Union All Command 2: filtering data

I have my Union All command working, and it pulls the 4+ million records quickly.
But as soon as I add a link to the table that has the fields I need to filter by, well, mud flows uphill faster.
So how do I filter the data when the filter information is in a table not in the union all command.
My Successful (to this point) Union All Command
SELECT 'LABOR_1' AS SourseTable,
h1."HISTKEY",
h1."CHRGDTTM",
h1."USAGE",
h1."TOTCOST",
h1."DSTBGTKEY"
FROM WORKMANAGEMENT.COSTLABR AS h1
UNION ALL
SELECT 'EQUIP_2' AS SourseTable,
h2."HISTKEY",
h2."CHRGDTTM",
h2."USAGE",
h2."TOTCOST",
h2."DSTBGTKEY"
FROM WORKMANAGEMENT.COSTPEQ AS h2
UNION ALL
SELECT 'PART_3' AS SourseTable,
h3."HISTKEY",
h3."CHRGDTTM",
h3."USAGE",
h3."TOTCOST",
h3."DSTBGTKEY"
FROM WORKMANAGEMENT.COSTPART AS h3
UNION ALL
SELECT 'CONT_4' AS SourseTable,
h4."HISTKEY",
h4."CHRGDTTM",
h4."USAGE",
h4."TOTCOST",
h4."DSTBGTKEY"
FROM WORKMANAGEMENT.COSTCONT AS h4
UNION ALL
SELECT 'XTRA_5' AS SourseTable,
h5."HISTKEY",
h5."CHRGDTTM",
h5."USAGE",
h5."TOTCOST",
h5."DSTBGTKEY"
FROM WORKMANAGEMENT.COSTXTRA AS h5

Debi,
Well the next step is to make sure this works then...
SELECT u.SourseTable, u.HISTKEY, u.CHRGDTTM, u.USAGE, u.TOTCOST, u.DSTBGTKEY
FROM (
     SELECT 'LABOR_1' AS SourseTable,
      h1."HISTKEY",  h1."CHRGDTTM",  h1."USAGE",  h1."TOTCOST",  h1."DSTBGTKEY"
     FROM WORKMANAGEMENT.COSTLABR AS h1
       UNION ALL
     SELECT 'EQUIP_2' AS SourseTable,
      h2."HISTKEY",  h2."CHRGDTTM",  h2."USAGE",  h2."TOTCOST",  h2."DSTBGTKEY"
     FROM WORKMANAGEMENT.COSTPEQ AS h2
       UNION ALL
     SELECT 'PART_3' AS SourseTable,
      h3."HISTKEY",  h3."CHRGDTTM",  h3."USAGE",  h3."TOTCOST",  h3."DSTBGTKEY"
     FROM WORKMANAGEMENT.COSTPART AS h3
       UNION ALL
     SELECT 'CONT_4' AS SourseTable,
      h4."HISTKEY",  h4."CHRGDTTM",  h4."USAGE",  h4."TOTCOST", h4."DSTBGTKEY"
     FROM WORKMANAGEMENT.COSTCONT AS h4
       UNION ALL
     SELECT 'XTRA_5' AS SourseTable,
      h5."HISTKEY",  h5."CHRGDTTM", h5."USAGE",  h5."TOTCOST",  h5."DSTBGTKEY"
     FROM WORKMANAGEMENT.COSTXTRA AS h5
) AS u
Also, for readability, let clean up the 2nd query as well...
SELECT
  h.HISTKEY,
  h.ACTKEY,
  h.INITDTTM,
  h.COMPDTTM,
  a.ACTCODE,
  a.ACTDESC
FROM
  WORKMANAGEMENT.HISTORY AS h
  INNER JOIN WORKMANAGEMENT.ACTDEFN AS a ON h.ACTKEY = a.ACTKEY
Now... assuming that both of these continue to work as they are written above... It's time to tie it all together. Try this...
SELECT
u.SourseTable, u.HISTKEY, u.CHRGDTTM, u.USAGE, u.TOTCOST, u.DSTBGTKEY,
h.ACTKEY, h.INITDTTM, h.COMPDTTM, a.ACTCODE, a.ACTDESC
FROM (
     SELECT 'LABOR_1' AS SourseTable,
      h1."HISTKEY",  h1."CHRGDTTM",  h1."USAGE",  h1."TOTCOST",  h1."DSTBGTKEY"
     FROM WORKMANAGEMENT.COSTLABR AS h1
       UNION ALL
     SELECT 'EQUIP_2' AS SourseTable,
      h2."HISTKEY",  h2."CHRGDTTM",  h2."USAGE",  h2."TOTCOST",  h2."DSTBGTKEY"
     FROM WORKMANAGEMENT.COSTPEQ AS h2
       UNION ALL
     SELECT 'PART_3' AS SourseTable,
      h3."HISTKEY",  h3."CHRGDTTM",  h3."USAGE",  h3."TOTCOST",  h3."DSTBGTKEY"
     FROM WORKMANAGEMENT.COSTPART AS h3
       UNION ALL
     SELECT 'CONT_4' AS SourseTable,
      h4."HISTKEY",  h4."CHRGDTTM",  h4."USAGE",  h4."TOTCOST", h4."DSTBGTKEY"
     FROM WORKMANAGEMENT.COSTCONT AS h4
       UNION ALL
     SELECT 'XTRA_5' AS SourseTable,
      h5."HISTKEY",  h5."CHRGDTTM", h5."USAGE",  h5."TOTCOST",  h5."DSTBGTKEY"
     FROM WORKMANAGEMENT.COSTXTRA AS h5
) AS u
LEFT OUTER JOIN WORKMANAGEMENT.HISTORY AS h ON u.HISTKEY = h.HISTKEY
INNER JOIN WORKMANAGEMENT.ACTDEFN AS a ON h.ACTKEY = a.ACTKEY
Let me know how that works for you,
Jason

  • Performing UNION/UNION ALL in views

I have two databases (DB1 AND DB2) in same server. I have to create two views (V1 AND V2) respectively in DB1 and DB2. And I have to make an union/union all operation in these views (V1 and V2). Is this possible.???.
Or can I create a single view instead of two views in such a way that the single view contains an union/union all operation between the data taken from two DBs (DB1 and DB2).?
Any ideas or suggestions on these questions. Your help is well appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Or can I create a single view instead of two views in such a way that the single view contains an union/union all operation between the data taken from two DBs (DB1 and DB2).?
Make sure you do very thorough testing if you plan to use UNION since that requires a sort operation. And that means that the data from one query has to be sent to the other server before it can be sorted.
So a query issued on DB1 might sent the DB1 data to DB2 and then send the sorted result back to DB1. But the same query issued on DB2 would already have the DB2 data so after the DB1 data is sent to DB2 and sorted the query is done.
That is, in one case the entire result set may be sent over the network from one server to the other instead of just one table.

  • OAF Export button fetching data in one column - view object using union all

    Dear All,
Export button showing data in one column from  view object,
View object is based on mulitple queries with union all ,
Please let me know the solution for this issue.
    Thanks
    Maheswara Raju

    Maheswara Raju,
As per my understanding you are not able to export all the View Attribute using export Button. Only the attribute which is used with the item/region will get exported.
There are few work around in case if you want to export the column without showing on OAF Page. Let me know.
    Cheers

  • Simple command to refresh data of all declared internal tables & variables!

    Hi All,
I have declared many internal tables & variables in my program in declaration include.
Is there any Simple command which can refresh data of all declared internal tables & variables!
Instead of clearing & refreshing each i.table & variable i want to use single command to refresh data.
    Is this possible!
    Thanks in advance.
    Thanks,

    CLEAR: lv_field1,
                 lv_field2,
                 lt_itab1[],

  • Performance Issue in UNION ALL....

    Hi,
I have a performance issue in a query using select.. union all .
There are few select statements which are joined by union all.
I need to re-frame the query such that the records from each individual select
statement can be appended into a collection variable.
I need to avoid the use of UNION ALL.
Can anyone please help me out in this issue?
Please find the select statement below.
    SELECT *
    FROM v_gfd1_asset_allocation
    WHERE NVL(value,0) <> 0
    AND scheme = p_scheme_id
    UNION ALL
    SELECT *
    FROM v_gfd1_capitalization_alloc
    WHERE NVL(value,0) <> 0
    AND scheme = p_scheme_id
    UNION ALL
    SELECT *
    FROM v_gfd1_currency_allocation
    WHERE NVL(value,0) <> 0
    AND scheme = p_scheme_id
    Thanks,
    Santhosh

The UNION ALL takes the result set of one query, appends the result set of the next, and so forth. No sorting or filtering takes place. So, as each query has to be executed to completion, I do not think there is another way - that is what union all is for.
You would probably do well to examine each query's access path. Would an index on NVL( value, 0 ), scheme help, for instance? Understanding the data distribution in the table and how it affects the execution plan would help you improve query performance.

  • Union All is not bring the second part columns to the report

I have 5 groups of series of Select statements and then I made a UNION ALL after the first group. Now it does run correctly and displays the output but it does not assign the second group' s field names.
For example. I am greatly abridging
Completed the SQL's needed to mimic a IBM i display screen. There are 5 product groups making up the screen. I was hoping to have one large Command SQL having the 5 SQLs using UNION ALL. This does 'compile' as a Command. However, it does only brings in the first part fields not the second. So this field is not included in the list of fields tree for COMMAND. PROGR2R2PST,
Is there something not correct how doing the UNION ALL? OUTPUT assigns the column name
of the first group to the second group. HLDGR1PUN 21454 87273
so if i wanted to have one large SQL with union ALLs, it wont work. is there something other than UNION ALL I should use? One idea is if I can have 5 commands to my disposal. I guess  using subreports you can but it will be too slow.

    hi Paul,
a union combines record sets like this
    field1     field2
    1          2
    union
    field3     field4
    2          8
    will produce
    field1     field2
    1          2
    2          8
note that there are no more field3 & field4 names. that's the way a union works.
if you need separate fields for your other values then you would need to use sub-queries instead. to do that delete "UNION ALL " and create sub-queries with anything that is beneath that statement.

  • Obiee 11g : Best practice for filtering data allowed to user

    Hi gurus,
I have a table of the allowed areas for each user.
I want to show only the data facts associated with these allowed areas.
For instance my user scott can see France and Italy data.
I made a variable session. I put this session variable in a filter.
It works ok but only one value (the first one i think) is taken in account (for instance, with my solution scott will see only france data).
I need all the possible values.
I tried with the row wise parameter of the variable session. But it doesn't work (error obiee).
I've read things on internet about using stragg or valuelistof but neither worked.
What would be the best practice to achieve this goal of filtering data with conditions by user stored in database ?
    Thanks in advance, Emmanuel

  • Report with two Command is empty if one of the two commands returns no data

    Hi all,
I have a report with two Commands not linked together.
If ONLY one of the two Commands returns no data, the full report is empty (although the other Command returns data).
I'm using Crystal Report 2008 and the CRJ 12.2.205
    Have an idea?

    Hi Ted,
how can I solve the problem, please? It is important.
If I can help yourself, the problem is appeared in many reports since I updated the library (the old library version 11.8.4.1094 works fine with all). I'm waiting for your answer, please.
    Thank you very much.

Having arranged some scanned pictures in an album in I-Photo how can I keep them in the order I have chosen when I move the album. They all have the scan date and not the taken date and move to new positions if I move them from one album to another.
Is there any way to re-number them in the order I have chosen so that they can then be sorted by number? The scans are all from pre-digital images that I wish to move to a photobook and I don't want to have to organise them twice!
    Thanks for any suggestions.

I was a bit short, Chris, sorry. It is limited, what can be posted, when typing on an iPad.
Now I am back on my Mac. I meant the following:  Batch Change the date for a large range of photos, that should have a date stepped in increments.
Select all Photos at once and use the command "Photos > Batch Change".
Then set the date for the first photo and select an increment, e.g. one minute.
Now all photos will get a new date assigned, incremented by one minute, in the sequence you have selected. So you will be able to sort them by date.  This way it will be unnecessary to change the titles or filenames.

  • Error while executing UNION ALL query

    Hello everyone,
I'm executing the below query on Oracle 9.2.0.8 version.
    select hdr.*
    from ttl_hdr hdr, ttl_service ser
    where hdr.cus_nbr = ser.cus_nbr
    and hdr.dn in ('1232','2342',343','343')

    from ttl_hdr_his hdr, ttl_service ser
    where hdr.cus_nbr = ser.cus_nbr
    and hdr.dn in ('1232','2342',343','343')
    and I encounter following error:
ORA-01790: expression must have same datatype as corresponding expression
But instead of * if I'm specifying a list of few columns, it executes the query properly.
Can anybody tell me what the problem is ?
    regards,
    Rossy

    Hi,
All columns in your tables TTL_HDR and TTL_HDR_HIS are not with same data type.
I'm sure you get same error if you specify all columns that * brings.
Specify column names and use conversion function to get data type same to column from both selects.
PS: and I think this is not Application Express related

    Any suggestion

Looks like user_updatable_columns sort of thinks the MV is just a table - I don't know about that...
An MV on a single table can be updated - I tried that and it works:
create materialized view mv_table_1 for update
    as
select * from table_1;I noticed [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e16579/advmv.htm#sthref294]examples stating the UNION ALL needs a "marker" so Oracle can know from the data which source table a row in the MV originates from - like this:
create materialized view v_table_all for update
    as
    select 'T1' tab_id, table_1.* from table_1
    union all
select 'T2' tab_id, table_2.* from table_2 ;But that also fails (the "marker" requirement was specifically for FAST REFRESH, so it was just a long shot ;-) )
What are you planning to do?
    <li>Create the MV.
<li>Update records in the MV - which then is no longer consistent with the source data.
<li>Schedule a complete refresh once in a while - thereby overwriting/losing the updates in the MV.
If that is the case, I suggest using a true table rather than an MV.
    <li>Create table t_table_all as select ... .
<li>Update records in the table - which then is no longer consistent with the source data.
<li>Schedule a job to delete table and insert into table select ... once in a while - thereby overwriting/losing the updates in the table.
In other words a kind of "do it yourself MV".
I cannot see another way at the moment? But perhaps try in the data warehousing forum - the people there may have greater experience with MV's ;-)

  • Help required on UNION ALL for select query

    Hello all,
The execution plan for an SQL is impacted when another SELECT is concatenated with a UNION ALL. The two SELECTS are very efficient when run separately (< 100 buffer gets), but when run together (using a UNION ALL), the execution plan changes (for the first SELECT) and the buffer gets jumps to over 45000!
what customer says with the UNION ALL, Oracle instead of doing a Merge Scan (that allows the inner table to filter out the rows from the outer table), chooses to do a NL join. This results in a Unique Index scan for each one of the 15000 rows in the outer table, resulting in 46000 consistent gets.
Can you please suggest customer why plan changes when they use UNION ALL &  also suggest better way of running query.
Please refer to below explain plan .

  • Union All with Linked Servers - Works until loaded on to the report server then fails.

    Hi,
On our production server I have 2 linked servers.  One that leads to ServiceNow via ODBC and one that leads to an HP Openview database.
Testing these linked servers works fine.  I have a query that obtains info from each source and 'union all' together.  When i run this query in SQL Server management studio it works fine and I get info from both data sources union-ed together perfectly.
I transfer this into Visual Studio and create a report, which again runs perfectly.
I upload this report to the report server and try to run it and get the error:
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
Query execution failed for dataset 'Dataset1'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand)
For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors
When I rummage through the log files for the report server, I find very little helpful errors, basically this:
    ERROR: Throwing Microsoft.ReportingServices.ReportProcessing.ReportProcessingException: , Microsoft.ReportingServices.ReportProcessing.ReportProcessingException: Query execution failed for dataset 'Dataset1'. ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Cannot
    execute the query.
I did a test where I created a copy of the report and ran only he Servicenow  section of the report and it works, then ran only the HP section of the report and it works.  It seems the UNION ALL is the problem somehow.
    Anyone have any ideas??
    Thanks
    Kirsty

    Hi Kirsty,
As you posted, this issue is caused by the security configuration of Linked Server.
Generally, in a domain environment, we can specify a domain account as the stored credentials for the report, and then configure the Linked Server to "Be made using the login’s current security context".
However,if we specify a SQL Server login as the stored credentials for the report, please set the Linked Server security to "By using this security context", and then providing the necessary credentials to authenticate at the linked server.
Please also add the Reporting Services Security role to the Linked Server Remote Server Login Mappings.
