  • How do I add my Custom Workflow Activity to FIM 2010 R2 SP1 installed on Windows 2012 server?

    Hellos.
I have tried and failed to add my custom.dll into the Windows Server 2012  GAC.
We have a version of FIM 2010 R2 Sp1 running on Windows Server 2008 R2 and that was no problem. There seemed to be a gacutil.exe present on the system which added my assembly.
I cannot find gacutil.exe on the Windows 2012 Server.
I have downloaded and installed Windows SDK for Windows 8. However, when I try the gacutil.exe /i <myCustom.dll> nothing seems to happen.
Are there any guidelines how to add custom workflow activities to FIM when installed on a Windows Server 2012 system?
    TIA
    *HH

Well yes. It is fine when FIM is hosted on Windows Server 2008 R2.My difficulty is that I am using FIM 2010 R2 Sp1 and Windows Server 2012. No GACutility executable.
However, the problem has been resolved. Powershell can be used to modify the assemblies.
I opened a RunAs Administrator PS session. My assembly is in folder c:\Temp
Using Windows Explorer I browsed the folder c:\windows\assembly and noted the System.EnterpriseServices entries: version (2.0.0.0) and public key token (b03f5f7f11d50a3a)
(My version is 2.0.0.0 because when installing FIM and SharePoint 2013 the instructions I used suggested setting .Net version to be 2.0)
These powershell commands got me going...
    PS C:\temp> [System.Reflection.Assembly]::Load("System.EnterpriseServices, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a")
    GAC    Version        Location
    True   v4.0.30319     C:\Windows\Microsoft.Net\assembly\GAC_64\System.EnterpriseServices\v4.0_4.0.0.0__b03f5f7f11d50...
    PS C:\temp> $publish = New-Object System.EnterpriseServices.Internal.Publish
    PS C:\temp> $publish.GacInstall("c:\temp\RunPowershellLibrary.dll")
    PS C:\temp>
    PS C:\temp>
    PS C:\temp> iisreset
Amazingly I can see the assembly RunPowershellLibrary in my Windows 2012 GAC. :-)
Also, what is more cheering is that the custom activity actually works with FIM 2010 R2 Sp1.

    Hi Xiaojin,
    Thanks for posting in MSDN.
I don't think this is a bug. From your description, you want to install VC redist on some servers core for Windows Server 2008, 2012. Based on my knowledge, server core has no graphical user interface (GUI), there is no desktop. Only code written using Windows
application programming interfaces (APIs) can run on Server Core.
More information about server core please refer to here:

  • Install SSAS unattented Install on Windows 2012 Core edition

    Dear People who can help.
We are trying to offer SSAS as a Self Service solution in our company. this without giving the user SYSADMIN rights.
When we install this in a vmware environment or on a brick it does not start up SSAS. When we install it on a server with a gui it just work. Does any one know how to solve this problem in Windows 2012 Core edition without a gui?
    Thanks in advance,
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
According to your description, when you install the SSAS without GUI, it doesn't start up SSAS. Right?
When we install SQL Server via command line, we have the many installation parameters for Analysis Services. There's one parameter "/ASSVCSTARTUPTYPE" which specifies the startup mode for the Analysis Services service. You
should set it Automatic when do the unattended installation. Also you can start the SQL Server Analysis Services service manually via command line:
net start "SQL Server Analysis Services (MSSQLSERVER)"

  • NIC teaming and direct access in windows 2012 server core

    Hello All,
I have installed windows 2012 r2 server core and i want to implement direct access with nic teaming enabled.
Has anyone tried this kind of setup? Were they successful in it? Moreover can we configure Direct access when we have NIC teaming configured?
    -Ashish

Hi There - NIC teaming in both core and gui is a standard feature and there is no reason (and I have used it successfully) why you cannot do so. As always make sure you look at TCP Offload as per UAG / TMG Days to ensure best performance and also Network
    Card Binding Order.

  • Palm Treo 700p Cannot install. Windows Vista looking for Drivers

Installed Palm software and synced on my Dell with no issues.
Went to install on 2nd PC with Windows Vista Home.  Issues.  Got new download for Vista 32 and downloaded off site.
Same error puts me in a circle.  System finds new hardware.  Looks to install driver.  Can't find Drive on CD or Hardrive and so keeps in loop.  Cannot finish 1st "sync" without driver so install does not complete.
    Please advise:
Can I use the Palm device on two seperate PC's (One on NT running fine..now adding Vista Home).
How do I get the drive installed?
How do I be sure NOT to overwrite the data on the Palm when I sync the 1st time on the 2nd pc.
    Thanks
Post relates to: Treo 700p (Verizon)

Hello jpmill2 and welcome to the Palm forums.
    1. Please make sure that your Windows Vista account is a member of the Administrators group.  I would also be sure to check that antivirus software is disabled during the install process.
    2. You can use the Treo 700p with more than one computer.  I sync my Treo with my office PC running Windows XP SP2 and my Vista Business SP1 machine at home.  (And a Mac, just for good measure.)
    3. The USB driver for the Treo 700p is obtained by installing Palm Desktop 4.2 (bundled on the Treo 700p software disc) or by installing Palm Desktop 6.2 by ACCESS for Windows [Vista].  You should install the software first, and then connect the Treo after the install is complete. If prompted to HotSync during the install, I aways Skip it.
    4. If you Skip the HotSync during the Palm Desktop isntall, you can create a new HotSync ID on the computer with the same name as the HotSync ID on your Treo.  Then set the conduits to Handheld overwrites Desktop and then sync.
    Hope that helps,

  • Cannot install clean Windows 7 64-bit to GPT partition

    ASUS Maximus VII Formula
    HGST 4TB Deskstar NAS, SATA 3 (6 Gb/s), 7200 RPM, 64 MB
Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC)
    Windows 7 Pro 64-bit SP1
    SW_DVD5_Win_Pro_7w_SP1_64BIT_English_-2_MLF_X17-59279.ISO
    Procedure
On a Windows 7 Pro 32-bit BIOS laptop, I used Disk Management snapin to initialize the virgin 4TB disc to GPT. In Properties, it said it was a GPT disc. I then created a  1.0 TB partition with Quick Format unchecked (equivalent to DISKPART > clean)
so it would check for bad sectors.
I placed the 4TB disc into the ASUS Maximus VII Formula computer.
I made sure the UEFI BIOS was set to only use UEFI mode.
I booted into the Window 7 Pro 64-bit SP1 dvd.
During boot, ASUS screen said it was in UEFI mode.
    Windows installer loaded properly.
On the Windows screen for selecting which partition to install the OS to, I selected the 1.0 TB partition. The following error occurred:
"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style."
Since the ASUS boot screen said I was in UEFI mode, why does it not let me install Windows to my 1 TB GPT partition?
I then deleted the 1.0 TB partition.
The partition was deleted leaving unallocated space.
I used NEW link to create a partition.
NEW did not work, it just left the unallocated space and did not create a partition.
Since the ASUS boot screen said I was in UEFI mode, why does it not create a GPT partition?
From the ASUS driver downloads page, I also tried loading the
"Intel_RAID_Win7-8-8-1_V13101058" 64-bit drivers during the installation process with no success.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
How about your problem now? Based on my knowledge, Windows 7 X64 system is support GPT disk, but Windows 7 X32 system not. According to your description, your disk should be already GPT, this problem probably caused by Windows installation disk problem or
    motherboard UEFI boot settings mistake.
Therefore, please check these two points for test. If problem persists, in my opinion, it would be better to contact ASUS suppoort for further assistance with this problem.

  • Cannot install iTunes, Windows 7; error 7

I downloaded the last iTunes update and since then, have not been able to open iTunes.  I have followed the instructions from the community posts about uninstalling iTunes and all the ancillary programs several times and still cannot open iTunes.  Each time I reinstall, I get an error message about the Apple Mobile Device Support and the install stalls.  I cannot get past it.  If I hit ignore and let the install finish, I end up with error message iTunes not installed correctly, please reinstall Error 7.
I run Windows 7 on a Toshiba Satellite laptop.  All of my Windows updates are current.
Please help.  I can't back up my iPhone b/c my settings are for backup on computer.  I cannot backup on cloud b/c of this.  Because I cannot backup, I have updated my software on the phone yet.
    In backup/upgrade limbo.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • Installing a Windows 2012 Domain Controller into a 2000/2003 domain with Exchange 2003

    Hello,
I have a client that we are planning to migrate to 2012 over time.  They currently have a Windows 200 DC and 2 member servers running Windows 2003, one of which is running Exchange 2003.
We first are going to introduce a 2012 server into the domain and my plan was to DCPromo the 2003 server that isn't running Exchange and raise domain level to 2003 and then demote the 2000 server.  I was then going to install the
2012 server into the domain and make it a backup Domain Controller for the time being and leave the newly promoted Windows 2003 server as the primary Domain Controller with all the roles and global catalog.  My question is will Exchange 2003 still function
    normally in this scenario?
I've been doing research and read some things about Exchange 2003 not working with 2012 Domain Controllers, but I was thinking if the 2003 is still the primary, it might work.  We will eventually migrate to 2003, they just don't want to
do it all at once, due to costs and other issues.
    Thanks.

I didn't ask if it was supported, I just wanted to know if Exchange 2003 would continue
to function if the Windows 2003 DC still held all the FSMO roles and Global Catalog.
A not supported situation means that it is a situation where Microsoft made no testing or do not guarantee that you can operate with no problems. Following a not supported scenario could be done but is on your own risk.
If it won't, can the 2012 server be a member server in the 2003 AD?  The 2000
DC it is replacing, just shares files on the network in addition to being the lone AD server
Yes, it can be a member server.

  • Cannot install on Windows 7 setup.exe freezes.

Hi I am trying to install Adobe Creative Suite 4 Master Collection from a DVD by running the setup.exe however, it freezes at around 90% and I cannot continue any farther.  I have tried copying the dvd to my hard drive and that gives me the same result.  It also did the same thing when I had XP SP3 and I never found a solution.  I really need to get this installed so I can finsh a clients site so any help is aprieciated.

Hi again (for the last time),
I must stress the most annoying thing about it is the fact that Adobe clearly lies in stating that ( in my case CS3) should work on Windows 7. In the article: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/508/cpsid_50853.html on the website there is a claim CS3 has been tested on Windows 7 and should work.....
"In the article `Support policy for Acrobat 7 and 8 on Windows Vista...` no other conclusion is possible. In his answer Bob Levine admitted that Adobe 7 and 8 are supported in Vista.
And of course we can fight about the number of applications working well in Vista but not in Windows 7 and that (quoting Bob:)  ´some` applications from C3 work fine in Windos 7.
Later on, there is a statement I recieved by mail that declares the opposite:
    ***Notes to Customer***
    11/09/200908:36:02
    Dear -------,
Thank you for contacting us through Adobe Web Email Support. This
response addresses your request about acrobat 8.0 on windows 7.
Unfortunately only Acrobat/Reader 9.2 will be fully supported on
    Windows 7.
All previous versions will not be supported on this platform.
    Thank you,
    ***Notes
But that doesn´t make sense in the light of the promises Adobe makes about CS3 in Windows 7 on its website.
So my complaint is still the same... don't lie on internet about things you must later take back for the sake of commerce. I personally made my decision to upgrade (from XP) to Windows 7 partly because I should still be able to use CS3 (including Acrobat 8).
Adobe is highly (probably even more than Microsoft) arrogant to users who bought their expensive products..

  • RD Connection Broker Fails to install on Windows 2012 R2, fresh install

I have been fighting this for a week
Trying to install RD connection broker service on a Server 2012 R2.  I've had multiple errors, ranging from the "Server pending reboot" issue, to the install just hanging for 15-20 minutes and then failing.  This is NOT on a DC, and I've
tried it on a fresh 2012 R2 server, and a fully updated Server 2012 R2.  It has to be something on the domain I'm joined too, as I can install it with no problem on test servers/domains at my office.

    Hi CitadelTCS,
Some folk meet this issue because the server is DC, in your case could you try to run SFC /SCANNOW then monitor this issue again.

  • 12.1.0.2 install on windows 2012 R2

    Hi friends,
We are planning on migrating  databases from 11.2 to 12c on Win 2012 server.  Currently there are about 6 11g instances(different customer's and development databases) on one server. We will need to migrate all of them in the near future. I was reading up on the multitenant option in 12c, seems to be a great option for us hosting multiple databases on one server. But all these databases have different character sets(WE8MSWIN1252, AL32UTF8, WE8ISO8859P1) depending on the client needs.. From what I understand, the character set will be set in the container CDB and all the PDB databases will be using the same character set? Is it not possible to use different character sets and different init parameters for the respective PDB's? Also, since they are customer databases and development databases , the database size and memory needs will widely vary among the different databases.. Can this be a problem? ANy thoughts are really appreciated.... THank you so much

But all these databases have different character sets(WE8MSWIN1252, AL32UTF8, WE8ISO8859P1) depending on the client needs.
A database can only have ONE character set. Makes no difference if you are using 12c, 11g, 10g, 9i, 8i.
. From what I understand, the character set will be set in the container CDB and all the PDB databases will be using the same character set?
Close - a multitenant DB is ONE database - so can only have ONE character set. All components of that ONE DB use that same character set. Each PDB is a component of that ONE DB.
Is it not possible to use different character sets and different init parameters for the respective PDB's?
There is only ONE database - so it only has ONE character set, one set of REDO logs, one set of memory management.
Chapters 17 and 18 of the Concepts doc discuss the ONE database and how each of those components works in that context
    http://docs.oracle.com/database/121/CNCPT/cdbovrvw.htm
Also, since they are customer databases and development databases , the database size and memory needs will widely vary among the different databases.
Just so what I said earlier was not misunderstood - there is ONLY ONE DB. So there is  only ONE memory management component. When you size memory you size it to meet the requirements of that ONE DB which, by necessity, means the requirements of ANY AND ALL PDBs that you plan to have open simultaneously.
If you want to manage REDO and memory independently for each customer then you need a separate dabase for each customer.
As Srini noted that separate database can be a standard (non-multitenant) 12c DB.
Oracle 12c multitenant is a NEW architecture. Until your DBA staff has expertise in that architecture you should NOT consider using it for a production environment. It is vital that you conduct the full range of dev/test/performance test/qa test of the development lifecycle.
Even seemingly simple, mundane things like starting up the DB, connecting to the CDB or PDBs, creating users, making grants and more are either TOTALLY NEW or radically different.
No matter what the level of expertise a DBA has they will NOT be successful doing even those basic things without having first RTFM.
The above isn't meant to alarm you or discourage you from using 12c. It is merely to relate the facts as I see them. The preponderance of the forum questions have been about things as simple as 'why can I not connect to the hr schema'.
In particular see my length reply in this thread:
12c database - empty container vs PDB

The installer stops with an error saying that the system is not supported. Are there any basic drivers available to fix this problem, or do I necessarily need to upgrade my OS?
    Thank you,
    Alessio

XP 64-bit is not supported. (see system requirements)
Now is a good time to consider a O/S upgrade because of the end of life come April/2014 for Windows XP.
