Uninstalling printer software

Hello,
I am relatively new to the Mac family, so please excuse my newby question.
I had a Canon multi-function device that I had installed on my MBP. The printer/device is terrible so I bought a new printer, but wanted to get rid of all of the Canon software, drivers, references, etc. on the MBP. I was able to delete the printer (from the printer list in System Preferences). I moved all related folders & files that I could find that referenced Canon, to the Trash (then deleted the Trash items), but for some reason the scanner option still appears as a small icon in the top right corner of the display (near the time machine icon, in clock area).
Does anyone know how to thoroughly remove all of the remaining files, drivers, GARBAGE, etc. that is no longer needed? I looked for any available uninstallers that might have come with the Canon software bundle & had no luck locating anything of that nature (I did use Spotlight as well). Maybe I am not looking in the correct places....I am really not sure at this point. I love my Mac, but routine procedures like uninstalling software & drivers seems to be a frustrating process.
Any thoughts or ideas on how to remove this software would be greatly appreciated. I am dreading the thought of having to take the laptop into the Apple store to have a Genius work on it.....but will do have to as the last resort.
Thanks for your help!
SN

Assuming that by "toolbar" you mean "menu bar" (the bar of menus at the very top of the screen), the instructions I gave tell you how to do that.
If the icon is for the Canon IJ Network Scan Utility, your method will not work. (It is a status item, not a menu bar extra.) The utility itself is (was) at path /Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinter/Utilities/Canon IJ Network Scan Utility.app. I think the preference file that controls the appearance of the status item in the menu bar is (was) at path ~/Library/Preferences/jp.co.canon.canonij_network_scanutility.plist.
Unfortunately, I have no idea how to remove the status bar item if you have already removed the bulk of the Canon software. But FWIW, the Canon printer/scanner support that is built into Snow Leopard & the subsequent updates that Software Update will offer for it work perfectly for me, so the problem may have been with Canon's stand-alone installer software, some of which is known to have problems with Snow Leopard.

  • Missing HP Utility (Officejet Pro 8600 Plus); need to reinstall - cannot uninstall printer software

I had to wipe my iMac and resinstall IOS Mavericks (10.9.5).  Printer (Officejet Pro 8600 Plus, 9N11g) is working, but will no longer scan (double-clicking icon results in "original item cannot be found") and the HP utility icon on dock is missing, replaced with a "?."  I located directions to uninstall printer software so I can reinstall... but there is no longer any HP folder or "HP Uninstaller" on my Mac HD.  Neither is there an HP folder within Library/Printers folders.  Spotlight search shows no HP or Hewlett-Packard folders on my hard drive.
I have downloaded an "HPPPrinterDrivers3.0.dmg" and "HP-Injket-SW-OSX-Mavericks_v12.34.37.dmg," one of which I'm hoping will contain updated software/drivers to reinstall the printer and hopefully the HP Utility so I can regain scanning function, but I cannot figure out how to remove the current printer software, and I do not know if those are the currect files to use.  I understand just deleting the printer will not suffice.
Can anyone provide step-by-step instructions on how to remove the software as well as installation (since I am unclear if I have the correct dmg files)?  Thank you.

    Hi,
First I would suggest repairing the disk permissions, then try reinstalling the HP Software.
Follow the steps below to repair the disk permissions:
    1. Open the the Applications folder.
    2. Go to the Utilities folder.
    3. Double-click on Disk Utility.
    4. Select the hard drive containing the boot volume.
    5. Go to the First Aid tab and select Repair Disk Permissions.
Note: This process may take several minutes depending on the Mac and amount of permissions that need to be repaired. The Progress Log will indicate when the process has been completed.
Once you are done, run the HP-Injket-SW-OSX-Mavericks_v12.34.37.dmg file and follow the steps on screen, be sure to select the HP Scan option while installing to get full functionality of the software.
Please try the steps above and let me know the results,
    Shlomi

  • How do I uninstall my Canon all-in-one printer software?

How do I uninstall my Canon all-in-one printer software? I followed the online HELP instructions of moving the apps to TRASH. But I still had lots of files, and one app, that I could not get rid of.

Huh! How simple can it be?
Thank you, very much. I still have a few Canon files and one app remaining. I'll send them to the trash. But, the really annoying scanner icon on the bar at the top of the screen is gone.
    Thanks, again.

  • How do you uninstall software?  I have tried to download printer software that needs to be reinstalled and I cannot proceed until the original version is completely uninstalled.

I have installed printer software that needs to be uninstalled and reinstalled and I keep getting an error message saying that the application is running and needs to be closed before proceeding.  I do not know how to close applications and uninstall software.  Any help????

If its an actual application and appears as an icon in applications then click and hold over the icon and drag it to the trash can. That should uninstall it as far as I know.
If its like the HP printer software then there is an uninstalled icon within the folder.
    Hope it helps.

  • HP Printer Software Installation will not complete

I have an HP Officejet 8500 wireless bought in late 2011.  Never an issue until a recent new printer added to the computer seems to have changed an unknown setting and now printer or computer will not recognize or initiate a wireless print request.  Have tried all firmware updates, software updates, etc.  Printer is perfectly connected to wireless network established by router.  Any wireless print request from my MacBook is met with a "printer offline" description and sits in printer que.  Printer works(ed) fine when connected via USB to MacBook.
Thought to uninstall/reinstall printer software hoping to reachieve initial set up defaults which have been working well prior to addition of new printer to computer.
Uninstalled HP software; result was normal.  Inserted original software CD and tried to re-install software; result was as expected until step 5.  Comments now read Installing HP Scan, Install was successful.  Software has stalled on "5 items remaining" and will not move on to "4 items remaining" as next step.
HP Uninstaller is not yet in HP application file, Attempting to "quit" HP Installer generates a warning window indicating "files could be damaged" which is same window generated when trying to shut down computer using Apple shutdown command. Shutdown ends up being cancelled by HP Installer.
Computer is stuck and I'm stuck and I still don't know if reinstall would have solved original problem.  Hours into troubleshooting... any help available would be appreciated.  MacBook running OS X 10.6.8 all updates complete.  Thanks

Thanks Bob - yes - setup from printer display to wireless network was done originally when printer was new and again today in attempt to reestablish whatever setting might have been accidentally changed.  Printer is "perfectly" connected to wireless network with Excellent signal quality, etc... As is Macbook perfectly connected to wireless network.
Problem now is that when trying to reinstall original HP printer software to computer the installation process has frozen.  I now cannot end the installation process or shut down the computer without potential fear of "damaging files".  I also am concerned that if I power off manually (hard shutdown) that I will not be able to uninstall those HP files that have been installed thus far before the process stalled.

  • Printer Software Installer has stopped working

Product: HP Laser Jet M1005 MFP
    OS: Windows 7, 64-bit
    Notebook ACER , Aspire 5349, Intel Celeron CPU B800 @ 1.50 GHz
(new notebook, old printer - printer worked well on Windows XP)
I downloaded driver ljM1005-HB-pnp-x64-en. Driver had been extracted and setup started.
Installation started and after some initialization (~10 sec) it kept writing:
Preinstalling the driver files...  or Copying files to hard drive...  (switching approx. once per second) after a while (~ 20 sec)
Printer Software Installer has stopped working. Windows tried to find solution but did not find anything.
I TRIED ALREADY EVERYTHING. I used patch for AMD processors (of course, did not work); I have Windows installer up to date; I disabled Internet Explorer 9.0 (I cannot uninstall and iether can I step back to IE 8.0 since notebook is brand new); There is no windows driver preinstalled for this printer and there is no similar driver working.
Driver cannot be installed and printer does not work.
    Please, help.

  • HP Smart Web Printing Software

Is there a version of HP Smart Web Printing Software that will work with Internet Explorer 8.0? I upgraded from Internet Explorer 7.0 to 8.0 (using XP SP2), and my previous HP Web Site Add-On Version 2.15.7.0 was incompatible with IE 8.0, so I tried upgrading to HP Smart Web Printing Version 4.05. First I selected "Install Now" from the HP web site & thought the load was successful, but then I couldn't find it among installed programs on my PC. Then I selected "Download Only" from the web site, and ran the executable from my desktop, but it went into an uninstall mode and froze. I exited the program and selected the executable a 2nd time. It started to load but stopped, saying another install program was still in progress. I exited the program & rebooted the PC. I selected the executable for the 3rd time and the installation appeared to complete successfully. At least the application was listed among installed programs, but it does not appear anywhere on the IE toolbar, and I have not found any way to run the application. Is it even compatible with IE 8.0?

Then today I find an upgrade for smart web printing so it would be compatible with IE 8. I was happy again! But, alas, it will not work! It asked if I wanted to replace the program I already had. I said 'yes'. Then when it tried to install....it UN-installed! I have written to HP twice with NO response! so I did uninstall the program, then downloaded the supposedly 'upgraded' version of smart web printing again. I am unable to find the program anywhere, I only have the 'exe' program. I don't know what to do from here?? I'm ready to go back to IE 6!

  • C++ 2012 package (11.0.50727) & error message during installation printer software

    Hello to you all,
I've recently bought a new laptop for my daughter (a HP Pavilion Touch Smart 11).
When I try to install the software needed for installation for the printer (HP J6410) I get the following error.
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local-\Temp\7zS46SD\Setup\de..
Now, I've already tried pretty much about everything. Even a full factory recovery, installing all of the needed updates, after that upgrading to windows 8.1, installing of the updates for that OS version too, and then trying to install the software again.
No succes, but the more I try, the more I'm convinced the problem might lay in the C++ 2012 redistributable package (version 11.0.50727). This is why.
I've got more laptops here at home. The one I have for my own is a HP 15 Notebook and has Windows 8.1 installed on it as well. Now here's the funny thing.
I managed to install the software on my own laptop (the HP 15, with an Intel processor) but no succes on the laptop for my daughter (the HP 11 TS, with an AMD processor).
When I looked at the installed C++ packages I noticed that the laptop for my daugther has the C++ 2012 package installed, and my own doesn't. So that's why I think the problem must lay there. Also because on this page (http://www.freewarefiles.com/Microsoft-Visual-C-2012-Redistributable-x64_program_78882.html)
it is said that it supports Windows 8 (which was pre-installed on the laptop for my daughter), but Windows 8.1 isn't mentioned.
I would be very thankfull if someone could help me resolving this issue.
(Note: I've tried to get help on the support forum of HP.  More information on how I resolved the issue, in May 2014, on my own laptop, and how it is related to C++, can be found here: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-All-in-One-Install-Setup/Officet-J6410-won-t-install-under-Windows-8-1-64-bit/m-p/3935396#M142540

I most thankfully await your response(s).
    Update (30-9-2014, 23:14):
I've written above that I tried to re-install the printer. With the original CD, and also the software one can download on the HP site (OJ_AIO_J6400_Full_Win_WW_140_408-4.exe). Now, it seemed a good idea do uninstall the software.
Yep, you guess it .. I made my problem worse.
When I tried to uninstall it with the C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\7zS6A01\util\ccc\uninstall.exe I got the following message at reboot. It says you have to click OK to terminate the program, but it doesn't await your response. It's there,
for a glimpse of a moment, and disappears. It said (in Dutch):
'De instructie op .....xe01 verwijst naar geheugen op 0x00000000. Een lees- of schrijfbewerking op het geheugen is mislukt. read
Klik op OK als u het programma wilt beëindigen'.
It looks very similar to the error message here: http://fud.community.services.support.microsoft.com/Fud/FileDownloadHandler.ashx?fid=8d18c288-aeb4-41c0-983f-6798cfa178a0 that I found in this topic: http://answers.microsoft.com/nl-nl/windows/forum/windows8_1-windows_install/windows-81-afsluitfout-explorerexe-0xe06640b9/0c64290f-2e0b-47fc-a38a-adb9ceb5a5ac
Now, after this (that is: the uninstalling op the printer software) I returned to a system recovery point I made before the installation of the HP printer software. So that can not be the problem anymore. However, the error message kept returning.
So I'm pretty much convinced it must have something to do with explorer.exe, the msi-program, compatability-issues and the C++ packages. How to proceed now from here?
Should I uninstall the C++ 2012 package? If so, can I do that safely? Do I need a newer version of the C++ packages? Where can I find it?
Please, help me out? I most thankfully await your answer(s).

  • HP Laserjet 3055 printer "waiting for printer to be available" after HP Printer Software Update 3.0

I have an HP Laserjet 3055 All-in-One Printer. It has been printing just fine from my iMac running OS 10.9.5 (Mavericks) until after the HP Printer Software Update, Version 3.0, that I installed on 1 Oct 2014. Although the 3055 is shown as connected/idle to my iMac via USB, after clicking "PRINT" for a document, the print queue status soon changes from "printing" to "waiting for printer to become available", and the printer never becomes available. I have tried rebooting everything (printer, computer, text software), checking USB cable connections and changing USB ports, deleting and re-adding the 3055 printer (numerous times!) even after resetting the print system, but could there be something inherently wrong with the latest HP driver (version 19.9 for HP Laserjet 3052)? Or is it possible something else is going on?  In other words, I have exhausted all the solutions I've found in these and other forums to no avail.
I have tested this printer by connecting it to my MacBook Pro (also running OX 10.9.5) but without having installed the HP Printer Software Update, Version 3.0. (Hadn't gotten around to this update...) The printer works fine, even though the driver has the same version number--19.9 for HP Laserjet 3052. So could the version 19.9 driver in the latest HP Printer Software Update be corrupted? Is there any way to reinstall that driver? Or copy the 19.9 driver from my MacBook Pro and install it on the iMac? HP only refers to the Apple Software Update process for Mavericks compatible drivers for this printer. Can I manually uninstall the HP driver for the Laserjet 3055 from my iMac and then have the iMac download the driver again in the process of re-setting up the 3055? Any suggestions appreciated.

Many thanks for your suggestions. After creating a bootable back-up, I tried the first suggestion--downloading and re-installing the HP printer driver update kit for which you kindly provided the link--but to no avail. Before downloading the driver update kit, I "reset the printing system", clearing all the installed printers, queues, etc. After re-installing the HP printer drivers, I went to System Preferences>Printers & Scanners to once again add the HP LaserJet 3055 only to discover it was already listed as installed! This I find baffling, to say then least. I tried printing and again got the "waiting for printer to be available" message. I subsequently tried deleting and re-adding the printer, going through the printing system reset again, but still no-go.
I also tried another approach to adding the printer which perhaps will shed some light on the problem. After clicking on the "+" button to add the printer, I select the "HP LaserJet 3055" which shows up as available via USB. Then, instead of using the "HP LaserJet 3052" driver that automatically appears in the "Use" [choose a driver] field, I chose "Auto Select" to see what happens. As the computer processes this request, the status message changes from "Gathering printer information..." to "Waiting for printer to become available..." And, of course, it never becomes available. This strikes me as odd, that the printer set-up system "sees" the printer accurately enough to list it as available to add but can't find it with the "Auto Select" approach to getting the appropriate driver. Of course, when I simply go with the "Use HP LaserJet 3052" driver option that, naturally enough, is the one automatically suggested by the printer set-up system, the printer is "successfully" added. I say "successfully" in quotes because it never becomes "available" to print something.
Before I try your second suggestion--downloading and re-installing the 10.9.5 combo update--I wonder if it's possible that the printing system reset process is "broken". It's as though the reset fails to clear the printer queue, making it appear that there is a pending printing job that the system is waiting to be finished. Also, as noted above, I reset the printing system prior to re-installing the HP printer driver update kit and then, after installation, the HP LaserJet 3055 magically had already been added. This makes me wonder if the printer wasn't properly "cleared" from whatever makes up the printer System Preference process during the reset.
    Any other thoughts?

  • HP downloaded printer software fails to install

Anything that I print (to my HP Photosmart 6520 Printer) on 4x6 photo paper (from my HP computer with 64 bit Windows 7) are printed approx. 1/2 inch off-center.
I downloaded the following update hoping that it would correct the problem.
    HPCOM_292008_HPPS_6520_x64_000_003.exe
The update would not proceed but gave me the following message:
    1. Check that your device is:
     - Connected to your computer (It was)
     - Powered on (It was)
     - Not in an error state (It was not in an error state)
    2. Clear any error states (There were none)
    3. Click Start Again
Any ideas as to why it will not install?

    Hi EvelynMae,
Welcome to the HP Forums! I see that, your HP Photosmart c4380 software is failing to install on Windows 7. I am
happy to help you with this issue! I have a couple of questions for you:
Can you make copies with the printer?
Is the power cable plugged directly into the wall, or a surge protector? Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
In the meantime, I would try uninstalling the software, and then re-installing again, using the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows.
Hope to hear from you, and have a great day!

  • Cannot start HP Printing Software (HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 A910a)

    Hello,
When I doubleclick on the HP Software icon on my desktop strange behavior results. Nothing opens and my computer behaves erratically. After quite a while I get the following error messages:
    instancefinderdlg.exe
    werfault.exe
Then, after this - my computer sort of reboots all by itself. But not a full reboot - it just goes back to the initial logon screen and I re-enter my Windows password, and the desktop shows.
I am running Windows 8.1 Pro (64 bit). The printer is set up to operate wirelessly.
After doubleclicking on the HP Software icon and waiting a long time for the software to open, as I mentioned above, one thing I tried was a ctrl-alt-del and opened Task Manager. I checked the services running and there was multiple instances of an HP service running (I don't recall the name but there seemed to be dozens of the same HP service running).
I also completely uninstalled all HP software using Revo Uninstaller, and then re-installed the complete software / driver package for the OfficeJet Pro 8500 A910a - but this did not make any difference; exactly the same problems ocurred again.
This has only happened in recent days. Prior to this I was able to doubleclick on the HP software icon and the software opened normally and I was able to check settings, ink levels, etc. Interestingly, the printer still seems to function well - I can print from Word, print photos from Lightroom, etc. I just can't open the HP Printer Software from my desktop.

    Hello again,
I tried the first part but it did not work.
However, the second more detailed part (with the 9 steps), appears to have worked! I now can double-click on the HP Printer icon and everthing functions as it used to previously.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you very, very much! You have been very patient with me as a customer and very persistent and determined to find a solution. Over the course of several days you suggested various possible solutions. When something did not work, you did not give up but continued to search for a solution. You really are a very fine example of what customer service should be. You deserve a big raise! Thanks again.

Ralph, Thanks for replying. There where no received SIP messages at all just the INVITE being sent but I have made some more progress. The mini does indeed just work. I can do everything that you are supposed to do to other ichat users on the internet. Very nice.
The imac is still playing up but I have got further. I had peerguardian2 installed which unknown to me doesn't need to be running to prevent you for accessing 'barred' IP addresses. snatmap.mac.com is barred in the lists! I discovered this when I saw one of your other posts showed how to turn on terminal logging for ichat. Now that I have turned off peerguardian2 (using the disable filters option) I can make calls to the testbot and see the adverts. I have even done a video conference with the two testbots. I will just uninstall peerguardian2.
However, I can not get a AV chat working to a real user....
    In response to your suggestions:-
I have tried all the options for quicktime streaming but will try 1.5Mb/s again.
The ichat bandwidth limit is set to "none". I am in New Zealand and I have standard ADSL (not ADSL2+) 7.6M down 512K up. The mini config is also set to none.
    Internet sharing is off.
I have had parallels on the machine but the two interfaces that it installed "Parallels Host-Guest" and "Parallels NAT" are configured 'off' and show as not connected. Is this enough? I will uninstall parallels and see if that helps since I don't use it. I also have VMware's thing installed but that doesn't seem to add any interfaces.
I need to capture a full trace of the imac to other ichat user to see what is happening but will update when I have does your suggested changes or have a trace
    Thanks again

  • Uninstalled printer (would not scan) now Mac cannot find it again

Hello. I am hoping for some help.
In a nutshell, I have a printer that was going on the fritz about a month ago, but I could always get it to connect after a few attempts. Today I uninstalled the software but now my computer cannot find the device AT ALL.
This printer is less than 2 years old. My router is brand new. My MAC printed successfully this morning but could not find the computer to SCAN. The printer could also not find the computer to scan.
I type in the IP address to the new tab and it fails to load (attempted on both Safari and Chrome.) I printed the wireless test network sheet and  it passed with excellent quality.
Is my IP address bad? 192.168.1.134.
    Thanks!

Forgot to mention, I am using airprint and everything is up to date on my computer. I wonder if this started happening after I downloaded OS X Yosemite?

  • Trying to load HP printer software onto Macbook Pro...

Hi all.  I am trying to install HP printer software on my Macbook Pro thats running Windows 7 (I'm booting into Windows from Boot Camp).  During the install process, I keep getting an error message that something is wrong with my USB drivers and USB software.  The exact error messages are as follows:
    1.  "This computer does not have the necessary USB software support to allow completion of a USB installation.  The installation cannot continue until this is resolved."
"Required Action: Click Cancel to exit this software installation.  In order to install this as a USB device, please refer to your computer documentation or USB add-in card documentation for more information about USB drivers."
    AND
    2.  "This computer does not have the necessary USB hardware support enabled to allow completion of a USB installation.  The installation cannot continue until this is resolved."
"Required Action:  Click Cancel to exit this software installation.  In order to install this as a USB device, please refer to your computer documentation or USB add-in card documentation for more information.  If you are sure your computer has the physical USB connectors, refer to documetation about how to enable USB in the BIOS."
HP support suggested I go into device manager and remove all USB drivers.  I tried this with horrible results.  First, I was unable to uninstall most of the USB drivers because my computer would freeze up during the uninstall and I'd have to reboot.  Second, of the drivers I was able to uninstall, I would lose control of stuff like the trackpad and keyboard functionality.  I explained all this to HP support and they said to contact Apple tech support for a proper "USB uninstall flow".  So, here I am seeking dire assistance.  Can anyone help?

HP Printer's software is suspect in relation to Lion (they told me that my HP Photosmart B89100 drivers would be Lion ready by it's release. Well, they probably got overrun by the counting all their leftover TabletOS door-stops, and forgot to make the drivers
Apple installs its own programs under Windows called Apple Software Update. If you go under Programs, you'll find it there. Try it out just to be sure.
