Unistalling PSE 13 and folder icons

I uninstalled PSE 13 as it kept crashing on me every 10 minutes or so and I was losing information that I was working on. I've gone back to PSE 10. However, when I view my folders that have PSD files in them, they are showing up as the PSE 13 file icons. How do I get rid of PSE 13 completely, including the icon caches that have now invaded my folders?
Thanks!

TDFields you will want to ensure the 7z and exe file are in the same folder/directory.  You can find more details at Find a download link on Adobe.com.

  • Exclamation point and folder icon appears on iPod screen

I have a 20g Ipod and I am having lots of problems. Whenver I press a button it shows the apple logo followed by an exclamation point and folder icon. It ends with sounds of a clicking or HD whirring. Also, when I plug it into the computer, itunes prompts me with a message saying "Itunes has detected an Ipod in recovery mode. You must restore this Ipod before it can be used with Itunes". When I chose the option to restore it, it begins, but does not finish restoring it. It then gives me a message: "The Ipod "ipod" could not be restored. An unkown error occured (1418)". I also tried to restore by doing the following, but this failed as well:
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool”.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

  • BIG whammy of a problem, code 1418 and folder icon with exclamation mark!!

I think my ipod's gone to ****. A while ago while walking home listening to my ipod, it just stopped. Looked at it and saw the folder+ !. I searched the net and saw that it probably just needed to be restored. So i tried to restore it, it froze. Updated to newest iTunes, but it wouldn't work on my comp. Anyways, I've formatted my comp, so i'm starting new here. My iPod still has that icon, so i connected it to my comp, and got it to start restoring, only part way through it to get the 1418 error code. It's an old 20gig 3rd gen, but it always worked fine. And actually now as I'm typing this, I can't get the bugger to connect to my comp anymore. It just keeps showing the folder icon. I have no idea what to do with this anymore. I've read tons of post in regards to 1418 but they're all in relation to nanos, video ipods, and shuffles. Any help would be amazingly appreciated because I can't afford a new iPod. Thanks!

i connected it to my comp, and got it to start restoring, only part way through it to get the 1418 error code
Let's get some information for the Apple Engineers. Please copy and paste these questions into an email, make the subject of the email "iPod error report", add your answers, and send the email to Roy at Apple.
    1. What error code are you seeing?
    2. When are you seeing it (restoring or updating your iPod)?
    3. Which iPod do you have?
    4. What version of Windows do you have?
    5. What Windows service pack do you have installed?

  • Shortcut and Folder icons only display as PNG icon

I am having trouble doing something simple and I can't figure it out. If I want to change a web shortcut icon or folder icon whatever I change it to only displays as a PNG icon, not the icon I want.
I open get info on the folder or shortcut, copy the new icon over the picture in the top left and it changes to a PNG icon but never displays the actual icon! This hapens with any icon format (png, jpg) etc.. and happens on folders and shortcuts.
Why wont this simple task work? I've repaired permissionsetc.. no joy. At the moment I have a dozen web shortcuts on my desktop all with the same icon and all the folders in my dock have the same icon whenever I try to change them

Most likely a mucked up LaunchServices database. Launch the Terminal app in /Applications/Utilities/, copy & paste this one-liner into the window that pops up, hit the return key, quit the Terminal app when the prompt symbol returns, and restart. That should do the trick.

  • Changing the application and folder icons

    Hello,
I am trying to follow the Mac 101 to change my folder and application icons but when I select the 'Get Info' I can't seem to select the old icon and replace it with the new one via the copy and paste system.
'Click the icon in the upper-left corner of the Info window to select it.'
It just will not let me click and select the item.
Can anyone suggest a reason for this?
    Many thanks

Is this a folder that was created by the system during an install, or a folder that you just created?
Is it on the desktop or inside another folder?
You should only need to click on the folder icon top left Get Info window once to select it...it should glow slightly to indicate it is selected.
Go to the Applications folder and do a get info and select, then use the keyboard to copy cmd-c....then go to a folder you've created and select and hit cmd-v to paste....the special icon that is used for the Applications folder should the be the icon on the folder you created.

  • Thunar and folder icons

I would like to folder icons look like the screenshot of the Faenza-Cupertino for this: http://gnome-look.org/CONTENT/content-pre1/129008-1.png
Can I achieve this in thunar? How to assign icons for Dropbox, Folder bookmarks, Folder recent, Folder search, and other which is not here, and icons are Faenza-Cupertino.
Run xdg-user-dirs-update and configure the .config/user-dirs.dirs file did not help. How can this be done?

Unfortunately, Xfce doesn't support different icons for different folders. The only exceptions are your home folder and desktop folder, as these are the only ones required by Xfce.
As an alternative, you can set emblem icon overlays through the folder's properties dialog.
You can add/change/remove emblem icons in the emblem folder of your chosen icon theme.
    Cheers.

  • IPod Mini and Folder Icon with ! on Startup

I upgraded to ITunes 7.0, and like a lot of people, had problems getting my Mini out of recovery mode. So I deleted 7.0, reinstalled 6.0.5, restored my Mini and transferred my library, and everything seemed to be working until I disconnected my Mini. My Mini booted up then froze up on that darned Folder icon with the "www.apple.com/ipod/support" url underneath it. Windows XP is only recognizing my Mini as a USB Mass Storage Device. ITunes recognizes it and can even play mp3s off of it. I tried restoring my Mini again and resynced it only to have it come out with the same problem.
Any ideas on what's going on? How should I fix this?
    Thanks!!

Connect your iPod and wait for it to appear in iTunes.
Select your iPod in the source pane
Under the "summary" tab, select the option to "enable disk use"
    Click Apply (lower right-hand corner)
Exit iTunes (don't eject the iPod first)
Click on Start, right click on MyComputer, and click Manage
Click on Disk Management in the left-hand side
Wait for it to finish connecting (it might take a few minutes)
You'll see your iPod listed under your main hard drive. If it's a 4GB iPod Mini, it will show a capacity of about 3.72GB
Make SURE you've found the iPod
Right click on it and click format
    Set the options as follows:
    *Volume Label = iPod
    *File System = FAT32
    *Allocation unit size = default
Leave "quickformat" unchecked, and click OK to start the format.
This may take a little while to complete
If it doesn't complete successfully, try it a second time.
If it does complete successfully (first or second attempt) go back to iTunes and restore it again.
Also, make sure you're not unplugging the iPod while it has "do not disconnect" on the screen.

  • Boot problem / Hard drive won't spin up  and folder icon shows

    Hi,
Last week my ipod started giving me this problem, which started by it just stopping in the middle of a song (possibly because of lack of battery power).
When the ipod tries to boot I see the apple icon and hear the disk try to spin up for about 2 seconds. Then it gives a click, spins down, and starts the process all over again for several times until finally showing the dreaded folder icon.
When this happened last week I tried to charge using the cradle, but it didn't help. When I plugged it into the wall socket, VOILA! it worked. I went on my merry way for a week of listening, assuming the problem was all caused by a weak battery. During this week the computer was not able to mount the ipod disk.
Until yesterday, when the battery ran out in the middle of playing. The same exact symptoms occur, but this time the wall socket doesn't help. I think there was a sudden drop in power because the battery was fairly charged and then I saw it at complete zero, and I have also seen the battery icon show for a split second when trying to reset. I have of course tried as many of the 5 R's as I could do, but with no luck.
any help would be greatly appreciated
    thanks,
    ubloomie

If you can open up the case, you can try reviving the hard drive one last time. some people have had luck with sealing the drive in a plastic bag (to keep out moisture) and putting it in the freezer, and then firing it up.
Also you could try giving it a good sharp shock, which sometimes gets you one more spin-up.

  • Dock and Folder icons vanished!!!!

    Hi there,
basically i started my MacBook Pro up this morning and once i had logged on i attempted to close some programs and it vanished. I've tried restarting the MacBook Pro, terminal command "Kill all -KILL Dock' and killing the process via Activity Monitor. I have also noticed the MacBook Pro itself is slightly sluggish and the icons next to such things as 'home' and actual folders have disappeared.
    Please help!

  • Flashing question mark and folder icon

    Hi
I got the dreaded flashing folder/question mark icon a couple of days ago I used a friends computer to read the information in these forums and eventually managed to get my iMac to start up again. I have a very recent Time Machine back up, so am not worried about losing anything. During the numerous re-start attempts I decided to **** with it and do a re-install of the software, but the HD icon wasn't showing up as an option. If thats what I have to do then so be it.
A lot of the posts talked about a Apple Hardware test, which involves a re-start. If I do that I am afraid that I wont be able to start again
Any suggestions about what my best move would be?
    Thanks in advance
By the way, what causes this to happens? Is it a hard or soft ware issue?

It sounds like you may have an intermittent issue with that hard drive. I would get it replaced--especially if it's under warranty.

  • Finder pathname display cluttered due to triangles and folder icons.

For many years now I have been perturbed by the pathnames displayed at the bottom of the finder window.  Instead of following standard Unix conventions and seperating each pathname component with a slash, each is separated by a GUI-like representation of an office type folder.
There have been more than a few times that a long pathname becomes so jumbled that I cannot make it out!  Spotlight is somewhat better as it has small flyout like triangles instead of file folders, but then the pathname goes away as soon as one lets loose of the keystrokes necessary to force spotlight to display the pathname.
This makes more difficult than it should be when a developer needs to navigate Terminal to a file buried deeply in the file hierarchy.
Temporary fix?   Determine location of the the gif/png/jpg's used by 'folder' .  Move it aside and then link in a picture of a slash?
Gowing forward, include a preference items which would allow users to select their own seperators and pathname display font.  Perhaps spotlight could always display the pathname, and CMD+OPTION-whatever would copy pathname into a paste buffer.   Of course, the pathname would be a 100% genuine Unix style pathname (at this point) so that users could  paste it into terminal and go directly to the file of interest.  It would be nice if a keyboard shortcut existed to do the same thing with the finder pathname.
Can anybody help me with the names and locations of the jpegs / gifs used by folder and spotlight?  Would a file monitor be usefull in tracking down these two items?
ps  A copy of this was originally posted in the Imac forum.  I meant to post it here. Forgive the duplicate post.

I found it several years ago (Leopard time frame); back then I started making a list any time I found a terminal command that changed something you couldn't access directly thru a Preference menu. They just appear to pop up randomly from Mac related support sites, usually right after a new OS release.
So the quick answer to your question is No, I don't think it is documented anywhere (by Apple, at least). It may be available documentation if you're a registered Apple Developer - I don't know...
Here is one site that has some tips (this POSIX one is not in there, btw, so it's hit and miss)
    http://secrets.blacktree.com/?show=all
If you're really fealing masochistic, you can search a domain for the types of arguments available by turning that around and doing "defaults read <domain>", but for a domain like 'com.apple.finder', you'll get a HUGE amount of data returned, and there are a fairly large number of domains. I think that must be how some people find out what can be modified, but I don't have that kind of patience  Good luck!

  • Stacks and Folder Icons in the Dock

Oh my God, this is horrible! I just want to see a FOLDER in my dock to represent my Applications folder or any other folder I drag there. I don't want it to update, placing an icon of whatever it finds at the top level of the folder instead. Why would I want to see my address book twice on the Dock? I don't want to see any of the items in a folder, just the folder.
Is there a tool out there to fix this?

I completely concur. We ought to have a choice. (I found this thread after finding myself in a state of disbelief in trying to adjust the appearance of standard folders ("Stacks"!) that I include in the dock.)
There's a work around suggestion below but I think that this needs to be fixed / embellished in a 10.5.1 update. I hope other users that concur will add their voices to the "feedback" link noted in this thread. Apple is historically pretty responsive to this kind of simple UI request, where there's wide support. We're not talking about a functional rewrite; just a user option.

  • The dreaded ? and folder icon

I recently won quite a few macs from an auction from public school district, emacs and imacs from 2001-2004 range. For security of course all the drives were cleared. I am quite experienced on pc's as I am a technician at our local cable company, but when it comes to macs I know just enough to mess things up. But we troubleshoot both, so I would like to learn more about them. I plan to set these up at my church as a computer lab, but not sure where to start. I have 2 sets of boot up discs that are labeled imacs, but neither the imacs or emacs will boot when holding c down at boot. These were in a seperate box though so not sure they even go to the computers I got.
What I have read about and done so far:
Followed instructions online about finding the hd (that was fun)to make sure there was no physical damage, the district didn't touch it physically, on 2 mac laptops tha came w/ they just took a drill and drilled through the hd. So no physical damage to hd.
Next, I did the pram reset and got the ding it says, but no change on next boot
Next, I found an article on the open firmware and got into it, and I was like cool(finally a break) something that looks like dos, I can work with this. And I found some artice telling me to change the boot device to X but that didn't work either. And looks like a whole nest of hornets when I started reading about all the stuff that can be done in OF. I found a walkthrough of setting up the partitions.
I thought about calling apple to try to obtain a boot disk for the emacs, and I am sure one the imac or imac dv boot discs will work on the imacs. But how do I get these hard drives prepared to take the boot disk (I understand that is proably what is missing from ibm format and partitioning I can do in my sleep).
I didn't have any info on the macs before, but I noticed the OF had some info on the machines, so I will post that to the thread later
    Questions:
    1. What would a typical school employee do to clear a mac hd quickly, he had a lot to deal with so I am sure didn't put much time into it, I mean he drilled through the laptops, and some ibm's he just took the hd out? (can he ruin a hd permanently without cracking the case)
    2. If the hd's are useable, what do I need to do get it prepped to acccept a boot disk?
    3. If unable to get boot disk for emac, can I used what I found on bit torrent to boot, if it is copied from a pc, or should I get an imac working first then try to firewire to an emac (possible?)?
    4. In the status these macs are in, after I get one working can I firewire to others(there is like 30 of them)to get them working or do I need to work on each one?
I know this will take a while, and prepared to keep looking till I can find an answer, not expecting a quick fix. If you can answer any one of the questions or offer assistance I would greatly appreciate it.
p.s. A lot of questions I know but if anyone can take me under their wing and help me get these working for the church, I would be more than happy to send you one at no charge

Typically wipe the hard drive using the Zero Data option. This would remove all information on the drive from any kind of access or recovery. But it takes a bit of time to complete the process - up to several hours depending upon how large the hard drive is.
    2. If the hd's are useable, what do I need to do get it prepped to acccept a boot disk?
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.)
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Now complete the OS X installation.
    3. If unable to get boot disk for emac, can I used what I found on bit torrent to boot, if it is copied from a pc, or should I get an imac working first then try to firewire to an emac (possible?)?
It is illegal to install a copy of OS X that has been obtained from any other source than the original discs that came with the computer (gray labeled OEM discs) or purchased from Apple or from a vendor who owns and is selling his/her licensed software. Discs posted on torrent boards are pirated and illegally obtained and illegally distributed.
    4. In the status these macs are in, after I get one working can I firewire to others(there is like 30 of them)to get them working or do I need to work on each one?
Not unless you own a license for each copy of OS X you install. For 30 machines you would need to purchase a site license from Apple.
