Unity Connection 8.5.1 Unified Messaging w/ Exchange

Hi,
I'm just checking out the new Unified Messaging features of Unity Connection 8.5.1 and notice that you can specify multiple Unified Messaging Services pointing at different Exchange deployments (and then when setting up Unified Messaging Accounts select which UMS applies).
My question is, is there any limit as to how many Unified Messaging Services (e.g. how many different Exchange organisations) you can point a single Unity Connection server at?
Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,
Taken from the UC Design Guide:
"There is no hard limit on the number of unified messaging services that you can create, but maintenance becomes time-consuming when you create more than a couple of dozen."

  • Coexistence & Upgrade Exchange 2010 SP3 Unified Messaging to Exchange 2013 SP1 UM

    Hello Experts,
    We're doing Exchange 2010 SP3 to Exchange 2013 SP1 upgrade.
This upgrade also include Unified Messaging component which is currently working with Exchange 2010 SP3 and Lync 2013.
We have one dial plan and its SIP URI and Secured.
Looking for high level steps to plan coexistence and upgrade of Unified Messaging  from Exchange 2010 SP3 to Exchange 2013 SP1 integrated with Lync 2013. I'll also appreciate tips on what kind of certificate and its Subject name(s).
Microsoft documentation is not very clear and I found it confusing for my scenario. Since I we don't want any downtime for UM users, looking for some help.
    Thanks in advance for help.
    -DK

    Hello Hinte,
Thanks for the information. I have been to this article which explains fresh deployment but doesn't address coexistence and migration scenario.
I'm looking for high level steps only. Can anyone validate and suggest if I'm missing something!
    1) Install new CAS+MBX Server
    2) Move system mailbox as per MS documentation to Exchange 2013 MBX
    3) On CAS+MBX Server Enabled internal CA trusted Cert for UM Services.Internal
CA certs contain only CAS+MBX server's FQDN only.UM services Startup Mode is set to "Dual".
    4) Assigned existing SIP URI Based Exchange 2010 Dial plan to New Exchange 2013 Servers.
    5) Run Exchucutil.ps1
in Exchange 2013 and OcsUMUtil in Lync 2013 (Again?)
Will this be enough or Do I need to create New Auto attendant or
    Haunt Group etc?
    Thanks for all the help!

  • Unity Connection 9.1.1 - The message is currently unavailable

I've got a customer on a single node CXN 9.1.1.20000-32. Every user is unable to access saved messages only with the error message "The message is currently unavailable". I'm not sure how to troubleshoot that. I'm not aware of a single service which is responsible for only saved messages, and there doesn't appear to be a storage space issue. I shotgunned it a bit and rebooted the server. No change though.
    Any ideas?

    Some additional information:
In typical end user fashion, only saved messages within a specific date range are unable to be placed via the tui (vs ALL saved messages as previously reported). This is output from a port monitor while a user is trying to access one of said messages:

  • Unity Connection on BE6K. 10 messages per user????

I must be misreading this surely! The BE6K Data Sheet quotes
"Voicemail Capacity: 10 voicemail messages per user."
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/prod/collateral/voicesw/ps6788/vcallcon/ps11370/data_sheet_c78-718398_ps11369_Products_Partner_Resources.html
Someone please tell me this is a misprint!
    Rich

Its an estimate.   Meaning if you have 1000 users with voicemail boxes, and you limit them to x minutes, its roughly 10 voicemails.
Voicemail usuage is based on minutes, not so much the number of messages.  IE, (1) message that is 10 minutes long, (2) messages that are 5 minutes long, etc.

  • Unity Connection 8.5(1) Broadcast Messages

I am wondering if I can send Broadcast Messages to a particular System Distribution lists. I don't want to send the Broadcast Cluster wide but only to a department within the company.
I created a new System Distribution List with 600 subscribers in it, but there is no option to pick it when sending a Broadcast Message.
The reason I want to use Broadcasting is so I can set a start and end time and not allow reply or reply to all as well as not set the MWI.

You need to Check the Cisco DRF Master and Local agent logs to find out the reason

  • Unity Connection integration with Outlook problem.

    Hello,
We deploy CUC 7.1 and we integrate it with MS exchange 2007 and outlook, and we perform the recommended configuration to make the voice mail message to be appeared in both Unity connection voice mail store and to be sent to exchange then appeared in outlook as inbox message, we perform that by choosing Accept and Rely option in Message actions tab.
The customer want when the message accessed from the outlook the MWI on turned to MWI off!!!!!
    How can i perform that?
    Thanks

    Hi Ahmed,
What you are wanting is not available with CUC 7.x "Accept and Relay"
In Cisco Unity Connection 7.1, you can use the accept and relay action to instruct Connection to both deliver each message of a certain type to the user mailbox and forward a copy of the message to the relay address. (This is sometimes referred to as "accept and forward.") This option may be useful for users who regularly use a device that accesses a separate server for messages, such as a handheld wireless device, and want easy access to voice messages both on the alternative device and through the Connection user interfaces. If you choose this option, the user receives two copies of each message. The copies are stored in different message stores, and any actions the user takes on the relayed copy are not reflected on the copy stored in the Connection message store.

    You will want to look into CUC 8.5;
New Features for Cisco Unity Connection Version 8.5
    • Unified messaging with Microsoft Exchange 2010:
    • Voice messages are synchronized with the Exchange inbox.
    • MWI and message status are synchronized.
    • Secure, private messages, mobile client, and calendar integration for Exchange 2010 are all supported.
    • You can enable unified messaging for specific users or all users.

  • Unity Connection 8.5 Email Notification

We have CUCM 7.1.5 and Unity Connection 8.5.  Single Inbox.
When receiving a VM, we are getting [email protected]
I was hoping to get [email protected] .  Is there something I'm missing here?  We have a Mult-Tenant environment.
    Thanks.
I will add that we are moving from Unity 7 to Unity Connection 8.5.

    Hi Mike,
Your question was specifically about flexibility with the SMTP domain, which is what I answered.  As far as being able to reply, yes you can reply to voice mail messages just like Unity.  However, it's a tad different.  There may be some extra configuration required on Exchange if your users are not using VMO to reply to these messages.  There was an article written about this exact scenario:
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/community/netpro/collaboration-voice-video/unified-comm-application/blog/2011/07/18/unity-connection-851-single-inbox-unified-messaging-forwardreply-in-outlook-fails-with-ndr

  • Unity Connection 8.5 MWI performance

I'm trying to get some sort of expectation regarding MWI performance with Unity Connection 8.5 and Unified Inbox with Exchange 2010 SP1.
Since my Unity 7x system is working fine in regards to MWI and Exchange 2010 SP1, my test Unity Connection 8.5 system is not. I've seen MWI status changes taking as long as 15 minutes but as little as 5 seconds to come to the Unity Connection 8.5 server. I know the issue is in Exchange, but does anyone have some observed performance from this type of integration?

In my case everything checked out and from all outward appearances should have worked fine.  There was some finger pointing and TAC found several other cases resembling the same thing as I was experiencing.  We upgraded to an engineering special only because it was the only thing newer to upgrade to from what was available online at the time.  It resolved my problem not because it was an ES but I speculate that it just re-initialized some database components.  I suspect sometime during making SMTP domain changes something got messed up and that caused the issue.

  • How to delete multiple messages in the same mailbox all at once? Unity Connection

I just was assigned the task of administrating three Unity Connection servers that are networked. The Operator mailboxes on each system have been taking messages since 2010 and have over 5 thousand messages in them (nearly 3 mega bytes). I've corrected the set up so the mailboxes no longer are taking messages, but would like to delete all the new messages in order free up memory resources, and I don't want to undo all the Call Handler relationships in order to delete the mailboxes and then recreate them, etc. I used the PCA tool  to clean up the Operator MBX on a standalone Unity Connection that had nearly 1800 messages, but it took nearly 30 minutes for the PCA tool to load and another 4.5 hours to delete one message at a time (major carpal tunnel afterwards!).  For these mailboxes with 5-6K messages, the PCA tool was  not loaded after 3 hours!   Is there a faster, more efficient tool for deleting all new messages in a single mailbox? (i.e., Message Hunter?)

    Hi There,
+5 to heath for his good notes!
One nice way with Unity Connection is with the use of this excellent tool from the great suite of Unity Tools (use the ** reset" feature **).
    Unity Connection Bulk User Delete
For resetting users you have the option of emptying the mailbox,  resetting greetings, deleting voice names,  resetting passwords,  removing private lists and a number of other  options you may choose.   For installations where the user base “changes  over” frequently such as  schools this may be a nicer option.  This  option is also allowed for  CoRes installations since it does not involve  the removal of user  objects from the Connection database.

  • Cisco Unity Connection 8.6 Distribution list help.

We have a shared department line on several phones ( say 30  ) with VM and users were accessing the VM  through the telephhone interface.
Recently we had a request from the leadership team ( say 5  ) , that they need unified messaging ( VM in their emails)  for that department line.
How do i make it possible so that the leadership team has the unified messaging( VM in their emails ), while the other user still have access to the dept line VM through telephone interface.
If  I create  distribution list with the the leadership team  as DL members and call handler for the dept line DN with message  setting set to receipients as the distribution list , would that do it ? Will the other users still  be able to access the VM through their phone. how do I make it  possible .?

    Indu,
I understand you requirement and I'll be upfront and say there are only so many options here as I see it and each has its own caveats/limitations.  Here are a couple:
    1.  You will need an SMTP Smart Host configured for Unity Connection for this solution to work.  The Smart Host is just an SMTP relay server and it needs to be configured to accept messages from and deliver messages to the SMTP domain of Unity Connection.  That also means that you need to configure Unity Connection to allow inbound SMTP from this host (i.e., a trusted address configuration).
    2.  You will need an email distribution list or shared email address that you can forward a copy of voice messages for the mailbox to.  That email distribution list needs to have your special users set as members.
    3.  Once the first 2 items are in place, go to the shared mailbox and set the Message Actions for Voicemail to "Accept and Relay" and then specify the relay address as the address for the distribution list you set up in item 2.
    4.  Leave the configuration for the shared mailbox the same except for the accept and relay configuration above.  All users will continue to have the same phone-based functionality.  The difference is that a COPY of every voicemail will be sent to the special users via the relay to distribution list.  The caveat is that this is not Unified Messaging.  It does get the voicemail into email but there is no synchronization of MWI and/or message status for users that rely on email client to check messages.
Another option would be an Integrated Messaging solution.  This also is not Unified Messaging but does provide synchronziation between the shared line and email client; however, it requires that each of your special users set up an IMAP connection from their email client to the Unity Connection server.  So, the messages will not be seen in their personal email inbox but rather in a separate IMAP folder in the email client.

  • Cisco unity connection 8.6.1 / VMware workstation 10.0

Please let me know any specific vmware settings to install unity connection 8.6.1.

You are not getting UCxN option because your VMware configuration is not complying with the minimum requirement to install Unity connection.
If you are not installing through OVA template then look at the VM configuration minimum requirement section of that particular version from the link shared by Aman.

  • Wildcard Certifiate support for Unity Connection

Does Unity Connection started supporting Wildcard cerficates for the Unified messaging with Exchange integration?
CUPS 8.6.4 started supporting it for Calendar integration but we are not getting any document related to Unity Connection which states its supported now.
    BR,
    Sachin

    Hi,
    Thanks for the question.
Okay so I did some digging and found a few details that will help clear this up.
    1. The documentation is wrong and we will be getting it correct as soon as we can. The CUC 9 admin guides states that you need to create an 'External Service' however this configuration has been changed.
    2. Yes, Exch 2010 and I'm sure Exch 2013 will be supported. TTS uses IMAP for the connection method and as long as Exch permits IMAP traffic you're good.
    3. To configure TTS, of course enable IMAP for Exchange. On the CUC side, you'll need to start with the class of service and check the following "Allow Access to Exchange Email by Using Text to Speech (TTS)". Then you'll need to create a new unified messaging service where you add the details of the Exch server and make sure to check "
Access Exchange Email by Using Text to Speech (TTS)". Then apply that UM service to an end user and test. FYI, when you check the message from the TUI it will be the option of external messages (default option 7).
Let me know if you have any other questions.
    Good Luck,
    Brad

  • Unity Connections 8.6.2a Single Inbox Problem

We have a Unity Connections Server version 8.6.2a talking to Exchange 2010 SP1.  We have verified Authenications, HTTPS, Certs etc.  If we run a test from the Edit Unified Messaging Screen, we get the following:
    Severity                               Issue                               Recommendation                               Details

  • Import Export from CUE to Unity Connection 8+

After looking on CiscoUnityTools.com I see there is one CUE tool for importing Users and recorded name WAVs from CUE into Cxn 8+
Does anyone have a method for moving all the users AND voicemails from CUE systems into Unity Connection, any version?

    Hi there,
There are no "free" tools that will migrate greetings and messages
    from CUE to Connection.
    The one place to look is @ Cisco partner CommonVoices "Now There";
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/voicesw/ps6789/ps5745/ps6509/solutions_partner_cuc.pdf
    They do claim to;
    Switch from any traditional
    system to Cisco Unity®
    Connection
    • Greetings, name
    announcements, existing
    messages, and call trees are
    all retained along with
    message status
    • 10 years of experience
    migrating millions of mailboxes
    worldwide
    http://www.commonvoices.com/products/NowThere.php
What many people do when migrating to a new voicemail system is to leave the
old system accessible for a period of time so that users can access their old
messages. This is what we did when migrating from Octel to Unity Connection

  • Cisco Unity Connection single inbox and viewmail error

Unity Connection 8.5.1 single inbox with Exchange 2010 and viewmail 8.5.4.  We arein the process of migrating from Unity 7.0.2 to Unity Connection.
We are a lawfirm and many of our admins have full access to their attorney's exchange mailbox to manage their messages and voicemails.  With Connection those admins can no longer access voicemails in exchange accounts other than their own even if they have full access.
A message pops up stating "the requested voice message is no longer available" and only dead air is played whether playback via phone or speakers is selected.  This is a huge issue for our end users.
Has anyone else experienced this or hav eany suggestions for a work around?
I have tried assigning the mailbox access delegation role to an end user but this did not grant access via vewmail.
    Thanks
    Liz

    Hi Liz,
This is expected behavior because VMO has certain dependencies mapped between users and messages, so when a different user tries to access the message, it can't find the mapping which is why you receive that message.  However, VMO 8.6(4) introduced the ability for this exact group mailbox access feature you're after.
