Uninstalling reader 9.1.3 failure;  installation failure reader 10.1.1with unable to contact tracker

I would like to update to adobe reader 10.1.1 and when I attempted download/install with Internet Explorer it produced:  unable to contact trackers.  The it opened another web page and produced:
Adobe Reader did not install successfully

When I go to control panel> add remove programs: adobe reader 9.1.3 is 138 MB and when I click on remove it produces:  The patch package could not be opened.  Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package.
1) How do I uninstall adobe reader 9.1.3 with the above problem?
2) I have installed revo unistaller and have not yet learned how to use it.  Is this what I would need to uninstall reader 9.1.3 or is there something that I need to download to then be able to use add remove programs and have it uninstalled?
3) I would like to install the latest version of adobe reader and the download/install produced: unable to contact trackers.  What does this mean and how does it get corrected so that I can download and install the latest version
Currently when I read or download PDF files they are opened properly with Adobe reader.  It is the goal to eliminate the old version and install the new version.
My computer is a dell laptop inspiron 9400 with windows XP home SP3, Intel CPU 2600 @ 1.66 GHz, 2.0 GB RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon 1400
The other Adobe software products that are installed are Adobe AIR, Adobe Flash Player 11 ActiveX, and Adobe Flash Player 11 Plugin
I tired the download/install with another browser (Safari) and it went through initializing, downloading, and installing then Please wait while Windows configures Adobe Reader X (10.1.1) then Gathering required information then Time remaining 0 secs with all blue squares.  Set up need to restart your system do you want to restart now?  I choseno and when I viewed Adobe Reader Installer it had Adobe Reader Installation failed unknown error 96%  Then I chose finish.  It then produced One of the installations requires a reboot.  Do you wish to perform it now.  I will choose yes and have it reboot.
What happened with the attempted intall with Internet Explorer that it failed.  If Adobe Reader X installs with Safari will the PDF files opened with this browser use Adobe Reader X and will the PDF files opened with Internet Explorer use Adobe Reader 9.1.3?  I would like to have just one version of Adobe Reader and not take up the hard drive space.
I will reboot now and see what happens.  Please comment on what to do if the installation fails for Adobe Reader X and please comment on how to uninstall Adobe Reader 9.1.3 too in addition to any other comments about the installation problem.
Thx

I was able to solve this problem with the inability to uninstall adobe reader 9.1.3 and this program is now uninstalled by viewing control panel > add remove programs.
It happened by luck by using a battery of Microsoft Fix its.  To tune up my computer I ran one fix it after another and then found one that Troubleshoots installation and uninstallition problems.

  • Why Doesn't Acrobat X Installer Uninstall Reader X?

    Good morning,
We have a site license for Acrobat X.  We want to deploy to our end users but many of them are already running Reader X.  I have used Adobe Customization Wizard X to create a mst file that says uninstall older versions of Adobe Reader.  In the past (we have had a site license since Acrobat 9) it uninstalled all versions of Reader ( 6.0 up to 9.x at the time).  In Acrobat X it is only uninstalling Reader 9 but not X.  I suspect it is reading Reader "10.x" as older than Reader "6.0".  Depending on how it interprets the numbers, it may show 10 lower than 6 since the first number of 10 is lower than 6.  Anyone have any similar issues?  is this a bug with the installer?  Thanks for any help.

Thank you Ben for the quick reply.
So, I take it that the recommended option would be to have both Acrobat and Reader X on the same computer. Do I need to do anything to ensure that Reader X remains the default PDF viewer?
I believe In the customization wizard for Acrobat, I need to select the option "Installer will decide which product will be the default".

  • Cannot uninstall reader 9.3.2 or install update

The latest update will not install.  When I try to uninstall Acrobat Reader I get this message:  The installation source for this product is not available...  Windows Installer CleanUp Utility is no longer available.  How do I uninstall Reader?  I an running Windows XP SP3

Thanks Walt, I agree with you, the answer from the upside down person
standing on his head was really stupid as well as rude.
I had a similar issue when I wanted to uninstall Microsoft Office 2010,
another Bill Gate's abortion. It took about a week of copying and deleting
over a hundred Registry entries before I could make it go away. The I had to
manually delete all the files too. The instructions to do it this way came
from Microsoft, would you believe. They ought to be doing time for fraud and
selling defective merchandise. I was really reluctant to move to Vista, and
I hate it, but had no choice, that's how my new PC came.
I guess I will have to manually uninstall Adobe Reader, fixing the registry
as I go; then I will install Acrobat 8.0. I have had no trouble with this
    release on my other PC.
As far as who is responsible, it is a lack of cooperation between software
companies and the constant "rush" everything to market before "real" user
    level testing is complete.
    Best regards,
    Peter.

  • Uninstall Reader X - Patch package could not be opened.

I am trying to uninstall Reader X in hopes that when I reinstall it some other issues will clear up.  However, when clicking remove or update in Control Panel, I get the same result.  "This patch package could not be opened...."  Same message I have seen in a host of other postings.
Can I follow the same general instructions for manual uninstall that are in the knowledge base for Reader 8?  Are there any additional steps/registry modifications?  I am running XP/SP3.

You could try using the Windows  Installer Cleanup Utility to remove all traces of any existing versions  of Reader.  This utility is no longer supported by Microsoft because it can conflict with Win 7,  but you  can still find it in sites like http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459

  • Uninstall Reader 8

I am running Adobe Reader 8 on Windows XP. I have tried to load 8.1.3 and get an unsuccessful load response. I need to uninstall Reader 8 and cannot seem to do this. I am technically challenged. I need 8.1.3 for income tax submission purposes and connot use Reader 9 for this.

    > I have tried to load 8.1.3 and get an unsuccessful load response.
Sorry, I don't know what that means. Can you give the exact message that you receive?
    Most likely the
Windows Installer CleanUp Utility may help you. Download, install, and run the utility (Start -> Programs -> Windows Install Clean Up). Select Adobe Reader from the list and click Remove. Now try the installation of Adobe Reader 8.1.3 again.

  • How do I uninstall Reader DC and reinstall a previous Reader version?

I tried the Adobe Reader DC, and find the application's appearance appalling. The icons are ugly, the tool bar on the right border wastes 30% of the viewable area, and I have no intention of using any cloud services. I checked the Adobe support pages for previous versions of Reader. All of the links that say "older versions"  bring me back to the DC installation page.  Where are the other versions of Reader?
    Thanks for the assistance.

Depending on your operating system, you can download Reader X, XI, and DC from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
You need to uninstall Reader before attempting to install and older version.

  • Uninstall Reader 8 on Mac

I can't seem to get rid of "Adobe Digital Editions" and suspect that is why I can't access my library digital ebooks on my newly installed Reader v. 6 (Version 8 which had ADE included won't allow me to transfer the books to my PDA.) I see how to uninstall Reader 8 on WIndows, but not on Mac. I'm assuming there is more to it than just deleting the application. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Installation of Reader cannot cause IPhoto or any other program to
change what format files are stored in. They can change the default
reader of pdf files and change the icons associated with pdf files. But
    thats it.
I believe Reader 8 can just be dragged to the trash. If you want you can
manually delete the Reader plug-in for Safari.

  • When trying to uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support:  The Installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\com.apple.MobileSync.client.resources\ClientDescription50.plist.

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Cannot uninstall Reader 9

I am one of the few people in my company with an Acrobat Professional for Windows license. I need this license to do my job as a tech writer. I am lucky to have this license. We have a freeze on software purchases and upgrades. The only reason I have this license is because the previous user got laid off.
Meanwhile, our desktop support group periodically runs scripts that push various updates, including Reader 9, upon connecting to the network. This hoses up my Acrobat Professional 8 installation every bloody time. I have tried and tried, but I cannot convince these people to change their scripts to check for other versions of Acrobat.
I am unable to completely uninstall Reader 9. It reappears in the Add or Remove Programs dialog box after I reboot.
I need a procedure to manually remove Reader 9 from Windows XP.

what is  Microsoft Installer Cleanup Tool. somehow i got reader 9.1.1 and keep getting hit with need to update to 9.1.2. 9.1.2 will down load but it will not install..
when i go to add/remove and try to remove 9.1.1, i get error saying i do not have a patch to remove and i can not get it to uninstall. my os is xp sp3.

  • Uninstall Reader 9?

I have Reader X and auto updates on Vista.  Is it correct to uninstall Reader 9, & is it easy using Windows uninstall?

To my knowledge Reader X should have removed Reader 9 in the installation process.  If it didn't then something strange has occurred.  I've heard rumor of an uninstaller on the forums that is on Adobe Labs.

  • Installed Acrobat Pro and uninstall Reader does not work defaults back to Reader

I've installed Acrobat Pro, after installing Acrobat Reader.  After I uninstall Reader and click on a PDF file, it automatically opens it in Reader.  I've clicked Acrobat 9 as my preferred software, but next time, it reverts back to opening in Reader.  I'm using a lenovo Yoga laptop with Windows 8.1.

Thank you very much for your reply.  This didn't work.  As you can tell, this is not a high priority for me, just annoying that I have to uninstall Reader every time I open a PDF.  It will open in Acrobat after that, 'til I shut down my laptop.
Here's the order:  I installed Acrobat Reader.  Then I installed Acrobat Pro.  Then I uninstalled Acrobat Reader.  But when I click on a PDF file, it reopens in Acrobat Reader (I don't use Microsoft Reader - at least on purpose!)  Somehow Acrobat Reader is not completely uninstalling and reactivates.  Our computer consultant tried to fix it, but couldn't.   He said he thot some of his research showed this was a problem in Windows 8 and 8.1?
I just tried going into Programs in the Control Panel and Acrobat Pro 9 only shows Uninstall/Change, not Repair.  However, I clicked through and got to Repair.  Tried that (which I've actually done before) and still didn't work.

  • Is there a way to uninstall Reader X through Active Directory?

I ask this because I have 1100 Windows 7 laptops deployed and Adobe Reader X doesn't work when viewing PDF documents through a web browser.  I've read the discussions here that suggest uninstalling Reader X, or using the repair tools to fix the issue, but I can't put my hands on each computer.  I would ultimately like to push an uninstall of Reader X and then an install of Reader 9.4 though AD.  Any thoughts or suggestions??

From what I could see, you have used a GPO methodology for deploying Adobe Reader X across the user systems in the first place.
You could simply unlink the GPO package associated to the respective OU. This would uninstall Reader X from the systems falling in the OU and enable you to reinstall Adobe Reader easily.
Hope this is what you wanted.
