Uninstalling Printer Drivers

I just bought a Mac Book Pro with Retina display.  I installed printer drivers, and now I want to uninstall them.  I can see the icons for the printer drivers but I don't know how to uninstall them.  Can someone guide me through this?  This is my first Mac.  Thank you!!!

Go to settings, then printers and scanners, and select the printer and then the minus sign
verify that the lock is unlocked so you can make changes it will ask you for you log in password

  • How to uninstall print drivers Canon MF4150 issues

Hello all, I am having a nightmare of a time getting my Canon MF4150 to print. It looks from all of the threads on here it was a less than ideal choice for a Mac owner.
When I first bought the unit I managed to get it to print, everything seemed peachy.
Problems arose when I wanted to use the unit to scan. I downloaded a variety of third party software and drivers in an attempt to get the scan function working. I had mixed results, and this process seemed to upset the printing side of things. Once I scanned a document, the printer would then not work.
I abandoned the idea of scanning through the MF4150 and have gone back to dedicated Epson scanner.
Since then I have not had any luck getting the printer to print again.
I have gone through all the MF4150 related threads on these boards I can find, and followed the process to installed outlined here - https://discussions.apple.com/message/7657893#7657893 but to no avail.
I really just want this thing to print and it's driving me nuts.
I have the printer attached directly to my MacBook Pro running 10.5.2. I'm not trying to print through the Airport.
I would like to know how to completely uninstall any UFR II drivers and related software / information and start this process from the beginning again.
So far, using the answer provided by PAHU here https://discussions.apple.com/message/7657893#7657893
    I have -
    1. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax
    > DONE
    2. Select the MF4150 printer and press the minus " - " button to remove the printer. Do the same to any other printers that are in the printer list.
    > DONE
    3. Hold down the Control key and click in the empty printer list. A window showing 'Reset printing system' will display. Click this.
    > DONE
    4. Close the Print & Fax utility.
    > DONE
    5. Run the Canon UFR2 v1.70 installer and select Uninstall when the Easy Install menu appears
    > This is where I get snagged. I'm not offered a Uninstall option. I have attached a screen grab of the window I am presented with. I am currently trying the "o1141enx_m_ufr224" version of the UFR driver. I have continued to complete the points below regardless of the fact i cannot uninstall.
    6. Restart the Mac and run the v1.70 installer again to add the UFR2 files back onto your Mac
    7. Go to Applications > Utilities and open Disk Utility. Select the Mac OS X partition in the left pane and select 'Repair Disk Permissions'. When this has completed, quit Disk Utility
    8. Open Print & Fax and add the MF4270 again
    9. Open TextEdit, type some simple text and select to print.
    10. Report back if the above doesn't get you printing.
I have also attach a screen grab of the process I go through when adding the printer.
Any help with this would be amazing. I've tried everything I can think of.
My latest idea is to try and remove any trace of previous printer drivers and go from there. You can see in my list of available drivers in the file attached I now have all sorts of UFR drivers in the list.
Again, if anyone can throw me a line on this that would be great.
    Thanks & Regards
    Coz

    Hello Coz,
It's been a while since you've posted, I hope you have not given up.  I was having grief with my MF4150 as well, but got it working.  There is a more current driver - search for Mac_UFRII_V230_uk_EN and install it.
Then, when you go to add your printer through System Preferences > Print & Fax, make sure you click the "default" icon in the top of the dialog.  It should show your Canon MF 4100 series , then use the bottom drop down menu to choose your driver and select Canno MF410 Series UFRII LT (UK) from the list.

  • How do I uninstall print drivers that do not work?

I've downloaded the HP drivers for 10.6 from here
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/HPPrinter_Drivers_for_Mac_OS_X_v106
However, I am still unable to get my HP PSC 1400 to print via the Time Capsule. Since the driver package ended up being +500 MB, is there any way that I can uninstall these drivers to regain that space?

So the printer drivers for the PSC1400 series unfortunately did not make it onto the DVD. They will be available through a software update at some point in the future. You should able to install the 10.5 solution to get basic functionality working again. As for deleting the files, yes there is a way, but it still leaves some of the files laying around so software update won't work.
If you want the space though, most of the files are in /Library/Printers/hp. That being said the software update to provide printing support will probably put most of them back.
    Just trying to help.

  • OK to delete boms for uninstalled printer drivers in /Library/Receipts?

I've trashed a bunch of unnecessary printer drivers from /Library/Printers. Can I trash their related Receipts in /Library/Receipts/boms? Together they are using quite a few MBs. They all start with com.apple.
Another quick question: A 3rd party app called DockDoctor installed a number of Receipts in the same location at boms. I've uninstalled the app, but would like to know if it's OK to trash their Receipts located there. If I do, could that cause some sort of conflict (permissions?) with the a.receiptdb (inside the db folder) which I noticed was changed at the time I installed the app? Thanks

You can delete items from the receipts folder if you really really want to, but I wouldn't recommend it.
    - It shouldn't cause problems if the item is definitely removed.
    - It could cause problems if the item isn't removed.
In any case, for most people the risk outweighs the benefit. If you're really short on hard drive space, I'd recommend other strategies. It's also generally a good idea to stay out of the /Library folder.

  • How to uninstall printer drivers

I have a 64Gb MacBook Air and installed the printer drivers for an HP printer.  Within a few hours of using the printer, three major faults occurred, so I returned the printer and got my money back.  I'm going to buy a Canon printer now but first I want to remove the HP printer drivers and all references to it.
    I'm using OS 10.7.5.
None of the information I've picked up through the communities works for me becasue they refer to menu options that don't exist on this machine.
    Any help gratefully received.
    Thanks.
    G.

Thanks very much mende1.  I followed your very clear instructions and it worked - all the HP references are now consigned to the dustbin.  Just a shame HP don't consign their model HP2050 to the dustbin!

  • Uninstall Printer Drivers, Additional Fonts, Language Translations?

I just did an Archive and Install of 10.4 from 10.3.9, ran the combo updater to 10.4.3, and then upgraded to 10.4.4, but my only partly-caffeinated bad self installed all the extras Printer Drivers, Additional Fonts, and Language Translations when I did the original A and I of 10.4.
I neither want nor need all these extras. How should I go about rectifying this situation?
    Thanks!
    Dual 2 GHz G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   6.5 GB RAM

You can also disable fonts using Font Book (in the /Applications folder). But be careful, as disabling the wrong fonts can cause problems with various applications. Such problems include programs unexpectedly quitting as soon as they are launched.
Note: I have had no problems disabling all of the Asian character fonts.

  • How can I uninstall Xerox print drivers and then reinstall them again

Somehow I installed the wrong print drivers for our xerox printers running on the latest version of leopard and installing the correct driver doesn't seem to solve the problem. I want to remove all xerox driver files and reinstall the correct version of the driver.

    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Most applications create preference files which are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can located them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.
There are also several shareware utilities that can uninstall applications:
    AppZapper
    CleanApp
    Yank
    SuperPop
    Uninstaller
    Spring Cleaning
Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
For more information visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on removing software.

  • How can I uninstall / remove HP printer drivers and software?

    Hi,
I tried using the HP uninstall program to remove the HP printer drivers and related software, but I still see them in my hard drive. I see HP files in my Library/Preferences and Library/Printers folder. I will remove them by hand. Are there other HP files I should remove?
    Thanks,
    Ken

    Hi Ken!
I have a HP printer as well, and these are the items that are on my HD.
    HD > Applications: Hewlett-Packard Folder
HD > Users > Your Account > Library > Preferences:
    com.apple.print.PrinterProxy.Your HP Printer.plist File
    com.apple.print.PrintCenter.plist File
    com.hp.printerutility.plist File
    hp inkjet utility prefs File
    com.hp.Device.Manager.plist File
    com.hp.Photosmart.Studio.plist File
    com.hp.scanpro.prefs File
    com.hp.scanpro.plist File
    com.hp.photosmart.scandestinations.plist File
    Hewlett-Packard Preferences Folder
    com.hp.printerselector.plist File
    com.apple.print.custompresets.plist File
In the above Preferences folder, look for any other files or folders related to your printer as well.
HD > Library > Printers: hp Folder
But I also have HP camera software installed, so you may not have all of these.

    I have a Toshiba; running Windows 8:
My laptop wasn't recognizing my HP Photosmart C309g Scanner for some reason. Although I could print, I need the scanner, so I decided to uninstall/reinstall everything.
Perhaps I uninstalled the wrong feature first, but whatever happened, my laptop had a hiccup & windows wouldn't load.  I used the onboard problem solving feature and windows did reload.
I returned to my efforts to reinstall the printer drivers (using the CD), but when the Setup window appears,  the Install option doesn't appear.  I only have the option to Exit the software setup window.
Does this mean there are still remnants of the previous installation?  In the Programs and Features list, there are remants (HP Cust Part Program; HP Imaging Device Functions; and HP Solution Ctr, all of which were installed at the same time as the printer driver.   Nothing happens when I right click to uninstall or double click on it to uninstall.
    Any suggestions?  Thank you!

I have exactly the same problem - Whenever I go to Print, the print widow appears, it thinks about it for a bit (rotating symbol) and then quits.

  • SOLUTION: Get Win 7 Printer Drivers/HP Solution Center to Work on Windows 8

Took me some time to figure it out, but I got it to work.
    First of all, the preliminaries:
I have an HP dv9700t laptop running the 64-bit version of Windows 8 Pro RTM (not the preview, but I assume it will work on Preview as well).  My printer is an HP Photosmart C7280.  If you have a different printer, it is possible that something similar to how I solved my problem will help you, especially by running your installation files in Windows 7 Compatibility Mode.
Windows 8 does come with stock C7280 printer drivers that work by going into Control Panel>Devices and Printers>Add A Printer, but there's only limited functionality with those.  As such, I wanted to run the HP installation files to have increased functionality.
Unfortunately, when I ran the full installation file from HP for my printer, there was no "Install a Printer" button, or any of the other usual buttons.  There was only an "Exit" button.
Here's how to get it to run and install properly.
Right-click on the HP Full Installation file, then Properties>Compatibility>then check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:", then select "Windows 7" in the dropdown box, then Click "OK".
Run the installation file as you normally would in Windows 7.
I tried this two ways.....the first while connected via USB cable.  It worked just fine with no errors.
I also tried it with the printer connected to my network via WiFi.  Ran into some problems.
The installation program would detect my printer just fine, and I clicked "Next" or "OK" or whatever the prompt was to install the printer.  The installation would hang on "Reply from SNMP" (or something similar) and it would list the IP address of my printer.  I waited, waited, waited for an hour, and it wouldn't get past this.  Not to worry.
Proceed with normal installation until you get to the "Reply from SNMP" message and the installation stops responding.
Enter the Task Manager with CTRL-ALT-DEL.  You'll see an entry in the "Apps" for the HP installation program....LEAVE THIS ALONE.
Below the "Apps" list you will see the "Background Processes" list.  In this list is something along the lines of "HP Network UI", or something similar, consuming a significant amount of CPU.  Highlight this entry, then click, "End Task" at the bottom.
The "SNMP" window will close and your installation program will then finish normally and your printer/fax/scanner will be properly installed.  HP Solution Center works normally, as does printing, scanning, etc.
Will the next person who uses this give some feedback and also answer some questions for me so I can update this post with more specific information?
Please let me know what the exact "SNMP" message is when the installation hangs.  Please also let me know the exact name of the "HP Network UI" background process is, as well as the HP Installation app name.
    Hopefully this will help you.
    This question was solved.

thanks for the solution. I have an HP Photosmart D110a wireless printer. Windows 8 installed a generic printer driver that worked fine for printing but I lost all functionality to the scanner of the device.
I tried to follow your instructions. I do get an error at some point when the software installer tries to talk to the printer and it gives an error message. It finds the printer OK but stalls. The error message is different and merely reports that there is a problem, no further details. There is indeed a background task "HP Network UI" or similar but ending this task doesn't do anything on my system. The Network UI task ends and the error message stays open. I ended a couple more background tasks but it would not go anywhere.
I then uninstalled the entire package, unplugged the printer, turned its wireless feature off and reinstalled the software in Windows 7 compatibility mode. When it asked to plug in the printer to the USB it finds it right away, the installation continues and is almost finished when it stalls again. This time it reports that it has a problem again and needs to uninstall. Still with the error message and installer open I open the installed "Solution Center" and I can find the printer fine (it actually lists two devices, one being grayed out). It initially gave me an error message when I tried to scan something, but ignored the error. Eventually the scanner worked as intended. I force ended all installer tasks in the task manager and the Solution Center works fine and does all tasks it did under Windows 7, now in Windows 8.
    thanks again for the post

    Hi Everybody,
I use an Epson Stylus Office BX320FW printer with my IMac.  Since upgrading OSX, I have lost the ability to print and scan.  I have downloaded printer drivers from both Epson and Apple.  I am using the printer in wifi mode but can not get it print or scan.  How do I uninstall the Epson software and start all over again?

Not using any mouse pad, I have a very smooth desktop. But I just tried to use a sheet of A4 printing paper, but no result, the problem persisted.
Someone on this forum suggested, that USB3 may interfere with the magic mouse.
I have 2 LaCie HDD's about 70 cm away from the mouse, I use them on Thunderbolt. But in operation or not - the result is the same, the mouse plays up! Just now I was clicking the desktop and the mouse created a new folder!!
    Thanks for the advice, Bee

  • CAUTION! SourceForge, Linux Foundation printer drivers on MacBook Pro Retina

I have installed Gutenprint, USBTB, and HPIJS on my brand new MacBook Pro Retina in an attempt to get it to function with my HP Officejet K80 printer, to no avail.....and now they will not uninstall. To make matters worse, the uninstaller for all of these drivers actually installs another complete set of duplicate drivers on the computer. I now have 6 independent sets of HPIJS drivers on the computer. Further research has revealed that none of these third party drivers are likely to produce any success on OS X 10.8.4 anyway. After installing these drivers and attempting all of the various combinations including adding a usb to parallel adapter (K80 has both usb and parallel ports) with no success, I decided to purchase a new printer (HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus). I now want these drivers off of the computer! All attempts to run the uninstall routines that downloaded with the original drivers have simply installed a duplicate set of drivers (with a .1, .2, .3 etc. extension).
These drivers came from SourceForge.net and The Linux Foundation. I now question whether they are even valid drivers or some sort of bogus software.

I sent a detailed email to SourceForge.net at sfnet_ops as indicated for help on the sourceforge website. They sent a return email that they are only the hosting provider but redirected me to the exact project on sourceforge for help:  http://sourceforge.net/projects/hplip/support.
Unfortunately, this project does not indicate anyway to get help....as stated on that web page "Unfortunately, this project hasn't indicated the best way to get help."
I have also found now that a previous unrelated and installed download is now seems to be missing from my computer though I can not specifically state that it is due to my attempts to use the HPIJS uninstaller.
Is there another way to uninstall these drivers that now amount to junk (and possibly malicious) software?
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
Does Mac have any general uninstallers that will work?

  • Win 8.1 and J4680c All-in-One: Can't reinstall the printer/drivers

I have followed all of the instructions to re-set up my wireless network, uninstall the printer/drivers, and reinstall the printer/drivers (including renaming all of the .dat files as .old), but once it gets to the install wizard, at the Checking System phase, it tells me:
    C:\Users\Patricia\AppData\Local\Temp\7zS41F0\Setup\hpzshlaut...
System cannot find the file specified.
What is this? I cannot get past it to finish reinstalling, so I cannot use any of the functionality of the printer other than printing! Can anyone help??
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Follow the steps below and check if that resolve the issue:
    1. Open Mcafee software, from the Virus and Spyware Protection section click on Schedule and run scans. Click on Real time scanning and then on Turn Off. select till I restart the PC and confirm by clicking the Turn Off button.
Now try reinstalling the HP Software and check if the installation goes as expected.
If the issue persists continue following the next steps below:
    2. Open the run dialog by clicking both the Windows key and the R key on your keyboard. Type %windir% and click on OK.
    3. Type hpoins*.dat into the top search bar, if there are any results rename the extention into old instead of dat. (e.g. hpoins1.old)
    4. Type hpwins*.dat into the top search bar, if there are any results rename the extention into old instead of dat. (e.g. hpwins1.old)
    5. Launch the Run dialog by clicking both the Windows key and the R key on your keyboard. Type MSIEXEC /UNREGISTER into the Run dialog and click on OK.
    6. Launch the Run dialog by clicking both the Windows key and the R key on your keyboard. Type MSIEXEC /REGSERVER into the Run dialog and click on OK.
    7. Run the installation file and check for any difference.
