Unity Connections 8.6.x - Independent-persistent disk requirement for VM?

Does anyone know why Unity Connections has a requirement for it's vDisks to be set to independant-persistant mode? I don't see this requirement for any other UC application and would prefer to not set it in this mode as it prevents us for taking a snapshot when the machine is shutdown. I know that snapshots are not officially supported, but it is a great back-out plan in the case of doing maintenance off hours and deleting the snapshot before using the VM in production.
Expanation of Independent Disks:
Independent Disks are not affected by snapshots.
Persistent - Changes are immediately and permanently written to the disk.
Where I found the Cisco requirements:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/8x/requirements/8xcucsysreqs.html
"All virtual disks assigned to the Connection virtual machine must be configured  in independent-persistent mode, which provides the best storage performance."

Yea I also noticed that the OVA did not apply this setting. I have turned this on manually as this document states it is a requirement. Just wondering if this requirement has been droped at some point since that secton of the document was last modified June 9th 2011. I can't seem to find the requirement anywhere else beside this document and it is not stated anywhere that it was dropped.

  • Unity Connection 9.1.2 - MS Exchange 2013 support for Single Mailbox?

    Hello,
we are currently running a unity connection system in version 9.1.2TT1.11900 together with single mailbox enabled with our Exchange server in version 2007.
We are now planning to upgrade the exchange server to version 2013. From my understanding Exchange 2013 is supported with CUCN 9.1.2 (see http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/9x/design/guide/9xcucdgx/9xcucdg020.html).
When i go to the configuration screens I cannot choose Exchange 2013 ... Is there a special way to configure this or is 2013 not supported with Unity connection 9.1.2 ?
    any hints ?
    Michael

    Exchange 2013 is supported.
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/9x/unified_messaging/guide/9xcucumgx/9xcucumg020.html#17832
If you choose to allow Unity Connection to search for Exchange servers, then you need to select from the following two options:
    – Exchange 2007 and/or 2010: Unity Connection can access every mailbox in the Exchange organization consisting of Exchange 2007, Exchange 2010, and Exchange 2013.
    – Exchange 2003, 2007 and/or 2010: Unity Connection can access every mailbox in the Exchange organization consisting of Exchange 2003, Exchange 2007, and Exchange 2010. When the Exchange organization includes Exchange 2003 servers, Unity Connection always communicates directly with the Exchange back-end servers, it never communicates with Exchange front-end servers.
The drop down does not state 2013 but it will work fine for 2013..

  • Snow Leopard Disk Requirement for BootCamp

    Hi,
I'm installing Windows 7 (64-bit) on my Mac, and I was reading over the "Windows 7 FAQ's" on Apple's support site. I was a bit confused when I saw this: +"Windows 7 requires Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard and the Boot Camp 3.1 Update. For complete system requirements information, see this article."+ I got my iMac in September of 2008, and I only received an OSX Leopard 10.5.2 install disk. However, I upgraded my iMac to Snow Leopard, when it came out the next year and I am running 10.6.4 right now. I have the Snow Leopard disk, that I bought from the Apple store for $29. So, is this the disk they talked about on their website, or should I use the 10.5 disk that came with my Mac?
    Thank You So Much!!!
    iMac Specs:
    20" Screen
    3 GB RAM
    250GB Hardrive
    Intel Core 2 Duo
    Mac OSX 10.6.4

    Hi,
the Snow Leopard DVD you have bought also contains the BootCamp 3.0 drivers needed for installing WIndows 7
After you have installed these drivers you can then download and install the 3.1 driver update for Windows 7 form here http://support.apple.com/downloads/#bootcamp
Make sure to get the correct 64-bit package.
And since it is a .exe file you have to install it while in Windows.

From the view mail inbox if i "Right Click" any email and the "Click ON Forward" I am able to forward the Voice Message from the ViewMail to the IBM LOTUS Domino user [ that is forwarding it to EMAIL Account ], but if I try to forward it to unity user is gives "Failure Delivery".
Now when I double click the individual voice mail message in ViewMail account and then click on "Forward/reply/NewMemo" icon available on the individual voice message window that I have opened ,I get an error as stated below

where 10.0.0.152 is the IP-Address of my Unity Connection Server.
Also just for the information I am able to Login into Cisco PCA for alll the users and able to view the Inbox.
I am able to forward the VoiceMessages between Unity Connection users via CISCO PCA without facing any issue.
A Quick Help will be much appreciated .......... :-)
    Hasan Jafri

    Hello Craig,
After spending sometime on troubleshooting , just for testing purpose I created two new Unity Connection Voice Mail User and configured VMN [VoiceMail for Notes] account on the same lotus Notes.
Interestingly this time I was able to use Reply & Reply to All option to send the Voice Message via VMN. {WORKING JUST FINE,NO PROBLEM WHAT SO EVER ]
But still I am NOT able to use Forward option to send the Voice Messages via VMN.
REPLY WITH HISTORY & REPLY TO ALL WITH HISTORY options are also not working.
This is error that I am getting
"Error in QueryServe in CoreUCClasses 213 at line 336:Vmws:The remote server returned an error:(403) Forbidden
I HAVE CREATED VIDEO RECORDING FOR THIS ERROR & WORKING PART OF THE CONFIG TO GIVE YOU A BETTER IDEA OF THE PROBLEM.
Its 7 MB Recording. I hope you can easily Download.
Also important point is that i don't see any previous error that was accuring during my earlier testing.
    Thanks & Regards,

  • Unity Connection 8.5 mailbox quotas

I configured mailbox quotas for user mailbox
    Send/receive quota is 3 Mgb
    Send Quota is 2 Mgb
    Warning Quota is 1 Mgb
User mailbox is already 3.5 Mgb
HOwever, when i  call this user from internal or external number - i still can leave a mesage for this user ( i expected system DOES NOT ALLOW to leave any new mesage for this user because his voicemail box is already exceeds Send/receive quota which is  3 Mgb )
Checkbox for option "Full Mailbox Check for Outside Caller Messages"is already checked in
What is wrong in this config ?

Here is how send/receive quotas impact things:
Quota Handling for Outside Caller Messages
By default, if an outside caller attempts to send a message to a user whose send/receive quota has been exceeded, Cisco Unity Connection allows the caller to record a message for the recipient. This can be changed by checking the Full Mailbox Check for Outside Caller Messages check box on the System Settings > Advanced > Conversation page.
If the recipient mailbox has not yet exceeded the send/receive quota at the time an outside caller records a message, but the quota is exceeded in the act of delivering the message, Connection delivers the message regardless of the quota or the setting of the Full Mailbox Check for Outside Caller Messages check box.
    Quota Handling for User-to-User Messages
If a user whose voice mailbox has exceeded the send quota signs in to Connection and attempts to send a message to another user, Connection indicates that the send quota has been exceeded, and does not allow the sender to record the message. If the user calls another user and is forwarded to a voice mailbox, the user is able to leave a message, but the message is sent as an outside caller message.
If a user attempts to send a message to another user whose mailbox has exceeded the send/receive quota, or if the quota is exceeded in the act of delivering the message, Connection sends a nondelivery receipt to the message sender.
Connection delivers read receipts and nondelivery receipts to users regardless of whether their quotas have been exceeded.
    HTH,
    Chris

  • Upgrade path from Unity / Exchange to Unity Connection 7.1

Has anyone found (perhaps doesn't exist) an upgrade path from Unity / Exchange 4.1 to Unity Connection 7.1?

It will likely require a new server, but I just performed this migration.  You also have to be on Unity 4.0(5) or higher in order to perform the migration.  You use the COBRAS Export tool for Unity to grab the majority of system data and the COBRAS Import tool for Connection to migrate data over.  Read up on COBRAS here:
    http://www.ciscounitytools.com/Applications/General/COBRAS/COBRAS.html
If you have other questions, let me know.

  • CWMS 1.5 install disk requirements

I am preparing for a HA CWMS 1.5 install without IRP.  The install will also have a cold failover in a different data center.  I am trying to understand the disk requirements for each host.  The install document says 1TB disk is required.
If I have an install with 3 servers is that 3 x 1TB?
Is there separate storage via NFS for recordings?

    Hi David,
1TB is a requirement for all internal machines, while 300GB is a requirement for IRP servers.
1TB is needed regardless of NFS storage.
NFS storage capacity you will define based on your system's size and usage (

Right - after much testing - found out the solution to this problem.
The Cisco OVA Templates dont work for CUC for certain install disks (well for at least 7 that I tried !)
Tested Disks  (with VSXI version 4.1)
    CUCM 8.5 - 80-9842-02
    CUCM 8.5 - 80-9927-02
    CUCM 8.5 - 80-9929-01
    CUCM 8.5 - 80-9842-02
    CUCM 8.6.1a - 80-9986-02
    CUCM 8.6.1a - 80-9988-02
    CUCM 8.6.1a - 80-9989-02
You need to load the OVA template and make the following changes -
Memory     :     6gb (can be set to 8gb if required)
CPU          :     2 (can be set to 3 if required)
    Video          :     16mb (hard set)
    VMCI          :     Unrestricted (enable checked)
    SCSI          :     LSI Logic Parallel
    HD          :     200gb - independent persistent
Network      :     needs to be 'connect at power on'
FD              :     Client Device 'Connected' but I dont think this setting matters.
Now Cisco Unity Connection appears at as part of the installable product suite.
I think the OVA templates are extremely poor - clearly untested.
eg - its names your VM - ALIGNED_500User-UnityConnection1CPU160GB.ova etc
Anyway - hope this information help other people from wasting a lot of time.

The first method involves - upgrading the existing system and restoring a backup of this to a VM
This fails with a hardware compatablity check.
The second method involves - backup existing systen - build VM at same level (using recommending OVA) - restore data onto VM - upgrade VM

  • Cisco Unity connection hardware requirement

I am working on hardware requirements for Cisco Unity connection. I am looking into the OVA template and it says for the hard disk you need is  2x500GB for 20000 users
My question is why we need 2 500GB. Can we do 1TB??
    Thanks in advance
    Uday

If you mean you want to use 1 HDD 1 TB VS 2 HDDs 500 GB the answer is no, the installer will look for 2 HDDs for the product to be installed if you choose the 10K/20K users VMs.

  • Unity Connection 8.X reports

    Hello,
Does anyone know how I can run a report in UCCXN 8.X that will show how many messages are in a user's mailbox or how much disk space a user's mailbox is taking up?   I've looked through all of the available reports and can't find anything that will give me this info.   I'm running into a problem where my mailbox quotas are too low for some heavy VM users.   I need to be able to find out which users are nearing the quota before they actually hit the quota.
    Any help would be appreciated.
