Universal Audio UAD Card & Macbook Pro

can I use a UAD card with 17“ Macbook Pro?
I believe I read somewhere that it is only compatible with desktops?

Nope. Being as this card is one that needs an actual PCI or PCIe slot, and laptops don't have that, you'll find it hard to fit it in there.
They do make a version for their product which DOES work with laptops, the Expander. this will work nicely with your laptop.
I believe I read somewhere that it is only compatible with desktops?
Please check their website, and get the skinny on their Expander product.

  • I recently purchased an Onkyo stereo receiver with a wireless USB adapter, UWF-1, and want to stream audio from my MacBook Pro through my stereo system. The receiver tells me it is connected to my wireless LAN, but I cannot get music to play?

New to the community here, thanks for your patience.  I recently purchased an Onkyo TX-8050 Network Stereo Receiver with the UWF-1 USB adapter with the intent to stream audio from my MacBook Pro to the stereo. I have gone through the setup instructions for the adapter and the receiver gives me a message saying that it is connected to the password protected network, but that is as far as I can get.
I have gone into iTunes and clicked on the "Open Stream" option, but I just get a pop up box labeled "URL" that is empty. I have Home Sharing turned on and File Sharing turned on, but I am not seeing the receiver in my Finder window or as a iTunes device.
I would appreciate any and all advice and assistance.
    Thanks so much.

So I have been searching the iStore for Airplay and I find lots of information about what it is, but nothing about how much it costs, how/where to buy it, etc.?
Fortunately, AirPlay does not cost anything as it is a streaming protocol used by Apple. Currently, the AirPort Express and Apple TV are AirPlay-ready. A number of other companies, like JBL, iHome, Denon and Klipsch are also rumored to be working on AirPlay versions of their products.
Your other option would be to get an AirPort Express and connect it to your Onkyo analog or optical digital audio input and stream from iTunes that way. I currently do this with my 10+ year old Harmon Kardon HT receiver.

I am wanting in input audio to a MacBook Pro  running 10.9.4.  Since there is only the internal microphone as an input choice, how do I accomplish this?

Not something I've ever done, but I found a 9-year-old article from MacWorld -> http://www.macworld.com/article/1041790/tapetocd.html - that explains it a bit. Apparently the only software that you need is GarageBand and a hardware interface. Just Google "copy audio cassette to mac" and you'll get tons of hits.

  • Audio into my macbook pro with retina display?

Does any one know of any devices I can use to get audio into my macbook pro with retina display? PLEASE Help!!!!

Will not work.  To my knowledge, dual converting like that isn't supported.  The Mac must detect the connected video output device and that sort of info cannot be done across an analog component uni-directional connection.

  • The audio on my macbook pro cuts out after a few minutes.

The audio on my macbook pro cuts out after a few minutes. It sounds like all the low end is removed. I still hear audio but it is MUCH lower and sounds filtered. I can barely hear it maxed out. Nothing attached (no external drives, no speakers, etc) and it's only a few days old.

Apple store pronto.  If need be (if less than 14 days from purchase) exchange for a new one!
    Ciao.

  • Stream Safari/DVD audio from my Macbook Pro to my Airport Express.

Is there a good way to stream all audio from my Macbook Pro to my Airport Express? Not just simply the iTunes audio.

This does work in general but not for my particular need.  I have a Mac G5 using ProTools and a MBox digitizing vinyl (USB connection).  I am on a MBP getting work done elsewhere in the house, but want to listen to the music and especially to tell when album side is done.  To get music to the MBP,  I have plugged the G5's line inputs to the MBox line outputs, then used messenger to create a chat with the MBP.  Too bad I could not get the G5's input to be the MBox, but ProTools wants sole control.  Works OK, but the messenger output on the MBP will NOT go to the Apple Express, just the speakers or headphone out jack.

  • Universal Audio Nevana 32 or other universal audio mac cards with mac pro

Hello, I am thinking on purchasing an Universal Audio Card and using it with a mac pro and logic studio.
Does anyone know if they have used or know about using a Universal Audio card (UAD-2 Nevana 32), or any other universal audio card?
Can you use this card with a mac pro and logic studio and does it have any latency issues? And can you use the Universal's mixor and logic's mixor at the same time, Or do you just use the plug ins on the UAD when using logic. Also it looks like it comes with one input on the card, so how do you plug in multiple guitars and bass and piano, or do you just run one input in and buy a input device for it (what would I need to buy for that?), Thanks so much.

Yes you can. And yes, all DSP cards have latency, it's how they work. The UAD2 is better than the UAD1 in this regard, but in general, DSP cards are not used for tracking, they are used for mixing.
And can you use the Universal's mixor and logic's mixor at the same time,
I don't know what a "mixor" is. If you mean mixer, then you use Logic. The UAD card has no such thing as a mixer.
Or do you just use the plug ins on the UAD when using logic.
You use whichever plugins you want - Logic's own plugins, third-party native plugins, or plugins running on the UAD card in any combination.
Also it looks like it comes with one input on the card, so how do you plug in multiple guitars and bass and piano, or do you just run one input in and buy a input device for it (what would I need to buy for that?),
Er... perhaps you need to reassess what a UAD card is. It's not a sound card. Think of it like a specialised computer that runs special programs. When you load a UAD plugin, instead of the computer's CPU processing the audio, it's the computer on the UAD card that processes the audio - in ohter words, the plugin code runs on the card, but to all other respects UAD plugins behave just like any other plugin.
All audio I/O and routing is handled by Logic.

    Hi Joseph.
I'm a first time Mac purchaser, after years of making music on PCs professionally with everyone people telling me that it cannot be done. I've been skeptical about moving to the Mac platform for this reason. I've even had some Mac die-hards laugh when I said that I've been producing professional music projects on PCs for years. Oddly, when I listened to their own productions, they sounded like C**P - which was a reflection on them and not their computers. So I've been fairly tongue-in-cheek about the whole idea of switching to the Mac platform. But I have many colleagues running Mac platform, and my switching ensures total compatibility on some large projects that I'm working on this year.
I actually had several other PC manufacturer's quotes printed out and was ready to buy. The Mac representative called me in follow up to my online price inquiry. I merely priced a unit and saved it in an online shopping cart in the online Apple Store. They called to follow up, which very much impressed me, and frankly, that sold the unit. And spend away I did - nearly $4,000. 2.16, 2 gigs ram, APP, software, keyboard, mouse, printer -- many extras of all sorts.
The whole customer service experience and out of box experience was flawless, and had me preaching Mac brand within hours - I couldn't be happier. Then came the online forums, and the horror stories of other MacBook owners and what they're dealing with...
I found that the MacBooks have stereotypical problems that are NOT being handled properly by Apple. Some new build problems ARE being addressed well - namely the inverter problems with the displays. But the CPU whine is another story entirely, as is the heat being generated by some units. It seems that some units are running MUCH hotter than others, and actually burning the skin of users. Users are actually getting out laser heat guns and running their own tests on the units out of frustration from Apple not responding, and posting the results here. Some units appear to be running as much as 20 deg. C higher than others under load. Remember, that's NOT Farenheit, but CENTIGRADE. Users are now tearing down their own machines and attempting corrections to fix some of the irratic heat problems on their own - even out of risk of voiding their warranties.
Users with these problems are being treated very poorly at the Apple Stores. They're told by Geniuses and managers that the obvious problems are 'within spec' and therefore a non-issue. Yet anyone that buys the book to do, say, audio recording, is quickly finding that the unit cannot be even used in the same room as a condensor microphone without employing a work-around for the CPU whine, because it's too loud. It's also too loud for a basic meeting room setting as well, users are posting.
These are VERY expensive units. They're not cheap by any means. And this sort of treatment, or ducking of the issues is totally unacceptable.
The way that Apple is avoiding direct response to these known issues is a VERY poor marketing strategy, and causing people to wonder if they're slipping in their historical customer-service. Seemingly Apple is very quietly dealing with users and avoiding any sort of recall or public statement.
My personal 'customer service' experience with Apple has been wonderful, and a breath of fresh air compared to some past experiences. My unit is quiet and though it runs VERY hot, mine's not out-of control as some others are expriencing. But watching others go through so many hassles - mostly consumer-advocacy related - expecially after they've spent a boat-load of a lot of money on a top-of-the-line notebook is disheartening, and frankly it's scaring me away from the brand very quickly. From a marketing standpoint, Apple needs to publically address these issues, and quick.
They're slipping on this one. The MacBook Pros have some issues - at least the 15" ones do, and they're avoiding talking about it. Many users are waiting to see if the new 17" units that are shipping this week are experiencing any similar problems. I'm one of those people.
One last marketing flaw that Apple has made is not announcing the 17" ahead of time to those purchasing the 15". I bought mine, and less than 14 business days later, the 17" comes out with more options, FireWire 800 that I desperately needed, and it ships for $50-$100 LESS than mine. Not a great way to make new owners of 15" models happy about their purchase.
Good luck on your thesis. Working on one myself.

  • How about support for Waves plugins or Universal Audio UAD plugins?

I wonder if Final Cut Pro X will become more stable in working with 3rd party audio plugins, like Waves or UAD? I use Waves, and the responsiveness of the system is very heavily affected. Anyone has same experiences or even a solution for this kind of behaviour?

I have a February 8 Core Machine and two UAD PCIe cards and I am have NO issues - I dont even have core overloads- today I ran a logic benchmark test on the cores and could run 50 instances on the test.
    http://www.evan.se/logicprobenchmark/
Tom at UAD said that the issues were CPU spikes when using the UAD cards - not here!
You are not alone Andrew!. I have sent them my system profile and told them that i would be happy to do any tests.
    cheers

  • Update: audio problems connecting macbook pro to insignia TV: resolved

There have been posts from users who have expressed frustration that they cannot get audio when they attempt to connect their macbook pro to an Insignia TV.
    http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=10830387
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2192206
Insignia customer service also attempts to state that the pre-April 2010 macbook pros cannot get audio output to the TV, because the units are designed to get the audio on the same HDMI and no alternative audio input is available on the TV.
    http://community.insigniaproducts.com/t5/Televisions/Connecting-MacBook-Pro-to-T V/td-p/5564
For the Insignia models (from 2010 onwards and possible some from 2009 as well), there is a simple workaround that does not seem to be published elsewhere on the internet (as far as I can see):
Use the HDMI port 1 only (audio does not work with port 2, port 3 or port 4) to connect your macbook and you will receive 1080p video signal.
Use a mini stereo audio cable (example link below) and connect your macbook audio output to a designated green color coded audio port on the TV located right next to the VGA. You will receive full stereo audio.
Example link for mini stereo audio cable:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00116VJIO

I recently acquired a new Insignia TV and had sound trouble.  I went to Best Buy to inquire about the cable in the link above and the sales manager had doubts.  He recommended a RCA cable with a male connection at both ends.  The RCA jack is on the bottom edge of the TV display next to the VGA connection.  The sound worked perfectly using the RCA cable from the headphone jack on the Mac.  I connected the video with a HDMI adapter from the monitor mirroring port.

  • How to put to lines in one audio in? (macbook pro 13")

    Hello.
I've seen surprisingly that my new macbook pro 13" has only Audio in/out. I want to put Mikrophones/Instruments and Headphones on it at the same Time. Thats the Reason i bought it. How can i use Audio in and Audio out at the same time without spending 100 Euros for USB Miniaudiointerface and USB Hub?
PS: Please APPLE, a Macbook PRO without Audio in is like Laptop without Screen! What is going on here???

You bought the bottom of the MBP line, and you expect the equivalent of a dedicated multitrack audio interface to be built in? Did you ever look at the machine's specifications before buying it, or did you order it completely blind?
You need to buy an audio interface if you want to be a Pro.

  • Any cheaper solution for audio on 2007 MacBook Pro to TV?

I see this adapter may finally give me the ability to merge my audio with my DVI and connect to my HDMI based TV:
    http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=3570
Is there anything cheaper that can do that. I know only the late 2009 iMacs and 2010 Macs can connect display ports to HDMI and have audio straight to TV.
I was hoping there might be a way to do this with my DVI on my 2007 Santa Rosa MacBook Pro.
    I have a Sony 42" Bravia XBR9.

Have you checked Radio Shack? The staff are pretty knowledgeable about what you need to connect MBPs to TVs. Their cables are way less than $300.

  • How do I hear audio from my Macbook Pro 2009 to my LED TV?

I recently received an adapter for my Macbook Pro 2009, Mini DisplayPort (Mini DP) to HDMI Female Adapter + HDMI Cable for my birthday.  I knew before receiving this adapter I needed something to transmit audio to my TV.  However, th 1/8' (3.5mm) to RCA stereo audio cable I purchased does not work. Does anyone have a suggestion on which cable I need to purchase next to make the sound component work when connecting my laptop to my Toshiba LED TV?

The Mac's audio output doubles as a optical Toslink stereo mini jack, just use a adapter to regular Toslink and plug the optical cable to your surround sound system. Fiddle with the sound settings to enable optical output.
Mac's pass surround sound through, they don't do any processing.
