Unique encoding transformation using XSL

i know that when u use xsl to trnsform XML, the standart say it support UTF-8/16
for example in hebrew there are encoding that are not included in UTF-8/16.
is there any option that during the prosses of transformation, the XSL will know whats the local encoding the system it works on and transform by it.

XSL is specified at a model above the character encoding layer, so it shouldn't matter what the input encoding is.
<xsl:output encoding="whatever"/> should do you for encoding the output.
It's unlikely that there are Hebrew characters that cannot be encoded in UTF-8; if they are, they are not Unicode, and so cannot be represented in any XML. Check that you're encoding the input document properly.

• XML transform using XSL

Hi,
I am new to the javax technology.
I have a xml that has data in this format

<emps>
<emp>
<empName>Me</empName>
<empAge>23</empAge>
</emp>
<emp>
<empName>You</empName>
<empAge>23</empAge>
</emp>
</emps>Can i convert this to an XML that has tags and data like
<employees>
<employee>

<age>23</age>
</employee>
<employee>

<age>23</age>
</employee>
</employees>using a XSLT?
thanks,
Dilip

So the only change is changing the element names? Sure you can. Or at least I can. Here's a template that changes an emps element into an employees element and preserves its children:<xsl:template match="emps">
<employees><xsl:apply-templates/></employees>
</xsl:template>Use an identity transformation and put in one of these for each element whose name you want to change.

• Creating an XML From a Deep Structure using XSL Transformation

Hi ABAPers,
I have a requirement to use XSL Transformations on an ABAP deep type structure.
Currently i have an API that fills in this deep structure and by using CALL TRANSFORMATION ID.... i will get the BIG XML having having 100s of nodes . But actualy form the deep structure i need only some NODES (say 50)... So i tried writing an XSLT
in the transaction STRANS.. but on using this TRANSFORMATION which i wrote i am getting an error messgae like INVALID XML...
Am i going in right track or is there a good solution...
My sample transformation is as below...
<xsl:transform version="1.0"
xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
<xsl:strip-space elements="*"/>
<xsl:template match="/">
<xsl:value-of select="DATA/NODE_ELEMENTS/UUID_KEY/UUID"/>
<xsl:value-of select="DATA/NODE_ELEMENTS/SEMANTICAL_NAME"/>
<xsl:value-of select="DATA/NODE_ELEMENTS/STRUCT_CAT"/>
<xsl:value-of select="DATA/NODE_ELEMENTS/USAGE_CAT"/>
<xsl:value-of select="DATA/NODE_ELEMENTS/RESTRICTED_IND"/>
<xsl:value-of select="VALUES/DATA/NODE_ID"/>.
</xsl:template>
</xsl:transform>
Please help me in solving this issue....
Thanks,
Linda.

Hi Linda,
I am replying based on your sample code.
Try the below following suggestions.
here 'GRPHDR' is the node where I am selecting the data.
IGRPHDR is the name of the reference.
First calling the transformation in you program.
TYPES: BEGIN OF tl_hdr,
msgid(20)    TYPE c,
END OF tl_hdr.
DATA : t_hdr TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF tl_hdr.
GET REFERENCE OF t_hdr INTO l_result_xml-value.
l_result_xml-name = 'IGRPHDR'.
APPEND l_result_xml TO t_result_xml.
TRY.
CALL TRANSFORMATION yfi_xml_read
SOURCE XML it_xml_data
RESULT (t_result_xml).
CATCH cx_root INTO l_rif_ex.
l_var_text = l_rif_ex->get_text( ).
l_bapiret-type = 'E'.
l_bapiret-message = l_var_text.
APPEND l_bapiret TO errormsgs.
EXIT.
ENDTRY.
in XSL transformation
First write a block of statement to specify from which node you are taking the data.
No matter it is a node or sub-node.
<xsl:transform xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" version="1.0">
<xsl:output encoding="iso-8859-1" indent="yes" method="xml" version="1.0"/>
<xsl:strip-space elements="*"/>
<xsl:template match="/">
<asx:abap xmlns:asx="http://www.sap.com/abapxml" version="1.0">
<asx:values>
<IGRPHDR> " reference name of internal table
<xsl:apply-templates select="//GrpHdr"/>
</IGRPHDR>
</asx:values>
</asx:abap>
</xsl:template>
Next select the data from the nodes under the nodes specified in the transformation.
here msgid is the field i am selecting for value.
<xsl:template match="GrpHdr">

<MSGID> " field in the internal table t_hdr where data has to go
<xsl:value-of select="MsgId"/>
</MSGID>

</xsl:template>
reply back if further clarification is needed.

• ENTITIES and transforming XML to XML/HTML using XSL

I am going absolutely nuts. When using XSL to transform an XML
file to HTML or another XML schema, critical entities dissappear.
For example:
<oldtag>press "any" key</oldtag>
will get rendered to
<newtag>press "any" key</newtag>
by the XML/XSL parser, which is not valid HTML or XML.
How do I preserve these entities through the transformation
process. Escaping the text (in the XML source) with ]]
is not possible in this case.--Michael
null

Assuming you can't use a CDATA in the DTD to prevent parsing,
then my suggestion would be to use the XSL stylesheet to restore
the entities as there is no way that I am aware of that will set
conditional expansion.

Looks like you might not have imported the xsl within the project. When you import the files from outside your project you have to have "Add to project" checked.
Check if you see the xsl file within the project folder.

• Transform LiveCycle form xml output using xsl

I've completed my first form but now want to format the xml that's generated.
Whilst I work for a big Company, I don't think they'll stretch to purchasing the Reader Extensions Module so I can output as PDF. Also there will be more than 500 users completing the form, so I can't just extend the rights using Adobe Acrobat.
Therefore, I'd like to transform the xml created using xsl (as I have knowledge in this area) - I'd like the transformation to occur when the form is submitted via email so that a 'friendly' attachment is added to the email and not the xml output.
Any ideas on this one?

First thing is, the fonts did not work in my system.. So I can not really understand where the email address fields are..
Few things:
1) You have used an Email submit button and tried to place the code in the MouseDown event.
You need to change this button to "Regular Type Button". and place the code in the Click event to work.
2) I placed a sample button and put in my code for your reference.. This is working fine..You can check the below sample.
https://acrobat.com/#d=tQa4E*8aA*mJq6aijSHuDQ
3) You can do the same way for your form..
4) If you have Acrobat software, you can enable JavaScript debugger which can give you the specific error message rather than Submit cancelled. If you do not, then you need to put some messageBox statements and check..
Thanks

• Problem transforming XML/XSL Using Xalan

Hi, I am using the xalan apis to transform XML/XSL in a servlet..My servlet code is like...
response.setContentType("text/html; charset=UTF-8");
// Output goes in the response stream.
PrintWriter out = response.getWriter();
boolean environmentOK = (new org.apache.xalan.xslt.EnvironmentCheck()).checkEnvironment (out);
try
TransformerFactory tFactory = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
// Get the XML input document and the stylesheet.
Source xmlSource = new StreamSource("D:\\DATA\\jrun\\test\\test.xml");
Source xslSource = new StreamSource("D:\\DATA\\jrun\\test\\test.xsl");
// Generate the transformer.
Transformer transformer = tFactory.newTransformer(xslSource);
// Perform the transformation, sending the output to the response.
transformer.transform(xmlSource, new StreamResult(out));
I am getting the error ..
javax.xml.transform.TransformerConfigurationException: javax.xml.transform.TransformerException: org.xml.sax.SAXException: Namespace not supported by SAXParserjavax.xml.transform.TransformerConfigurationException
That's why I have added the line..
boolean environmentOK = (new org.apache.xalan.xslt.EnvironmentCheck()).checkEnvironment (out);
But that gives me the following error diagnostic information...
ERROR.version.DOM=ERROR attempting to load DOM level 2 class: java.lang.NoSuchMethodException
I have put all the 3 required classes, xml-apis.jar, xercesImpl.jar and xalan.jar in my application servers classpath..
Please let me know what I am doing wrong..and how this can be fixed.
Thanks
Surajit

hey Surajit
Your code is unable to create a transformer from a factory instance.
I would check why it is not creating the Transformer.On my win32 system i usee two forward slashes..to identify the file path
D://xyz//abc....instead of D:\\...i wonder if thats one reason why your code is not able to create a transformer based on the StreamSource u create for the file paths.
Code i use..that works
javax.xml.transform.TransformerFactory tFactory =
javax.xml.transform.TransformerFactory.newInstance();
javax.xml.transform.Source xmlSource = new javax.xml.transform.stream.StreamSource                              (xmlInputSource);
javax.xml.transform.Source xslSource = new javax.xml.transform.stream.StreamSource
(xslInputSource);
// Generate the transformer.
javax.xml.transform.Transformer transformer = tFactory.newTransformer(xslSource);
// Perform the transformation, sending the output to the response.
transformer.transform(xmlSource,new javax.xml.transform.stream.StreamResult(out));
I used jaxp-1.2 with tomcat 4.1.12
Hope that helps.

Your PL/SQL code doesn't produce a valid XML document.
In the XML grammar, "&" is a special character and must be escaped using the character entity "&".
If you were using standard methods to build XML from Oracle (SQL/XML functions for instance), I'm sure you wouldn't have this error.
Please show us the PL/SQL code you're using to produce this XML output and we'll be able to help you further.

Hi Giselle,
I think it's possible (using xsl:if for instance), but an easier way is to nest your internal tables declarations (wtab_o inside wtab, kunnr becomes useless, and wtab_p inside wtab_o), and use the SAP standard "ID" transformation (no need for a custom XSL transformation). You'll get a slightly different result, but I don't think you want something very sophisticated.

• XSLT : Problem using xsl:value-of disable-output-escaping="yes"

Hello,
I have some problem using "disable-output-escaping" attribute of xsl:value-of() function.
I have a table SONGS with two columns XML and XSL filled with :
<song>

Isn't she lovely?

</song>
<xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" version="1.0">
<xsl:output method="xml" encoding="UTF-8"></xsl:output>
<xsl:template match="//song">
<out>
<xsl:value-of select="title" disable-output-escaping="yes"></xsl:value-of>
</out>
</xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>The query to transform XML with XSL :
SELECT XMLTRANSFORM (xml, xsl) FROM songs;I get this XML :
<out>Isn't she lovely?</out>but I want that (without the '&' special character) :
<out>Isn't she lovely?</out>How can I procees to succeed ?
Thanks,
Dominique

What DB version?
The following SQL
select xmltransform(XMLTYPE('<song>

Isn''t she lovely?

</song>'), XMLTYPE('<xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" version="1.0">
<xsl:output method="xml" encoding="UTF-8"></xsl:output>
<xsl:template match="//song">
<out>
<xsl:value-of select="title" disable-output-escaping="yes"></xsl:value-of>
</out>
</xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>'))
from dual;produces this on 11.1.0.6

<out>Isn't she lovely?</out>and this on 10.2.0.4
<out>Isn't she lovely?</out>I found a couple of previous discussions regarding this at

The last discussion provides a workaround if you need it.

• XML Transformation using XSLT

Hi,
I have a scenario where I need to perform an XML to XML transformation and I need to do this using XSLT mapping.
I am using XMLSpy.
Could somebody help me on this issue?Any weblogs that can help me on this?
regards,
Prashanth

Hi Prashanth,
You can do the xsl transformation in XMLSpy itself.First create your source xml file in XMLSpy by selecting file type as xml.After that create your xslt program file by selecting file type as xslt.
Then you can use the xslt program for transformation of source xml into target xml by choosing menu XSL/XQuery->XSL Transformation.
sample xsl code for an example:
source xml structure:

<root>

<detail>
Detail1
</detail>
<detail>
Detail2
</detail>

<detail>
Detail3
</detail>

</root>
xsl program:
<xsl:stylesheet version = '1.0'
xmlns:xsl='http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform'>
<xsl:template match="/">
<root>
<xsl:for-each select="//header">
<idoc>
<xsl:for-each select="detail">
<detail>
<xsl:value-of select="."/>
</detail>
</xsl:for-each>
</idoc>
</xsl:for-each>
</root>
</xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>
target xml structure:

<root>
<idoc>
<detail>
Detail1
</detail>
<detail>
Detail2
</detail>
</idoc>
<idoc>
<detail>
Detail3
</detail>
</idoc>
</root>
Hope this would help.

• Help:displaying Arabic characters using XSL

How do I display static Arabic characters using XSL in a HTML page, from within a JSP?
I need to display a HTML page wherein static Arabic characters have to be shown. I use the following XSL document with static Arabic characters inside:

<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
<xsl:output method="html"/>
<xsl:template match="/">

<xsl:apply-templates/>

</xsl:template>

<xsl:template match="booklist">

^GFcI cSGZOI

This will illustrate the transformation of XML file containing list of books to a HTML table form

<xsl:apply-templates/>

</xsl:template>
<xsl:template match="booklist/book">

<xsl:template match="booklist/book/publisher"/>
<xsl:template match="booklist/book/price"> Price: $
<xsl:apply-templates/>
</xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>
When I try to read the XSL document using an IO stream, like this,
InputStream is = getClass().getResourceAsStream("myXSLDocument.xsl");
XSLStylesheet stylesheet = new XSLStylesheet(inputStream, null);
from within a JSP, I get a null pointer exception as shown below:

I have no problems parsing the same XSL containing static Arabic text using Transviewer beans' XSLTransformPanelSample class. This means that my XSL has no errors in it.
null

You need to use the correct and the same character encoding (charset) thorough the complete process.
Whenever you get question marks, then it means that the charset used does not recognize the bytes (which on its turn are apparently encoded by a different charset).
This is an important read, read it from top to bottom, preferably twice: [http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/Unicode.html].

• Character encoding problem using XSLT and Tomcat on Linux

Hi,
I have an application running on a Tomcat 4.1.18 application server that applies XSLT transformations to DOM objects using standard calls to javax.xml.transform API. The JDK is J2SE 1.4.1_01.
It is all OK while running on a development enviroment (which is Windows NT 4.0 work station), but when I put it in the production enviroment (which is a red hat linux 8.0), it comes up with some kind of encoding problem: the extended characters (in spanish) are not shown as they should.
The XSL stylesheets are using the ISO-8859-1 encoding, but I have also tried with UTF-8.
These stylesheets are dynamicly generated from a JSP:
// opens a connection to a JSP that generates the XSL
URLConnection urlConn = (new URL( xxxxxx )).openConnection();
Reader readerJsp = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader( urlConn.getInputStream() ));
// Gets the object that represents the XSL
Templates translet = tFactory.newTemplates( new StreamSource( readerJsp ));
Transformer transformer = translet.newTransformer();
// applies transformations
// the output is sent to the HttpServletResponse's outputStream object
transformer.transform(myDOMObject, new StreamResult(response.getOutputStream()) );Any help would be appreciated.

Probably you need to set your LANG OS especific environment variable to spanish.
Try adding this line:
export LANG=es_ES
to your tomcat/bin/catalina.sh, and restart tomcat.
It should look like this:
# OS specific support. $var _must_ be set to either true or false.
cygwin=false
case "`uname`" in
CYGWIN*) cygwin=true;;
esac
export LANG=es_ES
# resolve links - $0 may be a softlink
PRG="$0"
.(BTW, keep using ISO-8859-1 encoding for your XSL)
