Universal Access White on Black

Is there a way to use this feature without all pictures looking like negatives? Need the white on black print, but would also like to see the pictures looking normal.

No, sorry, there isn't.
The White on Black switch works only on the whole display.
If you really don't want to see most colours inverted, try VisioVoice, which enables you to display selected text in a floating window. The text sizes, fonts and colours in this window can be set to suit your vision best, e.g. white text on black or yellow text on midnight blue, while leaving the rest of the screen unchanged.

  • White on Black option and photos

I like the look of White on Black.
    Settings/General/Accessibility/White On Black
But the photos I've viewed so far when the phone is in this mode have the look of negatives. Is it supposed to be this way, or is there another setting I'm missing? I can't see why they would give you the WOB option if you are unable to view photos normally. You have to turn off to enjoy a pic.

You notice how it's on the Accessibility settings?
It's for making the phone easier for people to use. I personally use it to create a high contrast when I'm in the sun, and reading text messages. It's not meant for viewing pictures... :-|

  • White on Black Settings causes all pictures to look like negatives

    Hi,
I was changing some settings on my iphone. When I changed the accessibility settings "white on black" --> On, the photos in my album started looking like negatives.. so did all the default wall papers.
When I switch back to the "white on black "-->Off , everything looks back normal.
*Settings -->General -->Accessibility "white on black" --> On*
Has anyone noticed this before?Any help appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kirti

The white on black setting can be toggled on and off to suit the situation, It should be used to alleviate strain on the eyes when reading lots of text, not to view pictures however. rather than only doing it for text it just makes everything negative. In Settings> general> accessibility you can change the function of the 'triple-click home' to white on black. that way you can change to white on black to view text by triple clicking the home button and then change back when viewing pictures. simple.
    hope that helped

Did you have this problem? What should I do?

Sorry, its not an external display. I changed out THE display in my imac. When I hooked up my wife's display it was photo negative and the imac was color. I changed the Universal Settings and the external display went to color and the imac went to photo negative.

  • Accessibility feature not working - using white on black contrasting colors

There is an accessibility feature that allows a pdf file to be viewed in other than the default black on white background. The choices are white or yellow or green text on a black background. This last worked for me with reader v7 ... neither version 8 or the newest version 9.3.0 works correctly ... when white on black is selected the file is still displayed in the default black on white format. Does anyone know if there is an Adobe product manager who would be able to confirm this problem ... or perhaps  have a workaround for it?
    thanks ... Don

    Loreall,
The replace colors feature in Reader only changes the color of the primary page background, so if the author added a background to the document (even if the added background is white) then this might cause the issue you describe.  One thing that may help is if you enable reflow mode, as this forces extra backgrounds to disappear.  You can try this by locating the option in the view menu or by hitting Ctrl+4.

  • Swaping between white-on-black and black-on-white

I really like using the white-on-black setting in Universal Access, however if I want to watch a video or see a picture normally I have to switch back to black-on-white. Is there a way where I could quickly switch back and forth between the two settings without having to reopen system preferences and select which setting I want? I've seen that you can create scripts or use terminal to switch system preference settings, but I don't have very much experience with either of these.
It would be great if someone could hep me out with this. Thanks.

I have a situation where the PowerBook display and the 17" external Studio Display are inversely correlated.
(eg. one is black on white and the other is white on black).   Using the Universal Access keyboard shortcut of control/option/command/8 just toggles them back n forth switching the settings between displays.
How do I change just ONE of the displays so that they both have the same settings???
I've tried all permeations of UA settings, disconnect external display, detect displays with display disconnected, re-boot again, and no avail.

  • Permanently disable White On Black

We here at a school district kids are abusing this White on Black feature. How can I get rid of this? If I have to hack the Universal Access Preferences pane, I will.
    Thanks

You can disable the shortcut through the Keyboard and Mouse pane, by unchecking the box under Keyboard Shortcuts, but it's still possible to change it via Universal Access.
Perhaps somebody with better knowledge of Terminal than mine might be able to suggest some cunning Unix wheeze!
But what harm is it doing? The screens will probably last longer as they needn't output so much light!
    Sorry,

  • White on black display

I saw the "white on black" display option in the Universal Access menu under system preferences and I really just liked the way it looked. Is it possible to turn this function on for menus only. Pictures and videos don't look so good with it.

Nope, not that I'm aware of anyway.

  • Disable shortcut keys for Universal Access

At our school we have a bit of an issue with students using keyboard shortcuts to set the Universal Access options (usually to Black on White, but also Zoom and VoiceOver), which freaks out the next student using the computer. I'd like to disable the shortcut keys for those settings. Are there ARD Unix commands that would do it?

    Hello Francois,
Thank you for your fast reply!
I tried your recommendation, but got the following result:
When I have a label of "& OK" with the blank symbol as ALT-255, the Button in the Alert Box still has the focus. It seems as if there now is a blank in front of the OK (which is underlined). This does not really solve my issue, because the Button still has the focus and that should not be. The best solution for the user would be if he only could accept the message with a mouse klick.
    Is there an other suggestion?
    Thank you so much!

  • Why is my iTunes screen white on black?

With the latest iTunes upgrade, the iTunes screen is viesing as white on black in most - but not all screens.
I've tried accessibility conrols but they weren't the problem. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app and the smae thing is happening. Here's a screen shot so you can see what I mean.
Any suggestions beofre I make a Genius Bar appointment?
    Thanks!

I had the same problem and this resolved it for me. Apparently the black on white mode is called a "high contrast" mode or something like that. I'm not sure how it can accidentally be enabled but apparently it's not unheard of. All I did to fix it was type...
defaults write com.apple.iTunes high-contrast-mode-enable -bool FALSE
...into the terminal, close and restart iTunes...problem resolved!
    Hope this fixes the problem!

  • White To Black Conversion

I have this image that I'm trying to make look black.  Most of the techniques that are around for color changing are from one color to another.  Black to White and vice versa seem to be avoided.
I have access to the object and can obtain higher quality images if it'll help, but none of the techniques that I've attempted look realistic.
Anyone have a technique that would make this look realistically black?
    Any advice is welcome!

Changing white to  black is generally quite difficult, for a variety of reasons.  On top of that you do have a poor image.  One thing you can try is to change your image to black and white (grayscale). Then put a white layer above it and set its blend mode to difference. After that you can do some dodgng & burning (or other editing) to fix it up. Here is an example of what is possible with the basic approach (no dodging or burning was done).

  • Help!  Universal Access Screen -how do I get my normal view back?

I was browsing through System Preferences trying to learn stuff on my Mac, and I clicked on "Universal Access" icon to see what it was about. Now my screen view is all messed up and I have no idea how to get back my normal setting. Also, how is it that I just click on it and it changes with no warning? Obviously I have no clue about any of this, which is why I'm trying to learn but I'm scared to try anything for fear of screwing it up. Any help would be so much appreciated. Thanks, Ellen

Now I've gone and really screwed it up. The entire screen is black and I can't see the Keyboard shortcuts so I just shut it down and went into my 2nd user account so I could see the screen and follow up on this forum. I went to the article to check out the keyboard shortcuts and I think I hit Control F1 - had no idea which one to try as I have no idea what any of them mean (yeah, stupid, I know) and then I started pressing all kinds of keys, option command, shift, control, F1 anything I could think of to get any kind of response and nothing, black screen. And I guess the Zoom key is confusing causes I don't understand how "Zoom" can control colors? What a mess I've created and I have no clue as to the shortcut keys ... I never use them. I feel like such an idiot!!!!

  • Universal Access only showing at log-in screen

For some reason Universal Access is only showing at log in on my school iMac. I have logged into the admin account and checked universal access, but it is turned off. It is giving me the little black box that tells me where my cursor is and what it does. For example at the log-in "Name" field it is surrounded in a black border and the black box says "You are currently on a text field. To enter text in this field, type."
    Any help would be great.
