Unity Connection 8.5 Upgrade to 10 Licensing Question

Hello,
Have a question about the licensing migration of Unity Connection 8.5 Upgrade to 10, do we need to order a upgrade license via PUT tool for license migration, or we can just finish the migration without have Cisco licensing team involved?

You need to order it through PUT, but keep in mind that you will not receive a PAK for CUCM or UCXN 9 or 10 as the licenses need to be migrated to ELM. Once you upgrade ELM will be installed on each node and you pick one as your ELM server, then you follow the steps to migrate your license directly from ELM, email the request to cisco licensing and they will provide the license. You have 60 days to install new license after the upgrade.

  • Unity Connection Speech Connect guest user licensing

    I have set up Speech Connect on Unity Connection 8.0(2b) and have a question about importing or manually adding non-inbox users to the Speech Connect directory. From the sparse documents on this feature for Unity Connection it appears that you need to license the server per user to allow this. I have been able to import users from AD and manually add them, but the Corporate Phone Number field is grayed out and blank. We currently don't have any guest licenses installed.
    Does anyone know if by adding guest licenses the Corporate Phone Number field would be either filled in during an AD import or editable if adding a user manually?

    For non-subscribers, you need to purchase the appropriate amount of licenses for guest directory user access.  The SKU is:
    Speech Connect Guest User for Cisco Unity Connection
    (for names in the company directory that do not have a Cisco Unity Connection user license)
    UNITYCN-SCGUEST
    I believe the use of contacts ties into this as well.  When you create system contacts in Cisco Unity Connection Administration and enable them to be listed in the directory, they can then be accessed by users from the Connection directory. This allows callers to transfer to the extension of the system contact.  I would try that first to see if it allows you to add a contact and enable them for directory access.

  • Licensing for Unity Connection after Upgrade from 8.5 to 9.1.2

    I upgraded my Unity connection from 8.5.1 to 9.1.2. ( my CUCM is still on 8.5.1) . I have 200 CUWL-STD ( 2200 DLUs), and 50 CUWL-PRO (850 DLUs) . Now I am working with Cisco to get a license file for Unity Connection and apply that to my ELM. I attached my licensing page for when I was in 8.5.1 . Just want to make sure if I will be getting enough license with that license file, or possibly I need to buy more. Someone told me that if I want to have users with mailbox I need to order more licenses since every user take one CUWL license.
    Honestly i do not know how CUWL licensing work regardig to Unity or even CUCM.

  • Unity Connection Upgrade from 8.6.2 to 9.1 latest version

    Hi,
    Am planning to Upgrade my CUC(Unity Connection) from 8.6.2 to 9.1 latest version, having my Call manager in the same version 8.6.2. I will upgrade my Call Manager from 8.6.2 to 9.X later.
    Hope i can upgrade my CUC first.
    I need some info like,
    1) Am not getting the image to download which can upgrade from 8.6.2 to 9.1 latest version directly. Should i have to move to 9.0 first and then to 9.1 ??
    2) Is their any pre cautions need to be taken care/ well known issues during the upgrade.
    3) Also, hope licensing get migrated automatically (no need to have extra efforts)
    4) Advantages of Moving to 9.x wrt to features compared to 8.6.

  • Unity Connection 8.6 to 10.5(2) Upgrade

    I am planning the following upgrade which I have completed fine in our lab , I just have a query in regard to this statement I found in the upgrade guide.
    If you are upgrading from Unity Connection 8.6 or earlier, you must install all the applicable licenses before you upgrade to Unity Connection release 9.x and later. This is because the installed license information considered as legacy license data is required to migrate licenses. After you upgrade to Unity Connection 9.x and later releases, you can not apply legacy licenses using the Prime License Manager. For more information see the Migrating Licenses from Unity Connection 8.6 and Earlier Releases section.
    I'm not sure what Cisco mean by "applicable licences" .Do they mean any outstanding licencing for 8.6 or perhaps the new licencing for PLM (though I doubt it).We are already running CUCM 10.5 with PLM so I was just going to point the unity connection server at it once done but this worried me a little.
    anyone got a view on this?

    It means ensure you have all your 8.6 licensing (everythign you bought so far) on the server before you upgrade. When you upgrade, you'll migrate to ELM, and that will get licenses based on what you had on your 8.6 at the point of the upgrade.
    If you don't do that you'll have to go through some pain with Cisco, proving what you bought, providing SO numbers etc etc.

    I've contacted TAC regarding how to do this upgrade in regards to licensing and I was told to email them the old (Unity 4.0) license MAC and the new server (Unity Connection 8.5) license MAC and they'll generate a new license for me.

    They are just looking for the MAC of the Unity server (current)
    To Get the MAC Address of the Cisco Unity Computer
    Step 1 On the computer on which Cisco Unity will be installed, do one of the following:
    •If the server contains a dual NIC that has been configured for fault tolerance, run the NIC-configuration utility provided by the manufacturer, and write down the MAC address (excluding hyphens) that is shared by the two NICs. Then skip the rest of this procedure.
    •If the server does not contain a dual NIC or if the server contains a dual NIC that is not configured for fault tolerance, on the Windows Start menu, click Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
    Step 2 In the Command Prompt window, enter ipconfig /all, and press Enter.
    Step 3 Write down the value of Physical Address, excluding the hyphens, or save it to a file that you can access during online registration. (For example, if the physical address is 00-A1-B2-C3-D4-E5, record 00A1B2C3D4E5.)
    If the server contains a dual NIC, two values will appear. Write down the value for the NIC that you will use to connect the Cisco Unity server to the network.
    Step 4 Close the Command Prompt window.

  • Upgrade Unity 7.02 to Unity Connection 9.1.2

    According to the Cisco document, we chose 'Flash Cutover' to migrate the configuration and data. We also, want to install the Unity conneciton on a virtual server during the upgrade. Can I migrate the old license or I have to purchase a new license for the new Unity Connection server?

    We have been looking to upgrade from unity express to unity connection. Is there a part number for licensing regarding unity connection? I've searched the admin guide but can't find it.
    All we need is licensing for 297 mailboxes.

    Assuming you have UCSS coverage you can actually place a PUT order to upgrade directly to Unity Connection with the same license entitlements. Just make sure that the specific MCS server you ordered is compatible (most Unity servers are).

    the cert shown in the logs is the one from cucm: ("CallManager"), i recreated it through cucm os administration, now i see the same error message on unity connection for the new recreated certificate.

    Actually It doesn't. It says he's on a MacBook. I don't know all the different types of Macs. I was having a ton of problems with iChat. I opened DMZ to my computer, knocked down all firewalls etc and left everything exposed, still with bad results. A few weeks ago my power supply went out on my D-Link. I bought a linksys. Since I'd left all firewalls off I figured it couldn't be the router. I power cycled everything n the netork, still no luck. Today I bought a universal Power supply and started up my D-Link Router. Everything worked perfectly. My wifes computer - a laptop running Tiger worked fine with the Linksys and did my machine before the Leopard upgrade. Now that I've got the D-Link online everythings working.

  • Upgrading Unity Connection from 7.1.5 to 8.5.1 - not working

    I am attempting to upgrade our unity connection boxes from 7.1.5 to 8.5.1.
    I have legacy MCS 7845H2 - It has 4 disks - 2 mirrors of 72gb disks. 4mb of RAM and 2 X 2.3ghz processors
    I have UCS C210 VMWare Hosts.
    I have attempted 2 migration methods.
    The first method involves - upgrading the existing system and restoring a backup of this to a VM
    This fails with a hardware compatablity check.
    The second method involves - backup existing systen - build VM at same level (using recommending OVA) - restore data onto VM - upgrade VM
    This fails with a restore problem - I have used 'TITAN' ftp, but please note the backup is < 900mb.
    The error is
    Physical restore failed - could not fork server connection, SQLCODE -25596
    Program over.
    Restore failed during Unity Connection DB ontape restore operation.

    Tks Manish, I just perform a restart on the both nodes on my CUC cluster and after that I did can install this upgrade patch.
    Also is very important install the upgrade patch on all servers of the cluster before perform a switch-version on the publisher and then on the others nodes.

  • Cisco Unity Connection 8.5.1 SU3 to 8.5.1 SU6 & Upgrade to 9.1.2

    Two questions !
    Firstly  - I am upgrading to the latest patch level as I want to upgrade the systems to 9.1.X
    I am installing UCSInstall_UCOS_8.5.1.16900-6.sgn.iso onto the inactive partition on the publisher then onto the inactive partition on the subscriber.
    Then I plan to switch versions out of hours.
    Question - will messages / data that has happened between the installation on the inactive partition and the switch version be preserved ??
    So if I install onto the inactive partition at 1pm, then an important message is left at 2pm and I switch version at 3pm, does the iimportant message exist on the active partition at the end ??
    Second question -
    I have UCCX-8.5.1 SU4 (HA), CUC 8.5.1 SU6 (HA) and CUCM 8.5.1 SU6 (1 pub, 2 sub) - so 7 VM's in total.
    If I want to migrate to -
    UCSInstall_UCOS_9.1.2.12900-11.sgn.iso &  UCSInstall_UCCX_9_0_2_UCOS_9.0.2.11002-27.sgn.iso
    in which order should the installations take place ?? CUCM Publisher last ?? Publisher first ??

    Messages are preserved during the "switch-version" so the messages left before the command is run will be preserved as they are stored in a "common" partition;
    Switching to the Upgraded Version of Connection 8.x Software
    If you chose not to automatically switch to the upgraded partition at the end of the upgrade, do the following procedure when you are ready to switch partitions.
    To Switch to the Upgraded Version of Connection 8.x Software
    Step 1 If you do not have a recent backup, back up the server by using the Disaster Recovery System. For more information, see the Disaster Recovery System Administration Guide for Cisco Unity Connection Release 8.x athttp://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/8x/drs_administration/guide/8xcucdrsag.html.
    Step 2 Sign in to Cisco Unified Operating System Administration.
    Step 3 From the Settings menu, select Version.
    Step 4 On the Version Settings page, select Switch Versions, and the following occurs:
    •Connection services are stopped.
    •Data from the partition where the older version is installed is copied to the partition where the newer version is installed. If changes to the database schema require updates to the format of data, that occurs in this step. Note that messages are stored in a common partition, so they are not copied.
    •The Connection server restarts and switches to the newer version.
    Note You can check the status of the installation of the upgrade software by using the CLI command show cuc version. The upgrade is complete when the inactive partition has the upgraded software and the active partition has the old software.

The upgrade guide for Unity Connection 8.x provides information on the process of migrating from Unity to UCXN however the upgrade guide for UCXN 10.5 does not. My question is whether or not it is possible to upgrade from Unity 7 directly to UCXN 10.5 in order to save from purchasing UCXN 8 (which may not even be possible anymore due to end of sale)?
    Any info you may be able to provide to assist with this situation would be greatly appreciated.

    You can use the COBRAS tool to take a backup from Unity 7.0 and restore it on Unity Connection 10.5. Consolidated Object Backup and Restore Application Suite (COBRAS) is a set of tools designed to allow administrators to backup all subscribers, call handlers, interview handlers, public distribution lists, and schedules and to restore some or all of that information onto another Unity or Connection server.  It is specifically designed to allow for partial restores, restores onto different versions or products than the version that was backed up, and “merges” of data from multiple system backups.

    The link lists support upto Unity Connection 10.0 , but 10.5 is also supported.
