Unity 5 - VMO Question?

Hi quick question if I may please.
We have a fully unified unity 5,  & CUCM 7.1 setup, mixed outlook 2000, 2002 clients with VMO 5.01.
The problem we are having - we use shared mailboxes (for messages) which are accessed by multiple users, the users have full permissions to the mailbox, the mailbox is configured as the unity subscriber.
When the outlook users try to access the shared mailbox voicemails through VMO - phone option, before VMO will play the message
they are asked to type the credentials (username, password, domain) of the domain/unity subscriber account.
The reason I think this is happening is because the outlook users are also not unity subscribers?
Is there any way around this at all?
Thankyou all
Rich

You can go into Exchange I believe and grant full permissions to the "shared" mailbox they are accessing with VMO to see if that works, but I think VMO was only designed to be associated to one account.  This is why are you seeing the prompt come up to log in again when they click on the shared mailbox.

  • Unity Virtualization Question

    Hello,
I'm in the planning phase of upgrading Unity to 8.X and moving into a virtual environment.  The virtual environment is Cisco UCS M2 B series blades, the blades that are dedicated to Collaboration apllications have 64 gigs of memory and 2 Intel Xeon 5650 processors with six cores each.  In my reseach I came across the virtualizing Cisco Unity Design Guide, it does not show my processor being supported.
My questions is why isn't it supported and will it ever be supported.  It seems strange to me that it would not be, unless having six cores is the problem. You could have another server using the other two cores that are left after using the Unity Virtual machine template which calls for 4 cores.  That could possible cause problems for Unity, but  unlikely if you are using CPU Affinity to dedicate cores
If anyone has any insight into if this will ever be a supported  I would appreciate it.  Link with supported processors below.

Actually, you should go by what it says in the docwiki pages for VMWare.

  • Cisco unity connection question

Hi all, I dont have subscriber in my test environment but want know what happens with this two scenarios.
Can we add a mailbox in sub when pub is up?
Can you add a mailboxin sub  when pub is down?
I am sure that when pub is down we cannot add a mailbox, but want to make sure
    Thanks,

    Hi Uday,
    The Cluster in Unity Connection acts differently than a CUCM cluster, so the answers to your question are;
    Yes & Yes
How a Cluster Works in Cisco Unity Connection
    Revised May 2009
The Cisco Unity Connection cluster feature provides high availability  voice messaging through two Connection servers that are configured in a  cluster. Under normal conditions, the Connection servers are both active  so that:
•The cluster can be assigned a DNS name that is shared by the Connection servers.
•Clients  such as email applications and the web tools available through the  Cisco Personal Communications Assistant (PCA) can connect to either  Connection server.
•Phone systems can send calls to either Connection server.
•Incoming  phone traffic load is balanced between the Connection servers by the  phone system, PIMG/TIMG units, or other gateways that are required for  the phone system integration.
Each server in the cluster is responsible for handling a share of the  incoming calls for the cluster (answering phone calls and taking  messages). The server with Primary status is responsible for the  following functions:
•Homing and publishing the database and message store, which are both replicated to the other server.
•Sending message notifications and MWI requests (the Connection Notifier service is activated).
•Sending SMTP notifications and VPIM messages (the Connection Message Transfer Agent service is activated).
When one of the servers stops functioning (for example, when it is shut  down for maintenance), the remaining server assumes responsibility for  handling all incoming calls for the cluster. The remaining server also  assumes responsibility for the database and message store, which are  both replicated to the other server when the connection and its  functionality are restored.
When the server that stopped functioning is able to resume its normal  functions and is activated, it resumes responsibility for handling its  share of incoming calls for the cluster.
To monitor the status of the servers, the Connection Server Role Manager  service runs in Cisco Unity Connection Serviceability on both servers.  This service performs the following functions:
•Starts the applicable services on each server, depending on server status.
•Determines  whether critical processes (such as voice message processing, database  replication, and message store replication) are functioning normally.
•Initiates  changes to server status when the server with Primary status is not  functioning or when critical services are not running.
Note the following limitations when the publisher server is not functioning:
•If  the Connection cluster is integrated with an LDAP directory, directory  synchronization does not occur, although authentication continues to  work when only the subscriber server is functioning. When the publisher  server is functioning again, directory synchronization resumes.
•If  a Digital Network includes the Connection cluster, directory updates do  not occur, although messages continue to be sent to and from the  cluster when only the subscriber server is functioning. When the  publisher server is functioning again, directory updates resume.
    About the Publisher Server
The first Cisco Unity Connection server that is configured in the  cluster is the publisher server. The Cluster Management page in  Cisco Unity Connection Serviceability identifies the publisher server.
The publisher server assumes responsibility for publishing the database  and message store when the cluster is functioning normally.
When the publisher server does not have Primary status (for example,  when the administrator manually changes the status of the other server  to Primary, which automatically changes the status of the publisher  server to Secondary), the other server assumes responsibility for  publishing the database and message store.
The publisher server cannot be removed from the cluster.

  • Two possible simple Unity Connection questions.

    Hi guys,
Would an upgrade install fail on a MCS7835I3 if it has more than the minimum amount of required memory?  The upgrade version requires 6 GB and I have 8 GB in this device.
Do the same license files need to be installed on the subcriber that are installed on the publisher?  I have 5 license files on the PUB and only 1 on the SUB and it is the SUB that is failing.
These are the only two things that I can think of as to why my upgrade from 8.0 to 8.6 keeps failing.  I even had TAC today perform the upgrade for me and it failed for them too.
    Thanks,

    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/8x/administration/guide/8xcucsag310.html
##When a Cisco Unity Connection cluster (high availability) is configured, two licenses are required because licenses are not replicated. The license that has the MAC address or license MAC of the publisher server must be installed on the publisher server. The license that has the MAC address or license MAC of the subscriber server must be installed on the subscriber server. For details on installing license files, see the "To Install the License Files" procedure.
#Note Either or both Connection servers in a cluster can be installed on virtual machines.
The license on each server includes the parameter that sets the maximum number of voice messaging ports for that server. The license on only one server (typically the publisher server) includes all other applicable parameters (such as the maximum number of voice messaging users and voice message recordings longer than 30 seconds), which are enabled on both servers in the Connection cluster.

  • Mailbox quota on Cisco unity, quick question

    Hello guys,
I was facing a probleme with an unity connection cluster. I had a message which tell something like that
"no disk space avalaible, user cannot depose message..."
So I tchecked my space on disk (screenshot attached) with the show cuc dbserver diskspace command, but I don't know what I need to see to diagnose an eventual problem.
I changed the mailbox quota for my users from 15 to 40MBytes and all is right now.
But what is the good practise ?
    - tell my user to delete their mailbox ?
    - expand my mailbox quota ?
    - others ideas ?
    Thanks for your good ideas
    Kévin

I would consider implementing a aging policy. You could notify users via email before aging out messages.
I will be careful expanding mailbox size unless your system is over provisioned to handle your environment. Also larger mail store will cause issues with daily backups and etc.

  • Beginner Unity Connection question

I have a very simple beginner question I would've thought would be really easy to find the answer, but so far, I have not.
To set up a call system call handler for your basic company main number, do I need a physical phone with the number attached to a line.
I've tried it without the physical phone and can't get it to work, but with a line, no problem?
    thanks

    Thank You.
Figured it would be fairly simple, just needed to know where to start.
This might be the answer to another beginner question I have been thinking about also.
Is it common for users to call their own number when they are calling in from outside to pick up vm and then press * to access?
The Meridian system we are tossing has a common DID number, but the way our vm was setup, the number is internal. I'm not sure if calling your own number is common or if I need to make a new number, or another CTI rp sort of thing and forward to internal vm DN.
    Hope that makes sense.

  • Unity design question

I have a 3 general phones and a switchboard phone, switchboard has its on voicemail, general phones do not
If the general phones call each other and the user does not pick up the phone I send the call to a call handler which asks the caller if they want to leave a message on the switchboard or try again later. This works fine.
What I want to set up is when one of these general phone user hits the Voicemail button it goes to a message to say that this phones does not have voicemail etc , at the moment when a user hits the message key they just get the greeting of the call handler, is there a way round this?
    Thanks

You can work around this using Unity's Call routing rule
    1. Create a new Callhandler with the greeting that says "This phone does not have voicemail"
    2. Create a Call routing rule for Direct calls for each of these extensions
    3. Match the ANI or calling party number
    4. Forward to greeting of the Callhandler created in Step 1
    5. Make sure to arrange these new rules before the default rules.

  • UnityConnection system name

    Hi,
Unity Connection question. Anyone know if you can change the UnityConnection user alias that is used to send the email t the inbox.
Some users dont understand what unityConnection is so think the mail is suspicious and delete it without listening to attachment.
Having a look around cant find much information
So I have been asked if I can change the name UnityConnection to something more company recognisable and preferably without rebuilding servers
    thanks in advance
    Paul

    Hi,
not tried this yet but will have to in the near future so keep me updated how it goes - found this link that was useful:
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2076588
tested in lab and it worked ok.
Might be worth getting a DRS backup done before making this change.

  • Message IDentification in Outlook

Running Unity 5.0. - Some internal users call other users extensions and leave Voice mails. The VM messages are delivered into Outlook with the "Users Name" and a subject line that reads "Users name and extension number".
Other internal users get identified as Unity Messaging System - <Servername> with a subject line thate reads "Message from <extension number>".
I would like everyone's messages to display the first scenario. I doesn't seem to matter what version of outlook is being used. Individual users delivery scenario is always the same with each call.
Any ideas why this is happening? Any Input is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Daniel,
    That does seem odd? Can you go through this info and do some more testing to verify that the Call Flow patterns are exactly the same between the different users;

A customer has several offices. Each office has a separate Exchange Server. The partner was considering a single Unity deployment connected to all of the exchange servers over the WAN, but has decided against that because the latency of the WAN is too high to do this. They are looking for a best practice way of deploying Unity for these multiple Exchange servers at multiple sites. This might mean a separate Unity server for each exchange server at each site .
However, we’re wondering if there is a better way to do this. With multiple unity servers we’ll likely have different prefixes for each unity server at each location . This is something that the customer would like to avoid. We’re wondering if there any best practices for a deployment like this that we can offer as options for the customer.

This may be counter to your customer's desire or requirements but I must ask the question.  Has the customer considered Unity Connection vs. Unity?  Granted, Unity Connection provides integrated messaging whereas Unity is the unified messaging application; however, CUC has become Cisco's flagship messaging product over the last couple of years and I only see this expanding to be honest.  So, for new installs - I push hard on Unity Connection.  Sometimes, it's a sell but sometimes the customer has a hard requirement for UM and thus you have to go with UM.  In your scenario, your customer could potentially save a LARGE amount of money as CUC is not dependent upon Exchange at all; however, you still have the option to tie into Exchange 2003/2007 as an external service where users can access messages in a 3rd-party message store and also access calendar data and so forth.  The platform is very feature rich.  Many of my current Unity customers are migrating off of the platform to the more "agnostic" CUC platform to avoid issues caused by such dependence on AD/Exchange.  In addition, as Microsoft continues to develop and push it's own UM solution - integration for Unity is being forced to change (ex: changes to MAPI in 2010 caused problems for Cisco and required them to rework a bit of the underpinning integration points between Unity and Exchange).  With CUC, you also have the flexibility to implment a dial plan within voicemail system itself...not to mention it is extremely scalable.

  • Some questions about Unity 4.0 and IPC

I have a couple of questions and I was looking for "real world" answers, not specific answers from the design guide.
1.What is this bandwidth requirement between Exchange and Unity and what is it used for?
    2. What sort of issues would we experience if we placed the Unity UM Server at the Colo and placed the Exchange server at the customer premise; with a single T1 between the sites?
3.What else is involved with a Unity UM install vs. a Unity VM install?
4.Does the Unity UM and Exchange servers have to be running AD?
    5. Can Unity or the Exchange box be the Domain Controller? Or does it need to be a separate server?
    6. Where does a vm message get streamed from? The Unity server or the Exchange server?

No you do not pay for FaceTime. It uses your WiFi network, so if you have access to WiFi it is free.
There is no server required for FaceTime, it will use a direct device to device protocol.
I can't answer the question about using phones in different countries as that will depend on if you buy a phone that is locked to a carrier.
If you buy a phone in Germany and it is locked to a German phone network then it will most likely not work with a SIM from Turkey. You would need to buy an unlocked phone which are very expensive as they do not have any carrier subsidy applied to the price.

  • Unity Connection 8.5 Upgrade to 10 Licensing Question

    Hello,
Have a question about the licensing migration of Unity Connection 8.5 Upgrade to 10, do we need to order a upgrade license via PUT tool for license migration, or we can just finish the migration without have Cisco licensing team involved?
    Thanks,

You need to order it through PUT, but keep in mind that you will not receive a PAK for CUCM or UCXN 9 or 10 as the licenses need to be migrated to ELM. Once you upgrade ELM will be installed on each node and you pick one as your ELM server, then you follow the steps to migrate your license directly from ELM, email the request to cisco licensing and they will provide the license. You have 60 days to install new license after the upgrade.

  • Unity and IPCC SQL question

    Hello All,
I have a question in regards to SQL, In the past I have been told that no maintenance was needed on the servers in regards to SQL (backups / reindex) and that it was all automated. Is that statement still correct in version 5 and 7 that we should not worry about the SQL installs on the box?
    2.   Because the SQL version is 2000. What are the steps for us to get the versions upgraded to at least SQL05?
I know that with unity you need to go to the cisco site and download the unity upgrades, but for IPCC what do i need to do ?
    thank you

There is no SQL upgrade that i know of for either product, Unity 8 will be the 1st version that will support SQL 2005
•The applicable version of Microsoft SQL Server:
–On a system with more than 32 voice ports, SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition or SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition
–On a system with 32 or fewer voice ports, SQL Server 2005 Express or SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000)
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/unity/8x/requirements/8xcusysreq.html
The requirement would be to upgrade to Unity 8.X
I believe UCCX won't change SQL version (and DB platform) until they release the Linux version which will drop SQL.

  • Question about how Cisco Unity Connections v 9.1.1 uses transfer rules

I'm trying to understand how Unity hanldes calls using the transfer rules and greetings. I've got a subscriber whose standard greeting is set to send them to a call handler. Since the call is being transferred from the subscriber would it use the transfer rules vs the greetings? I've looked through the documentation but can't find a good explanation for how the system moves calls around. Thanks in advance.
    Billy

    Billy,
It could use either one, transfer rule is matched first and can either point to greeting or another extension, if it points to greeting then you can simply play blank greeting and transfer to the call handler. Start by looking at the transfer rule and if it is set to transfer to greeting, look at greeting configuration. Notice there is alternate transfer rule and greeting as well, so make sure those are not enabled as they would take precedence.
