Universal Drive Adapter

I have a HD from my old macbook pro and want to transfer the info to my new macbook pro. I was told to purchase a universal drive adapter that plugs into the HD and then into my macbook pro using the USB ports. The adapter is up and running and I can feel the HD chiming but nothing pops up on my computer telling me that it recognizes a USB device attached. The instructions for the adapter simply state to take apart its components and reconnect until the computer recognizes it. I have done this several times and cannot get a connection to the computer. I am using all the latest software.

Does the drive adapter have its own AC power supply, and are you using it? What you describe sounds like a drive that's getting enough power to spin, but not enough to be fully operative.

  • Startup HD-Universal Drive Adapter

i have an 80 gig startup HD from my very old power mac G4 733. i attached
NewerTech SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Universal Drive Adapter into my
CalDigit 2 Port USB 3.0 Host Adapter using my 2009 mac pro 2.26 quad core.
the drive pops onto the desktop but says that it was not properly ejected.
after i click ok it seems that it is trying to find the drive. but no luck.
how can i get around this. i'm trying to see if i can recover some files that was deleted.

Why not connect it directly to one of your mac pro's own USB ports instead of using that usb3 card and see what happens?
If you get the "drive not properly ejected" message there will be a lag trying to mount it as the system tries to repair the drive (similar to Disk Utilitie's repair).  If that works it should (eventually) mount.  Then if you unmount it properlay (e.g., drag to trash) you shouldn't see that message on future mounts.
    Update:
Oops.  Just looked up that adapter.  I thought it was a pci card for usb3 you were using.  So I don't know what to suggest unless that drive is SATA in which case just mount it in one of your mac pro drive bays.

  • Is there a way to access my iTunes Library, which is stored on a (PC) External Hard Drive, on a MacBook Air (through an Apricorn Universal Hard Drive Adapter), without transferring the music files off of the external hard drive?

Is there a way to access my iTunes Library, which is stored on a (PC) External Hard Drive, on a MacBook Air (through an Apricorn Universal Hard Drive Adapter), without transferring the music files off of the external hard drive?
In other words, because the MacBook Air only has 120 gbs of hard drive space & my old hard drive, from a Lenovo, has 500 gbs of hard drive space (and I have over 120 gbs of music), I’m looking to manage my iTunes music from the external hard drive permanently. Upon attempting to access the iTunes library held on the external hard drive the following message comes up: “The iTunes Library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file”.  Is there a way to get around this?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much!

You will have to engage a split library which means you will have to start answering questions on this forum because you will need to learn a lot about how iTunes works in order not that have a big mess at the end of it all.  It also won't be easy when the time comes to relocate it all to different drives.
You can go to advanced preferences and turn off organize media and copy to items to media folder when adding items to library.  Next read about how to selectively consolidate items to the external drive.

"...selected the new tracks directly in iTunes, Control-clicked on the selection, and saw that now you can consolidate selected items." - http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20090919000326840
Remember that when you start iTunes without the external drive turned on iTunes will present you with a bunch of broken links.  If you have automatic downloads enabled with iCloud you may have to turn that off to prevent iTunes from repopulating your drive trying to deal with those "missing" tracks.
If you add tracks in bunches to iTunes and want them to go to different media folders you will need to either add them by holding down the option key while dragging if the desired media folder is not the one set in preferences, or by changing the media folder in preferences.  Changing media folder preferences only applies to new files added, not old ones.
Okay, I am going to stop typing because you might just reply to me, "Oh, okay, forget it," and I don't need the exercise.

Good luck and you are welcome.
Like I said, I bought one of their inexpensive enclosures and now can use the hard drive just as a source for the files that are on it...my external drives are much larger and faster so I just plug that drive in when I need something from it.

  • IPhone 3G Universal Dock Adapter + dual dock(bt)?????

has anyone tried this? I had iphone and apple bt(which *****),
dualdock was good as it could hold both of them and keep them pair.
Now things got ugly, 3g iphone doesn't come with dock, and they sell 3g dock
but not 3g dual dock, so I have to either use travel cable or put 3g iphone
in 3g dock and bt in dual dock(or travel charger), which is completely
waste of space and usb port.
So how's this combo? iPhone 3G Universal Dock Adapter( http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB546G/A?fnode=home/shopiphone/iphone_accessories/cablesdocks&mco=MTI3Mzc4Mg&p=1&s=topSellers ) + dual dock
does it work? has anyone tried? I'm sure it will look ugly but if there's
no plan for 3g dual dock, then I'd try it...

Thank you for your response -- (its my first ever response) -- Universal Docks that have the large round IR window on the front are OLD Universal Docks and they will not work, they are for the older ipods before the video ipods came out. They also have a SVIDEO port in back. again these are for the old ipods. the newer Universal Docks have a small slot for a IR window and these are the new NON_SVIDEO versions and they my friend do work with the iphone/video ipods and of course the latest Iphone 3g -- if you purhcase the latest AV cables that connect at the bottom of the device...

  • Which universal dock adapter for iPod touch 4th generation?

When you go into the Apple store / cables and docks, you eventually find one labelled 'Universal Dock Adapter 3-Pack for iPod touch'  but when you go into the support article 300277 'Learn about Apple Universal Dock' it says to use adapter number 20 which has serial number MC598ZM/A, but when you click on the link on the serial number you get the information for 'Apple iPhone 4 Universal Dock Adapter 3-Pack'. Neither information page gives an adapter number or a serial number. So which universal dock adapter is the right one for iPod touch 4th generation?

    I would get this one:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC650ZM/A?fnode=MTY1NDA0OQ&mco=MTg5MTgxMjc
The one for the iPhone 4 will not work.  You can always call Apple and ask them.

  • Universal dock adapter for iPod classic

I am having problems obtaining a MA125G/B Universal Dock Adapter for my 160Gm iPod Classic. Now that all my music library is on the iPod, I am changing the "docks" from my car to my SUV to my home stereo system to a chargeable portable SONY docking station. I have only the one dock adapter #9 which came with the iPod. I live in Canada, and have had my Apple store try to locate a few additional adapters for me, but without success. I see that I can order one on line from Amazon.com, but when I go to purchase it, I am told that it can only be shipped within the US. Is there any retailer out there in Canada from whom I could purchase two or three of these universal adapters?

Actually, I'm not really replying to myself. I just want to confirm that the MA125 G/B universal dock adapter which I found on Amazon.com will be compatible with my 160GB iPod Classic? There is no picture shown with the adapter, and it says it is for an iPod Video 30GB. Is this adapter the one which has the number "9" stamped underneath the lip? I think I may be able to have it shipped to a friend in Fla.

  • Universal Dock Adapter No Volume

    Hi
I recently replaced my old ipod touch with a new 4g itouch and after the first week of using it with my universal dock adapter it stopped working. Whenever i plug my ipod in the volume slider disappears and nothing comes out the line out. I have tried resetting my ipod and restoring it but nothing helps.
    Thanks

Same here with iPod 3G, only stopped working close to one year later.
    Here are the symptoms:
    remote no longer works
    volume slider disappears
line out is a periodic "bump"
iPod no longer goes to sleep and keeps making those "bump"s
iPod no longer detects video cables attached to dock
Everything works when ipod not connected to dock
My diagnosis: the dock is screwed up and is no longer recognized as such.

  • T60 - Lenovo 2623 laptop and Aluatek STD-19034 Universal Power Adapter

I have a T60 - Lenovo 2623 laptop with a standard power adapter that I got in an office lottery.  It is a great system. I wanted to get a second power adapter to have in my day bag for the just-in-case situations and found an Aluatek STD-19034 Universal Power Adapter at Fry's Electronics.  The device and their website state that they are compatable with the Lenovo laptops.
    Part Model: STD-19034
Brand: AC Adapter - Original Aluratek Part.
    Description: Aluratek STD-19034 AC Adapter open end :: Input: 100-250V 47-63Hz 1.4A
    Output:19V 3.4A
    http://www.adaptertech.com.tw/JP/16_ac_dc_switching_adapter.html?CID=2
Since this is a 65w adapter, my question is will the device really be compatible with my laptop.  The standard Lenovo adapters for this laptop are either 60w or 90w.  The Amp output on the Aluatek is between the two standards, but the Voltage output is 19 versus the standard 20.  I don't want to damage my laptop.
What do you think ?  safe to use ?

Lenovo uses 20 V adapters, so from that perspective this is already looking bad. Also, there is different plug sizes and polarity, so you have to make sure this matches that with your normal adapters.
I would suggest you stick with the OEM laptop adapters.

  • IBM DB2 JDBC Universal Driver

    Hello,
On page 36 of the DF XI3.0 Installation Guide, there is a link for the IBM DB2 JDBC Universal Driver. When I click on this link I get the following error:

    Hello
Thanks Scott for your reply. We have resolved this issue in house as follows:
    - our Systems Support team installed the DB2 Connect client software on the DF server
    - copied the jar file to the leselect/drivers directory
Also, because we are using the z series we needed an additional driver db2jcc_license_cisuz.jar which was copied into the same drivers dir.
    Thanks!

  • Why no iPod w/Video 60GB Universal Dock Adapter for UK?

I've got a 60GB iPod with Video, which I use in two locations (home & work). As such, I have two universal docks.
While the 60GB iPod with Video came with a single universal dock adapter, I need another adapter for my other universal dock. Unfortunately, only the 30GB adapter is available for purchase on the Apple Store (UK version).
Anyone know why the 60GB adapter has slipped off the map in the UK? It's listed in the US store.
Alternatively, can anyone suggest a place that might sell them?
    Dean

[I hate to do this.. but.. 'Bump..!']
So, has nobody else in the UK needed to buy a 60GB iPod w/Video Universal Dock Adapter?

    Hi,
As mentioned above, some organisations/organizations allow user to fill out the forms very easy but many others do not have this facility. In this case, I believe the form won't let you "edit" it, therefore you need to do it by hand, using a typewriter or using a PDF editor. There is a very expensive one and there are some alternatives. Please check this (ignore the expensive one):
      http://www.labnol.org/software/edit-pdf-files/10870/
My suggestion: just one form, using a pen may be a lot quicker.
