Uninstalling VMM 2012 SP1 can cause any Network or Shared Storage Issues?

Hello There,
I'm studying for the 70-409 Exam and also planning to reinstall the VMM 2012 on my company, since it was created a long time ago and somehow the old administrator created the environment in a way that only he could understand.
After looking online and don't find any answers, I decided to create this thread to see if anyone can help me. My questions are:
1 - If I Uninstall the VMM, my Hosts will loose any network configuration? I already checked and I am not using any Logical Switches in the current configuration, and only have some Logical Networks created. Removing the VMM can cause any network issues
on the physical hosts or in the VMs under it?
2 - Is there a guid somewhere about the Uninstall process? It could be in a book, there is no problem in buying it, but i really cannot find it anywhere.
Thanks!

Hello Ed,
So, it will cause some disruption, but the VM's and the Hyper-V Hosts will be disconnected from the Network or it will be a "temporary" disruption?
I Will try to explain better my concern: The VMM, as it is on my company, is useless. I really need to rebuild the entire Farm from the Scrath, document the project and start to use the VMM software. We are starting to use a lot of Hyper-V Vms and it's very
hard to keep using the Hyper-V Manager.
I dont have Logical Switches in place, neither IP Address Pool published. I got some Logical Networks and VM Networks in place, but my Logical Networks are empty, with no IP Address and Sites/VLAN associated.
I Also don't have any Storages Published on the Fabric. If I remove my VMM server, i will change something on the Vswitches of the Physical Servers? Which will be the best plan to reinstall my Hyper-V Farm?
Thank you!

    Your help is highly appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Regards,

    Mine is solved.
Was because I removed VMM 2012 R2 on the same host (again, because R2 doesn't do P2V conversions) but the uninstall failed to remove "Microsoft Web Deploy 3.5". When VMM 2012 SP1 installs uses Web Deploy 3.0 and was blocked by the newer version. uninstalled
3.5 and then the console install worked.
hopes this helps someone out there.

  • System Center Virtual Machine Manager SC VMM 2012 SP1 Installation fails: Unable to assign the name NO_PARAM to this host because this name is already in use.

I'm trying to install VMM 2012 SP1 on a Windows Server 2012 machine and it fails with this error,
    the scenario is as follows,
Old database (from 2012 RTM) exists on remote SQL 2012 SP1 server
Server was 2008 R2 SP1 so I decided to make a fresh installation of 2012 with the same name
    installed ADK
specific error: 01:42:13:VMMPostinstallProcessor threw an exception: Threw Exception.Type: Microsoft.VirtualManager.Setup.Exceptions.BackEndErrorException, Exception.Message: Unable to assign the name NO_PARAM to this host because this name is already in
    use.
    please help

I had a similar problem today when upgrading from SCVMM 2012 RTM to SCVMM 2012 SP1 RTM. To re-create the issue you describe originally you can actually just uninstall SCVMM 2012 SP1 RTM with "retain data" option and re-install the software on the same
computer (with the same name of course), attaching it to the retained DB. If you change the SCVMM server name I believe it will make some things go wrong after your install, like missing VM template passwords for example as the data gets encrypted in
the DB. Maybe it didn't but I didn't risk it. I definitely know if you change service accounts on a scenario like this you will be without the encrypted DB data which isn't much fun. To avoid changing the computer name, if you look in the setup log
files in %systemdrive%\ProgramData\VMMLogs\, specifically the SetupWizard.log file. You will see details on it failing because the same computer name is in the DB table "dbo.tbl_ADHC_AgentServer" and until it is removed from that table I wasn't able to get
the install to complete at all. The error in my logs looked something like this "InnerException.Type: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException, InnerException.Message: Violation of UNIQUE KEY constraint 'unique_ADHC_AgentServer_ComputerName'. Cannot insert duplicate
key in object 'dbo.tbl_ADHC_AgentServer'. The duplicate key value is (computername.is.writtenhere). The statement has been terminated." In the row data in the DB it also seems to suggest that the computer name had "Virtual Machine Manager Library Files" on
it which is strange since I always remove the local SCVMM server as a library server after I install it and use an off box library server.

  • How do I update my VMM 2012 SP1 Guest Services to be the same as the Hosts?

    VMM 2012 SP1 and Server 2012 Hyper-V Cluster
How do I update my VMM Guest Services to be the same as the Hosts?
In VMM 2012 SP1 I right click on a VM and select “Install Virtual Guest Services” it installs as expected.
    Cluster validation reports this error:
The following virtual machines are running integration services that does not match the host computer. You must update the
integration services on the virtual machines or the host computer to the same version.
I am able to go to the VM on host and update the Guest Services using the hyper-v manager but I would like it to work in VMM.
The version on the ISOs on the host is.  6.2.9200.16433 and the version being installed by VMM is 6.2.9200.16383.
I am not sure where VMM gets the it’s guests services from.
Any idea on how I update VMM to match the host?
    Thanks,
    -Lee

I hope this does not have to be done from each VM in the cluster (hundreds for me in some clusters)?
I am stunned this cant be done in VMM!!
Validate your cluster????  I am hoping cluster validation is better/faster/less prone to time out storage during the storage tests in 2012?
Does Microsoft know how easy this is to do in VMware? (shift click all VM's, right click "Install/Upgrade VMware Tools)
    Thanks, -Lindy
I know right - I am really trying to be positive about this 'great stuff' that MS have brought us, but really - Going back to the Hosts to do each vm individually??? And saying you can do it in Powershell.....
I loved the days of DOS, I still use the concepts of it, but I thought we had (or that we were) evolving!!!!!
    regards...

    Hi
What base OS are you using?

Are all the components of the CTP release definitely removed from the server.
Also just noticed this which might help:

  • Issue while Upgrading vmm 2012 sp1 to vmm 2012 R2

    Hi,
We are trying to upgrade the vmm setup to 2012 r2 ,we retained the existing vmm database
While upgrading to vmm 2012 r2 , got the below warning message:
"The VMM database contains one or more services in a failed state. Upgrading to VMM in System Center 2012 R2 is not recommended. Retry the upgrade after you have reinstalled VMM for System Center 2012 SP1 and repaired or removed these services. Click
    Cancel to exit the upgrade."
Tried to find the bug using the vmm logs file like
    errlevel
    setupwizard
    vmmserver
In erlevel log, the entry was "0".
Any idea what the issue is????

    1. You just need CU3 - these are cumulative
    2. Sure, you can take a temporary snapshot. You need to take a SQL backup also.
    3. Don't forget to test the upgrade process on a copy of your site database (use /testdbupgrade)
    This guide may help you

  • LabVIEW 2012 SP1, Can't get correct mechanical action on boolean buttons

I am trying to use boolean buttons and events to programatically change the properties of a graph.  I basically want to click a button on the FP, and have the graph change the desired property.  All the property changing is fine, but I am really struggling with the mechanical action of the buttons.
I'll preface this by apologizing that I cannot post my code, as the computers with LV installed are isolated. My code is basically OK buttons, a while loop, and an event structure with a value change event for each button.
I want the user to click and release the button. After the click and release, I want the button to be in the same state it started, and I want the value change event to only trigger once.  Sounds to me like I want the Latch When Released mechanical action.  The problem is that this isn't working.  I cannot create buttons that behave like this.  None of the 6 mechanical actions exhibit the desired behavior.
To make matters worse, I have two OK buttons both set to Latch when released.  Both buttons are True before the click. One button behaves as intended (button is true again after the click and release) and the other button doesn't switch back.  I tried to copy the correctly working button, but still the copied button does not work the same as the original.  Both buttons fire a single value change event, dispite behaving differently.
To answer the question "Where did I get the working button from?"  A while back I made a simple button test vi that tested all 6 of the mechanical actions and kept track of how many times they fired a value change event for a single click.  My buttons worked when I made this vi...eventually, i remember having trouble with this back then too.  The results of that trouble had me using switch until released buttons with mouse down events for a long time, until I got the button test VI working properly and learned how buttons actually work. But now buttons are being funny again.  I tried to copy working Latch when released button into my current program, but for some reason only one of the two copied buttons work as intended, despite them being copies of the same button.
Is there some bug in LV2012 SP1 (64 bit) where mechanical actions don't work consistently?  Am I just being dumb?  I'm sorry I can't post the code.  I have this issue on both Windows 7 and Linux.
A bit more info, as I wanted to make sure I tried eveyrthing before posting.  I tried to make a new button test VI.  The old one still works, but I cannot get the buttons in the new button test vi to behave the same as in the old one I made.  In the new one, Latch when pressed behaves the same as switch when pressed, and latch when relased behaves the same as switch when released.  Switch until released and latch until released behave slightly differently.  They both fire two value change events, but SuR actually switches twice (there and back again), where LuR just switches state once but still fires two value change events anyway.  I have checked to make sure the mechanical actions are set properly at least a dozen times.
Pretty confused over here.  My old button test vi works as I expect it to, and the Latch when released button works like I want, but I can't for the life of me reproduce it.

    To Bob_Schor
I realize the folly of mouse down events, and I'm trying to move away from them.  I originally started using them because I couldn't get the desired button behavior out of value change events and any other mechanical action.
I use LabVIEW 64 bit because I was hitting the RAM limits with the 32 bit version.  I hit the limit when I try to plot a great deal of data in 3D, which I do fairly often. I get away with this because I don't interface with any equipment or use any of the specialized modules, but maybe I should consider only using 64 when it's absolutely necesary and get 32 bit on there as well.  But I have the same issue on Linux, which only has a 32 bit labview version (still 2012 SP1)
There is only one event structure in the program.  I have two buttons because I'm just using them to fire two separate events.  My current situation is that I am plotting 9 plots on a single graph.  One of these buttons is a "check all" button for the visibility check boxes.  I click the check all button, and all 9 plots become visible.  The other button is an "Uncheck all" button, which does the opposite.
That's for my current program.  I also have a button test vi which has 6 boolean buttons, each set to a different mechanical action.  A single event stucture in a while loop has a value change event for each button.  I made this so that I could see for myself how the buttons worked (i.e. I see that the switch when released mechanical action produced two value change events.).  I have an old version of this program which works as I expect it to.  This morning I tried to remake it (it's very simple) and it does not behave the same, despite the block diagram being pretty much identical.  I described the differences in the OP.
I can reporduce the behavior on a second computer that is restricted.  Which is 32 bit labview for Linux. I don't have an unrestricted machine with LabVIEW installed.  If I did, I would have tried to rebuild my button test VI  (again) to see if it works.
At it's most basic, create an OK button on the FP and set in the True state.  It defaults to the Latch when released mechanical action.  Throw an event structure in a while loop.  Give the ES a value change event for the button.  In this even just increment some counter to indicate how many times the value change has been triggered.  I did this using a shift register.  Run it.  For me, when I click the Latch when released button it fires one value change event and doesn't reset to true when after the click.  I can change the mechanical action of the button, and none of the 6 give me what I want.
So my issue just boils down to Latch when released not behaving properly.
In my original button test vi (which was this with 5 more buttons and 5 more value change events in the ES), the latch when released button DOES reset to true after my click.  Copy and pasting this button creates a new button which does not behave the same way, despite still being set to latch when released.
My problem is not so much with the events, but the behavior of the button.  Am I correct that Latch when released is what I want?  A single click, and the button fires one VC event and returns to the same state before the click?

  • VMM 2012 sp1: unable to create a logical switch on team with different nics (bug?)

Hyper-V Host is HP Proliant G7 with 4 onboard nics and additional (different) 4-port adapter, all 1Gbit. Server 2012 with latest updates.
VMM 2012 is sp1 with latest updates, server 2012 running in a vm.
When I create a logical switch with teamed uplink port profile in VMM, the job builds the team but fails to create the vswitch when ports from both onboard nics and adapter is used.
I am able to create  a vswitch manually on the team if I do it directly on the host.
If the team is created on either purely onboard nics or purely adapter nics, the logical switch creation succeeds.
In short terms: I am able to create a vswitch based on a server 2012 team with different nics, but not a logical switch. Why?

I have tried assigning both nics in one step, and one by one. When I create the logical switch team with only one nic it succeeds, but then fails when I add the second (unless it is similar to the first).
    Error in VMM is

VMM agent is installed and running.
If I add the second non-similar team member from the host itself, I get this error from nic teaming wizard
Validation failed and changes to the system are rolled back
It is not a question of losing connection (been there), management interface is on a different team. And it also fails when second team member is added directly on the host...
So far I will stick to the conclusion that my problem is with logical switch and different nics :)
Oh, by the way nics are HP NC382i (Broadcom) and NC365T (Intel)

  • SCOM 2012 SP1 Can't get email alerts for Heartbeat Failure or Computer Unreachable when combined with Group.

    Hello,
I have SCOM 2012 SP1 RTM POC lab.  I have created a dynamic group that picks up my system center servers based on some simple criteria and this works fine.
I have set up a subscription for critical and high severity alerts originating from this dynamic group called SCOM Servers to send emails to a distribution.  This also worked well for any critical alert that was NOT Heartbeat Failure or Computer Unreachable.
I see those in the console but no email.
So I set up a new subscription by right clicking on the alerts and here's the kicker.  If add no other conditions to these subscriptions, they will send emails to the DL I provided, but if add the condition initiating from group, and specify my dynamic
group SCOM servers, no email alert.  But the alert still appears in the console.
Any ideas on this?  I would like the appropriate support groups to get these types of alerts for the servers that they support (i.e. SCOM will get SCOM servers, Exchange Admin will get Exchange and never the two roads shall meet.).
I even tried some internet posted custom management pack, but I couldn't import it after adding the code that he listed.
I mean, isn't this a basic requirement for any mid-sized company?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Donald,
Like Dan says you need to add the "Health Service Watcher" objects to the groups as wel. Unfortunately this cannot be done in the Dynamic group Editor but has to be done in the XML. Export the XML and add the following piece of code between the
    lines </MembershipRule></MembershipRules>:
    <MembershipRule>
     <MonitoringClass>$MPElement[Name="SystemCenter!Microsoft.SystemCenter.HealthServiceWatcher"]$</MonitoringClass>
    <RelationshipClass>$MPElement[Name="MicrosoftSystemCenterInstanceGroupLibrary7084300!Microsoft.SystemCenter.InstanceGroupContainsEntities"]$</RelationshipClass>

              </Expression>
            </Contained>
          </Expression>
        </Contains>
      </Expression>
    </MembershipRule>
Save the XML delete the old one in OpsMgr and import the edited.
For SP1 the SystemLibrary version is 7.0.8430.0. If this is not your version you need to edit this in the code above.
    Hope this helps,

  • WRT600N - Network Sharing / Storage Issues

I recently bought a WRT600N v1.0 from Dell.com and configured the router (I'm a CCNP, so I've been using routers, etc.. for years). I had a WRT54GS v1.0 before this and that worked great for years.
The WiFi (both 5GHz and 2.4GHz) has been rock solid on the WRT600N, but my issue is with the network sharing/storage (NAS) part of the router.
I plugged in a Seagate USB 2.0 750GB HDD (already formatted to NTFS using Windows Vista). I was able to create folders and share them out. However, I cannot map a drive to about half of the folders. All folders are set up the exact same way, and even those I can map a drive to.. the network performance copying files to those shares is horrible (even over Gigabit Ethernet). I'm talking like 1MB/s, when I was getting 20MB/s using my old solution.
When I formatted the disk using the WRT600N, it only allowed me to format it to FAT, not even FAT32 or NTFS. Then it would still only work half the time.
    Any ideas?
This seems like a FW issue, like many brand new Linksys products. I've already contacted Linksys support and they don't have a beta FW available to resolve this either.

    DTSkyCop wrote:
Have you fixed your issues with the storage feature of this router...?  I recently bought the WRT600N router and the SAME exact Seagate HD for the storage link feature.  I have spent over 15 hours numerous phone calls to Linksys Techs and My Computer Works Techs and NOTHING doing, it still does not work right.
I have set up my drive and I to had to FORMAT using the FAT system of the router per one of the Linksys Supervisor Techs.  I did this and set up everything related to my drive and MAPPED all my drives...  I have access to all the drives at first and can move files around and delete from the network.
I wait for a few minutes and open a NEW program and try to SAVE to the network drive location and  get "You Need Permission to Preform This Action.  Try Again or Cancel" are the only options I get and NO REQUEST for a paswsword is given.  I am administrator and cannot now access my drive / network...
The TECH's for MCW are puzzled as well as they initially set the drive and Share folders up.  They cannot figure out why there continues to be a problem accessing the folders on the drive.
I spent 2 1/2 hours tonight on the phone with LinkSys and got really no healp only try this and try that.  While experiencing the problems with the tech on the phone, I preformed a REFRESH on the Storage / Disk page and ALL Share Files I created Disappeared.  I looked physically at my router and discovered the USB was now out...Why?  The TECH thought is was a loose connection.  NEW Router and NEW HD.  Both are in a secure location and no one around to touch them.  I could not get the router to discover the HD plugged into the USB location so I finally unplugged it and plugged it back in.
All setting remained and the router came back up without what seemed to be any hitches.  At this point, I played with the configuration settings while on what seemed like eternal hold and FINALLY got access to the NETWORK drives and was able to save to all the partitions that were created.
The Tech decided that all was OK and we disconnected and guess what...  I again tried to SAVE to the a partition and "You Need Permission to Preform This Action.  Try Again or Cancel" came up again.
I am TRULY frustrated with this NEW SETUP and don't know what to do now.  Can anyone help me fix this thing to make it work right?????
One thing you will learn about LinkSys, is that they have the best prodcuts out there..but if you buy a first generation product (such as the WRT600N), it will have issues that will take firmware updates to resolve the problems. The best thing is to report the issues and wait a few months until several firmware updates come out to resolve the problems.
I recently installed the latest FW update and my WRT600N has been acting "better", but still needs a few more FW updates to fix the other stability issues. I'm fully prepared to wait it out, but it is unfortunate that we have to wait anything out...as LinkSys Q/A should have caught these bugs prior to product release and had them fixed then.
I've tried products from NetGear, Belkin, etc.. and all of them are horrible. At least LinkSys products work once the FW updates come out. I just hope you never need to contact LinkSys support as they are horrible.
    Here's my configuration:
    - WRT600N v1.0
    - Latest FW
    - Seagate 750GB USB 2.0 External HDD formatted to NTFS using Windows Vista
    - Shared folders created using WRT600N
    - Media Server Enabled (still does not work with my Playstation 3)
    - File write performance, still horrible..even over Gigabit Ethernet (around 200KB/s, should be around 4-5MB/s at least)
    - File share mapping, still intermittent.. usually works.. but I noticed it seems to be case senstitive in mapping the drive names (odd)
    - Should have an option to format the HDD as FAT, FAT32 or NTFS (only FAT is used currently)

    P6(exceptionType):System.NullReferenceException
the VMM has all our NAS listed, but we are using CSV through failover cluster manager and not using VMM
