Unity Connection drops

Hello,
I was hoping to get some ideas on how to troubleshoot this.
We just finished a migration and 'go-live' from Unity 7.0(2) to Unity Connection 8.5. Our existing CUCM is 7.1.5 (this did not change with the Unity migration). Seemingly randomly audio will drop with functions related to Unity Connection. This includes, trying to leave a message, listenting to a message, or a voice menu. This happens whether it's an internal (CUCM) or external (PSTN) call. However, when it happens internally on our 7940 phones, there is a "Temp Fail" message displayed.
Unity Connection is running on VMware ESXi 4.1, on a supported HP BL460c server. The OVA installed without problem and Unity Connection installed passing it's hardware verification routine. Unity Connection is the ONLY virtual machine running on this hardware and we plan to keep it that way. This is the first time we've virtualized a Cisco product on VMware, however, we have a couple hundred other servers already on VMware, so VMware itself is not new to us. Our Unity 7.0(2) system ran on one of Cisco's HP MCS platforms and was not virtualized. Also, Unity Connection is currently a stand-alone; it is not installed in a cluster.
Admittedly I am very new to "Unity Connection", however, several years of "Unity" and CUCM under my belt. Can anyone provide some ideas on where to start looking for this problem?
Thanks,
-Mike

Barry,
I'll be honest, I don't know exactly what version we ended up with, here's what "About" reports:
Cisco Unity Connection version: 8.5.1.10000-206
We were having a series of failures in our Unity 7.0(2), apparently as a result of us moving to Windows 2008r2 domain controllers and/or our move from Exchange 2003 to 2010. So our vendor's engineer came over and slapped in the latest copy he could find and fast-tracked the license migration process. My actual 'real' copy of the software was only just order iva the PUT tool the day our Unity crapped out (yesterday).
We got the problem resolved. It was in the VMware config as Adam suggests below. But we've got some other less major oddities that RTMT may help with. I appreciate the suggestion.
Cheers!
-Mike

  • Unity connection SMPP provider

we migrated from unity 7.02 to unity connection 8.62a. Our SMPP provider however is complaining however that the tcp sessions are being kept open to their sms gateway since we migrated . No issues before , each session was opened up and then closed  but apparently now the session is being kept open . we have been told that we must adjust the client end (our unity connection server) to drop the session.
the client was not closing connections anymore, but creating one for each message.
Leaving aside the fact that it is not a good practice to create a separate session for each message
'the client was is closing connections anymore, but creating one for each message.
Leaving aside the fact that it is not a good practice to create a separate session for each message'
the 1st two slides show the unity setup and the 3rd shows the unity connection setup.
any advise on how to make this change or as to why theres a difference between the two clients would be appreciated.

    Hello Jeff,
It would be interesting to see what CUC reports in this situation to confirm or refute the provider.
My suggestion would be to enable the following traces:
    Problem Area
    Traces to Set
    RTMT Service to Select
    Trace Log Filename
    SMS notifications
Notifier (all levels except 6 and 7)
    Connection Conversation Manager
    diag_CuCsMgr_*.uc
    Connection Notifier
    diag_CuNotifier_*.uc
Also a packet capture on the CUC (pub and sub if applicable), from CLI do:
    -  This command starts the initiation of gathering packets:
utils network capture eth0 count 100000 size all file
Where 'filename' is a random name that you would like to provide; the 'count' is the size of the packets that will be captured.
Once this capture is running you can reproduce the issue and once you finish hold Crtl+C and that will terminate the capture session.
-The file will be saved in platform/cli/filename.cap
Where 'filename' is a random name that you provided.
To gather the packet capture go to: RTMT (Real Time Monitoring Tool)>Trace and Log central> Collect Files> Click Next> Packet Capture.
I haven't ever run into this issue before, therefore posible steps are unlikely unless there is more information on the CUC perspective with further tracing/debugging.
    Sincerely,
    -Vavid

  • Are there compatibility issues between Unity Connection 8.5.1 and IE 11

Just recently installed IE 11 and now when I log in to Unity and try to use one of the drop downs, like "edit" to edit a greeting or password or whatever it doesn't drop anything down. • Unity Connection 9.1.2 - MS Exchange 2013 support for Single Mailbox?

    Hello,
we are currently running a unity connection system in version 9.1.2TT1.11900 together with single mailbox enabled with our Exchange server in version 2007.
We are now planning to upgrade the exchange server to version 2013. From my understanding Exchange 2013 is supported with CUCN 9.1.2 (see http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/9x/design/guide/9xcucdgx/9xcucdg020.html).
When i go to the configuration screens I cannot choose Exchange 2013 ... Is there a special way to configure this or is 2013 not supported with Unity connection 9.1.2 ?
    any hints ?
    Michael

    Exchange 2013 is supported.
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/9x/unified_messaging/guide/9xcucumgx/9xcucumg020.html#17832
If you choose to allow Unity Connection to search for Exchange servers, then you need to select from the following two options:
    – Exchange 2007 and/or 2010: Unity Connection can access every mailbox in the Exchange organization consisting of Exchange 2007, Exchange 2010, and Exchange 2013.
    – Exchange 2003, 2007 and/or 2010: Unity Connection can access every mailbox in the Exchange organization consisting of Exchange 2003, Exchange 2007, and Exchange 2010. When the Exchange organization includes Exchange 2003 servers, Unity Connection always communicates directly with the Exchange back-end servers, it never communicates with Exchange front-end servers.
The drop down does not state 2013 but it will work fine for 2013..

  • Unity Connection transfer to external number plays music on hold continuously.

We found an issue when transfer external calls out of Unity Connection (9.0 and 9.1) that the Music on Hold continuously plays and never connects the call.
The outgoing calls are going out SIP.  The call does get placed and does connect to the external number but it is promptly dropped as the transfer does not complete.  The calling party only hears hold music.
Through testing we found that this only happens when the call goes out SIP.  We also found that the issue is resolved when changing the Transfer Rules from Release to Switch to Supervise Transfer.
Would we need to change each User's Transfer Rules to Supervise Transfer or is there another way to release the transfer?  Is this a bug?

    Hi Jennifer,
Your issue seems to be as below.
Problem 2. Call is Connected and then Disconnected
The call is connected and then it is disconnected. The call transfer is successful when an internal extension initiates the call whereas the call fails, if the calling side is from PSTN.
    Call Flow
PSTN>H323 GW>CUCM>Unity Connection Call Handler (Any Caller Input - Transfer to Alternate Contact Number)>External Number or CTI RP with CFA to External Number.
    Core Issue/Call Flow Analysis
Here is an analysis of the call flow and the common problem for a failed call transfer:
The First call leg is a H323 Fast Start, from the Gateway to the CUCM. CUC receives the call and transfers the call back to CUCM. CUCM in turn places the first call on hold and initiates a new call to the PSTN.
The second call leg is a H323 Slow start. Finally, when the call is answered, the CUCM or the Gateway does not send H245 capabilities. This causes a timeout and the call is disconnected.
    Solution
By default, Wait for Far End H.245 Terminal Capability Set (TCS) check box is checked. As a result, CUCM expects the far-end H.245 TCS before it sends its H.245 TCS. If this checkbox is unchecked, CUCM must initiate capabilities exchange.
In order to resolve this problem:
Uncheck the Wait for Far End H.245 Terminal Capability Set (TCS) check box.
    Or
Make a change on the gateway so that the gateway initiates capabilities exchange.
Enter these commands in order to configure a change required on the gateway.
    conf t
        voice service voip
       h323
              h225 start-h245 on-connect
            exit

  • Unity Connections 8.6.x - Independent-persistent disk requirement for VM?

Does anyone know why Unity Connections has a requirement for it's vDisks to be set to independant-persistant mode? I don't see this requirement for any other UC application and would prefer to not set it in this mode as it prevents us for taking a snapshot when the machine is shutdown. I know that snapshots are not officially supported, but it is a great back-out plan in the case of doing maintenance off hours and deleting the snapshot before using the VM in production.
    Expanation of Independent Disks:
Independent Disks are not affected by snapshots.
Persistent - Changes are immediately and permanently written to the disk.
Where I found the Cisco requirements:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/8x/requirements/8xcucsysreqs.html
"All virtual disks assigned to the Connection virtual machine must be configured  in independent-persistent mode, which provides the best storage performance."

Yea I also noticed that the OVA did not apply this setting. I have turned this on manually as this document states it is a requirement. Just wondering if this requirement has been droped at some point since that secton of the document was last modified June 9th 2011. I can't seem to find the requirement anywhere else beside this document and it is not stated anywhere that it was dropped.

  • BT Wi-Fi connection drops and cannot be closed

I use BT Wi-Fi on a monthly subscription - 500 minutes for £6 a month, plus 12p a minute for any extra minutes.
Occasionally my connection drops, and I have to reconnect and login again, which I can do OK.
But when I check later how many minutes I used, via my online subscription info, it's clear that I end up with two connections running in parallel. The connection which dropped carries on as active in the background somewhere until it is eventually auto-disconnected (after 15 or 20 minutes ?) due to inactivity. So I lose those minutes each time this happens.
There is no way to close the dropped connection. Even if I log out of my new 2nd connection, it only closes that one, not the dropped one which I can't access.
Today this happened when I was at the end of my monthly allowance, so because I couldn't close the connection I've now gone around 30 minutes over my allowance, which will cost me £3.60.
Please can we have a way of closing all connections on a BT Wi-Fi account, to deal with this issue.
And a refund would be good, as I had no way of preventing my account going into the 12p a minute rate.

  • Unity Connection 7 with overlapping extension

    Hello everybody,
I'm deploying a CUCM 7.1.3 + Unity Connecion 7.1.3 to a customer, and I have a doubt when using overlapping extension. As it's a large environment, he has overlapping extension number in his multiple sites. For example, both SiteA and SiteB have the extension range 8XXX. In CUCM I have configured some translations patterns, so that an user from SiteA should dial 118XXX in order to reach SiteB, and an user in SiteB should dial 218XXX in order to reach site A. And each site has its own line partition to extension numbers. And everything works fine...
But these users are all in the same Unity Connection Server. So I would have users from SiteA and SiteB with the same extension in Unity Connection, and I can't do that. What I know can do is to configure some partitions from SiteA and SiteB in CUC, and put each subscriber in one partition, right?
But when a user wants to reach the voice mail to get his messages, how Unity Connection knows from which location is he?
Please, anyone could advise me how can I proceed with this configuration?
    Thank you!!!

    Hello,
I workarounded my problem creating multiple VM Profiles, and assigning a diferent Voice Mail Box Mask for each. And in Unity connection I created a alternate extension for each user.
For example... the extension 6000 from SiteA has the VM Profile VM_SiteA, which has the voicemail box mask 11XXXX. And this user in Connection has the alternate extension 116000. And the extension 6000 from SiteB has the VM Profile VM_SiteB, which has the voicemail box mask 21XXXX, and this user has this number as alternate extension as well (216000)... It works fine like this.
But actually I haven't tested the MWI... If I have a translation pattern in CUCM that translates 11XXXX to XXXX (in partition from SiteA), and another 21XXXX to XXXX (in partition from SiteB), and configure the MWI extension in Connection to be 11XXXX and 21XXXX, will it work? Have anyone already tested this?
    Thank you very much!!!

  • Unity Connection integration with Outlook problem.

    Hello,
We deploy CUC 7.1 and we integrate it with MS exchange 2007 and outlook, and we perform the recommended configuration to make the voice mail message to be appeared in both Unity connection voice mail store and to be sent to exchange then appeared in outlook as inbox message, we perform that by choosing Accept and Rely option in Message actions tab.
The customer want when the message accessed from the outlook the MWI on turned to MWI off!!!!!
    How can i perform that?
    Thanks

    Hi Ahmed,
What you are wanting is not available with CUC 7.x "Accept and Relay"
In Cisco Unity Connection 7.1, you can use the accept and relay action to instruct Connection to both deliver each message of a certain type to the user mailbox and forward a copy of the message to the relay address. (This is sometimes referred to as "accept and forward.") This option may be useful for users who regularly use a device that accesses a separate server for messages, such as a handheld wireless device, and want easy access to voice messages both on the alternative device and through the Connection user interfaces. If you choose this option, the user receives two copies of each message. The copies are stored in different message stores, and any actions the user takes on the relayed copy are not reflected on the copy stored in the Connection message store.

  • Unity Connection Integration with CS 1000 and Meridian 81 - PIMG

I have a customer who have  (2) Nortel Meridian 81 and (1) CS1000  for their 3 locations along with Octal 350 servicing 2500 voicemail users today. Customer also has a  Cisco UCM in their network today which is servicing their wireless phone users.
UCM and CS1000 are networked together using Q.Sig trunks today. Customer is looking at replacing their Octal solution with a new Voice mail solution.

    Hi there,
Just to add a note to the great tips from Hailey (+5 Hailey!)
We are in the final stages of replacing our "old" Octel with Unity Connection, part of
which is integrated to our CS1000 and CUCM in a "Hybrid" deployment like yours
    Centralized Voice Messaging
Cisco Unity Connection supports centralized voice messaging through the phone system, which supports
various inter-phone system networking protocols including proprietary protocols such as Avaya DCS,
Nortel MCDN, or Siemens CorNet, and standards-based protocols such as QSIG or DPNSS. Note that
centralized voice messaging is a function of the phone system and its inter-phone system networking,
not voice mail. Connection will support centralized voice messaging as long as the phone system and its
inter-phone system networking are properly configured.
Setting Up a Nortel Meridian 1 Digital PIMG
    Integration with Cisco Unity Connection
    Attachments:
    cucwithnortel.pdf (308.1 K)
Centralized voice messaging provides voice messaging services to all users in a networked phone system environment. Connection can be hosted on a message center PINX and provide voice messaging services to all users in an enterprise assuming the message center PINX and all user PINX phone systems are properly networked. For a centralized voice messaging configuration to exist, a suitable inter-phone system networking protocol must exist to deliver a minimum level of feature support, such as:•Message waiting indication (MWI).•Transfer, which ensures that the correct calling/called party ID is delivered to the voice messaging system.•Divert, which ensures that the correct calling/called party ID is delivered to the voice messaging system.Other features may be required depending on how the voice messaging system is to be used. For example, if it is also serving as an automated attendant, path-replacement is needed as this feature prevents calls from hair-pinning.

  • Voice Mail Ports Rejected in CUCM - Unity Connection

    Hi to all,
I have a CUCM v9.1 cluster (1 Pub and 2 Subs) with two device pools (DP_Site_A and DP_Site_B), each DP has a call manager group that has the Subscriber for each site as the Primary CUCM Server in order of registration: DP_Site_A -> CMGroup_A ( 1° Sub_A and 2° Sub_B) ,
    DP_Site_B -> CMGroup_B ( 1° Sub_B and 2° Sub_A).
The issue that I have is that when I configure the voice ports in the CUCM with either DP_Site_A or DP_Site_B I always get those ports as "Rejected" in the registration status BUT if i leave the DP for the voice ports as default they get registered and actually work fine with voice mails.
My Unity Connection is v9.1 too.
Any ideas about what can be causing this behavior??
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi Alfonso,
Can you check these settings in CUC for the "Secondary" CUCM (Sub) server config
    to make sure the Subs are listed as part of the SCCP registration;
Step 32 On the Edit Servers page, do the following substeps if the Cisco Unified CM cluster has secondary servers. Otherwise, skip to Step 33.
    a. Under Cisco Unified Communications Manager Servers, click Add.

  • Unity Connection Voice Mail Only- NO MWI template

I am deploying a site with 8,000 mailboxes.  4,000 of those users are voice mail only without a telephone and will NOT require MWI.
I can manually remove the MWI setting from each mailbox, but I am looking at either a BATCH CSV setting or a TEMPLATE that I can turn OFF mwi when creating the users.
    Any ideas?
    TIA

    Hi there,
This setting change is available via Bulk Edit
Bulk Edit> Messages> Disable MWI functionality for this user
Bulk Edit changed in 8.x from where it was accessed in 7.x.
Here's a clip that speaks to how this is run now. You first search and select all
    the users you want to change and then choose Bulk Edit;
To Edit User Account Information in Bulk Edit Mode (some editing from original > this example
is for Caller Input settings but you'll see the point)
Step 1 In Cisco Unity Connection Administration, on the Search Users page, check the applicable user check boxes, and select Bulk Edit.
If the user accounts that you want to edit in bulk do not all appear on  one Search page, check all applicable check boxes on the first page,  then go to the next page and check all applicable check boxes, and so  on, until you have selected all applicable users. Then select Bulk Edit.
Step 2 On the Edit Caller Input page, change settings as applicable.
Note The  Status message at the top of the Edit Caller Input page tells you how  many user accounts are being edited. Also note that the page is  populated only with the fields that you are allowed to edit in bulk  mode, and that the fields available for edit also depend on whether all  of the user accounts reside on the local server.
Step 3 If applicable, set the Bulk Edit Task Scheduling Fields to schedule the Bulk Edit operation for a later date and/or time.
    Step 4 Select Submit.
Step 5 If  applicable, continue to change settings for these user accounts on the  related pages available from the Edit menu. As you make changes on each  page, select Submit before going on to the next page to make additional changes.

Try a couple of test users first to come up with the exact plan.
If you prefer you can also use Bulk Edit via .csv
    As a test here I tried the Bulk Edit and chose;
User with Voicemail > Users referenced in this CSV file > Next
This then allowed me to browse to an existing "basic" .csv that I had
used to create a test user recently when playing with BAT. In this .csv
I had one user named Bob Uncle with DN/ext 5126. So when I used this method
the Bulk Edit tool (smart puppy ) selected only Bob Uncle for my edit choices
and I was able to change the Disable MWI functionality for this user
Again, please try manipulating some test users to perfect
    your methodology.
I have attached the test .csv I used
    Cheers!

  • Unity Connection Voice Mail ports

    Hi experts
    I hava simple question.
I have a UCS M3BE server with 2 CPU, as per the link http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/9x/supported_platforms/9xcucspl.html#wp810181 with 2 No's of CPU it supports only 100 ports per Virtual Machine and for the cluster it supports 200 ports.so in the CUCM Voice Mail Port Wizard i shld put figures 200 or 100??,
i think i shld put voice mail ports 100 on CUCM with name CiscoUM1-VI with 100 ports when selecting ports on CUC-publisher
then again creating voice mail ports 100 on CUCM with name CiscoUM2-VI with 100 ports when selecting ports on CUC-subscriber
    Thanks

    Hi Jack,
Can you try installing the cop file from the following link
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/community/netpro/collaboration-voice-video/unified-comm-application/blog/2013/04/17/unity-connection-911-unable-to-create-more-than-8-ports
Although this bug fix is for installations with one CPU you can give it a try.
