Unique Situation OSX 10.9.1/HotFolders

We have a ReadyNas3200 that is up to date.
We have a Windows computer running panther rip software. It's monitoring hot folders that are on the ReadyNAS. The issue is when a Mac is writing files to the hot folders Windows-based machine does not wait until the file is written fully resulting in an error.
AFP
The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “SOME FILE NAME” can’t be read or written.
(Error code -36)
CIFS
The operation can?t be completed because one or more required items can?t be found.
(Error code -43)
The only way I can get this to work is if we shut the rip software off, allow the users to copy their files over and then turn the rip software on, everything works as expected. For some reason the windows machine does not see that the file is busy and tries to pick it up.
I was hoping someone could chime in and maybe help us out with a solution. I feel like it is a issue with the readyNas unit but Worth posting here just incase someone has an idea.

  • Blue screen of death for Mac? Unique situation here... need help please!

    Hi,
I've been a Mac User for about 2 years and I'm here because my iMac just crapped out last night for some reason. I apologize for making a new topic because someone might have had the same situation somewhere but I searched for about an hour and couldn't find anything that fell under the same circumstances as my problem. I'll try to use as much details as possible.
Okay, I was downloading programs, not Shapeshifter or anything funny, (a to-do list and a network security program to be exact) and then the network security program, Little Snitch, said I had to restart after installing. Big whoop, I thought. Then, this little pop-up came up and said, "Before restarting the computer... updating cache". I can't remember exact wording but it said something about updating cache upon restart. I think this is the clincher, but I tried booting in safe mode and my computer won't make that noise so I don't know when to hold Shift? Why won't it make the noise? Well, upon installing Leopard, sometimes my sound/volume icon will disappear. I have to restart like five times before it starts to show up sometimes and my sound won't work. So, I'm guessing safe mode isn't an option unless there's some other way to do it.
    Here's a screenshot of what I'm seeing:
    http://img87.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img0384un3.jpg
I restarted 3 times and it was just coming up as a mouse pointer but this morning it's doing this. I had cleanly installed Leopard two months ago and never had any problems so again, it's not Leopard to my knowledge and it's not ShapeShifter or any program like that because I know there's a guide about fixing a problem with ShapeShifter.
I read the article that's always recommend after INSTALLING Leopard, but I've had 2 months of grace period before this happened. When I get home, I'm going to try Option C but I would like to hear anybody else's suggestions.
What can I do, fellas? Thanks in advance.

Okay, solved this problem. Evidently, one of the programs I downloaded was bundled with ApplicationEnhancer. It has to be one of the following:
    LittleSnitch - most likely
    2Remember
    ButtonDesign
    WireTapPro
I corrected it by following Option C of this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306857
    Which reads:
    1. Start up in single-user mode by holding Command-S after restarting the computer. Note that single-user mode always uses the US English keyboard layout.
    2. Type these commands, each on a single line followed by Return:
    /sbin/fsck -fy
    /sbin/mount -uw /
    rm -rf /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/ApplicationEnhancer.bundle
    reboot
    Thanks, everyone! Happy 2008!

  • IPhoto Missing Photos, Unique Situation

    Hi everybody,
I am in what I believe to be (after a bit of Googling and forum searching) in a unique position with my iPhoto Library. The library in question used to be maintained without keeping copies in the actual library (by using the relevant option in iPhoto Preferences), as I like to maintain my own folder hierarchy for the actual photo file storage. However, after a hard drive upgrade and the move to iPhoto '08, I decided I'd like to change this. Before moving to '08, though, I needed a way to get all my then-aliased photos into the library itself. So, I used a program called Synk (basically a backup program) which was able to resolve all the aliases to photos elsewhere and replace them with the actual photos in my iPhoto library.
The old system and paths have since been replaced (due in no small part to a hard drive crash), and I'm now having an issue with those photos whose links no longer work. Apparently, said links weren't working during the resolution of the aliases, and so a number of broken links made their way into the new library and are now still there. And, unfortunately, those photos were stored on a drive which no longer exists, meaning anytime I try to click on one of those photos, iPhoto gives me the spinning beach ball of death for a minute or two (per photo) as it tries to connect to that drive. When it finally fails, it brings up the "Could not find this photo" dialogue box and gives me the option to find it, but to do this for all the missing links (as there are quite a few) would be extremely tedious.
So, I'm wondering what ideas people have as to go about restoring my library. I still have all (or at least most) of the missing photos in question on disk; they're just not properly linked. And I'd really like to keep all my tagging, renaming, and comment info for the photos that are there, given I've done extensive work in these areas. Thanks for any help.

    CyberMonk:
I hope you didn't use Synk on the entire library package. Because it cannot parse the database file's contents which is the heart and soul of the library. I'm afraid you may not be able to resurrect the library.
Since the links for the alias files are broken unless you can re-link each file you'll have to start over from scratch by creating a new, empty library and importing the photos again. I don't know of any application that can do that.
Do you get a warning window when double clicking on a thumbnail indicating that the original file cannot be found and asks if you'd like to find it? If so, if you can find and re-link one photo in an event it may re-link all of the photos in that event as they are all in the same folder. But you have to be able to get to that warning window.
If the above fails I strongly recommend you setup a "managed" library to prevent this type of problem again.
You could run a managed library of all your photos on the external HD and have a smaller library on the laptop for the most current and those you need. You can use the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager to manage the multiple libraries and copy files via albums or event between the two while maintaining the keywords, comments and title.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Set-up of a Forest Trust - Unique situation

I am in need of advice on how to setup a forest trust between to separate, but similar forests.
My AD server is Server 2012R2, their AD server is Server 2008R2.
We are a small community college in the process of separating from our parent university, current the parent university has AD services for both domains ( theirname.edu and ourname.edu) I have built a completely new & separate AD server on a different
network using the same ourname.edu as the parent university is currently using.
Is it possible to setup a forest trust between the NEW ourname.edu and the old ourname.edu?
We are trying to get the NEW AD server up and running so as that it can be fully functional by users, also this trust is so we can migrate our student & employees user data from the OLD AD to our NEW AD using ADMT tool or something similar.

You can't create a trust between two domains/forest with the same name.  How would the client know where to go to when referencing the name?
One thing to consider is a radical pruning situation.  You could introduce a new server in the theirname.edu and promote it as a new DC.  Then physically remove it from the domain and
NEVER all it to talk to the theirname.edu ever again.  In the theirname.edu do a metadata cleanup of this recently promoted DC to remove all references of the DC.
    http://blogs.dirteam.com/blogs/paulbergson/archive/2009/06/09/active-directory-cleanup-the-most-common-question-i-see.aspx
Now sieze all FSMO roles on the DC you just removed and consider this the first DC in your forest.  Go back within this forest and do a metadata cleanup of all the old DC's.
You now have a duplicate forest that should be cleaned up removing all users and computers that didn't transfer from the original domain.  The old domain should also cleanup all unused accounts and computers as well.
Just be aware that pruning isn't supported by Microsoft, but this is a known practice in mergers and divestures:

  • Freezing during Syncing, Unique situation

I have read all the people who are having issues with their Classic Syncing. Well I got a 120gig classic for Christmas, and I have the same problem. My itunes library is on an external hard drive. It will freeze when the library is on that disc, however if I move the library to my internal hd it will sync with no issues. I have checked the external and it seems to pass all hardware tests, so I think there must be something with the USB system.
It will get so far and freeze and the only way to unfreeze itunes is to turn the external hd off (yikes!).
Anyone with the same situation, and obviously any ideas on resolving the issue would be appreciated.
I did reinstall itunes and the combo update 10.5.6 Still no luck.

I believe First Aid which is part of the OS-X Disk Utility can do this...
    From http://kb.iu.edu/data/adhu.html
To check your startup disk, you must run First Aid from your software installation CD or DVD. Insert the disc, restart your computer, and hold the c key down while restarting to force your computer to boot from the CD or DVD. Follow the instructions on the screen, and when the menu bar appears, from the Utilities (Mac OS X 10.5), Disk Utilities (Mac OS X 10.4), or Installer (Mac OS X 10.3) menu, select Disk Utility. In the column on the left, select the volume you want to repair, and then on the right, click the First Aid tab. You may select multiple volumes by holding down the Cmd key while clicking the volumes.
Click Verify Disk to begin a verification process (a simple check for errors), or Repair Disk to verify and repair any problems on the selected volume(s). You can stop the scan at any time by clicking Stop Verify or Stop Repair.
or perphaps the Mac users here have better suggestions...

  • My iTunes will not open. This is a unique situation.

    Hello all,
I've been using iTunes for a long time and just recently it won't work. I click on the friendly little icon and then an error message pops up. The message doesn't tell me what the error is, but that I can send one of those stupid error reports. I've tried all the things on the service site and I don't know what to do.

I have followed instructions found elsewhere to do the following:
•“C:\Program Files\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exe” -remove (Note: delete the quotes displayed here and type again using keyboard)
•Navigate to the following folder in Windows Explorer: C:\Program Files\Bonjour
•Rename the mdnsNSP.dll file in that folder to mdnsNSP.old
    •Restart your computer
•Delete the the Program Files\Bonjour folder
All successful, now there is nothing that has anything to do with iTunes , Quictime, Apple Software Update, Bonjuor,...etc on my machine, now what do I install so I can get iTunes to work on Win 7 x 64 bit edition... ?
    Thanks,
    Rick

  • How do I sync my iPhone 5S contacts to iCloud (I think I have a unique situation)

I've been scouring the internet all day and tried all sorts of things to get my phone to sync with iCloud.
I added a new contact today and just for fun made sure it was syncing with iCloud online. It wasn't. I did everything I could think of to get it to sync. I turned off Contacts and turned them back on, I deleted all the contacts on ICloud and then refreshed them with my iPhone contacts in the hopes that it would add them. I also tried various methods of trying to work with iCloud and Gmail and switching them on and off. That is, I went into the Mail, Contacts, Calendars on the Iphone and switched the default from Gmail to ICloud and back again.
To make a long story short: When I deleted the contacts from the iCloud website, it replaced them, but with an older version of my contacts! It didn't add my new contacts, nor my duplicates which by this time were triplicate because of the merging that I have done.
Any idea how this happened? What can I do to get it syncing again? I don't care about duplicates right now, I just want the right contacts to sync.
I have an iCloud account and a Gmail account, but I don't sync my gmail contacts. I use my gmail address as my iCloud login, if that makes a difference.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

"Forcing a backup in iCloud" -  Went to settings/icloud/storage and backup/ back up now
I just did what you suggested and it worked. The Test Contact showed up. So, I deleted the contact I added today and readded it and it showed up almost immediately into iCloud.com.
Perhaps there was something wonky with the previous contact. Any ideas? It seems to be working well now. Thank you for your help.

  • *Unique situation* Please read if you know about iPod not showing up . . .

Okay. This may take awhile to explain, but here's the story. . .
So I recently bought a macbook. I wanted to transfer all of my old files from my G4 cube to my Macbook but didn't haev a firewire cable. So I decided to use my 20GB iPod. I plugged it in to my cube. To do a test run, I put one file on my ipod, ejected it safetly and plugged it in my macbook. I successfully took the file off. Success! So I decided it was time to put everythign on the iPod. I plugged it back in my Cube (this is seriously all taking place in a matter of minutes) and the ipod does not register. On the screen it says "do not disconnect" but it's not on my desktop or itunes. I remove it, try again, restart and everything. No dice. I then put it back on my macbook and it worked again. It continued to work on my macbook and not on my cube after several trials. So I decided to restore my iPod. I did just that. Problem unresolved. Next, I go to the disk utility program, and it's there! But it's in a lighter shade than the other files. I decided to go to options and try "mount," but nothing occurs. And that's where I am now. A restored iPod, and still no solution. Any advice is GLADLY appreciated. How could the tables turn like this in five minutes time?

Run through the installation procedure. When asked for the destination drive, click on the Menu option next to the blue Apple in the top left-hand side of the screen (I think it's labelled 'Installer') and there should be an option labelled 'Disk Utility'. From here, you should be able to see your disk drive and reformat it so that it can be used in the installation. Give it a bash and tell us how it goes.

  • No Bootable Drive Found, I HAVE UNIQUE SITUATION

Hello everyone, I would really appreciate some help!
I have a MacBook Pro and I've been trying to download Window 7 on it. Basically, I finally got a bootable flashdrive with Windows 7 on it. I have two actually. One made by Bootcamp, (Someone on youtube showed that altering info.plist on Bootcamp makes Bootcamp format ISO on USB) and one made by a Microsoft program from a different computer WITH windows 7 on it. Now, after formatting however, and after the disk partitions itself, the computer restarts and it says No Bootable Drive Found, Insert Bootable Drive and press any key, or something like that. I RESTARTED WHILE PRESSING ALT-OPTION and the only two things coming up are the Mac OS X , and the recovery. Now, the person with the video has the same model computer as mine and it worked for him, SO PLEASE Don't comment by saying it's impossible. Does someone know the problem? I'm sure the USB is bootable.

    iTheoGamer wrote:

How do you know you have the "exact same problem"? The original poster did not tell us his model and year Macbook Pro, neither did you. So you may or may not have the same problem. If your Macbook Pro came with an internal optical drive, you must use that to install Windows. Until you know for sure that you have the "exact same problem", start your own thread and provide more details.

  • Transferring Music Between Computers With Ipod (Very Unique Situation)

My Ipod has about 300+ songs on it that aren't on my old desktop (Windows)and I would like to know if I can get those 300 songs off the Ipod and onto my new MacBook Pro. I looked at the tutorial for how to do this and I saw two problems I would need to address. The first is the guide says something about not being able to move the files from a PC to a Mac and the second is it talks about updating the files on the ipod which I can't do since the files I want to find aren't on there. Can I move these files without updating the Ipod? Oh and by the way I moved all the other files over to the MacBook.

There's a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to your Mac at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
If you prefer something more automated there are also a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. I use Senuti but check the others out and choose whichever you are happy with.
    Senuti Mac Only
    iPodRip Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
    iPod.iTunes Mac Only
    PodView Mac Only
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
There is also a new function in iTunes 7 under File, "Transfer Purchases from iPod" which transfers iTMS purchases. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting to your MacBook and an empty iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No* (or "Cancel" if you are using iTunes 7). Pressing "Yes" (or Erase and Sync in iTunes 7) will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod will appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. In iTunes 7 Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing content manually on iPod
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

  • Unique situation - have not found anyone else with this one

    Here goes:
PowerMac G5 running 10.4.4 was purring along nicely on Windows network, no problems for months. Strange power outage in that office. Power restored, computer boots fine.
Here's the interesting problem - everytime it goes to acquire a DHCP address, it finds that it's in conflict with MAC address xxxx.xxxx.xxxx. It quickly tries to grab a new one, but again shows a conflict - but continues to use the same MAC address as a "conflict" until it uses up all the IP addresses in the DHCP leasing scope, not allowing anyone else to acquire a new one.
OK - why not try assigning it a static IP - same problem - just starts popping up error after error - all the same MAC address - sequential IP addresses.
Try moving it to another port on the wall - did that - different office in same building, still same issue.
Moving it to a different network - now works fine - accepts its IP.
Trying another Mac at original location - same problem.
Trying PC at original location - no problem.
Searched network for annoying MAC address - does not seem to exist. Tried swapping out network card - same problem. Checked switches for ARP entries and looked at the MAC tables - no sign of the malignant MAC address.
And the clincher - have other Macs on the same network - no problems.
Except for that port on that wall - with any Mac - problem - with PC - no problem.
That particular Mac anywhere else in the same building - problem - other Macs in same building no problem.
Needless to say - it's been extremely frustrating. Does anyone have any ideas what I should check for? Thanks in advance.

I found my old iPod and wanted to use since my Nano dosent hold as many files. Well I got the software all updated but now I get this symbol on my screen to plug some power chord in, which I dont have. I cant reset it, and the USB Plug-in dosent Identify it, so I cant restore my iPod either. Any Suggestions?
    Thank You

Older iPods require you to connect to a power source after they are updated with newer firmware.
There's really not much you can do at this point, other than find a power source for it.

  • Importing mboxes - unique situation

    Hi,
My laptop crashed and-so I have the hard drive in an external case now. I am trying to access only certain ones of my mboxes on a friend's PowerPC G5. He has the same OS, 10.3.9, and his Mac Mail is 1.3.11, but I can't remember if my version was newer or not.
I cannot import my drafts.mbox, nor my soundinfo.mbox, which are the only 2 I'm interested in. Although his computer displays a mailbox icon (picture) for them, his Mail import function doesn't allow me to even click on my mbox files. Any thoughts?
I copied only these two items onto his desktop. Am I missing something else I might need from my old Mail folder in order to make this work?
Does it matter that his computer is set for Spanish and mine was set for English?
    Thank you!

    Hi Cumie.
Be sure to follow the instructions and select what Mail is asking for. It could be that it expects you to select the folder that contains the mailboxes rather than the mailboxes themselves.

  • Very Unique situation . . .

Well, I bought my iBook about a month or so before leaving to work in Japan (which was in mid July), and I only RECENTLY discovered the joys of iMovie and iDVD. I would LOVe to burn a DVD now and send it to my friends and family, but I'd like to do some research/get advice on what's the best one to get, etc. Most of my movies will be less than 30 minutes long by the way.
So I wanted to make sure that 1) The DVDs I burn can be played in most if not all DVD players back in the USA
    AND
    2) That it will be compatible with my drive/be recognized by my computer.
I have the iBook G4, 512 MB RAM, 1.2 ghz processor . . . and of course it has Tiger on it. Let me know if anybody else has questions on this.
So after those questions are answered, I'm also wondering if anybody has ever shipped overseas, or if Apple or a US company even does that. I recently searched for an external DVD drive here in Japan, and found one compatible with my Mac, but everything was in Japanese and I think the DVDs might burn in region 2 only.
So I hope somebody can help me, or at least point me in the right direction.
    Thanks

I don't have a camcorder yet (I plan on buying a Digital Video camcorder over here in Japan). Is that going to be a problem when I want to use video? At the moment I have just been using my digital camera for the photo segments. I will make sure to do that with my camera when I finally buy it though.
Well, since iDVD makes region free DVDs, could I buy a Japanese external DVD drive and just burn it from there? You should be able to play the region free in every DVD player. I wouldn't see a need for changing it to NTSC if that's the case. And I'm not going for the super professional look just yet. Just something to test the waters out with.

  • IPhone 4 apple logo loop after update, unique problem.

Please take the time to fully read this question before copying and pasting the generic apple help links please
Okay so today I decided to update my phone to the latest iOS version, and upon completion I got the infinite apple logo loop problem. The standard approach I know is to do the recovery solution on your itunes. Well, here lies the problem. My laptop which has my iTunes is currently badly broken, and cannot be used. I thought that oh I'd be able to use my iTunes account on a different computer, but to my annoyance, my password is different to the one I use to confirm IAP. So I try the recovery methods, first birthday. My birthday is wrong, tried a varied range to no avail. Tried email, non of my 3 only used emails work, till I look and see the Apple ID email is slightly different to the ones I currently use, but I can't even create the email it uses as I don't know of any way I can make a .co.uk email now.
So I am stuck in a very unique situation, need to recover my iPhone via iTunes, but my iTunes can't be accessed. Is there anyway around this or am I completely screwed? I don't want to just cut my losses and make a new Apple ID/wipe my phone as I have lots of much needed information in my notes etc that I can't afford to lose and that I don't remember by heart.
Any constructive responses would be greatly appreciated.

if it is stuck in a reboot loop and u HAVE to do a recovery mode restore. there is no choice. u will have to get rid of that information. call applecare (1-800-275-2273) to get help with getting access to ur apple id, but for now, u need to get ur phone working first.
to help with a loop problem sometimes a hard reset will work. hold down the power button and the home button at the same time for 20 seconds. its kinda like holding down the power button on a computer.
if that doesnt work then u will need to place it into recovery mode and do a restore. that WILL delete what is on the phone currently but if u have a back up either on itunes or icloud u can restore that back up onto the phone afterwards.
