Units of Measures found in the material master.

Hi,
What is significance of different Units of Measures found in the material master.
Ajay

Hi,
Order unit
Unit of measure in which a material is ordered. It is the default unit in purchasing functions.
Order price unit
Unit in which the vendor invoices you. The order price unit is defined in the purchase order or in the purchasing info record. If you have defined an order price unit in the PO, the goods receipt will be recorded in both the order unit and the order price unit.
Sales unit
Unit of measure in which a material is sold. It automatically appears as the default in a sales order and can be changed there.
Unit of issue
Unit of measure in which a material is issued from the warehouse/stores. You can use this unit of measure in conjunction with goods issues and physical inventory activities.
Any quantities that you specify in a unit of measure other than the base unit are automatically converted into the base unit by the system. To make this possible, you must enter the ratio for conversions between alternative units and the base unit (the conversion factor) in the material master record. You can enter this information when specifying the alternative unit of measure

  • Need Multiple Units of Measure for a given material due to multiple vendors

    Hello,
We have a requirement where we must have multiple units of measue (each, box, case, pallet) for a given material.
    Background:
We have multiple vendors for one SAP material number. We need to store 4 levels of units of measure for each vendor+material combination.
    Unit of Meaure levels
    1. Each
    2. Innerpack (ex: 12 each = 1 innerpack)
    3. Box (ex: 36 eaches = 1 box)
    4. Pallet (ex: 100 eaches = 1 pallet)
Standard SAP allows in MM01 additional data --> Units of Measure only 1 Ea, Box, Plt, etc.
Our requirement is to allow multiple Units of Measure due to multiple vendors providing the same material.
So, our unique combination is by a Material+Vendor.
We are considering adding the vendor name and vendor number to the material master --> additional data --> Units of Measure tab.
Does this seem like a good solution? What impacts do you foresee with approach?
    Any alternatve solutions?
We thought we could enhance the purchasing info records to allow multiple units of measure too but then we need to also add many fields to hold the weight, lenght, height, width, volume, country of origin, etc.
Please recommend a best practice or solution to handle this requirement.
    Thanks in advance!!!

    Hi,
Maintain the alternative units in Material Master in Additional Data -> Units of Measure section with proper conversion factors.
Create individual info-records i.e. per mtl-vendor combination & in the info-record maintain the order unit, along with other details as required.
Now when you create a PO, the details will be read from the info-record. To test the same, create them in your sandbox & see if it meets your requirement.
Hope the above clarifies your query.

    Vivek

  • Re: Changes in the material master.

    Hi guru's,
The vendor supplies the material 1 box which consists of 20 pieces, we known that in the material master the unit of measure for alternate UoM is maintained as 10 pieces (in additional data tab). If I make changes as the receipt from vendor as 20 pieces instead of 10 pieces already maintained, what are the consequences I face. its ur pl.
    thanks
    tuljasingh.

    Hi,
Once you make changes in material master ( from 10 to 20) then when you make the GR then system will make GR for 20 quantities (After makeing changes in MM you have to again change the conversion in PO in quantities tab).
So after making GR, quantities & stock value will be updated as per data mentoned in PO conversion.
If you make any new PO then system will pick bydefaut the conversion in PO from the material master.(i.e. 20 qty for 1 pc)

  • GTIN & UPC Stored on the Material Master Configuration

    Experts,
I am looking for a way to store the UPC code and the GTIN number on the material master in ECC.  Like the EAN/UPC field I am looking to know if there is a way to have both the GTIN and the UPC field stored in the same field with SAP calulating the check digit and prefix.  If not is there another field on the material master that I can store the value for the GTIN and have a way of storing the additional units of measure GTINs also.  Any documentation around the storing of the GTIN / UPC would be appreciative.
    Thanks!

    Hi
GTIN has existed for several years to allow packages of retail items to be identified without going to the detail
of EAN-128. GTIN is essentially prefix indicating package type and then EAN-13 or zero plus UCC-12 (with check digit recalculated)
    See http://www.ean-int.org/products.html for more details
SAP does not seem to have defined a GTIN outside of MDM and CRM
We haven't implemented GTIN but do use EAN-13 and other EAN codes. For GTIN I would create a new EAN category as a copy of HE (EAN-13) and create a new EAN number range as 1001000000000 to 9999999999999 and assign the range to
the new EAN code. All this assumes you will assign your GTIN externally. The range copes with GTIN based on both EAN-13 and UCC-12 (=UPC). You see more EAN/UPC fields in material master additional data.

  • How to change the base UoM in the material master?

    Hi,
I want to change the base UoM in the material master for a particular material but I can't change irt with MM02 as system says it has open routings for this material.
I have set the deletion flag on the routings but still system shows open routings while changing UoM.
Is there any standard SAP program by which UoM can be changed if open POs, stock etc. are present in the system?
    Thanks,
    Input

    HI
It is possible to change the Base unit of measure in the following cases:
    1) If there are no stocks of the material in the syatem
2)If there are no purchase requisitions, purchase orders, or scheduling agreements for the material.
3)If a purchase order or purchase order item is not being created or changed.
    Procedure for changing is:
Access the material master record in Change mode.
Overwrite the old base unit of measure with the new one on any departmental data screen.
    Save the change.
    Thanking you.

  • Error while creatting the Material Master IDOC in ERP 2005

    Hello All,
I am trying to create scenario from RFID-Enabled Outbound Processing - Conf Guide (SAP AII 4.0).
I am using Auto ID 4.0 on a NW04s system. The backend is a ERP2005 system.
The scenario requires that I need to create a material in the backend and send it to the NW04s system using IDOCs.
After completing the configuration on the backend, I tried sending the Material Master IDOC to Auto ID from the transaction AIDMM. I get a message that IDOC is just being created. But I could not find it in the transaction WE02.
On debugging I found that the function MARD_GENERIC_READ_MATNR_PLANT resulted in error.
Thanks for any kind of input.

    Dear,
    Check ABAPer for file settings.
    - CANNOT_SKIP_ATTRIBUTE_RECORD : The attributes could not be read in the EPS parcel. The file cannot be opened for reading, because it may have been deleted in the meantime.
    - CANNOT_DETERMINE_EPS_PARCEL : The EPS parcel is not in the EPS Inbox, because it may have been deleted. You must download the relevant patch again (for example, Hot Package).
    - CANNOT_DETERMINE_DATA_FILES : The name of a data file could not be determined, because a profile parameter was not correctly configured. Check the settings using the report RSPARAM.
    - CANNOT_DISASSEMBLE_R_DATA_FILE : An R3trans data file could not be unpacked. A possible error source is that the relevant EPS parcel was not found. The data file could not be opened for writing. An error occurred when transmitting a 20K block from the EPS Inbox to the directory /usr/sap/trans/data (UNIX).
    - CANNOT_DISASSEMBLE_D_DATA_FILE : An ADO data file could not be unpacked. The reasons are the same as with the message CANNOT_DISASSEMBLE_R_DATA_FILE .
    - CANNOT_CREATE_COFILE : The cofile could not be created from the relevant data file. One possible error source is that <sys>adm does not have write authorization for the directory /usr/sap/trans/cofiles (UNIX).

  • Valuation class in the material master

hi all, we maintain split valuation materials, namely domestic & imported. we are working on project based scenarion planning strategy 21 : MTO/project.
in daily practice user convert unrestricted stock to project stock with 412 Q mvt type before MRP RUN.
but for some when user try to convert stock following error occurs. I check stock available, it is available. but i do not understand why this error comes.
Maintain the valuation class in the material master first
    Message no. M7232
    Diagnosis
The system found that you have defined your own valuation classes for sales order stock and project stock in Customizing. However, these valuation classes have not been maintained in the material master record for the materials concerned.
    Procedure
So that the relevant accounts can be posted upon goods movements, you have to maintain the valuation classes for sales order and project stock in the accounting view of the material master record for the material concerned.
If you have authorization to do so, you can change the material master record.

    Hi,
The normal valuation stock refer to relevant table valuation class field MBEW/MBEWH-BKLAS
Special Sales Stock refert to MBEW/MBEWH-EKLAS
    Projeck Stock refer to MBEW/MBEWH-QKLAS

  • Characteristics in the material master (SAP Retail)

    Hi everybody,
Iu2019m using SAP Retail and I need to maintain characteristics in the material master. These characteristics are used to maintain additional information like u201Caccessoriesu201D and u201Cguaranteeu201D (Iu2019m not working with generic articles and variants).
Each characteristic need to be maintained in different languages:
Example: Guarantee u2013 In Portuguese the value should be u201C2 anosu201D and in English the value should be u201C2 yearsu201D.
There are no predefined values for these characteristics. We use additional values and the user can maintain a free text, but it should be different in Portuguese and in English.
One solution I can use is to create each Characteristic in English and in Portuguese, and then maintain different values for each one. Iu2019m trying to find a better solution because I have numerous Characteristics.
Does anyone know another way to solve this issue?
    Thanks in advance,
    SN

    Hi SN,
this requirement sounds a little bit strange.
Question 1: This field 'Guarantee' is  valid for all articles or for some articles only ( e.g merchandise categroy electronics)
Question 2: How do you name the Characteristic? is it Years or Ano or guarantee?
Question 3: using additional vlaues will kick out the value check. So it is like a free text entry. Of course this makes no sense, because you can also add 'g hello' als a valid value.
Why you choose this way ?
Question 4: What is the issue using fixed values? I guess the guarantee values are limited at all.
Question 5: Why you don't use a MARA append field and hide it on unwished mechandise categories. Thats easier to handle and a value check can be implemented.  So you are able to create a field with a unit in different languages
    e.g.    Guarantee          Years
    if you logon in english.
    regards
    Björn
PS: Did you tried the new characteristic strorage?

  • Extending the Material Master

    Hi all,
I've extended the material master for mara with 3 ZZ fields. I've added these fields to BAPI_TE_MARA/X and am using EXTENSIONIN/X with BAPI_MATERIAL_SAVEREPLICA to create the material.
This has  been unit tested and until recently this was working OK, the MM was created  along with the mara being popluated with the ZZ fileds and these were showing on the basic data 1 tab of the material master.
Nothing has changed. I can see the data in extension/x for the ZZ fields being passed to BAPI_MATERIAL_SAVEREPLICA, the MM is created OK still but no ZZ fields are populated in mara and no data displayed in MM03.
A bit vague I know but has anyone any suggestions?
    Thanks, Mark

    Hi Mark,
You need to modify internal table TMARA_UEB. When you enhance MARA table with Zfields, you can't use standard SAP BAPI. I copied Bapi_material_save data and modified internal table TMARA_UEB. this internal table will have all zfields, you added in MARA. but not BAPI_MARA. you have import MARA append structure to the BAPI.
At the end it calls SAP standard function "Material_maintain_dark".
I enhanced Material master extensively and it worked for me. give a try.
    Thanks
    Hari

  • System demands Weight unit as a mandatory field in material master

    Hello friends,
When I create a material with only basic data view, the system doesnot require the weight unit field(in basicdata1 view) as a mandatory field, but when I try to create a material with salesorg1 view , it makes the weight unit filed as a mandatory field and also populates the weight unit field with the value as "KG" by default. Could any one please help me to find out where I can see the configuration and the default values.
    Thanks,
    Ramineni.

    Hi Ramineni,
Plaese go through the menupath to conttol the field selection in the Material Master just like the fields controlled in customer master. Here you can select the required fields as mandatory, suppress or Required. I believe you need to take consideration of Material Type while doing this.
    Spro->Logistics General->Material Master->Field Selection.
    Consider the transactions : OMSR & OMS9.
Please let me know your thoughts.

  • Tracking changes in the material master

    Hi All,
    I have a material master 123456.
In this I have batch_class  023 type. I have a characteristic COLOUR which is assigned to the batch_class.
For this characteristic there are 2 options RED and BLACK.
When I created the material master I had assigned RED colour. I did some transaction also.
After 2 days when I went inside the material master, I found BLACK insteadof RED.
I want to know who did this changes? I am not able to track this from the mm03--material master changes.
How do i track the changes?
    Regards,
    Narendra Bora

in MM04 i think you may not be able to find the classification changes.
i wouls suggest you to activate change logs on AUSP table a prerequisite of change logs is activating multi object assignments. This entails running program RCCLUKA2 which converts KSSK and AUSP to internal number (more information on the program/procedure can be found in the documentation of the program).
this can help you to find the change log on the classificaiton values.

  • QM: Inspection Setup in the Material Master

    Hi all!
A quick novice user query: In SAP ERP Quality Management, I was creating an inspection lot for a material and it prompted me to first add an inspection type for it. I went to the Inspection Setup in the Material Master, entered the material, the plant, check activate inspection, selected an inspection type and hit execute. But it keeps giving me "No entries found". Any help?
    Thanks a bunch in advance!
    Regards,
    Bilal

Your query does not provide complete info as to what type of inspection origin you're trying.
Anyway as a thumb rule ensure that the setup in material master exists, i.e. the relevant inspection origin type. Ensure the tickbox for active exists. Also the corresponding data such as inspection plan / material characteristic etc. exists along with the required setup.
Once the above is in place you can proceed with the QM flow. In addition to this I would also suggest do a search in QM forums to know more about how to maintain the data, what needs to exist etc. Also go thru' SAP help.

  • Reference a document in the material master

I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a way that we can do the following....
We basically want to have a field/location in the Material Master that will reference a document stored somewhere on a network server and in turn, display and print on the PO (the document name prints, not the contents). Any suggestions of where to start?
So in the MM for Material # 123456
    MyField = "MyInspectionDoc.pdf" (MyInspectionDoc.pdx resides on \\mynetworkserver\MyInspectionDoc.pdf)
    Or
Is there a way to have an attachment in the MM that will automatically be pulled into the PO when the PO is created (with the material item as a line item in the PO of course)

I think you are mixing DMS (document management) with GOS (generic object services)
GOS content is created as shown in your screen shots.
You cannot even see from any transaction which materials have a GOS attachment. The GOS attachment can only be accessed from the object (material master) where it was created.
DMS is a central component in SAP and embedded to the material master like it is done with classification too.
You can create the documents in CV01N transaction and link to the material or directly from material master. you can use CV04N to search for documents
In the material master you will find the link to the document in alternative data tab where you have as well your alternative units.
This screen looks like this one:
Those material master attachments/documents do not print automatically in a PO, for this you have to do some ABAP development
