Universal Dock plus ipod Touch

Hey guys, I was thinking of buying the Universal Dock for my iPod Touch, but do I need to buy the Apple branded AV cables too, if I want to plug it into a tv? I know the older AV cables don't work on the Touch, but is it different using the dock? I was hoping to download the manual for the dock, incase it mentions anything about it, but can't find it.
Any help would be great!

For doing TV-Out with newer iPods you really only have TWO choices with One optional purchase:
- Choice 1: Apple AV Composite Cables (R,W,Y)
- Choice 2: Apple AV Component Cables (R,W,R,B,G)
Option: Universal Dock so you can use the remote control to pause, fast-forward, rewind, skip forward and back, and change volume.
Also, understand that you can't play games, scroll through menus, view album artwork on the screen, etc. The AV Cables (even in combination with the Universal Dock & remote) just let you play music, view photos, and view video through the TV.
So, it really comes down to how much you want to spend (and how lazy you are - in the case of the Dock w/remote). Each one is around $50 alone.
Unless your TV doesn't have Component inputs, I'd buy the Component AV cables. And if you can afford it, the dock is handy too.
Personally, I have the Component Cables & a Universal Dock. And, yes, I am that lazy.

  • When I dock my ipod touch into my bose speakers, the 365Live radio APP doesn't work. Does anybody know why?

When I dock my ipod touch into my Bose speakers, the 365LiveRadio APP doesn't work. It buffers and doesn't connect.
    Why ?

Audio through a dock connection is at line level, also called line out.  Line level volume is not adjustable.  You need to change the volume using the controls on the iHome device, or its remote.

  • Docking my iPod Touch

I docked my iPod Touch and the screen where they ask you to pay $20 for the software upgrade comes up and I say remind me later. It loads into another screen talking about the new apps and I press ok and leads me to the iTunes store and when I press on the iPod Touch device window, it still has the app page. Is Apple forcing me to buy the apps or can I uninstall iTunes and the problem will be fixed or is there a way to get rid of it?

Apple's not trying to force you to buy anything. I've heard this is an issue they've acknowledged and are working to fix as we speak. Just wait a day or two.

  • Charging and Speaker Docks - upgrading iPod Touch model

    Hi
    I currently own a 16gb 1st Gen iPod Touch and am looking to upgrade to a 32gb 3rd Gen (can't afford a 4th Gen )
I wonder whether you can advise if the 3rd Gen will work with my Belkin mains charger and my Sony Dock. Models are below

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/196494?utmsource=google&utmmedium=products
The dock says it is a 30 pin plug and 'made for iPod'. The charger outputs via a USB socket. Thanks, Carl

    Excellent thanks for the help

  • Does FM tuner work with apple universal dock, with ipod nano 6g

Does anyone know if the FM tuner in the ipod nano 6G works with the universal dock to give audio output?

I have the Classic 80gb also...same probem. I retuned the Apple Universal Dock and purchased one that was half the price. Pluged it in and it works perfectly! So my advice would be to save some money and get products that work.

  • Dirty dock = dead ipod touch?

I just sent my iPod touch (2nd gen) in for repair because it froze on the Apple logo after powerup. Apple said the iPod was not eligible for warranty work because it was mistreated. When I called Apple to find out how it was mistreated, I was told the dock area on the iPod had hairs and "gunk" in it and that it could have caused the power circuit to die. Really? A dirty dock on the iPod can kill it? I never thought iPod would be that sensitive to dirt; now I think maybe they are! So keep your iPods squeaky clean. Personally I'll find another PMP that's better at fighting "gunk".

It should power up as soon as it's plugged in.
not necessarily, if completely drained, you need to leave it a while before it will do that. saying that, an hour is too long.
have you tried unplugging and then holding the home button while you plug it back in?

  • How to Set Universal time in iPod Touch?

the ipod touch's date and time has been changed by itself,
so i want to change the time in to universal time
Is there a way that i have to set by my self but doing other things?
like example, my window computer's clock is universal time
can i synchronize that in to my iPod?
    What Should I do????
    PLZ Help ME!!

You can set the time zone on your iPod Touch to UTC. Open Settings and proceed from there. See the screen shot...

AFAIK there is no way to natively sync your iPod Touch time with your computers clock. Note the iPod Touch built-in clock is pretty good, in my experience, and exhibits little drift.

  • Can't play music from Universal Dock when iPod classic plugged in

According to the iPod classic manual, one can play music or video while the iPod is connected to the computer or AC power to be charged up. However, this is not working for me. Instead, it says "Connected", and won't actually let me play music unless I unplug the USB cable. I have set iTunes to NOT start automatically, otherwise it will just sync over and over again, and still never play music. I know the iPod and dock are working correctly because if I unplug the USB cable from my computer, it plays music through the dock as expected. Suggestions? Thanks.

Alas, not so easy. No matter what way I use to eject it from iTunes, once it stops with the "Ok to disconnect" bit, if it is still in the cradle (which it needs to be for playing), it toggles back to Connected, and the following dialog box from iTunes pops up, saying:
"The iPod <name of iPod> cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application."
The only application using it is iTunes. I've tried exiting iTunes quickly, no joy. [Aside to discussion forum moderators: There doesn't seem to be a way to paste in a bitmap to show the dialog. Oh well.]
I just found a work-around, basically telling Windows at the OS level to remove the iPod qua USB device (usual way, right-click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon, choose the drive letter associated with the iPod), and that seems to do it. The battery icon is in the AC power state, so it's still on external power even though the OS doesn't see it. So maybe that's good enough. Although that's still something that iTunes ought to be doing, I would think.

  • I updated to ios6 and now imessege does not work, and my dock says "ipod touch is not supported by this accessory, what happened??

i was using imessege all the time, working perfectly, and my dock is what u played music on and charged my ipod on every night, then after i updated it, none of it works anymore???
this also happened to a buddy of mine, exact same problems
    please help

    iMessage - Sorry, I don't know.
Dock - The same thing is "sorta" happening with a belkin charger that I have. It'll say that charging is not supported wij this accessory, and I can't use the Belkin cord any longer. I have to use my apple one. I think that means that the dock software is now "outdated" and can't charge your iPod anymore.

  • Video out on iPod touch 2nd Gen - with dock?

    Hi,
So apparently you can watch videos on your tv if you buy the universal dock for iPod touch 2nd Gen?
How does it work and do you get RCA cables with the dock or do you need to purchase them separately?
Does the dock come with the USB cable or is that a separate purchase as well?
    Sami

    Hi,
    You only need the cable(s)-
    [Apple Composite AV Cable|http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB129LL/B?fnode=MTY1NDA0OQ&mco=MjE0NTAz OA]
    OR
    [Apple Component AV Cable|http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB128LL/B?fnode=MTY1NDA0OQ&mco=MjU4Njcw Mw]
You can then put one of these inbetween in you wish but it is not required.
    [Apple Universal Dock|http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB125G/B?fnode=MTY1NDA0OQ&mco=MjU4NzcxOA ]
Comes with a remote but of limited functionality with Touch.

  • Universal dock remote control play/pause button doesn't work

    Hi all,
Ok since updating to Ipod touch software v2.2 I have been unable to use the play/pause button on my Apple universal dock remote, whilst my iPod touch is in the dock.
The volume controls and track next and previous buttons commands on the remote control work just fine.
I have tried unpairing and then pairing the remote with the universal dock but same issue. I thought that maybe the play/pause key was possibly broken. However I tested the remote on my iMac and play/pause button works fine in front row.
Any ideas/suggestions would be much appreciated.

Strange thing is mine started working again last night and is still working. Seems the problem went away as it originally appeared. I hope it doesn't stop working.
I will mark this thread as unanswered until we can figure why the remote, universal dock and iPod touch are behaving this way.

  • IPod Touch 2G + iPod Photo docking station

I have an iPod Photo docking station connected to my iMac via USB. Are there any issues with using ipod photo dock with ipod touch 2g? I'm only interested in recharging and syncing and not using the s-video or line out ports.

Its fine. I used it for a bid too. Its just a dock, doesn't matter which iPod you have on it.

  • How to Stop iPhoto launch when iPod Touch is docked?

Each and every time I dock the iPod Touch (2nd Gen), iPhoto opens and asks if I want to import new photos. Every time!
But I already imported them and I want to keep them (screenshots made with iPod Touch image capture). So why does it keep asking?
How can I stop the automatic launch of iPhoto to ask this same question?
There are no settings in iTunes for the connected iPod Touch. There are no settings in iPhoto.
And I have reviewed past messages suggesting there is a setting in the Mac OSX app called "Image Capture" - "Down load to: Picture, Movies and Music folder" Automatic Task: set to None - but that does not work either.
What else can I do? It is VERY annoying!
    Thanks & Aloha, AW

For some reason it does not work that way. You could always try turning off the ability to open iPhoto when a camera-like device is attached, using Grab.
Mind you, if they are imported into iPhoto and you sync images with the iPod touch, then you might as well delete from that folder otherwise they are duplicated on the touch.

What I can do to fix it?
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
If not under warranty Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

A third-party place like the following will replace the jack for less. Google for more.

  • Universal Dock Question

last night i made the most expensive mouse click of my life by purchasing a 15 inch MBP and a 30 gig iPod video. today at target i picked up a universal dock for iPods in efforts to keep the player safe and secure.
heres my question...i know the macbook pro comes with a remote and i was wondering if that is the same remote used with the dock?
if so, is the remote is interchangable, how can you order the dock to take commands from the remote. i don't really care about the added functionality of a remote, i just want a safe home for my investment, but if you can interchange the remote between devices, more icing on the deliciously, albeit expensive cake.
Thank you so much for your time,
    Michael

    Hi Lyssa,
Right, the iPod doesn't respond to the Menu button. You cannot navigate the menus in any way with the Universal Dock and Apple Remote.
There are some 3rd party docks available that allow you to navigate through the iPod's menus though, such as...

    HomeDock Deluxe
