Universal crossgrade update from FCP HD to FCP Studio on Mac Book Pro

Hi all,
Just ordered my universal upgrade for my MBP from Apple to go from FCP-HD to FCP Studio. My MBP has FCPHD installed on it. I installed it without being aware that it was not compatable with the intel chip.
Just wondering if there are any problems associated with simpy installing the complete crossgrade FCP Studio without first uninstalling FCPHD.
Or is it suggested to completely uninstall FCPHD before installing the new universal version of FCP studio.
The answer may ship with the software but I was wondering if I should start going through the uninstall process as I hear it is a bit involved.

When I attempt to install the 5.1 cross-grade on a newly formatted hard drive, that is also set as the boot drive with the latest version of OSX on my dual G5, the 5.1 install goes through the entire process up until I get to the part where it begins actually installing the actual software applications. Then it fails--quits- completely quits installing. And yes, both of my optical disk drives are working. I have another disk drive that contains the last version of Final Cut Studio and when I first tried to install the cross-grade on that drive it wont even get past the screen that says that the software is checking to see if it can be installed on the drive. I was told by someone at Apple Pro Applications support that if 5.1 would not install on a new formatted hard drive that contained nothing but the latest version of OSX that I had bad install disks. It's a matter of getting them replaced. I KEEP GETTING THE RUN AROUND!!! It's like no one at Apple cares. I wait over two hours to get help, but I really am not getting help. When I call Panasonic for help with my AJ-HD27H VariCam Camcorders, or my a Aj-HD1200 decks, they bend over backwards to help me. Or when I have a problem with a Canopus Editing System help is easy and reliable.
Is there anyone who knows from whom I can go for an easy replacement of these instal disks?????

I will never know if the problem was one of transfer or format compatibility. The movie would not copy from one external hard diask to another, both attached to my MAC. But when the movie (which was in mpg by the way) was downloaded directly (without any other intermediary) into my external disk from the computer (a PC) where the movie was originated, the file did copy. And when I attached that external hard disk to my MAC, i could see it using the MPEC streamclip app.

What is your program? You specifically ask about Premiere Elements but your ID = photo shop elements 12.
It is confusing why Reynolds Films 2014 is replying to your thread, talking about Photoshop Elements.
Assuming some version of Premiere Elements currently on some Windows operating system.
What version of Premiere Elements do you have and on what computer operating system does it exist?
How did you install your version of Premiere Elements on Windows - installation files from an online purchase or
from installation disc from purchase of the product in box packaging?
What installation files or installation disc do you have?
You cannot install Premiere Elements Windows installation files on a Mac computer. If you want Premiere Elements
for your Mac computer, you will need to buy a version of Premiere Elements Mac that is supported by your Mac computer.
If you purchased Premiere Elements Windows in box packaging, it probably came with 2 installation discs, one for
Windows and one for Mac. If that is the case, use the Mac installation disc to try to install the program on your
Mac computer.
But, we need the details from you in order to sort out what is and what needs to be done.

Four transfers. After the initial attempt with Migration Assistant failed (after hours and hours of wifi transfer) I did "mini-transfers" of more manageable, smaller bits of files -- my music in one, photos in another, etc. Since posting my question in this forum, i contacted Apple support, chatted with Angela, and she suggested getting an ethernet-USB adapter for my mac, connecting my external drive with ethernet and transferring files manually -- that is, NOT using the Migration Assistant at all. What are you trying to transfer? What does the manual say for the Samsung to get whatever data it is that you want to transfer from one device to the other? This may be something you want to ask in a Samsung forum, since you are trying to manipulate a Samsung phone.

It definitely works. I have used MA at least 100 times in the past. I’m not sure what’s happening here. What is the exact error message? Is the old Mac updated to 10.5.8 with all updates installed? Is your son using FWTDM successfully so that the new Mac recognizes the old one? Is there enough free space on the target Mac?

Take a look at Migration Assistant, in the /Applications/Utilities folder. You can use a Time Machine backup to restore your data files.

I have no problems with my GMail IMAP account - but then I'm using Outlook, not Mail.

THOSE files contain your Library information, and the need to be moved to the same folder on the new Mac.

.. and by the way, the jump from FCP 6.0.3 to FCP 7.0 (or higher) isn't an "update" It's a full version "upgrade" that has to be done using the install discs (or disc images).

Running FCP 4.5 on Mac Book Pro?

I have FCP 4.5 (Studio-Academic) running on a PBG4. I just bought a Mac Book Pro and want to install FCP. Will it run? Or can I get an upgrade to FCP 6? I need to be able to ingest from a Sony SxS Card into FCP. Thanks.

Gotta upgrade for two reasons.
1) FCP 4.5 was designed for PowerPC Macs...it won't run on the Intel computers. The first version that did was FCP 5.1
2) Footage shot with a Sony EX1 on SxS cards requires FCP 6. That camera and codec came out many years after FCP 4.5 was released. FCP will not work with that format.
