Unison broken after recent sysupgrade

Hi All,
Fairly new to Arch but I've been running Linux for quite a while.  I use Unison to keep various files in sync between my laptop, desktop, etc.  For the most part, it  usually works great for me.
Unison was set up and working fine between my Arch laptop and some of my other machines (Ubuntu and Debian based).  However, after a recent pacman -Su, I'm having troubles.  Every time I run Unison, I get a message like the following:
Waiting for changes from server
Reconciling changes
Dumping archives to ~/unison.dump on both hosts
Finished dumping archives
Fatal error: Internal error: New archives are not identical.
Retaining original archives. Please run Unison again to bring them up to date.
Unfortunately, running Unison again doesn't fix this.  I've tried "brainwashing" unison by deleting the archive files on both hosts, but I get the same message the very next time I run Unison.
I compared hex dumps of the archive files in vimdiff and found that there were a few bytes that were different between the two archives, but I don't know the binary format of the Unison archive files so I don't understand what the differences mean.
Conveniently, I kept a log of the output of pacman during my recent -Su, and Unison was NOT upgraded at that time, although openssh was (I somehow tricked myself into thinking that unison wasn't upgraded, but my log clearly shows it was).  I'm currently running Unison 2.40.65 on all of my machines.  It was working fine on my Arch laptop before the -Su, and still works on my Debian/Ubuntu boxes.
Any thoughts?  Is anybody else running into this problem?
Thanks!
-Jeremy

  • X/XFCE broken after recent upgrade

I just upgraded, and I am having some issues with X that don't match up with anything else posted recently.  I am running XFCE on a GeForce 9800 GT, and I have a dual-monitor setup.
    When I run
    startxfce
both screens start up fine, but the mouse is the X 'X' instead of a pointer, and when one window is open I cannot interact with other windows, or change between them with alt-tab or the like.  To get a terminal I am sshing in from another machine.
I have tried downgrading xorg-server and the nvidia package, with no result or I lose the ability to start X entirely.  Here is my xorg.conf:

I'm not sure what else to play with/downgrade, and I'm not sure what caused these problems, they started after a reboot.  Any ideas?

I tried downgrading xorg-server-common along with xorg-server (both from version 1.13.0-3 to 1.13.0-2) and rebooted, with no change.  I do not have an older version of xf86-input-evdev.
I notice that xfce4-settings has been upgraded recently (10/20) but I do not have an older version of that either.

  • OWA broken after recent updates.

Following recent updates to SBS 2011 Standard server OWA is no longer work (and I believe activesync is also broken).
I have tried using the UpdateCas.ps1 powershell script. And rebuilt owa virtual directory from within the EMC.
Following that I have updated Exchange to RU5 for Exchange 2010 SP3 using windows update and rebooted ...
None of the above have made any difference and OWA is still broken and displays as below.
Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analyzer for Active Sync also fails with a 403 - Forbidden: Access is denied error.
Can someone please advise ASAP as this is extremely annoying and one of numerous problems since moving to SBS 2011 that has required a great deal of time and searching online to fix.
Thanks in advance for any responses.
    Phil Ellett

    Hi Phil:
Afaik there were no updates that caused the behavior you experienced for any greater number of installations.  The thing about updates is they usually call for an restart and it is often the restart that discloses an issue.  The best practice advice
is to restart before patching and review the event logs then patch.
The failure of the connectivity analyzer has me puzzled as it tests for a response from the Exchange server using public DNS to find the server.  So the number of links in the chain include Exchange being completely off line, the firewall not
forwarding port 25 to the SBS IP, and the public DNS MX record not pointing to the correct address.  If you post up the email domain we can check some of this for you.  But a quick check is to use telnet (IP address) 25 where IP address is the SBS
server from the LAN and the public IP of the firewall from outside the LAN.  The Exchange server should answer.  Note there is a chance port 25 might be blocked by the ISP from where you test outside the LAN so you may have to get someone else to
    test.
Turn up diagnostic logging in ESM for the exchange server and see if you can turn up anything in the Event Viewer.  And as always, run the SBS BPA and fix anything it finds.

  • Setxkbmap gb -variant colemak broken after recent update

    Hi all,
my British English colemak keyboard layout is broken in that all the keys on the bottom row seem to have moved to the left. I have a t42 thinkpad, and normally pressing the keys z,x,c,v would also print the same characters on the screen. but after I did the big update yesterday (which was due to libjpeg I think) when I press "zxcv" what I get is "xcvb" for example. This problem just seems to affect the bottom row, the other two rows are fine.
Does anybody know how I can fix this?

well, if anybody else has this problem, see here http://forum.colemak.com/viewtopic.php?pid=6176#p6176 for the reason and the solution.

  • Gtk-window-decorator themes in XFCE/Compiz broken after recent upgrade

I allowed my arch linux upgrades to slide for a while - probably nearly a month - and just did a system upgrade and reboot today. After rebooting, I am stuck with GTK's default Adwaita window borders, which use a lot of real estate, and GTK3 apps like nautilus have a solid black border around the windows.
I have tried changing the theme with theme-switch2, I have rebooted a couple of times, replaced the window manager with xfwm4 and then gone back to gtk-window-decorator, all with no change. Other aspect of the theme - fonts and colors - work fine, but the window decorator theme just won't change.
The following commands have no effect:
    gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences theme Numix
    gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface gtk-theme Numix
Here is an example of the black box around nautilus.
Possibly unrelated, but when I start gnome-tweak-tool, which allows me to change the theme, I get the following message:

I am no expert in themes, so I am completely stumped by this whole problem. Any ideas anyone?

MikeDacre, there is a known issue whereby a change in GTK 3.16 means that Compiz isn't getting the frame extents for CSD windows. It's being discussed in the following Compiz branch: https://code.launchpad.net/~3v1n0/compi … rge/250015
I'm not entirely sure whether this is the relevant issue for you; my CSD windows don't have black borders but they do have a thin light grey border all the way around which negates the rounding of the top corners. You could try building Compiz from the branch I mentioned but just to warn you I've already tried and it didn't do anything for me. The bottom line is, the Compiz team need to fix Compiz for CSD and until they do, expect there to be problems.

  • Python3 broken after recent upgrade

Python3 has stopped working on my system.
calling python|3 from the command line gives:
Fatal Python error: Py_Initialize: Unable to get the locale encoding
    ImportError: No module named 'encodings'
    Aborted (core dumped)
so Py-Initialize fails while it tries to load encodings. This suggests there may be something wrong with the python path.
However, I never messed with the PYTHONPATH or PYTHONHOME variables. Indeed, I never use python3myself, only python2.
I tried using strace on the call to python3 and here is a fragment of the output just before python3 crashes:

Your first answer was better, it shouldn't output anything unless you have packages that put libs elsewhere.

  • After recently downgrading back to iOS 6.1.4 on my iPhone 5, I am trying to get back my apps but every time I go into the App Store it only shows the option "Open" for the apps that I had previously. The apps don't appear in my home screen. HELP

After recently downgrading from iOS 7 back to iOS 6.1.4 on my iPhone whenever I go into the App Store to redownload my apps it only gives me the option "open" but I don't have the apps, therefore I don't HAve the app to open. Please help

How can u downgrade. Apple doesn't allow that. Unless your iPhone 5 is jail broken.  iOS 7 isn't even out yet. There Is no way u can get iOS 7 unless it was beta. And if so beta is having some issues.

After recently moving I broke my keyboard, this has now been replaced but I've forgotten my password so can't access anything on the computer.anyone know what I can do?It dosent give me the option of forgotten password!

I'm totally confused, since keyboard and password are mutually exclusive items. In other words, use what you used with the broken keyboard.

After recent OS update (10.8.2) I can no longer log into icloud.  I've reset password, but when I try to login on the icloud preferences panel it gives a little "bonk" sound and then spins forever.  Open to suggestion.  Thanks!

Signing out and signing back in seemed to do the trick as suggested here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19827058#19827058

  • MacBook Pro with Retina 13" Late 2013 thunderbolt port broken after 10.9.4 update

One of Thunderbolt Port (near USB port) was broken after 10.9.4 update.
I usually use mini Display Port to Display Port cable to connect my external screen, it works fine before 10.9.4 update. After 10.9.4 update, I tried to connect the external screen with the same cable, and the main screen of my MacBook Pro with Retina Display twinkling once so I'm sure the external screen was identified, but no video signal output.
I went to local Apple Premium Reseller (there is no Apple Store in Taiwan) and the they told me all of Thunderbolt Port was fine, they test with their own 10.9.2 copy and it seems ok. After that, I tried to re-install 10.9.4, downloading directly from Apple, the system re-install progress was complete but the Thunderbolt Port issue still there.
I connect to the broken Thunderbolt Port with Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter, and it works fine, so I believe the only problem is that there is no video signal output from the Thunderbolt Port (near USB port one).
    What should I do now?
Model: MacBook Pro with Retina 13" Late 2013

I can confirm that problem, too: Im' working with a Dell U2713HM display, connected via display port. Since 10.9.4 Update i'm experiencing random black screens and/or display going to energy saving mode. Today i've had this issue twice: Display going black and after disconnecting the macbook von all cables screen of the macbook remaining black. Holding Power Button for about 10 s restarts the macbook. After 5 minutes the same problem appeared again.

    Cheers

Since it is affecting all your devices also, try going to the e-mail web site and seeing if you can log in there. Who is the e-mail provider?
Try deleting the pass word from Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access.
If that doesn't work, try deleting and adding back the e-mail account.
