Uninstalling Reader 10.1 on a Mac

Hi All,
I have a new iMAC which is running OS 10.6.8 I wanted to install Adobe Reader so that I could view some information on a website which required the Adobe PDF reader plug in for Safari. I downloaded Adobe Reader 10.1 from Adobe's UK site and ran the installer. All installed (ie.Installer ended and said all was OK) fine but Safari still would not show the website page that required the the plug in. It just says "Missing Plug-in" and when you click on it it says I need Adobe Reader!
I thought that perhaps the plu-in did not install so I installed again with no luck. Then I thought that perhaps I needed to run the Adobe Reader application first for the plug-in to install. Which I did and after the user agreement page the Reader application crashes or quits with info to send to Apple.
After some viewing on the net regarding this issue I see their are possible problems with Reader, my version of the Mac OS 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1 (which I have). However all the info I have seen say that the plug-in will NOT work in Safari 5.1 but you can still get the stand alone version of Adobe Reader to run - which I can't as it keeps quiting/crashing. I have a new install of the Mac OS with very few applications installed.
I really would like to remove everything that might have been installed by Adobe Reader untill a fix is in place. Adobe do not seem to supply an Uninstaller which I think is a really poor show - they do for Flash & Air so why not Reader. Would one of you kind folks tell me how to remove everything that Reader may have installed on my system.
Thanks in advanced
Si

Thank you Michael, I did think about that but from previous experience with Adobe products they seem to leave a lot of files all over the system. I wnated to make sure I had removed everything that Reader X had installed but without removing files that other Adobe products have installed. So if I just trashed it would that get rid of all it installed?
Regards,
Si

After downloading latest Reader software (11) on my Mac (OS10.7.5) I cannot print pdf files on either of my two printers. I suspect corrupt software.  How do I uninstall and reinstall the software?  Adobe's on-line instructions are only for Window devices.

You can just drag the file to the trash. If you want you can remove  the pdf plug-in from the internet-plug in folder, but that should not be necessary to correct your problem.

  • Uninstall Reader 8 on Mac

I can't seem to get rid of "Adobe Digital Editions" and suspect that is why I can't access my library digital ebooks on my newly installed Reader v. 6 (Version 8 which had ADE included won't allow me to transfer the books to my PDA.) I see how to uninstall Reader 8 on WIndows, but not on Mac. I'm assuming there is more to it than just deleting the application. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Installation of Reader cannot cause IPhoto or any other program to
change what format files are stored in. They can change the default
reader of pdf files and change the icons associated with pdf files. But
    thats it.
I believe Reader 8 can just be dragged to the trash. If you want you can
manually delete the Reader plug-in for Safari.

  • How do I uninstall Adobe Digital Editions 3 (for Mac)???

Dear kind, knowledgable Adobe Staff member-
As a user of SEVERAL Adobe products, I am really NOT loving the fact that there is NO CLEAR answer that I can find here (OR even in doing a Google search) for how to completely REMOVE/UNINSTALL Adobe Digital Editions 3 (for Mac)...and there are a couple/few UNanswered Adobe Communities posts (such as this one) asking this SAME question!
If you're going to create an installer for the MacOS platform (which does NOT have the built-in Winblows uninstall "feature"), then PLEASE DO either include a uninstaller tool (either installed during the install process, built into the installer as an option, OR have clear, official, and easily accessible step-by-step instructions on how to do this!
You've lost ANY shot of my returning to ADE software by not having these features...please do help me re-instill some "faith" in your company's responsiveness to the current LACK of support that I am experiencing in attempting to remove this unwanted software from my computer!
    Cordially,
    Albe Sure

I DO very much appreciate the swift effort at attempting to help...but that is NOT a working resolution for me.
    1)  As I was very clear on in my OP and title, I am seeking assistance with uninstalling Adobe Digital Editions 3 (for Mac)...
    2)  BECAUSE Adobe is distributing this software as an "installer", I am not even going to begin to trust simply deleting the Adobe Digital Editions 3 app from my applications folder...no way!  I want to thoroughly remove ALL TRACES of this application (EVERYTHING that was installed by the installer, or later by the application itself, onto my computer.  Simply deleting the app fro my my applications folder will NOT be sufficient to achieve this goal.
    3)  As the name would suggest (and the step-by-step instructions would collaborate, the CC Cleaner Tool is only for Creative Cloud installation and removal problems (and to the very best of my knowledge, Adobe Digital Editions is certainly NOT a CC program.)
"A" for effort, but not so much on providing a relevant/working Adobe Digital Editions 3 (for Mac OS) uninstall/removal suggestion(s)...STILL looking for a working solution!

  • Uninstalling programs or applications from my mac

    Hello, how are you.
I'm a new mac user... and I have a doubt. If anybody knows, please answer me as soon as you read this. Is very important. How can I uninstall programs or applications from my mac?
Somebody talks me that I had to remove the archives from my mac. But, I don't know if "really" I'm uninstalling the program.
    Please... I hope an answer!
    Thank you, very much.

In MacOS X you can delete most applications by simply
dragging their icon to the trash (and ofcourse empty
the trash afterwards). Very few application do have
an uninstall application or offer an uninstall
    feature in the original installer.
Trashing is one way to remove files, but it can, in the case of complicated applications that write to folders outside of their own application folder, not completely remove all the files associated with the application, this can be viewed/ termed as a "dirty uninstall".
For applications check if there is an uninstall option with the installstaller program for the application (in the case of MS Office theirs is a separate utility called "Remove Office" for this sole purpose). If a deinstallation option for the application is not present "dirty deinstallation" can be avoided by using a third-party application to do the job properly (e.g. springcleaning from Allume: http://www.allume.com/mac/springcleaning/ ).

I was able to solve this problem with the inability to uninstall adobe reader 9.1.3 and this program is now uninstalled by viewing control panel > add remove programs.
It happened by luck by using a battery of Microsoft Fix its.  To tune up my computer I ran one fix it after another and then found one that Troubleshoots installation and uninstallition problems.

    What exactly is the error?
And, we'd need some info re. your Mac model and OS version - you are not running iOS on it.
You need to realize that this model has been discontinued and the last driver updates are dated about a year ago. If you are running Mavericks, there may not be an updated driver for it. But you can try to delete the printer and add it again to see if that will work.

  • Installed Acrobat Pro and uninstall Reader does not work defaults back to Reader

I've installed Acrobat Pro, after installing Acrobat Reader.  After I uninstall Reader and click on a PDF file, it automatically opens it in Reader.  I've clicked Acrobat 9 as my preferred software, but next time, it reverts back to opening in Reader.  I'm using a lenovo Yoga laptop with Windows 8.1.

Thank you very much for your reply.  This didn't work.  As you can tell, this is not a high priority for me, just annoying that I have to uninstall Reader every time I open a PDF.  It will open in Acrobat after that, 'til I shut down my laptop.
Here's the order:  I installed Acrobat Reader.  Then I installed Acrobat Pro.  Then I uninstalled Acrobat Reader.  But when I click on a PDF file, it reopens in Acrobat Reader (I don't use Microsoft Reader - at least on purpose!)  Somehow Acrobat Reader is not completely uninstalling and reactivates.  Our computer consultant tried to fix it, but couldn't.   He said he thot some of his research showed this was a problem in Windows 8 and 8.1?
I just tried going into Programs in the Control Panel and Acrobat Pro 9 only shows Uninstall/Change, not Repair.  However, I clicked through and got to Repair.  Tried that (which I've actually done before) and still didn't work.
