Uninstalling things

I have recently stopped my navigator and I want to get it off my phone.  I have a storm 1 phone and what i'm wondering is since it is similar to a computer in some ways, do I need to uninstall the navigator (and other programs) to get rid of it or just delete it.  And if I do need to uninstall it, how would I do that.
Thanks,
Dena

I want to uninstall Soundtrack Pro for example. I run the installer app and uncheck SoundTrack Pro. Shouldnt this remove it?
Unless an application provides an uninstaller within the package ...nope that's not the way to uninstall Soundtrack pro...or any other application for Mac.
You just drag it into the bin...or use an application that will find the files installed with the app on your system .......and remove them.
Afaik...LP9 and STP share some content ...in case things are missing when you uninstall your way....

  • Why can you uninstall things when they're still running?

I'm aware that apps run in RAM, but what happens if you uninstall an app while it's running and then select an option it that would make it change one of its config files... would it then crash? Or would the file (assuming you have permissions) be rewritten, and left as a remnant when you close the now-deleted program?

Komodo wrote:Because it seems like a fairly major issue that your system undergoes meltdown if something's in use when it's being updated. There really ought to be some sort of check for what's running at the time of update...
Hmm, well, it rarely has the potential to happen - mine wasn't caused by cron, but by a screen status script, and even then it only caused problems because I was running pacman inside screen.  If I had been running pacman in it's own terminal, yes, screen would have crashed, but pacman would not have.
Also, I don't think it's entirely the dev's jobs to prevent users from screwing things up in an update.  I mean, if you want it as safe as possible, we can always go the windows route: "Please reboot now, updates will continue when you reboot" and fully upgrade things via init or something dumb.
I haven't put alot of thought into this, but basically, as long as the terminal you're running pacman in does not crash, it will be fine... I'll try and see if there's any straight forward ways to make sure things are really secure and all, but I'd rather not have to take control over a user machine while upgrading...

  • ITunes fails to start- I've tried the QT uninstall thing

I've done my research but I can't find a solution that works. Seems like some people are having problems with Malware and some are having problems with QT version integrity. The solutions seem to be variations on similar remedies but so far, nothing's worked for me.
    So far, I've:
    * Searched for Malware (nothing)
    * Tried to reinstall QT on top of existing QT (couldn't install)
    * Uninstalled from install programs for both QT and iTunes, rebooting, then reinstalling (didn't fix anything)
    * Uninstalled QT from Windows Install Cleanup and then doing the repaired from iTunes install with and without virus scan turned on.
*Uninstalled QT & iTunes from Windows Install Cleanup, rebooting, and reinstalled QT on its own then iTunes.
QT opens just fine on its own. And I also deleted the QT directory in Program Files and the two QT files in System 32.
    Please help.

    Welcme to the club.
hopefully enough of us will stop buying music from iTunes that it will force them to fix this problem.

  • HT4827 After Server uninstall things do not work

    I have done this:
    1) Stopped all Server services
    2) Dragged Server app to Trash
    3) Cleaned Trash
    4) Rebooted
Many things still work differently or not work at all:  SMB, Screensharing (server). I get messages in logs such as
    mkey_file: /var/db/krb5kdc/m_key.SERVER.LOCAL
    or
-[PasswordServerPrefsObject getSearchBase]: Unable to locate search base: -1 Can't contact LDAP server
which I never got before ...
So, I then reinstalled Mountain Lion from freshly downloaded Install. This has not caused any improvements (or damage).
How can I return to the pre Server install state without having to wipe the disk, install Mountain Lion, and then recover my Applications, documents, etc from TimeMachine.

I am replying to myself because I found the problem: LDAP services were left behind. After destroying them with
    <code>
    slapconfig  -destroyldapserver
    </code>
    I no longe have problems.

  • How do you uninstall things on a mac

im new to macs and ive downloaded quite a few programs some i want to delete how do i do that ?

    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
        1. AppZapper 2.0.1
        2. AppDelete 3.2.6
        3. Automaton 1.50
        4. Hazel
        5. AppCleaner 2.1.0
        6. CleanApp
        7. iTrash 1.8.2
        8. Amnesia
        9. Uninstaller 1.15.1
      10. Spring Cleaning 11.0.1

  • How can I uninstall Skype?

I changed from windows to a mac about 18 months ago and I can't beleive the difficulties I have had.. I have been unable to download the latest version of Skype for many months now.. I have googled and followed every post I can find on the subject and ended up with more rubbish in my hard drive that I cant get rid of and still no success.. With windows uninstalling was always a straight forward simple operation.. Ok forgive me I'm so frustrated.. I will try to explain the problem:
When the new version of skype arrived I tried to download it and after apparently downloading it says "Skype was unable to install the update because the old application cant be overwritten" so then I google and read that I need to uninstall the old version first.. why this happened I don't know as alwasy before new versions downloaded without a problem.. so when I find it (Skype.app) in finder it will not drag to trash.. though it does not seem to be in 'Applications' or 'Utilities' it seems to be amongst some pictures?.. I have tried to move it to Applications but again it seems it will not be moved?.. I also have a Skype 'disc image' in my trash and when I try to empty trash it says "The operation can’t be completed because the item “Skype_5.8.0.945.dmg is in use". It says this even after I quit skype. I then read somewhere that the way to get rid of it was use 'app cleaner' so I downloaded that and it didnt work and now i seem to be stuck with that in my dock and yet i cant find it anywhere else and it doesn't seem to do anything? All this happened months ago when after hours of frustration I just gave up and decided to live with the old version of skype.. Then today I was trying to clean up a few things I dont want and ended up trying again.. this time i downloaded another thing called AppTrap which is now also stuck in my trash because it didnt work either and now I cant get rid of that either! By now you are probably thinking I am a halfwit! well I have never been great with all this stuff but when I had a windows PC I managed to uninstall things without a problem.. I have found some explanations of how to solve these kind of issues that sound like you have to be not only a computer genius but also have endless free time which I just dont have.. can anyone help me? Thanks in advance!

Hi, sorry to hear the problems & frustration.
The DMG might be mounted, & Skype may be running in the background...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), then...
To completely uninstall, and then reinstall Skype for Mac:
Quit Skype by selecting Skype > Quit Skype.
Open your Applications folder and drag your copy of Skype to the trash.
Then open ~/Library/Application Support * and drag the Skype folder to the trash. The ~ sign represents your home folder. To find your home folder, open Finder and, from the menu bar, select Go > Home.
Important: If you’d like to keep your chat and call history, skip this step.
Open ~/Library/Preferences and drag com.skype.skype.plist to the trash.
Open Finder and search for “Skype” using the search feature in Mac OS X. Move all of the results returned to the trash.
Click Ctrl and the trash icon, and select Empty Trash.
    Restart your computer.
Download and install the latest version of Skype.
    Get help with installing Skype.
*By default, the Library folder is hidden in Mac OS X v10.7 “Lion” and higher. To find your Library folder, open Finder and, from the menu bar, select Go, press and hold the option key, and then select Library.
    Reboot.

  • Error when uninstalling java

I get the following message when I try to unistall 1.4 of java:
error number 0x80040702 description failed to load dll:actpanel and the uninstall fails. Any help on this would be appreciated.

This is where the nerd of me comes out.
    - This is NOT a Java Problem -
This is actually an installshield problem and nothing much has really been documented on this.
This error occurs when Java's setup program doesn't kill itself correctly, either installing or uninstalling itself.
I 'believe' (Untested but I believe strongly) that removing from a windows box registry the key
    HKey_Local_Machine//Software//Microsoft//Windows//Current Version//Uninstall//{IDontHave-WindowsSoICant-Check-WhatThisShould-Be}
-= The Java Uninstall Thing Key =- (I am unsure what this is because I dont have windows - not that I hate windows or anything, just dont own a copy)
Reboot, and uninstall again, it should uninstall just dandy. But keep in mind, its probably just easier to type "format c: /u", or uninstall java 1.4.x maunally.
    David Grocke
P.S. If you ever get the 0x80040702 error it can 'most probably' be fixed by this. It could also be a required dll is corrupt or missing, or is locked by another program that installshield needs (such as installshield itself).

  • Premiere Pro CS6 will not install after uninstalling it?

I was having a problem with Red Giant's Mojo plugin. Their preset would not show up in Premiere Pro CS6. The Red Giant tech told me to reinstall PPro. So I did the uninstall thing and now when I click to install PPro, nothing happens. I did things like restarts and repaired permissions, but nothing helps.Any ideas?
    Mac Pro 1,1 - Lion 10.7.5

This is how I solved the problem:
Been on the chat with Red Giant. They could not fix the problem. They told me to re-install Premiere Pro. That didn't help. The presets still did not show up. The Mojo preset file would not import. So what I did was, since the Mojo presets do show up in After Effects, I applied each preset to a clip. Took a screenshot of each one of the slider of where they were set in the effects control panel. Then went back to Premiere Pro, manually set the sliders for each preset that I made screenshots of. After each one I set, I did a save preset. Made a new bin and put all nine preset in the bin. It was a little time consuming but it got the job done.
    Hope this helps.

  • Need Help with UNINSTALLING Photoshop CS

    Hey everyone
I want to uninstall my Photoshop CS application on my mac (The whole CS suite actually) since its takes up a ton of room and I no longer use it.
So I want to know how can I safely uninstall them. I read around and watched some youtube vids. Some people say just throw it all in the trash and empty it. Others say not to do that.
I put in the first disk thinking there would be an uninstall thing there but there wasn't.
So can I just throw it in the trash and go around finding the remaining stuff in my library and/or preferences folder? Is this the only way for us mac users to uninstall programs/apps?
Please help, I need to free up some space.
    Thanks!
    - Spyrochick101

    Rave,
    Thanks for the reply.
I have looked at those permissions and either set them or confirmed to myself that they were correct at least 4 times in this crusade so far.
I did find a folder named SLStore_v1 which appears to be empty. Anything there? Should the 2 folders where permissions were set have contents?
I am, currently, re-downloading PSCC. It is going very slowly. I'll see what happens when that is complete or has failed as it has times in the past.
Does the downloading need to happen when I have invoked the Root User? Or, is it the running and set up that's important there?

  • Uninstalling Adobe suite

Been using macs for awhile but not real familiar with install/uninstall stuff. I installed Adobe CS3, a disc I got from a friend to try it out. I know its bad but... I tried to uninstall by dragging all the apps into the trash but when I actually downloaded flash from adobe it won't let me install cause it says its already there. I got rid of all the other adobe files and don't have access to the disc anymore. How do I get all the old files off the computer with the uninstall thing from adobe? I tried Appcleaner but it can't find any instances of it. I know I put myself in a stupid situation but any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. There is an alias to adobe installer there but it does nothing. I try to open it, asks for my password and then disappears. Even when I "show original" the file is only a few hundred kb so I assume that's not the whole file either.
One thing I hate about macs compared to PCs, nothing ever goes wrong with them so I don't know how to troubleshoot Macs like I do PCs.

  • Uninstalled apps keep trying to reinstall

I just got a new Z3 Tablet Compact (wifi only). I already have an Xperia Z1 phone, and when I entered my account all the apps I had installed on my phone were installed on my tablet. However, some of these are apps I would never use on my tablet, such as activity monitors, apps that link to my cell provider, etc. So I uninstalled them, using the menu on the right hand side of the screen and checking the ones I didn't want. All is well.
However, every time I turn on the tablet, it starts reinstalling these apps. How can I stop this from happening?

    I had actually tried that.
I made a mistake on my previous post. The menu I used first to uninstall was the left-hand menu (not the right-hand) when you're in the app screen. On that menu, when you click uninstall, there appears a little box with an x next to each app except the ones you can't uninstall. when you touch that box, the app goes away.  It's actually a nice and easy way to uninstall things.
The first time the apps reinstalled themselves, I thought maybe I should have used Settings/Apps instead, and uninstalled them from there. However, the same thing happened again. Out of curiosity, I uninstalled a few from the app screen menu, and checked to see if they still appeared in the Settings/Apps menu, and they didn't.
However, it hasn't happened again, and the only reason I can see that it's stopped is that in the meantime I've cleared the notifications list, that tells you what apps have been installed. It's not very intuitive, but I hadn't done anything else that would have stopped it.

  • Uninstalling previous CS versions after Creative Cloud subscription

In order to free up more space on my mac hard drive can I uninstall my previous version of CS4 extended and Bridge now that I am a Creative Cloud subscriber?

Yes, you can. Just make sure to use the proper uninstallers. also, after you ran the uninstall, things like file associations will be busted and you should run the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool and let AAM reinstall the apps to fix this.

  • Stupid question on uninstalling

K, I know this is probably a really stupid question, but how do you uninstall applications/programs on the MacBook running OSX? I have been a PC user my whole life and FINALLY made the jump (so glad I did). But I am unsure on how to uninstall things (i.e. poker games, chat programs etc). Do you just drag the icon to the trash and delete? Any help on this would greatly be appreciated!
