is concerned, but they've just lost this frequent little revenue stream - their loss, Amazon's gain.
Good-bye iTunes store - it was fun while it lasted...

  • Upgrade of our 10.4.11 laptop to 10.5 is accomplished and we now need to upgrade Quicktime and iTunes; however, the user name and password is now not working after the upgrade to 10.5.

Object is to sync address and calendar between laptop with Max OS 10.4.11 and iPhone. Upgrade of our 10.4.11 laptop to 10.5 is accomplished and we now need to upgrade Quicktime and iTunes; however, the user name and password for the laptop is now not working after the upgrade to 10.5., though it was working prior to the upgrade, for file sharing.

@ BDAqua > I tried your suggestion but no luck. holding opt+command just gave me a blue screen and it rebotted, pushing the disk out of the drive. Yes, the macbook has 1 gb of ram. I realize that the min req. call for 2 gb of ram so i've got an order in for another dimm to put into the machine. Thanks for your suggestions.
@ a_brody > Yes. The machine was plugged into a power source. The disk promts you to do that and i recall aspect this form other installs. Thanks for the reminder tho! ( btw your second post is like greek to me man!)
@ Kuncklesmac > You're right about Snow Leopard being an upgrade from Leopard. I'm aware of this. And yes previously i've been told by Apple that I needed the Box Set (not the family pack.  i am using the family pack for OS Snow Leopard) to upgrade my 10.4.11 mac - they never mentioned adding ram but i figured that out on my own and an apple specialist recommended it when i purchased Snow Leopard and confirmed that I coul duse the Snow Leopard to upgarde from Tiger (10.4.11). I've also read extensively (as i said above) that it isn't necessary (always) to buy the box set. Several 10.4.11 users report having upgraded using the Snow Leopard upgrade disk only (not the Box Set) without trouble on intel macs (also see the apple link i posted). So i'm just ondering how they did it and i cannot.
    Thanks fo rall yor help!

Can anyone help me? The iTunes update corrupted my program. I uninstalled, and then reinstalled iTunes; only to find an error message about iTunes Helper. After several fruitless, repeat attempts, I am at a loss. Please help…

    Many thanks.
With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR suitable for your PC (there's a 32-bit Windows version and a 64-bit Windows version):
    http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Error Message:  Apple Application Support was not found and is required to run iTunes.  Uninstall and then install iTunes again.   I did 3 times

I just tried to install iTunes on my new HP Envy w/Windows 8.   The error message above is what I get when I try to open it.   The installation seems complete.  It will just not open.   I uninstalled and reinstalled three times.

  • I can't Start, Uninstall or Install new iTunes. I'm getting the same error message: Window Installer Service could not be accessed.  No other programs have similar problem. Any suggestion what can be done?

I can't Start, Uninstall of Install new iTunes. I'm getting the same error message: "Window Installer Service could not be accessed". No other programs having similar problem. Any suggestions how to fix it?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) (not for XP) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • Quicktime not installed error message upon installation of Itunes

    HI,
I have Quicktime already installed (7.7 1680.34) and I have Itunes (10.4.0.80).  Now when I seek to update to the latest Itunes I receive an error message saying 'Quicktime not installed' and then it stops the installation.  Same thing happens after reinstallation of Quicktime.  -What to do now?
    //J Sundberg

Try removing QuickTime from Control Panel before installing iTunes 10.4.1.
Check out this Apple document, if you need a walkthrough of uninstalling from Control Panel -> Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
Make sure you read the detailed steps, if you run in to a problem.

  • Quicktime  and Itunes will not launch!

Both quicktime and itunes come up with errors whenever I try to lauch them. I have tried nearly EVERYTHING and they will not start! This is quicktime error-
Quicktime Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Error signature is BEX

Interesting. In that case, the errors are probably being caused by the absence of the two files I mentioned earlier. Haven't seen one of those for a while.
We'd better swap out your existing QuickTime. We'll take a few additional explicit precautions along the way, just in case.
First, download and save a fresh copy of the QuickTime installer (QuickTimeInstaller.exe) to your hard drive. (Don't run the install online, and don't start the install from the downloaded installer just yet. Use the download option that doesn't mention iTunes.)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
Now head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel. Uninstall QuickTime.
Next we'll clear away any leftover QuickTime program files or folders.
In "My Computer" open "Local Disk C:" or whichever drive your program files are installed on.
    Open the "Program files" folder.
Right-click on the "QuickTime" folder (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
Empty your recycle bin and restart the PC.
After the PC restarts, do not open any applications. Disconnect from your network and/or the internet. Now switch off all your security software (firewall, antivirus, antispyware).
Now start the reinstall by doubleclicking the QuickTimeInstaller.exe file you downloaded earlier.
Reenable all security software prior to reconnecting to your network and/or the internet.
Did the QuickTime install seem to go through properly? If so, are iTunes and QuickTime launching for you now?

  • Quicktime works itunes will not load

i get this message (this action only works for products that are currently installed.)

i get this message (this action only works for products that are currently installed.)
with that one, let's try the following procedure.
first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC.
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
next, use the the following document as a guide for manual removal of leftover itunes and quicktime program files:
Removing iTunes and QuickTime for Windows
now try another itunes install. does it go through properly this time? if so, does it launch properly?
